More GT6 Data Logger Details, Price & Track Compatibility

i1vynvUYM7Jlt

As we found out earlier this week, the GPS Data Logger feature in Gran Turismo 6 is set to be released in the game’s 1.06 update, which will be available to download on April 7th. We now have a bit more details on the feature, thanks to a press release from Toyota Japan.

i1N4p1BFitYvIThe car’s functionality will be called the “Sports Drive Logger”, and will be sold as a 91,800-yen (roughly $900 USD) option for the GAZOO Racing 86/BRZ Race car, available starting June 2, 2014 through Toyota Technocraft Co.

The press release describes GT6 as the “first application” compatible with the feature, and notes that “users will be able to compare their own driving data against those of professional drivers,” perhaps hinting at what the two companies have planned in terms of future events for the public at large.

Unfortunately, only three circuits will support the feature at launch, including Fuji Speedway International, Tsukuba Circuit 2000, and the Suzuka’s International Circuit, although the release promises that more are planned for the future.

Future circuits will likely include Willow Springs, where I went hands-on with the technology at a demonstration event, and the Nurburgring Nordschleife, where much of its development took place.

Stay tuned for more details on the GT6 1.06 update next week. Thanks to Ameer67 for the tip!

Hope they open this up to use GPS instead of pre-programmed tracks, as I live in the South (no where near any of the tracks mentioned thus far), and my tracks are what I want to upload and view. I have an FR-S, so I’m good there.

  2. TeamCZRRacing

    To the complainers:

This was a feature originally announced for GT5. When we didn’t get it, you guys went to town on PD because it was another missing feature. Now that we have it, you’re complaining that it’s pointless instead of at least thanking PD for all their hard work and being grateful that the feature is there for those who want it.

I have only three words: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

    1. Makkan786

Hard work? Promises, monthly dlc erm the zahara track was meant to be out on febuary also the bmw vision and pd not saying a single word about it how hard is it to inform fans its disrespectful and lame dude

    2. MLRSparco

Never heard anyone complain about not having this and even if they did we still can’t use it without the car or track.

    3. Magic Ayrton

We have some “interesting” characters on here to say the least.. “when GT5 didn’t get it” this is GT6 and that was 5 years ago.. no one cares. What we do care about is now.

  3. sind3ntosca

From what i understand, Kaz is unique person… instead of making everybody happy, he made something that we don’t need at first maybe… we just have to follow him, what he’s up to. That’s the idealistic person do, two step ahead…

I’m sure the future of GT would we better, and better… and better :)

  4. Makkan786

Hmmm i was goin to say why would i need a data logger to compare times with real racers? Im playn a game pd(-_-)

  5. HuskyGT

There will always be complainers, but the majority of us are long-time Gran Turismo followers and want nothing more than to see GT be the game that we all have wanted. It is called constructive criticism. Despite I’m done with GT for now and won’t be playing ever unless things change, I still believe it’s the best racing game out there. But being the best racing game out there makes all those little bugs, lack of features that lesser games offer and annoying inconsistencies weigh more than it should in the franchise. And these negatives are magnified when years go by and you see the the developer instead of doing anything about it, they just focus on things that add no value to the gaming experience for the average and vast majority of players.

Do you think we would be complaining if five months after the release, we had basic updates to fix unforgivable bugs or to slowly add features not only promised prior release, but also written in the box?

Even if we didn’t have those said updates; do you think we would “complain like crybabies” if PD kept communication with us who have supported them for more than a decade, even if it’s to tell us that there will be delays because of A or B reason?

Do you think we don’t have the right to complain? We are left to believe whatever we want to believe is happening with the game and all we see is our favorite game turning into some test bed for nonesense technologies inside the gaming world. This is a game, and PD has forgotten about that.

And after all, even if it’s just miserable $60, it was not free. It is something we paid for and not only PD hasn’t delivered, but the worse is that they don’t give any information on the future of the game (and I’m talking about the game;which is what matters. Not all those stupid merchandising alliances and activities outside the game.)

Personally, I’ll still keep an eye on things, hoping for the best. But as a fan I cannot feel anything else than betrayed. GT has been a disappointment ever since the PS3 was launched, but I’ve given it many years now, never quitting or never ceasing my support. But I’ve simply had it.

For now there is another game that has given me what I’ve been waiting from GT for years. Not only in terms of content, but also in fun factor. PD will have to work really hard to make me take out that disc from that blue box and pop it in my PS3 again.

    1. biftizmo

Ok all you guys agree then.that’s it then..you’ll be off then..its all over…i’ll miss you dudes moaning..its bin fun…ha ha..
or will you be getting your GT6 out the box and off the shelf …to see whats in this update…whoooo! its like xmas init…woooo what will it be ..will it be good will it be crap..whoo ..you dudes wont even read my message…cause you don’t care one stuff ,your gone…Done’ski…

    2. Steph290

Uhhm, we’re still here tho…and why would we need to take our games out their boxes to “see what’s in this update” when it’s…um…already announced in the above article? O_O

    3. Makkan786

Maybe pd will make a mistake adding a car like last time bmw m4 frozen black this time they might add the zahara track by mistake then remove it later

    4. ynot

I believe that the game for us is a ticket for PD’s bigger ideas and end goal. It’s not really about us getting a game. It’s not about the game at all. The games for us is a revenue stream for PD. There is no way they will sell millions data loggers for real cars. But the did sell millions of games to ultimately support their racing adventures and experimental device. They play….we pay. That’s the real deal here.

    1. Streeto

They usually release them 3:00am GMT don’t they?

      So… in 2 hours.

But if not, Japan still has 15 hours until the end of the 7th so… we got time.

  6. Steph290

Five months the game has been released and still no word on the progress of the features that were advertised and promised to be available upon release or within the month following. I think if I’ve paid money for a product and it fails to meet expectations that I should be acknowledged by the developers in some way. It is not fair to many, and for those who say why can’t we just be patient, it is the fact that we were lied to as far as a time frame. We are all fans or else we wouldn’t be here, but some of us will not want to wait a year for a feature, car, or track because by the time it gets here we may be doing something different in life and the money spent on this would have been for naught.

