Yamauchi Discusses GT PSP / GT5 Interaction

It’s not unreasonably pessimistic to say that just because a car is in Gran Turismo PSP, it may not be in Gran Turismo 5. It’s been debated in our forums at length, and we won’t have a definitive answer until we can directly compare the car list from each game. However, things look a bit brighter when you consider this recent interview with Kazunori Yamauchi by French gaming site JVN. When asked about the “interactivity” between GT PSP and GT5, he responds:
“If [the user] unlocks a car in Gran Turismo PSP, it will also be available in Gran Turismo 5.”
Unless something has been seriously lost in translation, it can be inferred that all 800 cars in GT PSP must also be in GT5. Since we already know that NASCARs will not be in the mobile version of the game, GT5’s grand total number must be even larger.
Yamauchi also expanded on the car sharing and exchange features – something new that GT PSP is bringing to the series. Google’s automated translation is a bit awkward, but to summarize: when you trade a car to someone else, it’s gone, and some cars you won’t be able to trade at all (hmmm, what could they be…?). Finally, when asked point blank if GT PSP delayed GT5, Yamauchi answered bluntly:
“I will not contradict you, because all versions of GT are developed within the studio Polyphony Digital. If a person works on an item, it necessarily prevents him from doing anything else. So yes, there is some truth in what you say.”
That admission will ruffle feathers with the impatient among us, but using GT PSP to sell hardware of the new PSP Go is undoubtedly something Sony has planned for quite some time.

I don’t like that !! The game is really taking long , I mean gt5 not gt mobile (I don’t care about gt mobile ) , but at least I will be able to play forza 3 until GT5 arrives (whenever that is ) .

I dont think that it necessarily means that the 800 or so will be in GT5 (at least straight away), more along the lines of, if its already in GT5 and you unlock it with GTM than it will be available to play in GT5.
I dont mean to sound pessimestic, however I think 800+ is a stretch on the imagination for release day… although I think I might slightly wee myslef if it were true.

Pretty sure I’ll be playing Forza 6 by the time this comes out.
I wonder if Sony is putting any pressure on PD at this point about a game that was a “launch title”. I will buy a PS3 when this comes out…I would have had a PS3 for 2 years now if this was a launch title…

I’m just speculating that the exclusive cars/colors which are only available via the pre-order promotion may be among the ones which cannot be traded.

It irks the snot out of me when people that don’t know any better say it. Could you please fix this, “that [b]NASCARs[/b] will not be in the mobile version”? NASCAR is a sanctioning body, not a type of car. “NASCAR cars” will be fine kind sir ;) I’d expect you to know better than that :p

this is great! 800+ cars and counting!!!!! this internet and harddrive on the ps3 is very good, because if GT5 released. and a couple of days later there will be a awesome car coming out…8 weeks later GT5 owners can buy it!!!:):) this is what if missed with gran turismo series.

Using GT to sell a Portable gaming console by Sony, were have I heard that line before *wink wink*, maybe it will come right up to release and will be delayed another 4 years!
Besides I think this thing about all cars in the PSP version are in GT5 is a total lie, there is no way PD have fully rendered all those GT4 cars for the PS3. The PSP version was easy to do because it was a GT4 port with a few more cars.
GT5 will not have all those cars because history tells us that the first GT on any new console always have less cars than the previous one (GT3) because of the time it takes to render so many cars. Remember there are 2 GT’s per console generation and when working with a new system the first title is always lacking.
There is way too much info on the PSP GT at the moment, I really dont see why its so interesting. If anything it got boring because its been just a tease for so many years its going to be such an anti climax.

I suppose translation could have been lost whereby what he meant was if a car is in gt5 and also gtpsp and is unlocked on psp, then it becomes unlocked on gt5… as in if it’s not in gt5 it doesn’t matter but if it’s in both you get an unlock…
But then again that’s only a maybe…

If any of you have taken a look at those GT Mobile car models, you would see that they look remarkably like the Prologue models, perhaps downscaled in polys just a scouche. And I mean just a scouche. I’m not hesitant to say that GT Mobile may have fewer cars than GT5, and won’t have more.

Just Release GT5 already polyphony. You said so yourself Kaz that P.D can go on refining the games quality in every regard till infinity comes around. You’re a self proclaimed perfectionist that’s bound to find a smear of some type on your perennial masterpiece no matter how long you spend on it. We’re literally going gray waiting for GT5. Just make sure you implement standing starts instead of that rolling start garbage & add some damage here & there ( like you said ) & we’re ready to roll. I’m with you “meagainstyou” GT on PSP a waste of time. Who ever said patience is a virtue knows exactly what they can do with that.

codemasters bowed to the pressure as well, it was a fixed release date for all platforms for the new F1 game, all of a sudden PSP comes along and everyone drops all their current development and makes the game for this first, it is SUICIDE, sales of the PSP will be poor or at best the same as before, and people wont buy GT purely for the fact with that setup all digital buttons and sticks, it is not the real driving simulator, PD should of stood fast up to sony and said NO we are finishing GT5 off, when thats done port it down to fit the PSP

You bring up a very good point. Its a complete annoyance to be waiting for a game like GT5 only to be postponed due to a game I would naturally assume is less concerning then the “full package” only to be pushed towards buying something else I again, assume no one fancies a whole lot. No disrespect to P.D or K.Y but its been an eternity waiting for a game and I know once they announced it, prematurely mind you, in 04′ they just had to finish it. I know GT5 will be a brilliant game but I would’ve known that a year ago I suspect, if GT PSP was put on hold.
BTW, where is good old American Vector Automobiles in the GT series? Brilliant, those things proved to be.

This is really stupid. GT5 will be great, but PD is sucks in Information and Releases. PD could never do what Turn10 does in 2 Years. Come on over 4-5 years of developement nothing happened and some stupid Prologue versions nobody needs.
You are only jealous that Turn10 gives Information about their Game. We saw many gameplayvideos and screens from FM3. There is no single Screenshot of GT5 after 4-5 years and if GT5 looks like its Prologue version, it will really go under. 60 f/s, but nearly no antialising.

Man…Need for Speed Shift sucks…The graphics are nice…the sound is also nice…but the gameplay??..damn..that really sucks..the cars move so damn unrealistic..

Forza won’t be a true competitor until it’s on a next gen system. Everybody in the gaming universe knows the CrapBox PlzFixMe is really Xbox 1.5 and was rushed to market JUST to beat SONY. Not to put a better system out there. Because of their pure greed, you’ll be buying a new M$ product in a couple of years. While the Trey is just starting to hit it’s stride, your CrapBox PlzFixMe is gasping for breath because it can’t get any better.
Just like Nintendo, they’ll have to put a new system out there to compete with the beast that the PS3 is.
A $5 ribeye steak is not the same quality of a $20 ribeye steak. There is a reason why one is cheap. No matter how many $5 steaks you have, none will be as good as a $20 steak. I personaly think that forza 3 will be a good game to play till gt5 comes out. But that’s only if you already have the box. And i have been waiting for 6 years now to get my gt5 and right now i can say i no about 5k ppl who wont buy gt5 cause of the constant delays and lack of info. And that number keeps going up and pd dont see this so this lil suspense they have going is hurting them more than anytimin else. Likei already pre ordered and payed for both f3 and gt5
