Polyphony Releases Direct-Capture GT Sport Footage, Gallery of Images

Polyphony may not have brought much to 2016’s Electronic Entertainment Expo that you could classify as ‘new’, but it seems like they’ve listened to fans requests for more content to consume. The official GT.com website has just been updated, and brought with yet more direct-capture video (we saw some earlier today), as well as the huge collection of high-res images we recently shared.

Up top, you’ll find the first video listed, with a variety of B-Roll footage covering the tracks we’ve become familiar with over the past month, from both the driver’s perspective and Replay Mode. These short collections are punctuated by clips of menu exploration, as well as beauty shots from the game’s attract mode.

One unexpected addition is a set of PDF files explaining the contents of the image collection. The Tracks category functions as a visual tour of circuits, while the Scapes are expanded upon with a description of each location. Unfortunately, PD has rather craftily avoided adding descriptions to the User Interface images, so those looking for explanations of some of the unknown aspects will have to keep waiting!

As an example, here’s this article’s featured image, with the description PD has provided:

Tokyo_Express_Way_Gr3_04_1465878853
A section modelled on the Kitanomaru Tunnel near Daikanmachi.

For those that aren’t able to witness the game first-hand, getting this content directly from the source is the next best thing. Stay tuned for more GT Sport news as E3 continues.

Just watched the videos of GT Sport at gran-turismo.com

Graphically this looks absolutely superb. Gave me the goosebumps I used to get from the perceived realism of the early GTs of their time. GT5/6 had it in moments but never the jaw drop we used to get on say PS2 era GTs.

So GT Sport warming up very nicely. But please pretty please up the tyre squeal realism!

  2. Johnnypenso

Been out of town but reading a lot about improved sounds. Can’t tell anything watching on my phone so I thought I’d reserve judgement until I could download and watch the videos directly, without compression. Still not impressed. Engine/car sounds are weirdly disconnected from the action because they are so far from sounding realistic. Long way to go IMO. Game looks good though, have to say that.

  3. Tenacious D

No doubt about it, everything is improving nicely over GT6 – yes, sounds too. And it was good enough to have me coming back even from RaceRoom to enjoy all those cars and tracks. Standards and all.

I’ve been asking for a GT sim mode since GT4. Kaz mentioned the desire to make a GT Pro mode back in GT5 days, and I’ve been lobbying for it for years. Well, here you go, a whole game dedicated to it. Do I want it to sound as mean as RaceRoom? Of course I do. Will I buy it if it doesn’t?

    Take a wild guess. ;D

    Kaz, BRING IT!!

When they went inside the tunnels at the Tokyo Expressway, I nearly climaxed. They game is looking better and better though in terms of fluidity and detail.

Glad to see the game Improved in this latest build, far better, smoother and more stable than what was shown to us back in April.

The reflections on the car and environment are spot on, making these the most realistic replays I’ve seen in the genre. Camera view positions also help.
It’s worth mentioning too how the high LOD (level of detail) is in the environment; 3D trees with leafs reflecting off light, Greater quality on road textures, volumetric chunks of grass on the side tracks.

The sounds while a definite step forward from previous GTs sill lack grittiness, crackling, growl specially when changing gears, the transition is dull.

Horrible tearing — not again sony! Look at video second time and you will see.
There is 8 cores, 8 GB RAB, new video card and still we have tearing on PS4.
We need not only 60fps, but tear-free experience.
Maybe it’s recording issue, but I think it will be in the game too.

    1. gtpdz

Did you try download and look at the original 3.6 GB captured video? Tearing is a lot less noticeable.

  7. ALB123

    Wow!

This game is really looking pretty sweet, in my opinion. From the in-game footage videos we’ve been seeing, even the sounds are improved. If they’ve improved the physics and implemented a good tire model Gran Turismo Sport is going to be a big seller! The only thing that might limit sales is the complete focus on “serious” racing. There are a lot of GT6 players who prefer tuning and cruising – collecting cars and goofing around with friends online. Maybe you can still do that stuff, but we know the car count has been reduced substantially. Quantity has been replaced with quality. And now people can create custom liveries? Wow…

I’ve packed my PS3 away and will not be buying a PS4. I’ve moved over to Assetto Corsa on the PC and couldn’t be happier. However, if Gran Turismo Sport has improved tires and physics, it is going to be one impressive game! I’m almost jealous that I won’t be able to play it! :-(

  8. Fredzy

It’s hard to comment on all of the good we’re seeing (everything except sound!!!) because of the sound. As the visuals and dynamics become more and more polished and photo-real, the failure to bring the sound to that level becomes more of a glaring issue.

I think I understand why PD does the sound the way they do it, and I appreciate what they’re shooting for. If they generated/synced sound like Forza or Pcars, I believe the game wouldn’t feel right. But they need to get creative here…

  9. 440 CHARGER

The graphics look really good and the way everything moves looks really nice and smooth. The game’s visual appearance looks fantastic, no doubt. However, the engine and exhaust sounds and notes still sound pathetic. You can say the game is still in development, but lets face it, this is what the game is going to sound like when it’s finished. Why would they not have the sounds updated in this demo feed if they were actually planning to update the sounds? They aren’t updating the sounds and I just don’t understand why not. And unfortunately it sounds like they have just piped everything in from GT6 if you ask me. That yellow racing Corvette has the same exact, boring 4-cylinder sound that it has in GT6. Some cars sound a little more legit, but I think the majority of what I just heard are completely pathetic. Pretty disappointing. :(

We should all just shut up. Whos kidding who …you know your buying it if you already have a PS4..