  7. biftizmo

aronh17 ..correct..all games were what u got bugs and all ..now years later we have updates.and the internet for complaints..its funny how some think this is the place of all places to do it…

  8. KyoDex

I personally think this is a really cool feature to have. I wonder if those complaining and saying “Bluh, only .01 percent of GT users will be able to use this.” Know that another use for this (That ANYONE can actually use) is to compare lap times with real Professional drivers? I dunno about them, but that’s pretty cool.
It’s kind of sad, seeing so many people getting worked up over something that they would think was awesome if they got their way like they want. Cause, you know, it’s the fact that these fixes don’t happen overnight that’s making people upset. People saying PD doesn’t care anymore need to wake up, realize that features like B-spec, Course Maker, Shuffle Racing, etc are things that will get here when they get here, and have some damn patience to see it when it happens.
Do I want these things? Of course.
Do I think because it hasn’t happened yet it means it never will or that throwing a fit will make it happen? No.
The reason “PD doesn’t listen (Waaah, boo-hoo)” is because you guys are angry and hostile. They don’t care about what you have to say if you say crap like that.
Did GT1 – GT4 have regular updates? No, and nobody complained.
What I think is: People are taking it for granted and they wanna get their way immediately.

    /rant
I’m gonna go ahead and wait for the stuff

    1. Master Weasel

“Did GT1 – GT4 have regular updates? No, and nobody complained.”

You know why nobody complained? Because GT1 – GT4 were offline games, so they actually had to be finished 100% before release. That’s pretty obvious.

    2. HuskyGT

      Nonsense.

-I highly doubt this feature will be able to replicate car/weather/track conditions. And I’m also sure that a real driver won’t drive the car in the same way someone would do in the game (in the game there is no consequence for taking risks).

-Even if this worked, it will only apply to one car. And speaking of the car, how will you know the real car’s setup? What if the in-game or real car is superior in performance than the other? There are so many variables to make this feature the most useless ever in the story of Gran Turismo.

-This is nothing more than a feature that lets you watch a simulated version of your real lap in the game.

-GT1-GT4 were great and complete games. Especially GT2 and GT4.

-You, like everyone else commenting in this news article won’t make use of this feature.

    3. TokoTurismo

” People saying PD doesn’t care anymore need to wake up”

No, YOU need to wake up and face reality. And yes PD doesn’t care what you think nor you defending them. How about you and others stop making up excuses for them because not like PD and Kaz will thank you anyway, because, as I said many times before, they don’t care.

    4. vr6cas

@pTokoForzaCARS, you keep saying how Kaz/PD don’t care about us, why don’t you say how YOU really feel, which is YOU don’t care about Kaz/PD anymore. I guess because your about to have more options of racing games, so go ahead and bite the hand that feeds you. lol.

    5. TokoTurismo

Why am I your only target? And no, GT is not mine only racing game to stick with. That’s just silly… Also, cute name, but I don’t want it thanks.

    6. KyoDex

      @Toko
What part of me explicitly saying that “features like B-spec, Course Maker, Shuffle Racing, etc are things that will get here when they get here” Make me the one who needs to face reality? How about instead of giving me crap and saying “Oh, you need to stop defending them” You do the opposite and read what I said, even though you don’t seem to look past that one sentence.
      @Weasel
Yeah, but my point is what would you do if GT6 was an offline game? How many people THEN would be acting like GT updates need to happen whenever they want them to?

    7. SZRT Ice

As an offline game, GT6 is more comparable to the 1st Gran Turismo. GT2 an GT4 are leagues ahead of GT6. Wow, that’s crazy… Answering your question has JUST made me realize JUST how bad GT6 ranks in its current state against its predecessors… Sad… -_-

You’re fighting a losing battle bruh.

“to compare lap times with real Professional drivers”
We can compare lap times against the guys at the top of each Seasonal Event Leader-board. Their digital time is bound to be MUCH faster than any real life lap time, and if not then I definitely won’t see it as fun or cool by a long-shot.

If it’s an unreachable “magical unicorn” lap time (which most steering wheel lap times are for DS3 gamers) it can be incredibly frustrating. And if it’s fairly easy to beat, it will only prove that digital racing is easier than real life racing. But then again, that’s not always true…

There’s an advantage in favor of both when you think about it. In real life, not only can you “see” and “hear” when you have wheel slip, but you can also “feel” hot the car is behaving through inertia. There are some who can drive cars very well, but when they get on GT, they’re crashing everywhere…

In-game however, the sense of danger isn’t so inherent. One can over shoot turns, crash and realize they need to tone it down through some turns and dial it back accordingly.

For experienced racers however, that approach doesn’t apply and even in a real car, the sense of fear/danger is overcome by experience.

I say, for the people going for the GTAcademy, the best ghosts will be the ones they set themselves, and the ones at the top of the leader-boards. That way they can shave away at their mistakes.

Everyone has slightly different driving habits & styles. At the end of the day, you’ll mimic and follow someone else’s line to get that gold lap time or whatever, to better refine your line on a track, etc., but you’ll revert back to your own racing tactics and habits when racing in a pack. Lest we all start driving like GT6’s A.I., I think the ability to assess when to take it & when to wait, and to familiarize oneself with their own instincts and abilities
makes for more enjoyable racing than ghost chasing.

    8. Streeto

Of course GT1-GT4 didn’t have updates, DLC & Post-release updates weren’t really the thing back then, especially for consoles. They had to provide a complete game, or nothing, because there wasn’t actually a way of updating without releasing an entirely new disc/game (expansion packs?).

Long story short, you can’t compare games from now with games from back then when it comes to “updates”, the gaming industry was completely different, they didn’t rely on such things for success.

    9. TokoTurismo

@KyoDex I already read what you wrote, and I won’t be reading it again. PD will just have you waiting lord knows when, and when those features do come in, that’ll show we’re the last priority over manufacturers from PD…

    10. SDSPOWER01

Couldn’t agree more, but the problem is everyone has a different perspective of seeing things. Mainly the complainers here are the “hardcore” fans of Gran Turismo, they complain because they want what’s best for the game which I also agree. But the only difference here is that I’m a very patient guy and I believe that these necessary features will come soon enough.

    11. zooburner

Did GT1 – GT4 have regular updates? No, and nobody complained.

Gt1-GT4 were complete games, we knew exactly what we were buying, unfortunately with online connectivity they are releasing less than complete games with a promise to update later.

