As has become apparent over the past couple of days, September is proving to be quite a busy month for Assetto Corsa. While there’s plenty of potential under the hood — as many a PC player would attest — there’s no overlooking the rocky start for the racer after making its way to consoles late last month.
With the issues and other improvements being addressed in this month’s upcoming patch, in addition to the free Maserati Levante, there has been one aspect of the game that interested parties have been looking forward to across the board: Porsche.
Originally announced earlier this year in June, the expansion was expected to release later this month, but now it would appear the circumstances have changed. Over the past several days Kunos’ Licensing Project Manager Marco Massarutto has teased the contents of the upcoming expansion, possibly revealing that the first of the three packs is now to be expected in October.
“Less than one year ago, we lived one of the most surreal days at Kunos Studios, in Vallelunga. Some people from Porsche paid us a visit, to have a closed-doors meeting that has gone forward for two days.
Two months later, a new billboard appeared on Vallelunga track, showing the new Porsche 911 Carrera S, presented a week earlier at Estoril circuit in an official event, where Porsche brought some simulators powered for the first time by Assetto Corsa.
In October 2016, after one year, both cars will be performed in our game, being reproduced as never done before. On PC, PS4, XB1.”
With everything likely going on behind the scenes to bring parity to console and PC users, has the first pack been pushed back to October? While nothing has been made official one way or the other, it will be interesting to see how this plays out with only 11 days remaining until month’s end.

At this point, not a big deal, just get it right. I would like to have the Red Pack to “tide me over” though.
Better to fix UI/AI and video issues before launching DLC. And the building of on-line lobbys so that gamers can create public or private rooms for the type and amount of racing they want to do should have been done yesterday (figure of speech)
I can wait for Porsche until those issues are addressed. Because they effect the overall enjoyment of the game. Sure I like ripping around in time trials. But being able to participate in the events and races with a balanced AI and mapping buttons on your wheel, or controller need to be sorted. That said, I think given time Kunos will produce an excellent product for it’s customers.
I think the pack is ready. It’s more to do with wrapping up console issues before milking what would be a highly publicise multi-platform launch for this Porsche pack.
People need to stop whining about every little thing because “XYZ” delayed the PC version bla bla bla. I said it once before that the success of the console version will further ensure the development of the game, content and the series.
Be happy that it’s coming to the game and you’ll soon be able to enjoy it.
Frankly, I can’t see how they can model all these Porsches so quickly with such a small team anyway. I don’t know how they to it. If PD could model cars this quickly they’d have 1000 premium cars for GTS. Another month won’t make any difference to me, especially when I never imagined Porsche would be coming to the game to begin with.
That’s easy, 90% of 911s are pretty much identical, so all they had to do was take a user created model of a VW Beetle, then squash / stretch a few bits, instant 911. Then just squash it a bit more for every few years development, every now and then change the headlights, job done hehe
And yes, I’m (mostly) joking :)
Well we dont really know how much modellers they are using, from those that ive asked a car can take anywhere between a week to a month if you are full time doing it so seven modellers and you are done in a month, several weeks of QA to get the models being very accurate. We dont know when they started doing the models or when the contract was even signed for example there was a large grace period in Q1 where not many cars came out, im sure a lot of models could have been done during that time.
I’m more looking at it in the light of the sum total of modelling they’ve been able to do since v1.0, including the imminent Porsche release. It seems a prodigious output relative to the size of their team.
The model quality is also lower than what’s seen in GTS. I assume that’s why these models are done quicker. Polyphony – for better or worse – also subscribes to the idea of doing everything by hand.
Different priorities.
Based on the fact that they have managed to produce 2 nowhere-near-perfect games in the last 6 years, I would have to confess that I don’t agree with PD’s priorities.
Also, and I know how cynical and rather awful this sounds, if ‘doing things by hand’ gets us ‘standard’ models and PD’s infamous lack of sound quality, it sure cannot be the right way to go…
Modelling is not a problem for most cars since they’ve surely got the CAD files from Porsche. Making the physics takes time.
Kunos first met with Porsche a year ago about this license. So they have been working on these 20+ cars for a long time.
I never knew it was even supposed to come out in October let alone september. As long as Kunos gets out the next update, and hopefully lets us get some DLC, even if only the Preorder DLC which is already on the disc, I’ll be happy for now. They should take their time on the Porsche DLC. It’s a big DLC and it’s very important to get right. Not that they’ve ever not got DLC right, but no rush.
I’m really, really looking forward to it. I’m surprised we have to wait till October, because many Porsches have already been “reproduced” by Kunos for their Porsche Simulator. I actually saw that live in motion when i visited the WEC at the Nürburgring. The Simulator had various Porsche models including the 919 Hybrid. People got the chance to drive those around the Nürburgring GP track. It didn’t say Assetto Corsa, but there were “Kunos Simulazioni” ads at the Ring and it had the same HUD like AC.
Being able to drive Porsche with these kind of physics is just like a dream come true for a Porsche fan like me.
Yeah thats ACPRO which is the professional tier version of assetto corsa. It seems to be pretty great according to the teams that have used it but not much is known about it.
Not a fan of paying a lot more for something that is often not finished, out of impulse. I was willing to do that for AC, but i’m gonna give it a nice 1y to mature, get patched, get bigger, and maybe get a full, final version like i did with pCars GotY for the same price or less.
Thats Exactly how i FEEL..I will prob pick up the final version with all DLC used and on sale..current state is a no buy at full price specially with just 12 tracks, I demand more..
You will be missing out guys.
Even right now, it’s amazing fun to play.
The reason why i didn’t buy it yet. get it used with the porsche expansion
@harlemg27 in agreement with you, I have pcars to hold me over until i find the complete edition used and on sale..people need to demand more for their money..Queens all day
Why should PC players be penalisationed what happens on the consoles, I would understand if everything would be synced. But as I see it Kunoz is milking console players by not offering the same cars/dlc that is available to the PC players, so they are basically two different products so why should the base(PC) community “suffer” from what is happening on the consoles.
Because they’re only one studio. They’ve been working on the PC version for 3 years now, yet you’re gonna complain about waiting a month because they need to work on the console versions? Seriously? How do you think it works for other games that are on even more platforms?
But I want it nooooooow :P
Screw console gamers :P hehehe :D
I bought a new system just for the Porsche pack ;/
@Pillo-san think about it this way, you little japanese puppet, they will use money from console sales, to boost development of game for PC. How about that?
Not really bothered by this at all, as I am much more interested in the upcoming patch than any DLC.
Agree, i have put this game on hold until the patch is out, patch first, DLC later :).
@IngRobNy: Yeah, because it’s so efficient to let modelers do nothing while programmers fix bugs…
@NLxAROSA: Where is it stated that the modelers aren’t accomplishing anything?
