GTPlanet’s Guide to E3 2010 Coverage: It’s Here!

The biggest game show of the year is finally upon us, and there’s a lot to suggest that Gran Turismo 5 is finally set for its big debut! Here’s a quick overview of exactly what’s going to happen over the next few days:

  • On Tuesday, June 15 at 12:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time (convert this to your local time zone here), Sony will begin their major E3 press conference. GT5 is widely expected to be featured here, and this is most likely when the release date will be revealed. The press conference is available via several different live video streams. All major announcements will, of course, be posted here immediately.
  • While Sony’s press conference is under way, GTPlanet’s own long-time contributor Sage will be sprinting across the show floor to the GT5 booth. Armed with an iPhone 3GS and a digital camera, he’s going to gather as much information as he can about the new demo and will upload all of his material here immediately. We’ll let the other guys worry about getting nice HD footage throughout the week – instead, we’re concentrating on speed and aim to get this information out as quickly as possible.
  • Sage will be posting live updates from the show floor throughout the day to @GTPlanetNews on Twitter, so be sure to follow our account!
  • On Wednesday, more will be revealed as Kazunori Yamauchi himself hosts a private informational session to discuss new GT5 game features. However, while no cameras will be allowed at this event, expect quite a few interesting details to be discussed or revealed.

Throughout the week, I will be tuned into all news sources and will be liberally posting updates to the blog (and don’t hesitate to contact me if you find something interesting yourself). Despite my best efforts, though, it’s hard to keep up with our awesome community here in the GTPlanet Forums, and I encourage you to join the fun. Buckle up, and hope for a wild ride!

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised! Though I like most of the Will Ferrell movies, I was a little afraid this movie would be too corny and I would lose interest. NOT SO! I have to say that I laughed during the ENTIRE movie.

  2. JustCause

There might not be a release date but I am waisting my time telling you guys not to get your hopes up.

  3. Drogahnus

Wouldn’t count on a release date, honestly. It doesn’t make sense for Kaz to hold a secret conference the next day revealing some features of GT5 to a select group of people. Why not just talk about it at E3? Bleh…

  4. Thor

GT5, I believe, will be Sony’s main focus during this entire E3 outside of Move. Between the recent demos at Nurburg and La Sarthe, the Modnation Racers commercial, the Peugeot LeMans sponsorship, etc., etc. it stands to reason that it is a focal point for all of Sony. I think they will show the game and announce a date at the press conference and then Kaz will give all the specifics and answer questions at his event. I say all of this and then remember sitting waiting for last years press conference expecting the same thing… Sony knows they should be able to sell 10 mil units of GT5 relatively easily. I don’t think they’re going to mess it up this time. Fingers and toes crossed…

They will probably tell us that release for GT5 has slipped in to Q1 2011 as they need to refine the 3D visuals and also make some tweaks to get the Playstation Move fully compatible witht the title, lol.

Or maybe, KY will tell us he’s porting it over to XBOX360, lol.

Seriously, like most everyone else, I hope there is some concrete info regards a release date and obviously confirmation of what will/will not be making it in to GT5, as the rumours regards day/night, car damage, weather, limited in car views etc. etc. need to be put to bed and some cold hard facts be made available.

    1. danielwhite74

What “rumours?” Either you’re horribly misinformed, or just too lazy to look this stuff up for yourself. It has been confirmed that both night and day racing will be available on all tracks, all vehicles will feature damage while 170 “Premium” cars will feature interior deformation, weather is just a fan-made wish, and all vehicles will feature interior view. We know this stuff already.

Kaz’s breakout session is at noon on Wednesday.. I’ll be there and will blog Wednesday with my notes and post them at Racesimcentral..

I’ll also be attending a special event that Mercedes Benz is hosting tonight with 6 GT5 rigs setup.. Kazanori is supposed to be in attendance.

Have Sage look for us Jordan. We should be near the GT5 booth early today as well.

