GTPlanet Interviews GT Academy Winners Tresson, Ordoñez
GTPlanet’s own Maziar Shahsafdari (Synwraith) joined RJN Motorsports last weekend for their first race of the season, and he’s come away with a new appreciation for GT Academy winners Jordan Tresson and Lucas Ordoñez. His close contact with everyone in the team has provided an inside look at who these guys really are, and explains how their mental toughness sets them apart from the rest of us. It’s not just Silverstone, they will race at Spa, Portimao, Nurburgring GP, Magny Cours and Paul Ricard, none of which have been in a Gran Turismo game yet. I think it would be unrealistic to expect a championship to exist that races at Daytona Road, Suzuka and Fuji etc purely for the purpose of the GT Academy programme. The game is just supposed to teach them the basics of racecraft and technique, and the Academy is there to see if the skills obtained through this experience can translate into real life. Racing drivers have to learn new tracks all the time, it comes with the territory.
Also, it should be noted that both winners of the Academy so far have been guys with a significant karting history and history of physical training.

Just a small question: If they’re racing at Silverstone, and the GT Academy is supposed to be about how GT series can make you a better racer, then how are the Academy guys supposed to practice Silverstone if it’s not in the game?

@ Rasmus I’m not saying drifting is the best motorsport but at least YOU see that it is a sport unlike some people above that think its a joke…in my opinion alms and formula one is the best and hardest form of racing don’t even get me started on wrc…..and okay not every driver needs to kno drifting so maybe I was a little arrogant in the beginning but I can’t believe a lot of ppl here said drifting is a joke or its a fad maybe u or somebody can at least give drifting credit where its due….

@ Z06onGT5: What are you on about? :S drifting is pretty cool, yes, but it’s an entirely different form of motorsport. According to you, maybe about 90 % of all the Formula One drivers, WTCC drivers, ALMS, LMS etc. drivers are… FAIL? Come on man, you must be joking. Drifting is in no way something every race driver is and should be capable of doing.
On topic: Great, great interviews, very thorough. Congratulations once again to mr. Tresson for winning GT Academy. You rock!

Drift really isn’t a motorsport. Its the figure skating of motorsports, none of the real drivers give a crap.
In America drifting events mainly attract ricers anyway. And drifting doesn’t make you a better driver at anything other than sliding sideways which can be learned in a Rally Car at a rally so drifting is pretty pointless.

@ all of you…..wow i didn’t kno all of you loved grip driving so much… If I knew i wouldn’t have sparked such a heated debate…for the record I wasn’t entirely hating on Mr tressons ability he won it hard and thru tough comp. I wuz just wondering if drifting skill was in his resume…and yes I do know how to drift I own a 92 240sx with welded diff and a 04 stang gt with no abs and traction control I live in Tucson AZ where there is a lot of mountain passes so I have honed my skill there don’t believe me? AZ240.org (240DK) so for u haters…Drift > Grip

Nice report from Maz, nice pics, thanks Jordan! I think we at gtplanet should keep an eye on “our” champions, and it sure is interesting to know what they are doing and how they are doing in the world of REAL motorsports!

I totally agree with you. Unless we are talking about racing which utilizes drifting skills such as rally and the like, drifting is slower and pointless. You dont want to drift in NASCAR, F1, Indycar, or any of the major sports car series such as IMSA and SCCA. In those series, if you have alot of “oversteer” or are really “loose” that is not viewed as a good thing. Your times will be slower and your tires will wear more quickly. Oh, but but boy will you look cool…haha!
