Special PlayStation VR2 Event Will Let You Try Gran Turismo 7 (But Only in Japan)

An announcement on the PlayStation Blog Japan has revealed that Gran Turismo 7 will be one of the games available in a special PlayStation VR2 event in Tokyo next month.

The application-only event, called “TRY! PS VR2”, will be held at a mystery location in Tokyo on the weekend of February 18-19 — shortly before the PSVR2 launch date of February 22. In total there’ll be three different titles for the successful applicants to try: Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Resident Evil Village.

Each of the two days has six session available, each lasting for around 90 minutes. During this time, the attendees will be able to play all three titles — and we hope they’ve got their VR sea-legs, as that’s quite a lot of “screen” time…

You’ll need to apply for a place on the event directly, with applications open from today through February 5 on a portal on the PS Blog Japan. Prospective players will be able to select their preferred slots — 0930, 1115, 1300, 1445, or 1630 — on either day, although it’s not clear if that will secure the slot if the application is successful.

Everyone who takes part in the event will receive a PlayStation-branded pouch bag, while those who post on social media, or take part in a special video on-site, about their experience will also receive a PlayStation-branded T-shirt.

As far as we’re aware, this will be the first chance for members of the public to play any of the games listed with the PSVR2 hardware, with no similar events revealed for other core markets in North America or Europe.

Gran Turismo 7 will be a PSVR2 launch title, with the full game (except two-player split-screen) supported, once a free game update has added the functionality. That makes it likely that the update will arrive on or before Thursday, February 16, in order to support this event.