The problem being is, in a few years when online is turned off for GT6 we will put our sad disks in and be left with the limp lettuce of a game that was pre-update. I can still play the full GT1-GT4 ( and I have started doing so to at least feel like I’m racing) , frankly GT5/GT6 are a shadow of the games that came before them.. sure they are pretty, but I don’t feel like I am racing at all, just driving round a track to get credits.

  9. vr6cas

Ok, but facebook did’t have all the features it has now at the start of facebook, now did it? It took time and ALOT of updates to get it where it’s at today. Same with GT6. It’s going to have alot more features at the end of it than it’s start. Just like Facebook, it’s still not the end for Gran Turismo, Zuckerburg is buying and testing new and innovative technology to use in FB. Kaz is doing the same thing, but the problem is everyone wants this technology yesterday, but don’t realize or to impatient to wait till it comes out next week. (not really next week but you know what I mean)

    1. Zuel

      +10
As some will say” We’re all kids at heart”, which explains how very passionate some of kids at heart are and will to come. How we can complain without noticing what is truly there, and how we compare without knowing what is involved.

    2. SZRT Ice

I understand your views, but facebook never went completely back on itself. Removing features that were already there, and omitting basic modern day improvements for things that catered to a radically different audience. Zuckerberg wasn’t snooty enough to do as he pleased and completely ignore what was happening on other platforms which were similar to facebook which could be seen as competition. He did what the competition did and 1.

He took what was going on on multiple mediums and combined them on one platform. Never failing to stay on top of what was trending and keeping the central functionality of facebook grounded before venturing into the unknown.

This is the issue we have with PD/GT6. Not the future stuff, but the basic features of GT and of racing games across the board that is missing in GT6. The fundamentals that should’ve been shipped with the game or added within the first few weeks or month or two. Why don’t you get that?

  10. vr6cas

Tell em aronh17, some people will just never “get it” I guess. What if Mark Zuckerburg said I am not going to crate facebook? I bet alot of people said that was going to be useless to. Look at Mark now, and look how FB has changed the way we communicate.

Besides, GT4 and 5 had a data logger, so what’s wrong with Kaz putting it in 6. Nothing I’d say. Alot of you say it’s useless because you do not care or have the “know how” to actually use it. The ones that say it’s useless are probaly the ones putting RS tires on everything they drive and stage 3ing everything before they even drive the car, then when it does’nt drive right they say it’s garbage.

    1. SZRT Ice

      You don’t “get it”.

Zuckerberg recently bought out the VR technology for Oculus Rift, there are many ways it can be implemented into facebook, yes. But say if Zuckerberg took away photo sharing, sending messages, posting on peoples wall, and all other chat type features, and released and focused primarily on this VR tech 1st? Alienating the way facebook worked as a whole, and focusing on a completely different demographic before tending to what made facebook… “facebook” in the first place!

That’s more akin to what’s happening here. We see the usefulness in the tech. We see how it can be a great thing in the future. But what about the here and now? GT6 is wounded and this is like sticking a band-aid on a broken leg at current.

  11. SZRT Ice

“Unfortunately, only three circuits will support the feature at launch, although the release promises that more are planned for the future.”

Why does this sound so familiar? Haven’t we heard something like this before?… Hmm….

    1. aronh17

It does sound familiar… Sounds like someone needs to brush up on their vocabulary. I think future means something that will come after the present time. Nowhere in the dictionary does it say that future is synonymous for now or present. Sorry, looks like you’ll have to be patient!

    2. SZRT Ice

What? The present is the future of the past. So if we were supposed to get things shortly after the games release (track creator & other features), that future has come & gone. Come on, you’re a clever lad. Even you can figure that out. :) By the time the future they speak of gets here, we’ll be playing GT8: Prologue!

    3. aronh17

The present time being when they stated those updates will be in the future, which was some time after the reveal trailer. So currently we’re waiting for the future to happen still, AKA the updates, and with the game being 5 months old the updates can still come.

  12. LR-MR-Cole

This is amazing a function that 95% of gt users will not be able to use. I will cause I drive for Gazoo Racing and own a gt86.

  13. biftizmo

Traditionally games are made, any trademarks used or associations to real cars, developers have to pay for and in some cases limited use of..Porsche comes to mind…
so cars could come and go from the game over time..depending on contracts…
Would it not be better if the car/racing industry came to see GT as a accentual part of the design, development, testing and the only places worth showcasing your products.
All these things are happening within GT.
If you cant stop to contemplate the words..”closing the virtual divide” then this will never make any sense to you…
what no selfish retort..whats wrong with this comment..was it contemplated by 999.9% of you..but the “kids are not down with it” is direct hit with 999.9% of you…

    1. SZRT Ice

Talking about how great the features are that are being brought into the game…

Unfortunately, that can only be done if great feature are being brought into the game….

  14. DBalog

Pd should give this logger for free, and then they could see that no one is using it!
At the end, this is something, something totally unnecessary!

  15. 1gt6freak

Looks like PD is busy signing contracts with car manufacturers than making video games. I guess Toyota wanted to be part of PD, since nissan is their competitor. This GT series is turning out to be a cash cow for PD, but us gamers are left behind again.

  16. aronh17

Because rejecting any sort of invention or technology has always been good for the world, right? The internet was not widely used when it was launched, and was even at some point considered a fad that would blow over. Now it’s used by a plethora of people and has changed the way the world works. Any new tech should be accepted as you may not know what it can do or how it may change things. Just because something doesn’t cater to your needs, doesn’t render it useless. Seriously though, imagine if they just said, well let’s not make the internet because not a lot of people would use it…

    1. Hypergolem

Is that hard to understand? People. customers are not pissed because of the innovation but because PD and Kaz are giving us features that will be barely used and usable by the 99.9% of the players instead of giving us what was promised from the beginning (remember? we paid for it). Features that would make the game fun, playable and good value for the money we paid.

    2. aronh17

I forgot the article stating that PD is done developing anything for GT6, can you please link that to me? We paid $60 for a completely finished title, with the promise of revamped features in the future. The game released 5 months ago, GT5 received updates for over 2 years. I’m pretty sure the time frame is still in order.

