Audi R8 LMS GT5 Simulator Debuts at Gamescom 2011

Gran Turismo 5 Videos August 19th, 2011 by Jordan

Though Gamescom 2011 wasn’t nearly as exciting for GT fans as it was last year, Sony and Audi did use the event to launch an impressive new GT5 simulator built around an R8 LMS race car, similar to the one found in the game.

As you can see in the videos below, the R8 sits upon a pneumatic suspension that moves the chassis in response to what’s occurring on-screen. With the exception of a slightly modified roll-cage, the authentic interior features functional gauges, a real R8 LMS steering wheel, bucket racing seats, and a Dolby Digital sound system.

The R8 replaces the GT5 Prologue-based Audi TT-R simulator (where’s it going now?) which, according to Audi, has been driven by over 15,000 people at 240 events since 2005. Thanks to all of you who sent this in!

Wow it’s cool! I’d like have that car to play Gran Turismo 5! but they need to upload more premium car like that Audi race car in the next patch, please Polyphony.

Awesome body roll… need to firm up the suspension a bit… maybe head over to gt5-tuning.com for some tips. :)

I think the driver is trying to find another hole in the wall loop to get a best lap time?! :p

The suspension is fine. (I know your joking) But you have to remember that the road tilts and elevates and such.

Forza 4 only have more cars and tracks. Gran Turismo 5 improved a lot of things of Gran Turismo 4, and for me, in a lot aspects, GT5 is better than Forza 4.

Is it just me or is the motion simulation only there in the left/right axis. I didnt see the nose lift or drop during accel and braking at all

I wanted to rip my hair out when I watched who ever was driving in that second video. I can’t believe that someone who actually got to try that, was driving into walls! Ahhh…

I’m wondering if they incorporated T500RS steering assembly and their new shifter that will be showcased at the show. I don’t see any Thrustmaster logos on the car, but what else would they be using? Maybe Audi did their own FFB?

Fock the “realism”,fock the “simulation”. The gameplay must be interesting & fun,and nothing more. there is no one simulator in this world, that can compare to a real life driving. And I think, playing forza 4 will deliver more fun (like forza 3 does for me) than gt5,despite that I’m a big gt series fan

Go play Race 07 but not Forza if you want to have some good times against IA and online too. You have average but not bad looking cars and one of the best in car sound and engine sound in the entire market.
Still i love and play GT5 but many more in PC. (simulators)

Forza is a Cartoon.. but at least it has proper customisation, 4 will be a better visual treat though.. as for GT5 it needs to be sorted asap.

Whoever was driving in that second video…I’d be so embarrassed to get out of the car after that downright horrible driving.

Yeah, this car should be premium, GT5 has had some fails,
what about the top gear thing? we have Forza 4 maxing out the top gear deal with clarksons voice and the actual top gear replay, i can’t believe GT5 did’nt have the top gear replay thats just crazy. I’m a huge GT fan, have been since the first instalment but i have to say, Forza 4 is looking pretty damn awesome. It will be a sad day if GT loses that crown but i can see it coming.

I wouldn’t get too hyped about Top Gear in Forza. Sure, it’s nice to try out the supercars at the test track, in the same way as it is nice to do so in GT5. Clarkson might add an extra bit of nicelyness to it, but I suspect that Tope Gear is, and will always be, best on BBC. Maybe Forza’s Top Gear will be better than GT’s, but I have a feeling that it will be a disappointment anyway, because it will not be like the Top Gear we watch on TV. But you are certainly right, they are maxing it out. 10 variations on the Top Gear test track layout… the geek factor is getting close to Yamauchi’s Skyline obsession.

Nothing can beat Kaz’s Skyline obsession, unless I change the color of a Midnight Purple edition R34 to white. MUAHAHAHA!

Forza4 is maxing out their top gear deal because keep in mind that Forza is Microsoft and Microsoft are the top leaders in marketing software… whereas Sony is the top leader in marketing televisions… there is a big difference…. just marketing!

What would it take to get the kinetic feedback out of GT5 to make a motion simulator feasible? I swear more than 3D or better graphics or super steeringwheels I want motion simulation… that would make it SO much better…

That sir, would re-invent racing games. Probably would cost a couple grand to buy one.

Well technically it would be possible for PD to develop a external device that is connected to the PS3 expansion port, and then the user can incorporate motion shocks on their rigs, calibrate them with the device and voila.. but that’s just not going to happen.

So they think a standard ugly car is good enough to host this. What a joke!

      Retarded

to add to that i mean they spend a lot of time for the premiums. Just thought the effort would go there!

      Erik

So tell me, what would the difference be if they used a premium car? Would the grass be greener? Would the sky be more blue? Would the car go faster?

      FlareKR

Well of course, only the premium grass is greener and sways in the wind!

they should have the actual rear view mirrors have screens so that you could actually look behind through them in the game

    • August 19th, 2011 at 10:11 pm - #

Why not just use the real mirrors to look at the rear view screen behind the car?

Along with maybe catching a glimpse of a photographer somehow “moving” 200 mph and following your car up Mulsanne – oh now, he’s getting closer!

    Cruden anyone?

Ever heard about Cruden Simulators? GT today is everything AROUND a second class videogame or “simulator” if you dare…

    • August 20th, 2011 at 7:34 am - #
      Erik

OMG lol ure so rite and the dvd player of the ps3 is so second class compared to the IMAX movie theatre in Sydney, Australia.

On a serious note, Cruden Simulators is not a video game company, they are building simulators. I am pretty sure that a PS3 and GT5 is a bit cheaper than buying a simulator from Cruden.

      Cruden anyone?

You forgot to add an R8 to the mix… LOL, you are so right…

      Really?

Cruden? That’s the 120.000 bucks simulator for real life teams. It’s not a videogame

      Cruden anyone?

And an R8 race car is video game hardware?

My point is, for the price of this “simulator” I’d rather get the “cheapest” Cruden, by far…