FYI, they have told me they will not let people square their cameras up to film GT5, but I’m sure it can be done ;-)

Does anyone else feel like theyre about to ‘go over to top’ in the world war one use of the phrase… Good luck guys and dont worry Im sure we’ll come through it ok and be having sausage and beer in Berlin by morning… Gentleman… to your places…

  8. J.B.

If I had to bet I’d say we will have a release date in the next few hours, but more of the details we want won’t come until Kaz is at the mic tomorrow.

  9. tyl0r_r

excellent work guys. as for wednesday’s kaz meeting: it’s 2010, somebody’s gotta be able to sneak a crappy little camera in there. make it happen!!

  10. tvensky

I live in Latvia and it meens time in here will be 22.00 when it starts. Anyone know for how long will it be going?? 2 or 4 hours?

  11. NotaSonyEmployee

This just in: Release date for The Release Date just announced. It was then immediately postponed to an unspecified date in the future.
The reason given: PD has decided to upgrade the release date to support 3D vowels, day/night pronouncable consanants, damagable syntax, has well has periods that leave skids at the end of every scentance.
On the bright side, Sony/PD have announced that the release date is 90% done, and could be released anytime. Still no word on bad japanees to english translation reverse lights though…. ;P

  12. S3 Racer

Yeah watched yesterday also MS conference.
    Nothing really new, all expected.
Natal is lame, only shovelware, despiteful graphics, nothing for hardcore gamers.

will continue after work with Nintendo at 6pm gmt+1
    and Sony after @ 8pm

If Sony does the same with Gt than Ms did with the revamped xbox, it will enter history.
+Sony has probably also a new ps3 console ready (new product numbers registered)
If Nintendo does nothing really groundbreaking, Sony will be the winner of this E3.

can’t wait. Good that @ work time fly’s by

  13. jedaye

Hey, anyone know how punctual E3 & Sony are. I mean will the conference actually start on time at 12:00, or will it be at 12:30 or 1:00.

    Thanx in advance

  14. TokyoDrift

Oh man, I just watched the Microsoft Press Conference…total yawnfest. Nothing really original, slick new box, blah blah… I hope SONY don’t follow suit.

  15. Strikey182

    IGN
Thursday 12:00 pm – Gran Turismo 5 (LA Time, dunno what its called)
    GAHHH, THATS MILES AWAYYY!!

    1. Bernd

C’mon, we have been waiting for more than five years now, what’s another 48hrs (or, in my case, 60+)? ;-)

    1. Bernd

Rattlehead, English, please ! I can read it, but I’m too bad in understanding Russian. Ja tochje, zemljak. Wots dat ?

  16. m0j0

“Awesome!!! Can’t wait to watch it tomorrow live at Gamespot”

I tried to watch the MS and EA presentations on Gamespot but they had serious problems keeping the feed steady.

So i switched to Gametrailers, and it was flawless..

    Just a tip :)

  17. DrTrouserPlank

…also the secret nature of this Yamauchi demo doesn’t exactly sound like they are ready or willing for this game to be out in the public yet. Why be so secretive if you are going to release it in the next 6 months?

  18. DrTrouserPlank

Anything less that a confirmed date and month for GT5’s release in every region and Sony will leave looking like fools.

I don’t care about LBP2, and killzone 3, and “last years big seller X”

Get the date for GT5 sorted out or get off the stage you bunch of jokers.

  19. Scibba

bet you any money gt5 would come out in 2010 i will put $100 on the table right now bagggggggggggggggggggggg :0000000000000. i head ps3 going to be like xbox live soon that means you are going to pay online so.

    1. Mr_Hansen

I don’t think that it will be like Xbox Live. From what I’ve heard, it is a ‘premium’ version of PSN which you will have to pay for, but it gives you certain extras..
The normal – free PSN, will still be here. ;D

  20. DRambo

Private session with KY. This does not look good for an early release. We’ll see, but I would have expected KY to get up on stage and give us a full broadside.

  21. Shokz

I love E3; only gaming event that makes me warm and fuzzy inside :P The Microsoft keynote was pretty poor, but they did tease Forza 4 towards the end…

  22. MSH

I so hope that Kaz and Sony won’t limit their presentation and discussion the the Move and 3D…

Putting pessimism aside, if the game comes this year, we should really be blown out of our socks with new info about the game. At least that’s what I’m hoping for, and I guess everyone here :)

  23. dreadlockdragon

@Ferrari that would be outstanding, omg! but if they don’t
it would be nice if they do a midnight release @ gamestop :D

  24. Mike

After all this time, I simply can’t make myself believe that they’re gonna give us any release date, however I want it bad!

