The new GT5 downloadable content that leaked a few days ago was confirmed earlier today by the North American and European PlayStation Blogs, who provided a few more details and pricing information.
As expected, “Car Pack 3″ will include the following vehicles and will be available in the PlayStation Store for $5.99 (USD) / €5.99 / £4.79.
The “Speed Test Course Pack” will also become available at that time for $3.99 (USD) / €3.99 / £3.19, which includes the Route X test course and an apparent new “Speed Test” mode that allows you to exactly measure “things like your mile, quarter-mile, acceleration, and g-force”.
The blogs also confirm you’ll be able to use Route X online, though it’s still not clear if this will enable formal online drag races as desired by many fans.
Polyphony Digital has also posted an online maintenance notice for 03:00 GMT on January 17th, so expect the 2.03 update to go live shortly thereafter.
As for the DLC’s availability, the North American PlayStation Blog confirms it will be available next Tuesday, January 17. However, the European blog re-iterates the original release date of Wednesday, January 18. As always, stay tuned to GTPlanet and our forums for specific, local availability information.

Agreed, they also claimed before release that there wouldn’t be paid DLC. Oh well…
As i stated in a previous comment, if it was about Kaz alone we might’ve never payed for any content put in the game. But Sony’s in charge!
If Gran Turismo was a PC based game PD would do the same Simbin does with their Racing Sim, adding cars and tracks without owners of the basic game having 2 pay 4 it.
I feel like I contributed the most, I bought 2 car pack 1, 3 paint packs, 1 course pack 1, and a suit pack, and I bought the car pack 2 also, and I’m buying the new track pack and the car pack 3.
Lamborghini Diablo
McLaren F1 GTR Road Car
I’d pay an arm and a leg for road-legal versions of these cars in GT5. The Cizetta V16T is garbage.
But I’m loving the updates
I think Sony needs to get its marketing staff around the world, and have a general get-together about things. I seem to remember reading that Kaz hoped DLC would be free, but I understand how a business works. But, trying to make up the money from the lesser supported areas of the world is a tad unfair. We know the USA probably has slightly less buyers than European countries combined, and not so many in Australia and New Zealand on that scale, yet they get the worst deal because of the low numbers. It is about value for money in my opinion, and the first DLC was, I bought the whole pack (cars, tracks, paint and race gear.) £11.49 seems good for what I got, but I feel the more recent car packs haven’t been, regardless of the cars.
The key to keeping this game fresh is new content. Different cars and new tracks would be great, maybe new features too. Whatever happened to that idea of the on-line auction? Sadly it’s probably too late for that, as most people have probably got most of the game by now…
So, all I’m asking for is value for money. If the price seems expensive, people won’t pay. If people think it’s a good price, people will. Sony should think about maximizing the long term potential of any game that has DLC available. PD certainly seem to offer nice things for those who want to pay.
Until now it seems that the majority of players are contend with the prizes. Should it really be getting much 2 much one day I’m sure we will all be protesting and less and less players buy dlc, Sony, in that case would’ve have to react while seeing sales braking down. The people of Sony ain’t stupid, as long as they are runned by a good management. Plus i do believe that Yamauchi san does have a lil bit to say too, why would PD be able to give us dlc to an acceptable price compared to other Sony based developers? i really think things are quite right the way they are at the moment.
here are what i would like to see as DLC in the near future…
1) 2011 JRM Racing Nissan GT-R
2) 2011 HSV GTS E3 (with the optional yellow brake calipers)
3) 2011 FPV GT
4) 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera
5) 2011 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
6) 2011 BMW M3 GTS
7) 2011 Audi RS5
8) 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo S
9) 2011 Ferrari 458 Spider
10) 2011 Pagani Huayra
plus Bathurst for a track DLC?
1) 2011 JRM Racing Nissan GT-R – Another GT-R??? is what others would say, i say go 4 it PD
2) 2011 HSV GTS E3 (with the optional yellow brake calipers) mentioned HSV b4, i’d prefer street vers. tho
3) 2011 FPV GT – sure if holdens in the ford equivalent should be in 2… more aussies never wrong, Bring Bathurst pls pd
4) 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera – meh not 4 me
5) 2011 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 – most def
6) 2011 BMW M3 GTS – very next Beamer should be E30 M3 but any Bavarian always welcome
7) 2011 Audi RS5 – speakin of Bavarian i ment BMW’s only not this junk. my opinion.
8) 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo S- get rid of that contract Porsche! Wouldn’t make me fan but it would be a punsh n the face 4 EA.
9) 2011 Ferrari 458 Spider- that Horse i’d like 2 see
10) 2011 Pagani Huayra- not 4 me but its makin the supercar freaks happy so… bring it!
2012 Camaro zl1! agreed, must get this in the game PD. Also would love to see an update with the replay angles. Other than that this game is looking pretty perfect, keep it up the good work PD!