    1. Oyashiro-sama

The truth has been spoken. However, I don’t have a PS4, so I think I might have to skip this game…

    2. ynot

Agree, your going to have to get a PS4 if you want to continue to play games. PS3 is already left behind. Only a matter of time before the servers start going offline. I bet PD shuts the GT6 servers down just like they did the GT5 servers. After playing on PS4 for a while going back to GT6 is a big step backwards in graphics. I can’t wait for Gran Turismo Sport to come out. Getting a new racing seat and wheel just for it. Time to get on board the Sport Train.

    1. ALB123

The videos I’ve seen…I think the sounds are better than GT6. Are they perfect? No. Even most PC “sims” don’t have incredible sound. A few do, but if GTS improved the sounds for all the cars, and they better not all sound the same, I think it will be totally fine.

  11. greenlightning

Sex sells and I am buying.

GT series over the last ten years or so has allways had the allure of a beatuifull women that walks by.

I think that GT2 and GT4 for the most part had it all compared to anyone else around.

Yes sound is important however is it the most important?

If you got it than might as well flaunt the hell out of it. GT series does a great job on the visuals but could still up there game big time on camera views, driving views, replays etc to really show case the visuals.

Really though it is the implementation of the game that makes the difference for me. GT6 easially has enough material that it should of been and amazing game. What a difference it would of been if most of the add ons were there from day one.
If done even partially right. I would be happy just running laps by myself and not doing anything else, except races to get credits. Rreally over a thousands cars and you are going to limit me to 10 record times per track regardless of category. You expect me to play the game 24/7 to buy the cars. I want to enjoy the game, get to know the cars and tracks. Even with the credit multiplier the online events are not ennough for me (which by the way they suck) Who wants to chace the rabit all the time and be forced to use compacrt or sports tires.

With that said I have baught a PS4 to play project cars, but without a wheel even with adjusting the controller settings. I do not have enough time to get used to it come anywhere close to enjoying. So both may be on the shelf until July 4th week.
Still looking forward to August hopefully that game is more user friemdly. In the meantime GT6 and G27 for a little while.

Anyways regarding the latest information there goes the jaw dropping beautiful women that we love and it does not matter what comes out of her mouth lol

    1. Wiki

I get it. Gran Turismo is such a pleasant game to be at.

Nice music and menus, always good visuals, attention to detail. It’s all about appreciating the car at the end, to stare at it and take it for a drive at your favorite track or take some pictures.

  12. Magic Ayrton

    Graphics 10/10.
Sound.. 5/10. At least from what I can hear – Flat, boring and uninspiring.

  13. mokalovesoulmat

What kind of audio we think its good? For now what I understand, if it is not artificial/VRRRROOOOOOMMMM like FM/pcars then it is not good.

So Driveclub audio and GT is wrong all the time?

  14. SZRT Ice

“Rough”, “Raw”, “Ferocious”, “Menacing”, “Powerful”, “Heart Pounding”, “Adrenaline Pumping”.

There’s are the words I think of and feel when I HEAR a sports car starting, idling, reving, launching, and roaring by.

Can we please end the dainty formalities? I want a symphony of engine sounds that both scare and excite me… Enough with these subtle hums.

    1. SavageEvil

I think you mean race car, most sports cars have fake amplifiers in them to give them that manly sound. I died when I first heard of that, Ford Mustang had it tucked away in there too in the cabin. Sports cars made for city streets rarely if ever sound anything like you describe on start up and most have an audible sound but it’s usually contained by bafflers in the muffler, noise pollution. No one wants to hear your car farting before it comes into view in a quiet neighborhood.

Race car on the other hand, should sound like animals due to not having all the numbing plumbing street cars have, they are free breathing, loud belching, wild frat party boys, that will make your belly vibrate upon firing up the starter.

Hey anyone notice the audio normalization during the replay, just like TV presentation. I hope that there is at least audio control setting that have a choice for driver choice audio. Meaning what it sounds like to the driver from the cockpit, no cloaking audio or turning it down, I should not hear my tires over my engine unless my engine cuts off, in any ICE race car.

    2. SZRT Ice

Kazunori-san. I know you race in real life… Maybe the helmet you wear prevents you from hearing the different vehicles properly? No? J/k.

      : )

  15. GranTurismoFive

Still sounds poor imo. I don’t get why they never seem to be able to get it right, for all/most cars.

  16. Matvex

I was off board for a bit when I saw new FH3 in straya but I can’t file for divorce from the GT series. its almost been 20 years and it looks the goods. Just looking for the best method of getting my DFGT Wheel to fly on the Ps4 and then im ready.

  17. CitroenCX

The game now looks stunning man,the PS4’s easy development is now in full effect!
Can’t wait for more improvements as this game development continues!