  17. Lambob

The Great(Kaz) Gazoo is a tiny, green, floating alien who was exiled to Earth from his home planet Zetox(Feudal Japan) as punishment for having invented a doomsday machine(Sony PlayStation), a weapon of immense destructive power. His invention was a button(The PS-Home button) which if pressed would destroy the universe in an explosive “ZAM,”(chime login to PS Store) though he insists he made it on a whim(Prologue) (“I wanted to be the first on my block to have one!”(PS3FAT from ebay for $2500) with no intent of using it.(Has no money left for internet) Gazoo(Toyota) was discovered by Fred and Barney when his flying saucer crashed(due to reverse suspension bug); Gazoo recognizes Fred’s and Barney’s world as prehistoric Earth(Tsubuka all over the map), implying Zetox(GTPlanet) banished him through time as well as space.

    “Dum Dums”

  18. FrzGT

Great, a feature with device that cost more than THE WHOLE PS3 AND GT6. Cool yes but unbenefical for almost all GT6 players considering the limitations.

  19. Magic Ayrton

I logged in to GT6 this week for the first time in ages and got an error message which signed me out mid corner… then my mate laughed as an ai glitch saw a car disappear into the ground .. but it’s so good that I can use all the DLC that was advertised on the website after the games release.. oh wait..

  20. kollosson

BTR330 your right, nothing posted on this or any other site will change a damn thing, I mean in terms of changing public opinion it takes a media campaign costing millions and even then it doesn’t always work, all these positive, negative posts amount to nothing other than getting people to argue over opinions, its futile really.

    1. BTR330

Kollosson, you really seems to be ‘on the mission’ defending GT vs. any other game or criticism with lot of ambition & perseverance, you behavior reminds me a bit of those from the ‘Jehova’s Witnessess’ ,are you a member? lol ;D

  21. kollosson

The track maker in GT5 was ok, very limited but good fun all the same. It is probably quite a technical effort to create, even if it was very basic in terms of the options you had. This new course maker that they have mentioned must be so much more advanced in order to incorporate GPS data, I mean if you can drive down any stretch of road and replicate that in the game then I’m assuming you can also build just about any kind of track you want to. That’s going to take some doing, I think the wait will be well worth it.

  22. BTR330

Get a life guys for real eh…Or if you’r a ‘no life’ like myself, invite some friends pump up the volume and get wasted instead, make a spin to the kathouse to release stress,or how about just smashing your heads against wall for a minute? Any of these options make more sense then all what’s going on here…Ok PD/Sony suck b#lls bigtime, they ripped us off promising content that most likely won’t see the day of light in GT6,game is full of annoying flaws n’ bugs, communication is nearly inexistant etc etc..But how about to just get over it and stop acting like little princesses who are not getting what they want? NO,you are NOT the center of the universe ladies and YEAH,PD does not give a f*ck obviously…No surprise if it ever occured that they went on here, reading what the almighty ‘desperate Racewifes’ are thinking so about their game…That forum look more like being about ‘animal crossing wild’ or ‘Furby’ or something like that, then being about a racing game my word eh…lol ;D

    1. BTR330

Imagine tomorrow is World War III , but who is going to fight the enemy ? LOL At least one promise has been kept by Mr. Yamauchi, ‘more human drama’ for all the dramaqueens out there, going real fast…xD Cheers ya’ll n’ have a nice one…lol

    2. Magic Ayrton

They might care when 50% fans stop buying GT7 and a PS4 (if it ever releases). That is how the sensible ones will vote.. People do have a right to be slightly annoyed and let down. They have a right to complain.. and yes, that’s life.

    3. BTR330

I actually agree with the ‘complainers’ Magic..Yeah we been ripped off, things have been falsely advertised etc, totally agree..60€/$ we paid for a incomplete game that was only worth 40€/$ ,dammit Sony, what a mistake to trust them on this, but won’t happen again lesson learned, avoid Sony products in future.Best you can do as little consumer.Flooding the net with your personal opinion won’t help much unless your called Malcolm X or mahathma Gandi…Or Kim Kardashian…lmao

    4. BTR330

On the other side, being so angry about a racing game as so many here seem to be just shows what a wonderful life they are living actually, if that is the biggest worry in your life…lol Sooner or later The day may come where ya’ll feel nostalgic about these days where your biggest problems we’re updates in GT6 like ‘damn, back in time on GTP,good old days’….;D

    5. SZRT Ice

And your life must be wonderful considering the terms you use to judge the lives of others? Intriguing.

    6. BTR330

@SZRT Ice – Sorry if you did felt personally concerned about my post ,but i certainly not judged anyone specificly with that comment because 1: It would be quite narrow minded judging someone via a few phrases spit on the internet 2: My visits on GTP are that limited that i not had time to elaborate a psychogram of each member yet, neither following any individuals and what they commenting…lol The Only Thing i judged ,was the overall ‘whining vibe’ that’s reigning here lately, while even in main part i do agree with the complaints, i don’t get the reason of the never ending repetitions of the same statements over and over again…Where’s My Trackmaker PD?! Where’s my DLC?! Where’s my Sound update?! And so on…No idea what people are expecting with that, but it has certainly not a quantum of impact on the way PD sheduled their updates/fixes i think, instead it rather looks like by launching this kind of useless feature instead of fixing the game, that it is PD’s way of saying : screw ya’ll ! LOL ;D

    7. BTR330

And the conclusion that all of the whiners out there, making such an huge heartbraking drama out of a totally bugged game wich is missing a few main features that where promised, saying that those must live otherwise most likely a super happy life like in the fairytales, you must reckon that it is pretty legit…lol

  23. kollosson

lol@TokoTurismo The reason I even mention Forza 5 is because GT6 looks as good if not better and F5 is next gen!!! and on top of that has huge content and features that make F5 look like a demo. I know its stupid even commenting on here because it changes nothing, I just can’t help replying to idiot comments…..

    1. TokoTurismo

Than why at times do you say Forza is arcade? Can you explain that? Also, yes GT6 has a lot of content, but its missing lots of features that were advertised. And comments like mine are idiotic? I think not.

  24. kollosson

Sorry ZEROTHEKNIGHT, just realised the sarcasm in your post, its early in the morning, need more caffine lol

    1. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

Yes … When i said ( where is ) i meant why those were forgotten like they don’t exist – i guess my sarcasm was understood wrong here <:)
And there are good and bad points between both ganes but in most GT takes the cake.
I just said the truth before.

