Special GT6 Seasonal Event Celebrates Daytona 24 Hours

audi-r8-daytona

A special Seasonal Event has been made available in Gran Turismo 6, celebrating the 24 Hours of Daytona taking place at the actual circuit this weekend. Of course, the Seasonal Event will be much shorter at only 24 minutes in length.

Although this isn’t the first time a real-world race event has been mirrored with a Seasonal Event, it is the first time the spotlight has been placed on the game’s Daytona Circuit. As always, stop by our GT6 Seasonal Events forum for more analysis and discussion.

For those of you itching for more lengthy virtual endurance racing at the famous Floridian track, keep an eye out next weekend for GTPlanet’s own 24 Hours of Daytona – the first event in the GTPlanet 2015 Endurance Series. We’ll be live-streaming the entire race via our YouTube channel next Saturday, January 31st, and if last year’s endurance races were any indication, it’s going to be a fun event. I hope you’ll be able to join us!

Really wish Sony would add some Daytona Prototype cars and a few newer IMSA/Tudor Cars To the Game tired of using older cars for high performance game racing and then going to a live IMSA event here in Detroit and seeing Cars that should be on the game I love the BMWs and Audis on GT6 but how about some 2014 0r 15 LMP1s and GTs?

  2. Johnny1996

This event is a nice way to pass the time until I can watch the real Rolex 24 after coverage that I can actually watch due to coverage limits I have resumes.

  3. starbutt33

Really cool Polyphony is catching on to what we want. Wish we had an actual 24hr like in gt5. Is was zen to jus zone out n do lap after lap. And in the one player on gt6 there is no tire wear. Really jus couldnt mentally digest that one. Really sucks. But i quess theres only so much room on the game maybe. Who knows. Thanks for the 24hr daytona

  4. infamousphil

Nice way to celebrate another 24hr race. Just sad they REFUSE and DENY us the ability to setup our own rooms for “12” and “24” hour race online. They all won’t allow us to create our own tracks as they did in 5. What are they trying to say?

    1. infamousphil

correction… They also won’t allow us to create our own tracks as they did in 5.

I think they may be confusing being exclusionary with being… exclusionary?

    2. eran0004

They “won’t allow” you to create the tracks because the track maker isn’t finished. Just like Ford “won’t allow” you to drive the 2020 Ford Focus, because it hasn’t been developed yet.

  5. RHODRIEWILLIAMS

This is so cool to see GT6 and real racing coming closer together. A few races at Daytona before the main race starts sounds great to me :)

  6. Racemachine

Would be cool if they had the different classes and you can choose which one to do and do them all, with like 30+ cars on track.

    1. infamousphil

I know what you mean. But there are more than 3 different classes in the race. You got groupC, LMPs from ’99 and after ’01 and GT1. Take your pick and resist the urg to upgrade the engines and turbos.

Too bad you got until mid-February to enjoy. Have fun.

BTW, … 30+ cars? Where’d that number come from? I’ve seen Daytona24s with over 70 cars starting. Don’t short yourself ;)

    2. Racemachine

infamousphil, I know I pulled 30 out of you know where? I was going to say like 60+ cars but it’s PD so I held back a lot, but that would be amazing going through all that traffic.

    3. Johnnypenso

Only place you’re going to see grids like that is on PC. Next-gen consoles don’t have that kind of power, unless you severely downgrade the eye candy which ain’t gonna happen.

  7. Akiras Mantis

I just beat this event with the Pescarolo Judd car. I saved the replay and watched it. I noticed the CPU uses different tires. RH, RM, RS. When I finished the race, the 2nd place car was RIGHT BEHIND me. I rewind the replay and watched his tire wear. The never go to ZERO. I’m not complaining, just wanted you guys to know what you’re up against. This was hard for me

    1. infamousphil

DONE! It was a hella challenge.

’06 Audi R8 and ’03 Bentley tuned to same hp and pp ratings. Looked into buying the ’10 Peugot but the cost isn’t justified. Saving for the Ferrari 312.

RH tyres for both cars lasted 5laps and used 15units of fuel per lap. 50units of fuel added per pit stop. Dry track for the whole race so RH tyres were used for the duration. The Audi produced best laps in the 1:31s, 1:33s from the Peugot.

No engine or turbo upgrades added but TC and ABS were necessary for big torque management and 210mph approachs into the bus stop. Multiple restarts were necessary due to idiotic IA ramming and stupid stewardship.

I am satisfied with the results. Now I need to put the controller down so my thumbs can heal… trimmed my nails too short?

    1. Johnnypenso

SRF allows you to go beyond the programmed physics limits of the car, like sort of an invisible hand keeping your back end in check, allowing you far more slip angle than you’d normally get through the physics engine. With it on there’s no way for you to know if you are driving within the limits of the natural physics, unless you do something outrageous with the car where you’d normally crash or spin, but the SRF saves you.

  8. A_Higher_Place

So where are the GT cars and the more recent LMPS?

Makes sense to at lease split it so there’s 8 of each on the track…no?

    1. infamousphil

Yeah but PD demands that we acknowledge that they have no “common” sense. Maybe if we learned Japanese there would be no translational issues? I’m done trying to understand what they’re doing.