  25. User.#0 f women

Why is the GT official website the worst place to get info from? All that seems to be on there is Gt academy … I was bored of that as soon as I didnt get chosen.

  26. Ferrari

What I wanna hear tomorrow is, just like the new xbox slim
“And you all are wondering when you will have your hands on GT5? Well.. we are pleased to announce that we have shipped Gran Turismo 5”

    1. UCLA'09

Oooooo, you’re right! That was pretty cool, by microsoft. I hope that’s the case with GT5 too.

  27. sidsid118

anything less than a 100% confirmed release date and a good comprehensive run down on features would be a total pr disaster.

we have had enough pretty demos, trailers, videos and pictures of cars disapearing into the background with heat haze being shown to last 3 lifetimes, we have had vids of the r246, we have had this, we have had that.

what we havent had is a release date, hopefully today we will have that as well.

ive got my g25, ive got my wheel stand pro, now all i want is gt5. if a release date isnt confirmed, i dont think we will see it for at least a year.

    1. lawman

have to agree here, enough of these videos and demos, they aren’t showing us anything new. only news that matter right now is the release date. after that sony can wrap up and go home. i’m tired off waiting.

  28. The Nothing

Many thanks goes out the Jordan and Sage for your efforts to keep us GT fans updated with the latest info.

  29. UCLA'09

WHAT?!?! WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL WEDNESDAY FOR A REPORT FROM KAZUNORI YAMAUCHI!?!?

I was really really really hoping we would get all the info on tuesday. Here I was with all my hopes up, and already I’m disappointed…

  30. strop

Five years since the announcement of Vision Gran Turismo (aka Gran Turismo 5) at E3 ***2005***. Five years and they still can’t even come up with a release date. Seriously wondering if I’m going to live long enough to see it …

Sure they’ll announce something tomorrow, maybe a release date, maybe a date when they’ll have a release date? Question is will anyone believe it after so many of the previous ship dates have come and gone with not even a whimper.

Or it could be more of the same, history isn’t such a bad predictor of the future after all, a new improved teaser demo and no word of a release date. I wish it doesn’t happen, I’m dying to play GT5 like everyone else, but if I was a betting man, that’s where my money would be.

    1. danielwhite74

You’re wondering if you’re “going to live long enough to see it?” Why, do you have a chronic illness or something?

    2. Strop

I do actually, I have HAS, human aging syndrome … the doctors tell me I probably have less than 40 years to live :-)

  31. zevehcj

I really appreciate everything you guys do for the gt community. You guys are the best!!!!!!!! I’ll be waiting patiently for the news.

  32. Peter

I’ve got five bucks on the GT5 release date being a major disappointment, if it’s mentioned at all… Sorry to be a downer, but it’s what I’ve come to expect.

  33. RE515TANT

I can’t wait. My prediction is that there will be some big, unexpected details shown that will blow us away. (release date doesn’t count) I wonder what they might be…

  34. Joshua

This is what we have been waiting for. Let’s all be civil and respectful towards one another. Oh, and let the good times roll! Thank you GTPlanet for creating a mecca for our insatiable GT appetite.

  35. aws1423

I think twitter is down temporarily. Every time i try to veiw the site it says “The page you’re looking for wasn’t found”.

  36. Ner0_sol03

Jordon u r the man good job.. Let’s hope we all hear what we want after Wednesday so u can take a break

    1. NotaSonyEmployee

lol, I know it was ment figuratively, but in comparrison, here are the top five days of my life:

      1. The day the mortar missed me just enough not to kill me, and got me just enough to get me sent home.

      2. The day the drunk driver didn’t manage to kill me though he totaled my car.

      3. The day I married my first wife.

      4. The day I divorced my first wife.

      5. Any day I spend with my current wife.

      Puts things into perspective don’t it…. ;)