I’d want the RS5, and as far as the replay thing, I like how you could set the camera to automatically remain on whoever was in 1st place in GT1, GT2, and GT3. GT1 & GT2, the camera change was instant, in GT3 there was a slight delay. GT3 also had a random effect camera wich was either hit or miss at cool camera angles as the angles were all completely random and you never viewed the same thing twice. It would be cool if GT had a “Videographer Mode” that let you set up your own camera angles after a replay, and save it to your liking. Ehh GT6/GT7 maybe…
Bathurst for DLC definitely… Plus the obvious edition of later versions of the V8 Supercars…
I would like to see more F1 cars as well…. Just the Ferrari is a bit lame…
Keep the Freshness coming PD!! thnx
4 bills no sweat….would’ve tricked it off on rented beer anyway.
We might get the Pagani Huayra soon. The license EA had for it expired 12.31.11.
well hopefully we get a Zonda Cinque that handles so superbly in Forza 4 it made me drool, and some other great cars like Idk a Commedore (V8 supercar a Holden) and some other great great vehicles, be nice to see the 2012 Dodge Charger RT and the 2011 Nascar Dodge Charger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Test Course as an payable DLC ? what ?!
What’s so special about it?
@karelpipa Its a upgraded form and it would of taken them longer to put it in the game all the digitalization it takes and the extra cars we’d would of had to wait till December (2010) before we would of gotten the game, and whatever is next for PD i’ll try n get it. But I hope that PD would see Iracing and be like hmm SUMMIT POINT!!! WELL SUMMIT POINT IS WHERE I LIVE (well near by) and that is we West Virginia’s call it the Hillbilly Green Hell, FUN TRACK BE AWSOME IN GT5!!!!
Great news with the new DLC. The new track looks stunning. Will Dubai be next? I’m not a drag racer but I hope they’ve included those functions as many have been asking for it. Would have liked to have seen a few of the classic tracks we’ve been asking for this time round, but I get a feeling there not going to be far away…
Find it hard to sympathise with the complainers. The future of the video games IS ongoing DLC. Sure there are relevant questions about the level of completion when GT5 came out and many a valid points have been made. But seriously how do you keep a game that may well have a life of 36 months or more, relevant and up-to-date in an era when the world’s in constantly state of fast forward change.
PD has to keep its business profitable and ultimately viable for the long haul. Part of doing that means they have to keep generating new streams of revenue. Yet people whinge about spending a few bucks on a favourite past time when at the same time we get to use those massive servers to get our daily / weekly fix for free. Not to mention that the PD team are probably working round the clock for our entertainment on the next exciting instalment. How much money have you spent with far more deserving corporates like British Petroleum, Enron, Phillip Morris, Dow Chemicals, Monsanto, Citibank, Walmart and others who have a long and distinguished history of doing the right thing by us all? Goodness me.
Keep up the good work your doing Kaz and the PD team.
I want to pay as much as anyone else here. 3,99€ > $3,99 :)
Why the Nissan Leaf? Because you need it to practice for GT Academy. ;-)
A Nissan Leaf in GT5=saving Gran Turismo world Environment lol, but still I do say its awful idea but we could use some good cars but happy to see some new cars in the game, but i’ve read about this car in Car&Driver and it said even though its quite its still a quick car.
So again over 20% more to buy in the UK than the States thanks PD!
Or Sony or whoever you cannot blame this on higher transport it’s a download!
USA got so much free content like pre-order cars from gamestop like Joey Logano’s Gamestop he ran at Texas, the stealth F1 McLaren, the Stealth NSX, and the Stealth GT-R, then u got your Collector edition dlc, US’s Edge Camaro from the shaving (which u can’t get anymore), and now Car Pack 1, car Pack 2, and Track 1. that all combined if it wasn’t free and paid for it be alot of psn cash, because the way u could get the Edge Camaro is to buy Shaving Creme can for like $6.00 just for the free car. but its not much like CoD maps and some other dlc, its pretty cheap in my opinion for some great cars and a NEW OVAL I can test with Nascar with!
Jah’ I am not saying it is not a fair price I just get really hacked off that in the UK we always have to pay at least 20% more for software than in the US. The bank rate on the Dollar is about 1.55/£ so if in the US the car pack is $5.99 then in the uk is should be about £3.90 not £4.79 and no 89p is not a lot of money but when you look right across the software market it adds up the a massive amount of money being made off customers which must be factored in when setting prices in the rest of the world (we pay more so the US can pay less). I think with the DLC I find it even more annoying because there is no excuse that can be given as the overheads are exactly the same for any country. Oh and don’t get me started on hardware with the 1$/£1 fantasy exchange rate regardless of what the rate is even when it was pushing $2/£1 we where still paying more.
i have bought nearly all of the other DLC (except car pack 1) but i refuse to pay an additional £8 for a few cars and a test track.
there should be loyalty discount for GT fans who are consistantly buying DLC
but those prices are beyond a joke, especially when the likes of the leaf beetle and countryman are in there, i wouldnt pay for those with their performace figures…
How can you say these DLCs are priceful, when you see 2,5€/car price tags in the internet? PD doesn’t work for free, licensing those cars costs money, and the workers also want their money. These prices are way above the jokes. Seems that you just don’t understand the meaning of GT, neither it’s roots….
yea it may be like $3.99 here in states but thats pretty cheap than buying the $40 version of Gran Turismo XL just to get FREE dlc but u paid 40 bucks for it when u already wasted 119, or 60 on it depending the version but if u get a 20 dollar psn u can get both track and cars and then some for later on!