  25. kollosson

@ZEROTHEKNIGHT, you’re joking right, all the features you point to being absent are actually present, if you are going to troll try not to be so obvious…

    1. TokoTurismo

And you should stop saying Forza is this, Forza is that while defending PD. I understand it hurts that Forza is better than GT but really? :)

    2. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

      Actually the whole opposite XD
I actually meant on why do they forget that those features are available and those information already occured !
When i said ( Where is ) i meant in sarcasm manner ( was it forgotten that they exist ? ) and sadly it was misunderstood that they’re absent when i meant the opposite XD
Sadly my comment was removed – wish it’ll brought back to clear the misunderstanding of my comment <:)

  26. kollosson

I think it was Toyota that developed this tech way back and I think the phone app GPS thing has obviously come from that. It should not be hard to record and use GPS data, just like a Sat Nav and then drop it into the game, of course we need the track maker but I’m sure all this stuff is on the way…

    1. Ben Rogue

Yeah, that’s about the only racing game I’m looking forward to at this point. That and Drive Club, only because it’ll be free on PS Plus!

    2. TokoTurismo

All I know is it’s coming in this year (2014), but don’t know which month. It should possibly come out around fall or winter. :)

  27. stuff1138

Wooo! I’m going to fly straight to Japan buy myself a Toyota GT86 and hit the tracks as soon as this comes out…I’m so excited….

What is this crap? What’s the point?

    Ugh

  28. biftizmo

This tech was probably fully realized back when David Culthard did the time on the topgear test track
we always had the so called “data logger” from the start but it only ever logged your virtual laps..but they must have used the tech way back then.
This is an additional realization to what they had built to be GT5 in they way its built.
(That’s what the solar system and moon thing is all about).

now what your seeing is the finale fine tuned product..this was always going to happen..
For you who are not bothered it means you get your data logger function back in GT6…if you ever missed it…
But the upside is now this is done,a GPS course maker will be a much more exciting of a promise if you can just hold on….

    1. FPV MIC

Sorry mate but nowhere does this article say you are getting the Data Logger function back. IT SAYS, The Data Logger is a 91,800-yen (roughly $900 USD) option for the GAZOO Racing 86/BRZ Race car, available starting June 2, 2014 through Toyota Technocraft Co.

    2. SZRT Ice

And if THIS is the tech needed for the GPS track creator feature they mentioned, and it’s not in fact, actually a cell phone app, Then I can count out another feature I was looking forward to.

  29. Ben Rogue

The rest of the 1.06 update must either be really good or really bad for them to only be teasing this essentially useless feature in GT6. Of course it’ll be cool to race against other pro’s lap times but they are selling the feature all wrong, they need to be emphasizing the track creator feature more as that will be about the only part the 99.99% of us will actually use or utilize.

I think the GT franchise is at a point where very few fans and GT players believe a single thing Kaz says and have very little passion for the game any more. We have seen very few pieces of extra content, nothing new in terms of vision GT, and no clear time line for any new DLC, cars or tracks, seasonal packs, etc. Personally I won’t be paying much attention to GT6 until we get some decent content and features. I’m holding out hope that GT7 on PS4 will mean a fresh start. There are obvious improvements in GT6 over GT5 such as adaptive tessellation, HDR, the detail put into the new tracks but there are still major flaws that could very easily be fixed. My heart sank when they said there would still be standard cars in GT6. Come on PD, if you can’t do the job properly let someone else do it!

    1. Ben Rogue

Didn’t Kaz promise new cars and tracks every month from release? What happend to the Vision GT cars? We’ve had one in like 4 months, at this rate we won’t get the rest for about 5 years! It’s nice that the content so far has been free but I can’t see how they can justify the amount of time it’s taking

  30. GBO Possum

    To clarify.

“the GPS Data Logger feature in Gran Turismo 6 is set to be released in the game’s 1.06 update”.

Sorry, but the Data Logger is NOT part of GT6. The Logger is the device which collects data. GT6 will be updated in 1.06 to import the logged data. Data logs collected can be transmitted to anybody and imported into any device with software capable of reading and interpreting that log.

You don’t need GT6 to capture the log. GT6 will be one of probably many ways to process that log.

    1. SZRT Ice

It’s work. Not entertainment. This helps you do a job, not have fun. Kaz cares about capturing real racers now. Not overly concerned with “gamers”. Actions speak louder than words and the writings on the wall…

  31. Roosta

Great update! I guess I will continue chasing the rabbit and keeping my laptimes on my excel sheet… This is what lack of competition does to a franchise.

  32. SZRT Ice

I think it would be more efficient to attache so GoPro Cameras to your car and a chase car.

Get a bunch of friends with digital cameras or modern cellphones to stand around different points of the track, take the footage to Windows Movie Maker and make your own replay.

Analysis would work much better that way, and racing your in-game ghost is likely more useful than a real life one.

    1. biftizmo

Then you never got your gold Trophy in GT5 for data logger..theirs a lot more to it than visuals…

    2. SZRT Ice

The only reason I’d wanna send a ghost around the world would be to play pranks on people. That would be more fun than this.

And I’d rather do some “actual logging” and log logs than log data. Boring…

I’m not saying this stuff isn’t useful. GT is clearly a tool for people wha want to get into the world of racing IRL, but there is more to GT and the reasons people play it than that.

It’s clear that this is just laying the groundwork for things to come. But the timing is horribly wrong. The course of action is too weak on the real world side of things (3 track locations? Only in Japan? Only available on one car?) and the game side of things is in utter chaos and neglect.

The key thing about attracting a new audience is to make sure you don’t alienate your old ones. At the end of the day, whether they want to admit it or not, Gran Turismo is a VIDEO GAME on a VIDEO GAME SYSTEM. And like Final Fantasy and Need For Speed of yore, PD is stepping away from what made people attracted to their GAME in the 1st place.

The game side of things is not taken care of. We should not have to wait 4 months to have decent online features and races. GTAV took care of those things within a week or 2 of its online launch (albeit a month after the game launched) and had major server overloading to deal with. Why do we still have such issues 4 months after GT6’s release? And still no community features?

