Sony’s next PlayStation State of Play broadcast lands this Thursday, September 3. The main show starts at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST / 10pm JST, with a second “State of Play Japan” presentation following immediately afterwards.
There’s no mention of Gran Turismo anywhere in the announcement, but fans of the series might still want to tune in.
The first broadcast covers “updates and announcements” from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners. State of Play Japan, hosted once again by voice actor Yuki Kaji, then shifts focus to studios in Japan and across Asia, with new gameplay and announcements.
Polyphony Digital is, of course, a Japanese studio. That doesn’t guarantee anything, but it does mean there are two separate windows on Thursday in which GT7 news could surface.
Almost a year ago on September 24, 2025, Kazunori Yamauchi appeared during the September State of Play to announce the Spec III update for Gran Turismo 7.
That 35-second trailer gave us the first look at Yas Marina and Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, a glimpse of the returning Data Logger, and four of the eight promised new cars. The update itself arrived in December, alongside the game’s first paid DLC in the Power Pack.
September’s State of Play has traditionally been where Sony sets up its holiday season, and a major December GT7 update is exactly the kind of thing that gets slotted into it.

Back in April, an invitation-only PlayStation survey sent to GT7 players asked directly about a “Spec 4” update, with open-ended questions about what players would and wouldn’t want to see in one. The same survey also gauged interest in another Power Pack-style paid expansion.
A second survey followed in July, this time digging deeper into single-player progression and how players feel about the monthly update cadence. That one avoided the “Spec 4” name entirely and stuck to “potential future updates”.
To be clear, a survey question is not a roadmap. Sony has asked players about plenty of things that never materialized. But two detailed surveys in three months, one of which name-checks a Spec 4 by title, suggests someone is at least thinking about where GT7 goes next. And it’s now been more than four years since launch, with the game still pulling over two million monthly players.
Having said all that, there is no public confirmation that Gran Turismo will feature on Thursday. With Update 1.71 landing last month carrying a substantial physics overhaul and Fanatec FullForce support, there’s nothing stopping the studio from announcing its next big move through its own channels whenever it likes.
As always, we’ll have full coverage here on GTPlanet if anything surfaces.