One last thought on the NISSAN LEAF:
1. The Nissan Leaf was selected car of the year in Japan on December 3rd.
2. PD has obviously interest in modeling electric/hybrid cars.
3. But only Nissan published sales figures of the Leaf on December 3rd.
4. This implies that the development time to model a car is about 25 man-days (not counting holidays and weekends).
5. This is good news for us!!!
And PD not having quite as many employees as others. Such a great job those guys are doin over there. I think I’ll plan a holiday trip to the Japanese West Coast see if may take look at the new studio. Just standing outside of it’ll do. Of course they dont just invite me in for some tea with Kaz, but that’s ok.
Yes its a hybrid but we had Prius in GT3-4 and 5 Prologue. but it don’t matter cause that Tesla is pretty rubbish, and it can be easily broken IN REAL LIFE TERMS (Top Gear when clarkson tests the Tesla) Lotus look Californian made NO WONDER!!!
@blackninja
4. This implies that the development time to model a car is about 25 man-days (not counting holidays and weekends).
You don’t when they started making the car. They could of started it months ago. The Leafs been around a little while. I saw a few back in June.
@Jah24car
Jeremy isn’t exactly friendly when he tests cars. Also usually a car company makes 1 or 2 models for road testing purposes, publicity etc. U don’t know how many miles that cars actually done and what tests its had to do.
not that i’m sticking up for Tesla btw. I’m not keen on them either
I suspect that the Beetle is included not simply because it’s a classic, but because VW have put some cash in the pot to get their latest Golf and Scirocco included. Manufacturer input probably has a huge influence in which models get made, particularly with the lower-end models which are less likely to be what the fans are screaming out for than the likes of the Aventador – which is why there are so many Nissans. I can see a Juke / Juke-R pack being on the horizon, and surely we’ll get the new NSX soon too.
@Factor41 you are so right, the companies wants game companies to do this by getting it in the game or vice versa. it cost money to get it to be made in the game thats why DLC is paid for. With out DLC I’d hate playing a game thats not fresh!! Lets just say if they put Juke-R on GT5 I’d buy it :)
i agree… the price is way too high. we seem to be getting less and less value w/ every new DLC. sadly enough i’ll probably buy it w/o hesitation. as for the leaf being an advancement in electric cars, please check out GMC EV1, a car that got 150 miles/charge back in 1999 on NiMH batteries. a battery patent eventually sold to chevron who sued toyota/panasonic to prevent them from using it in their RAV4 EV (100 miles/charge). so 76 miles/charge isn’t really that impressive more than 10 years later. look up solectria sunrise as well if you’re curious. tesla’s model S seems to be the best compromise of range/price/performance… coming soon!
/dismounts soapbox
so yeah…to sum it up, PD good… Sony very very very bad!
gimme more tracks, unique car models (w/o front license plates!!), and a real track editor…. sony is soooooooo wrong.
Arrived very late to the party here. 41 years young and just got my first PS3 and a copy of GT5! Already addicted and have bought the DLC released so far.
I can’t see what the problem is regarding DLC? It’s not compulsory and if you don’t like what’s on offer then simply don’t buy it.
All companies need to make a profit and the more profit they make, the better any future GT’s will be.
Loving it so far!!
Welcome Matty
Hey guys, the price has nothing to do with PD, thats down to Sony, anyway a packet of cigs will cost you 6 quid, get a grip…
Correct…Sony!!! Still, the price, per item is high (and I don’t smoke). Like another user said, it is not a matter of cost per se…
I will get these ones, but the price tag is a little over the top…! PD, review your MO for future DLC.
Hopkings, really, you never tried turning off the anti skid…tut tut. As far as i’m concerned GT5 is better in every department right down to the logo lol. Why are Forza fanboys even bothered by what goes on in the world of GT5 ? its an obvious answer methinks. Anyway this thread is not about Forza vs GT its about the awesome DLC we will soon have at our fingertips.
Hopkings, go back to your Xbox and cut out your sugar intake.
I don’t want to be negative, but I believe that the new track and the ability to get the max speed etc. should have been included in the game in the beginning, or free. It was an essential in gt5′s predecesors (GT3, Gt4), why not now?