If PD really only cared about being a simulator, and not so much about being a game, why not leave the console business completely and develop a program for PC? Right, because they don’t want to do that.

So then appease your audience first! The gamers! We should’ve had a vinyl editor by GT3 or at least GT4, still none by GT6. Community features were a plus in GT5, N/A in GT6 4 months in. Where are our tracks? “The amount of (tracks) will be such that will make a hat fall off your head.” My hat’s still on PD! I don’t care about having them all right now, but can I get an announcement/ETA/release schedule?

Do the manufactures have an ETA for their VGT productions? Do you know it? Most companies have deadlines for these types of things, it’s hard to believe it’s on a “we’ll get them when they’re ready…” type of basis. What about the extra rims and car parts that are due in a future update? Are they still coming? How about the Track Editor/ETA? Zahara?/ETA? Club racing? Car gifting? Photo streaming? Wall posting? B-Spec Bobbing? (Lol), Endurance Racing? Free Roaming?… Ugh, why do I bother…

Amazing how we still love you guys and your cardboard, featureless games…

  34. TokoTurismo

I’m so excited that PD will piss off all their fans again. I mean, they always do, do they not? :D

  35. blackjack

I really wish Kaz’s priorities were better aligned to the mass of GT6’s fanbase. This feature should have been the last one to be added imo.

    1. Magic Ayrton

It’s clear they are using the game as a marketing tool for new products.. let’s just hope it doesn’t all backfire in their faces.. however, PD could always just carry on in the real Automotive market if need be.

  36. AngelPlayStar

GAZOO Racing 86/BRZ Race car available starting June 2 2014 … why introducing GPS with something that no one can use except Kazunori .. … I think there is something good to smoke in PD … Kazuuuu… give us the rest of the list!

  37. mef

jiasli, I agree with your sentiment but regarding physics it was good enough to teach the GT Academy winners valuable skills that transferred into the real world. Gran Turismo 5/6 may not be 1 to 1 lap time accurate but that is not really what one should be looking for in GT. Not sure if there are any simulators out there that could be lap time accurate to a specific car. The margin due to mismatched tires would be in the seconds. Having said that I’m sure PC sims have even better physics. It does not mean GT’s physics are bad, it has to be seen in a console context I would say. Also remember where Gran Turismo comes from, it was never the dead serious sim that people want it (?) to be now. It changed with GT Academy. Before we had a really cool driving game with quirky oil change animations. Now the sense of quirkiness has been lost, for good or for worse.

  38. jjaisli

What I find a bit ironic is that I have a pretty nice setup in my basement: A large plasma TV, a 5.1 surround sound system, a T500 and TH8 shifter set up on a playseat. And I also own a 2013 Scion FR-S as a second car. Red too, just like in the picture. And I’m going to be doing some track time this year. In that sense, this would otherwise be a great tool for me. And I’d love to try it out. But I can’t use it because, at the moment, it only works on 3 tracks, located in Japan. And oh, it only works with a $950 accessory. Are you kidding?

Can ANYBODY tell me why PD would possibly push this now, instead of some of the promised community features? Or more DLC? Or more events? Or putting a big team together to fix the atrocious AI? Aside from the fact that I don’t live in Japan, I’m probably in the 1% of GT6 owners who actually WOULD or otherwise even COULD use this. (If only I live in Japan)

Their goals and priorities are so out of whack, it’s not funny. But at this point, I barely care anymore. I come to GTP only for the iRacing or Assetto Corsa sections. I just find it amusing to see the same old people on here, from years ago, still defending anything and everything this company does.

    1. HuskyGT

Just curious. If they made a local track available for you to use this feature with your Scion; would you spend $950 for the device just so you can watch your lap as a replay in the game?

    2. jjaisli

@HuskyGT, Yeah, that’s another issue. $950 is a LOT to spend for the logging device. You can spend less for some pretty decent GPS options out there that work already now. Although none of them let you view your car in GT6. The closest tracks to me are Lime Rock, NJ Motorsports Park and Watkins Glen. I plan to hit at least 2 out of 3 this season. And of course, none of them are available in GT. If they were, I *might* consider it. Although I’d have to first be convinced of it’s accuracy. It’s a lot of money to spend just to watch your virtual car drive around the track. And I know this is a blasphemous comment with this lot, but I don’t think the physics engine in GT6 is anywhere near realistic enough to make this a viable option in reverse (practicing in the game for the real thing).

  39. Amac500

I mean I live in Michigan, where am I ever gonna use this even if I had a comparable car. The closest track in the game to me is Indy, and the road course layout there hasn’t been accurate in game for years and Indy doesn’t even do track days. The next closest track to me is Daytona, and the road course layout there is inaccurate too. The one in GT6 hasn’t exsisted for a couple years and hasn’t been used in even longer. So your telling me that for me to use this I would have to buy a compatible car and drive it for 5 days nonstop to Willow Springs on the opposite coast and then drive all the way back and put it on my PS3. Why? This is pointless. At best it will only ever be able to be used by 1% of GT players MAYBE.

    1. HuskyGT

Even if that 1% decides to use it, how helpful can it really be? It’s just a pointless amusement that I’m sure not even the ones that have access to this will ever use.

  40. PhillGuy

I don’t see some one who can afford the data logger, the car, and the track time (and car maintence, fuel etc.0 to be hopping over to thier ps3 to play gt6 at the end of the day. This is irrelivent.

    1. Amac500

I mean they might but what good would it do theme? And what good does it do the other 99.9999% of GT players?

    2. HuskyGT

That is a very nice observation. I was thinking if anyone in Japan that is interested in the racing 86 will even consider buying this. For a serious race car driver/team who have much more important things to do than to go home and play videogames, I think irrelevant is the right word.

Even if they would, how useful will be to just watch a replay of their real life lap? If I were one of them, I would see it as a one-time only amusement to show to my friends on some spare time to never be used again.

  41. Amac500

Well that certainly doesn’t count as a major update if that’s all their is, cus it will affect about 5 people in the world. This can’t be all that’s in the update though, there’s gotta be something else in it. I don’t know how much time and resources they spent on this but it really doesn’t seem like it needs to be done. Gives us some content!