  9. FS7

What a stupid & unrealistic way of “celebrating” a real life race.
Catch-up rolling start, no qualifying, no damage, SRF forced on.

Why is it so difficult for PD to take things that are already in the game and make those things available in all game modes (standing starts, mechanical damage, etc). In that way those of us who like proper races could set them up in arcade mode.

    1. Scheer

Can’t argue with that. SRF is an insult to those of us that have stuck with GT6 for over a year and standing starts and damage (which could easily be implemented) would make races so much more interesting. I’ve been playing Grid Autosport and qualifying, damage and aggressive AI make for vastly superior racing. Shame that the physics and dynamics fall so far behind GT. I can’t believe that PD does not have the will or ability to fix this during the life cycle of GT6. At this stage they could add another suite of offline races that feature all elements of GT or at least make it so we get some credit for the arcade races we make for ourselves. Bring on Spec II.

    2. Johnnypenso

I don’t believe the PS3 is capable of handling standing starts with 16 premium cars without massive stuttering and drops in framerates. This occurs even on far more powerful PC’s. The combination of rendering 16 cars on screen + smoke + tire marks + physics would make the game looks horrible with standing starts. Think 10-15 fps. It would be a stuttering mess and I don’t think PD believes that’s a good comprimise. Others would disagree, but ultimately it’s a tradeoff between eye candy and game design.

    3. infamousphil

EXACTLY Scheer! Online events and rooms already handle standing starts well enough for me. PD has produced any “excellence” in a long while. Except for the current TrialMountain500. Best GT6 event… so far. Waiting for a 600.

    4. Johnnypenso

16 online is not the same as 16 offline. Online your PS3 is doing only your physics. Offline it has to do the physics and control of 16 different cars + display all 16 at times. Different story. And I don’t think the trade off is a few fps. We’ve already seen in independent testing that just having two or three cars on screen with a lot of activity can drop the fps into the 20’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if 16 cars on the screen offline dropped it into the single digits. As I said, even far more powerful pc’s have this issue and the outrage against PD if they released the game with standing starts and single digit frame rates would be horrific. I’m pretty critical of a lot of things PD does, but only things they have a real choice in. In this I can understand why they chose no standing starts. It’s a comprimise for better graphical quality. Hopefully they don’t overdo it on the PS4 and end up in the same boat.

    5. infamousphil

As I said; ‘… well enough for me’.

I don’t disagree at all with what you’re saying, JohnnyP. The PS3, as well as, any other system, will have it’s limitations. So will the PS4, PS1000, PSx, …

If the game producers weren’t pushing the limits, they wouldn’t be doing their jobs… in this genre anyway.

I’ve got a few full room replays and all my event races saved. Of course they’re not perfect. Not even close but… well enough for me ;)

OMT, it helps to have a room full of gamers with excellent hardware and provider services. I am wireless, unfortunately, so I don’t contribute to this cause currently.

    6. FS7

I’ve heard the whole smoke/tire/premium/physics argument before, still I find it very hard to believe the PS3 can’t handle standing starts.

F1 games have standing starts, 22 cars on track, mechanical damage, fuel/tire wear, and dynamic weather at every track.
Shift 2 has standing starts with 16 cars on track & mechanical damage.
Grid Autosport has standing starts with 16 cars on track & mechanical damage.
In GT5 one could set up a custom one-make race with any premium car he wanted, it had standing starts & only 8 cars on track, but it had mechanical damage & fuel/tire wear. GT5 also had arcade races with 16 cars & normal rolling starts, not this catch-up crap we have in GT6, it also had mechanical damage & fuel/tire wear.
In GT6 there are the Red Bull events which have standing starts & 12 cars on track.

Maybe PD could turn off smoke/tire mark effects for arcade races, maybe set arcade races to run at 720p/30fps. If there’s no way GT6 can have standing starts with 16 cars on track then maybe PD could gives the option to have 16 cars & normal rolling starts like we had in GT5’s arcade races + the option to enable mechanical damage & fuel/tire wear.
That would be way better than the crap arcade races we have now.

    7. Johnnypenso

I believe PD uses a lot more polygons in their cars than any of those games and they also have higher resolution in game – 1440 x 1080. Makes a huge difference.

  10. leeislee

People want a 24 hour race in GT6? Have none of you got anything better to do? Go outside and get some fresh air.

    1. rono_thomas

Why do you assume participants don’t do other ‘things’ after all there are more than one day in a year.

    2. Scheer

The air’s a bit too fresh for me right now. My cars’s covered in ice and the roads are covered in salt. What better time to retire to the man-cave and brush up on a few circuits
in anticipation of a sunny track day?

    3. ttfn

Some of us need other things to do like a 24hr race….. We take breaks from other things in life so YES WE DO WANT A 24HR RACE IN GT6, IF YOU DON’T GO PLAY NEED FOR SPEED OR SOMETHING ELSE……

  11. Croatian_STIG

Wondering why this can’t be a full 24-hours long race event? Remember how you could save the game when going into the pits in GT5? That option is sadly not in GT6 (yet?).

