Each year at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Kazunori Yamauchi personally selects a car at the show to be awarded the “Gran Turismo Trophy” and included in a future Gran Turismo title.
The Trophy is responsible for introducing several of GT5‘s most interesting cars, including the Lamborghini Miura P400 Bertone Prototype and Alfa Romeo TZ2.
This year’s winner is a 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Pinin Farina Coupe, owned by Jon & Mary Shirley of Medina, Washington. According to UltimateCarPage, it’s one of only two four-cylinder Mondial Coupes which were built to compete in the 1954 Tour de France automobile race, where the unusual blue color was popular for French cars at the time.
The 500 now joins the 2010 winner, a 1952 Abarth 1500 Biposto Coupe, and the 2011 winner, an asymmetric 1960 Plymouth XNR Ghia Roadster, as they await to be immortalized in upcoming Gran Turismo titles.

I would love to see this car in a DLC! The 4-cylinder Ferraris were some of the most beautiful cars of the 50s and those big inline-4s sound absolutely brilliant. I would much rather drive this in a video game than the Enzo.
A mondial???? Why would you spend any money for a mondial? They’re peices of crap
Seeing a lot of people begging for Big fast super cars and not the great classic cars which made history and inspired designers of today to design the cars you call amazing or nice today, what a horrible world we live in. I would drive this Ferrari any day, Koenigsegg? Not interested in the slightest, classic cars are more fun to drive and enjoyable.
In real life yes. To drive a classic is not so much about performance. It’s the feel. And that can not be translated in the slightest in a video game. I used to valet for about 6 years off & on, & when u got in a classic, u felt “GQ”. U drove it slow, admired it’s interior, it’s supersoft suspension, it’s comfortable drive, it’s class, & it’s rarity. I won’t front, it’s cool to look at them in GT5, photomode all that, yeah, but we should have the best of it all, & GT is holding back on the hypercar realm.
These cars are good to marvel @, but it doesn’t translate over in gaming the way that speed does. & in video games/simulators, I’d rather drive fast. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have classics, but we should have super/hyper class exotics too. Even TDU2 has 5 Zonda models, 2 Ascari’s, A Koenigsegg, A Gumpert Apollo, better/more Ruf’s, better/more Aston Martins, the SL 65 AMG Black series & Sterling moss, ONE Nissan GTR (Lol, J/k), & a whole list of desirable cars.
“Well, if u want thes cars so bad, why don’t u go play TDU2?”
I am & I do. But I’d still prefer them in GT5 with PD’s physic model & attention to detail (modelling). I’m a GT fan that’s tired of all the same & want PD to do something fresh, new, & radical. You guys are selfish. Only thinking ur opinion matters & quickly shutting down those of others when it contests ur own. I’m not the only person who wants these things in GT, but most don’t speak about it because the “GT Patrol Squad” quickly comes & playing crowd control, discouraging people & shutting their viws down every time.
::End Rant::
P.S. The Koenigsegg is an sexy attractive young woman that #$%@’s all over this old b&%$#. Sorry, but this car is ugly imo, & there are some “cougar” classics out there, but this is not one of them. It looks like something out of a cartoon.
Aww! Look at you with your happy little ghost face! You’s a cute car ain’t you! Look at those cute wittle cheeks of yours!!! You wittle cutie pie you! You’re jus’ a smooshy-wooshy, cutie-wooty, ittle bittle, sweety-weeshy… ::boom:: [car explodes] ::Hops in a Koenigsegg and drives away smirking::
Meh, the vehicles from Koenigsegg are ugly and always seem to look the same. The classics will always beat the modern cars. Maybe not in speed, and maybe not in handling. But their history, on and off the track, are much more valuable.
Then get a book & research them. This is a game. & I won’t even comment on ur taste in what’s ugly, everyone is beautiful to somebody. We’re just on opposite sides of the fence.
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait??????????? A Koeniggsegg is ugly? So if somebody handed you a Koeniggsegg you would hate it? Ok then… Good luck lookin sexier in anything else dude no homo… A Lambo vs Koeniggsegg, more girls, Ferrari vs Koeniggsegg, Koeniggsegg wins again
@SZRT Ice
That’s fine, you’ve got your side of the fence, and I’ve got mine. :p
I can respect that.
And, whilst my rant mode is activated, get the feckin sounds right. Ive owned both a Lancia Delta integrale Evo and a 147 Gta and both sounded like true racing machines. In-game both sound like a vacuum cleaner. Hate to say it, but Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed wanks all over GT5 for sounds and exciting single player racing. And yes, I am a GT fanboy. Get it right Polyphony Digital, or risk losing long time lovers for ever!
Tasteful!
This will probably get ditched for 5 more Skylines.
You mean 5 more GT-R’s. ;p
Lol kinda cute :) I would like it in GT5… but PD only thinks about the godamn GT6 :( In Brazil,PS3 games are expensive, and when is a new game?Almost 200 reais ( around 100 dollars) That’s boring :(
So this will be in a future Gran Turismo….. I bet it will worth arround 20,000,000 cr.
Probably. I often wonder why most of the cars over priced. I mean, a 1969 Camaro doesn’t cost 70,000. Nor does a 1966 Volkswagen 1200 cost 60,000.
Please edit the title. Pininfarina is 1 word.
Pinin Farina is correct for this car. Do your research.
Very well deserved. RIP Sergio Pininfarina.
Yep may the design house honor you name and keep up the beautiful work!!!!
try putting in ken blocks gymkhana ford fiesta in the game coz its fun!!!!! yeh the ferraris great but tbh who cares. about that whos gona use that unless they r 60 years old playin this game?
People with class.
Ford Fiesta…Ferrari…Putt Putt…VroomVroom…Grocery Getter…Race Bred winner… The Choice is Clear
People who a nice car when they see it. The Fiesta isn’t a nice car.
Dude, if you want Ken Blocks Fiesta, just get Dirt 3.
I’m with the fiesta. Watch Gymkhana 5 on youtube.
I think Kaz needs an advisor to pick out classic cars. The two in GT5 are great but he Finally chooses a Ferrari and he even screwed that up by picking one of the least attractive ones made. I definitely like it better than the other two from the last two years but I agree, he could have picked a better Ferrrari. At least its a classic Ferrari. He should have picked a 250 GTO and Shelby Daytona Coupe in honor of Carroll Shelby and Pinin Farina! That is a no brainer. The man knows how to make a video game, he just doesn’t know how to choose a car to put in it.
Can’t wait to paint it matte black :)
I am in love!
Sweet!
lol wait so this car won, but they haven’t even got the 2010 or 2011 winners done yet? At this rate hopefully this one makes it to GT48
Spectacular looking car.
A worthy winner of the award. : )
I look forward to driving this in-game. I only hope they keep the Alfa TZ2 In GT6 as-well.
The cars that win these awards will always be included.
This will be ready in time for gt8..
Still waiting for the last 2 years winners..and SEMA winners..
This is a great Ferrari. But there are still 2 classic Ferraris that I still would like to see. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, and the 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa.