  42. biftizmo

Was available in GT5 this data logger. Now the real world gets to use it to. I think this kit is well developed and brought down to a tidy package. Of course its with the Toyota because they developed it.But its looking like a product to market venture…i can see this would be a cost effective way of car driver analysis than the currant way its done…it worked for Nissan at the Norburging…got them a class win if i remember.. There going to make a mint out of this little bit of kit…and every car manufacture in the world are gonna wanna be in this game for free.

  43. Humungus

I really don’t like the direction PD is taking. I mean c’mon, a feature that has about nothing to do with the game and that only works on 3 tracks with 1 specific car? Shouldn’t you make a decent game with decent replay value first? Problem is, as long as there are idiots (sorry) who buy their game PD will think that the players support them in what they do and how they do it.
It’s about time we give them a wake up call.

  44. BWX

All this crap ad they won’t even fix game breaking bugs like pitstop race tire bug, and crap ai that lets you win, and dark cockpits, and headlights that don’t work, and the camber bug (doesn’t work at all)..

    Kaz must hate GT fans.

    1. TokoTurismo

      “Kaz must hate GT fans.”

Same thing I said bud. :) Kaz doesn’t about us, even those who defend his game. xD

    2. HUSKYFLOPZAPC

I think people are whining too much not realising that GT has 37+ tracks with multiple layouts. Let alone 400+ premium cars. Yet on every GTP post I see 2 certain people bashing GT, yet praising forza on the fact that it only has 14 tracks and 189 cars and of-course PC’s 60 cars. Makes me wonder if they’re paid by turn 10 or sms to bash GT.

  45. kayto101

I thought the GPS tracker was going to be an app to make a track from real worlds typical PD giving all the best stuff to japan

  46. catamount39

So if you live in Japan, have a race team with the Gazoo GT-86, and can afford to go to those 3 tracks you’re going to have a very nice new toy. For everyone else…uh…not much. I REALLY hope that there is some other stuff in this update.

    1. TokoTurismo

I’m confident there won’t be anything good in this update. Then kollosson is going to come in and say “Oh because Forza this, and Mario Kart that” as if they have anything to do with this update. xD

  47. kollosson

Can’t understand some people on here claiming GT is not a simulator? what on earth are you talking about, if it were not it would not be able to support this feature would it, again I have to remind folks that this is on PS3 and it is making so called next gen games like Forza 3 look like Mario cart. We have not got all the features yet but they are coming and when they do GT will be the best most comprehensive racing game on any console…

    1. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

Excuse me ~~~ … GT is Simcade ?
1- where is the updated suspension psychics ?
2- where is the updated tires psychics ?
3- where is the improved aerodynamics simulation ?
4- where is the updated AI ?
5- where is the nitrous feature ?
6- where is the updated night scenery using identical astronomical data ?
7- where is the ability to honk horns – windshield wipers & flashing lights ?
8- where is the nice range of smoke screen from the tires ?
9- where is the prove of the usability of the identical data in GT psychics for practice before having a real race ( and he won in 2011 ) on a real course like Nurburgring when Kaz used it as a training tool ?
10- where is the usability for the players to use the collected experience from the game to put it to the test in GT academy to help them becoming real racers enough to battle pros & winning on real racing events ?

  48. WonkyFonk

It does seem as though PD shouldn’t be in the gaming industry anymore, and should move over to more automotive fields. These technologies have their place, but just not in a game. GTPlanet should be a game appreciation site, but it’s got a quite angry vibe these days. That’s not the site’s fault of course, and indeed it’s not the fan’s fault either. We are expecting something different to what is being delivered. Vast numbers of us are highlighting that every day.

    1. Tenacious D

“GTPlanet should be a game appreciation site, but it’s got a quite angry vibe these days. That’s not the site’s fault of course”

Oh yes it is. This is another example of how the world is filling up with self-absorbed, entitlement minded brats. You guys act like PD have been sitting around not working on stuff. You also carry on as if everyone there has one job, whatever job you think isn’t being tended too. So for sound guys, the team is made of 150 sound designers watching hentai all day or something. Or suddenly everyone’s a coder not taking care of the online tools and community features we want. Or modelers not upgrading Standard cars and tracks.

Everyone has something to do there, and whatever they’re doing, they’re working hard at. We’ll know more by May, hopefully, because Ayrton Senna content should be about ready, and E# will be right around the corner..

    2. Tenacious D

By the way, “you” is a general term I mean to apply to the millions of net crawlers and napalmers that make up the intranets these days. And not a few GT Planet grinches.

    3. pasigiri

I feel the Same way about PD and their direction. It almost seems like they need to divide the company up, one focused on automotive/racing ventures and the other gaming. It would be kind of cool to have a racing game developed by a company that actually does simulators for racing teams. Then again, this might be where they are headed.

    4. MJRL

Tenacious D, some of the “brats” that you are talking about, work from 0:00 to 8am and payed for some things that where advertise in the cover, and some other things that were mentioned in interviews, and after four months they didn’t get any of those.
I don’t care about the promises, i didn’t believe in most of them, i just want the game to be fixed, i think at least i have that right.

I hope the next time you buy a car you just get the chassis and engine, the rest of the car you will received in a future update… ;)

    5. biftizmo

      Tenacious D
There Blurring the divide…only the kids don’t like it..some say they should go 2 different ways..instead of closing the gap….PD Have got it right…

    6. SZRT Ice

Not a kid & I don’t like it. Just a guy who wants to enjoy his favorite game with the features that were advertised during his free time with a couple of good friends.

Belittlement is uncalled for & unecessary and makes you look like the kid.

    7. NA

Lol, Sony marketing could say PD is “Farxing the new labado of beanniemookas!”, and there would still be people qouting it like it’s the ultimate proof positive demonstration of PD superiorty and perfection, (rather than just another vauge, feel good advert slogan). XD

But yeah, bad vibes. Not nearly has much kool-aid going around has there used to be, and most of the more independant minded members, (that I personally like to think make up the majority of membership), just seem to have tired of things overall has of late.

Still, I’ve seen worse. At least you can still have a discussion or two here.

  49. celtiscorpion73

At first, I thought this would be intriguing. Now, even PD is downgrading it. If PD is downgrading something at this point, why even put it out?
PD, it’s time to focus on the fans’ wants and needs and to stop trying to put out irrelevant garbage nobody cares about.
We can only hope there will be more substantial “meat” to this update that will give us something better. Guess we’ll know Monday…

  50. TokoTurismo

*Yawn* Guess Kaz really doesn’t care anymore. Why will anyone want to defend GT, when Kaz doesn’t give a flip about his fans? I don’t understand?