  12. Blood*Specter

Just for kicks, what value would you enter for time passing at an hour per minute rate?
I want to configure some 24h races on my own, but have them run about 40 minutes.
If I found the value needed for 24, then I can figure it out from there.

    1. rono_thomas

Time progression for a 24hour race in 40 mins needs to be 64.

24 hours condensed into a 2 hour race – time progression is 12.

    2. Aussie_HSV

Yes, it’s a direct ratio for minutes real time to minutes race time.
A setting of ‘1’ means 1 minute real time is 1 minute race time.
So a setting of ’60’ means 1 minute real time is 1 hour race time.
Therefore a 24 hour race ran over 1 hour real time is a setting of 24.

Agreed with rono that 24 hours racing compressed into 2 hours is a setting of 12.
But compressed into 40 minutes would be a setting of 36.

  13. beseiden

I’m wondering how can one win (or finish) this races with the game pad, I’ve always “drove” with my wheel, but because some changes in life, i now only have the pad. It’s almost impossible to control the cars and it’s a shame because i find these events quite interesting. Does anyone have and advice for me in this matter? I know it’s off-topic, but the event it self it’s, imo, worth completing and i have no skill with my fingers, lolololol

    1. Scheer

I haven’t used a pad since GT3. Tried DriveClub with a pad and it was OK. Out of curiosity I then tried GT6 with a pad and spent more time on grass and gravel than on tarmac. It’s hard to go back. Maybe find some top pad TTers in the forums for advice or do all you can to get a wheel – it’s worth it. :)

    2. Scheer

Oh, using right stick for throttle and brake is a big improvement over the buttons. Much better control of wheelspin.

    3. beseiden

Thanks for the advice. I tried the chaparral with the right stick to control the gas and brakes, but I understand that my biggest problem it’s steering… I think I have to find a way to get a new wheel. My respect to all that are competitive with the pad. Guess this race it’s out of my reach with these conditions. Good racing everyone :)

    4. z71L28

Use left stick for steering. Right2 for gas, left2 for brake and triangle for up shift. Square for down shift. Thats what I use works well for me. Dont use directional buttuns for steering!

    5. SnakeOfBacon

I use the right stick for the accelerator, but I don’t like having to pull back down for braking, so L2 is still my brake. R1 and R2 for gears.

  14. Scheer

This is a big step in the right direction. Sure it could have been a bit longer, but a least it’s a seasonal that’s making more use of features that are already in the game. GT should reflect the motorsport calendar as much as possible. Personally, I was amazed that PD updated the sculpture at Goodwood then forgot to add any events! Ben Collins vs GT player Focus run, Jann’s Nismo GTR run (I drive more like Chris Hoy), Aston and Nissan VGTs would have been great, also a Nurburgring 24 race in Yamauchi-san’s GTR would have connected us to his exploits (ramming penalties included!) and a Le Mans weekend would be cool. I’m hoping with the FIA deal this will change as it makes watching events so much better when you can step into a racer’s virtual shoes.

  15. BrunetPaquet

This is the kind of event that makes me cringe… Getting rammed by the AI and being penalized for their imprudent driving is not something I enjoy.

It’s really too bad… I really want to do this one but I’ll have to pass.

You might wonder why, y’see, it’s the kind of event where I can’t hold my calm and where I’d explode in rage.

No, I don’t tend to rage often or too much in racing games, but Gran Turismo’s methods have quite the knack for causing this to me.

Massive props to whoever won or will win this race. It’s too bad there’s no difficulty slider that allows an entry-level of this event, I would run it as much as I could even if it gave only 10,000 credits for lowered difficulty.

    1. Lambob

We are here, Live! bringing you the latest in this celebratory event… (teams are all packing up to go home already)…

excuse me, but, why is everyone leaving?

racecar driver: ma’am , our cars were tuned to turn left.

  16. Kavey

Nice idea but shame this is so short, I mean 24 mins is hardly endurance. 2.4 hours or even a hard mode with 240 mins would have been much more challenging and closer to ‘endurance’.

  17. warpkez

If licensing permits, why could this not be added to the Endurance class of races rather than make it a seasonal?

  18. Kevster823

I got 2nd place with the Bentley Speed 8, and that didn’t go well for me and then I got 1st place with the Mazda 787B ’91, and it went out well and good. Made a few mistakes but I manage to finish both race.

  19. Heathenpride

Brilliant! Just what the teams need for the endurance series!

And seriously folks, the live streaming for these races IS AWESOME. Full commentary, live ‘ticker’ on screen and the feel of watching a real race – get on it and support it!

  20. GT5 Level 41

Got smoked in an Audi R10 TDI Stealth. 15th place 12,000 cr. Started on RH and went to RM after 11 minute left mark. Zero on rears for last lap. AI rammed me off the course several times giving me the penalty. Looking forward to hearing how to do this race right. Just wasted 26 minutes.

    1. Jayson619

      I used a 787B Stealth ver.

All default but TCS and ABS both at 5. Forgot which lap I retret to the pits. Keep it steady and finish. Woohoooo~!!!! Gonna try again with other cars.
