Gameplay Video: Chaparral 2X in Gran Turismo 6

2012 GT Academy finalist and GTPlanet member Darwin Albano had a chance to sit down and virtually drive the radical new Chaparral 2X Vision GT concept car, unveiled by GM during last week’s Los Angeles Auto Show:

I’ve had a couple runs in the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo at the LA Auto Show. After its unveiling, I was able to test it out on Circuit de la Sarthe 2009. It’s a really twitchy car under braking and cornering. It was also able to hit about 245mph before braking for the 1st chicane. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any footage from Le Mans.

However, I had someone record my run the very next day. It was at Special Stage Route X since they began to restrict tests only on that track. I believe I topped out about 290+mph.

His friend captured the drive on video, offering our first peek at what the car’s performance will look like in the game. The video also reveals the 2X will provide a fully modeled interior view – an extra perk not offered by most Vision GT cars.

The Chaparral 2X is set to arrive in a free update for Gran Turismo 6 within the next few weeks; check out the full announcement for more details.

I am excited to get a new car to drive.

I am sure with tuning the twitchyness under braking and cornering can be adjusted out.

What got my attention was the constant steering input at high speed! To me this points out an aerodynamic instability. I’ve driven in cars that have been stable and unstable at high speed. Steering input on a car with “float” tendencies seems constant.

The fact that this is present in a concept car is a bit disturbing. I would think that a digital concept car would be serene and insanely stable- almost surreal.

He said the force feedback sensitivity was too high, so that’s probably the reason it was twitching like that.

This car is definitely a rival for the Red Bull cars. I mean, 245 before the first chicane at Le Mans? That’s serious speed.

The “Next few weeks” bit is all that interests me. Why that and not something vague as usual like “Holiday Season” ? That’s more-or-less a deadline imo, I’d be careful saying that if I were Jordan, haha.

What does he know ? o.O *insert dramatic music*

How wonderful this video shows how god aweful the FFB causes the car to oscillate because of some stupid fake weight transfer effect.

The force feedback was quite high. The steering wheel was moving left-right on it’s own. I just tried to manage that movement.

I would like to see what Nike and Jordan come up with to compete with this because this is by far the fastest and most extreme looking VGT!

What a whimsical machine, I bet that stalled but planned Route X layout would have been perfect for this type of car.