I soooo can’t wait to see GT7P flop. pCARS will be my new paradise with the amount of tracks it has. :)

  51. Hypergolem

I really don’t understand PD and Kaz… what is in their minds. They are giving us futuristic features that nobody cares for and almost nobody will use…
Are they really so out of touch with the customer base? Because if it is like it looks like, then the GT series is done…

  52. vr6cas

This guy just said GT is not a simulator, I just lold to that, welp, can’t take nothing you say serious. And if some people play because of the fun and passion of cars, if that was true people would not be on here saying the game/company is dead. To me GT is alive and well, in fact just hitting it’s stride with the fun and passion of driving automobiles. I agree with you Zeeto, this going to be a welcome addition to GT, I’m going to use it.

  53. faburisu

They better name this feature ” Useless 99% ” …
Seriously that thing only run with a special japanese only edition of the 86…
And works only with three Big Japanese only circuit…

    So 99% of GT6 players dont own a GT86
99% will never trip to any of this three locations
    And 99% of the reader of this news thinks ” F*# ¥! that’s useless … ”

That said , where is the track editor ?

  54. HuskyGT

I love how some people tried to defend this feature as being something pretty innovative and useful for players. This news article proves more than before how this feature is completely useless. Even if you lived in Japan, I don’t think many people would buy a racing version of a 86/BRZ and the ones that do will probably not make use of this.

15 of playing this game and defending it blindly, now I sadly agree with some of the harsh comments here; Gran Turismo as a game franchise is dead.

What hurts the most is that although I’ve been enjoying the heck out of Forza 3 in the past week, I still think Gran Turismo is BY FAR a much better game. Even though I miss GT, just thinking of all the negatives is enough to put the box back in the shelf and power on my buddy’s Xbox instead of my PS3.

    1. TokoTurismo

Don’t be shy, it’s okay if you feel/admit Forza is better than GT HuskyGT. :) Even I myself say it’s better, even pCARS is better than GT.

It’s just those times when you can’t take something anymore, and you just want to find something else that fill up your needs. GT pretty much ran the end of its course.

    2. SZRT Ice

I’ll deviate here. PD will get it together eventually, even if it’s after taking some heavy hits. But I refuse to switch to the XBox. I can’t tolerate it’s controler (triggers) for a long period of time… Awaiting PCars, Drive Club, and Asseto Corsa (And even the Crew, yes) until GT6, GT7, or GT8 (GT9??? Yeeesh?!? O_O) gets it together.

  55. Zeeto

Everyone can use data logger… It’s in GT5… It’s actually very useful if you play GT as a simulator and try to shave tenths off your lap. Most people complaining about it just have NO idea how to read or use data logging, so they say its useless, and complain like children. Well good for those “children”, dont play GT and don’t use it, data logger isn’t a child’s toy anyway.

    1. HuskyGT

The only problem is that GT is not a simulator, and it’s not that the feature is useless; it’s useless for the vast majority of GT players. Or tell me; do you plan on using this? And if you do, will you really be able to use it? Answer with the truth.

Not everyone cares about shaving off tenths of seconds you know. Some of us play the game for actual fun and because of our passion for cars.

    2. GTlondoner

Sorry zeeto, but I think you misunderstand what this “data logger” is
it’s not to dissect your lap times in GT
it’s to bring your real life lap times into the game as a video reply,
With the edition of a $28,000 car (that you can only buy in Japan)+ $900 for the device
and it will only work on 3 tracks in Japan at the moment.

    3. biftizmo

zeeto ..use it love it…works for me…now the real world gets to use it to.

    4. HuskyGT

That won’t happen. And if it does, it’s not something that will happen in the next five to ten years. You can’t really convince a manufacturer when there is such a small niche that will make use of this feature.

There are very few people who race in real life that give any serious attention to a game, and serious gamers most likely don’t even have a car or ever raced one in real life. This feature is useless and hopefully PD realizes it soon.

What matters is the game, in terms of content and value; not what happens outside of it or features that add nothing to it or that only a few privileged ones can make use of. That’s something PD has clearly forgotten.

I’m afraid its already happened to you and been happening for at least five years…there are millions of professionals racers out there that will open an eye to this tech..not to mention the millions of amateur racers who will love it…some of them may not even be gamer’s..ha ha..
and Mercedes are designing cars for you for free..or have you no vision.

So for this update to be of any use you need to have a Toyota 86/BRZ Race car, buy a 900$ data logger, live in Japan… yep I think my copy of GT6 will stay on the shelf for a bit longer…

I think I’ll stop playing this game until they do something like 2.0 on GT5, these updates are completely useless.

    1. HuskyGT

I also did like a month ago. Just kept logging into the game for the bonus. But the I realized that doing that was for nothing.

I for one am excited or this. I’ve been missing the data logger from GT5. It’s actually a key feature I use to set up my cars and see where I am losing times on my laps. Data logging is something that real race teams use. Michael Krumm, who races in JGTC has a book “driving on the edge” which has a chapter that goes into it extensively. Anyone serious about racing should check it out.

I mean, I guess this could be a good thing. Maybe this will make PD add more tracks or perhaps I’m just being way too optimistic.

This quite honestly seems like the most useless addition to a game, ever.

Sure, this is great for racing teams, but for the everyday player, it’s really, really, reaaalllyyy useless. There better be some epic stuff in 1.06 to make up for this.

    1. austindeckerGT5

Totally agree yo. They need to give us the Course Maker for this game to stay ‘Alive’ if you know what I mean.

    2. nascarfan1400

      This.
To even be eligible you must:
      -Live in Japan
      -Own a Gazoo Racing Toyota
-Have access to the three tracks.
      -drop $900 on the unit.

      Ugh.

    3. WonkyFonk

Agreed. This nonsense is one of many reasons why I haven’t bothered buying this game. “Hey, check this out”…”What is it?”…”It’s a pen”…”Ok, but it doesn’t work”…”It does work, but only in space”

    4. Steph290

Its continuing mission…to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life, and new civilizations….to bodly go where no man has gone before.

      Ah, if only…
