Assetto Corsa’s ‘The Red Pack’ Features Maserati 250F, Releases July 14th

Assetto Corsa Maserati 250F The Red Pack
Kunos teases an in-game look at Jaun Manuel Fangio’s Maserati 250F.

Assetto Corsa has been on a hot streak as of late, and with the recent bombshell that a certain Stuttgart manufacturer is due later this fall, it doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon. Console racers on the look-out for the acclaimed title still have a little wait until it lands on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Never content with ‘what is’, the team at Kunos have begun trickling information out on the next content expansion that’s coming to the game next month, and it looks to go by the name of The Red Pack.

Named after Italy’s national racing color, the pack will no doubt pay tribute to Italian machinery, and by the looks of things the star of the pack will be the V12-powered Maserati 250F driven by five-time F1 champion Juan Manuel Fangio. Also revealed to be in the pack is another V12 powerhouse, the 750 horsepower Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV.

Is it hot in here, or is it just me? Lamborghini’s Aventador SV will be charging head-first to Assetto Corsa.

The Red Pack isn’t only going to be about putting some of Italy’s best in the spotlight. It’s also set to include something of an outcast, but one that still plays up to the title of next month’s pack: the Red Bull Ring, home of the Formula One Austrian Grand Prix. While nothing has been confirmed yet, it could be worth presuming that a previously confirmed inclusion, Ferrari’s F138 F1 car, will also make way in the pack.

Kunos have shared a very interesting video of Maria Teresa De Filippis, the first woman to race in Formula 1 on behalf of Maserati in the 250F, specifically quoting her words “The greatest kilometers are all ahead of you!”

The Red Pack is coming to Assetto Corsa on July 14th for the PC platform, and should be included in the upcoming console release. Stay tuned for more on the upcoming pack over the coming days, and remember to stop by our Assetto Corsa sub-forum for more discussion and in-depth analysis.

Thanks to this bit of news, I get to post one of my favorite bits of race car trivia. Stirling Moss didn’t have any superstitious fear of Italian machinery (in fact he drove a 250F for at least one season). What he did have against Italian machinery was the reversal of the brake and throttle. The throttle/gas pedal was the middle pedal in Italian racing cars of the 50’s. The brake was on the right. Moss was always afraid he would hit the accelerator in an emergency in an Italian car and did once, according to the memoir of his business manager, Ken Gregory of BRP fame.

So, maybe try remapping your pedals when driving the maser 250 to see how it goes.

    Cheers,
    @F1Jester

Love this game. Late last year I was getting bored with the repetition of the weekly (which lazyly became bi weekly) events (Tsukuba etc..) on GT and was getting mighty jealous of the XBONE (and the Aussie V8s featured)… as I own an LG27 I wasn’t keen on upgrading everything or waiting around for PD to get their house under order….. Instead I got a new PC and have embraced Assetto Corsa…..

OMG – it is unbelievable – and the MODS….. I mean well done for PD for finally bringing in Course creator but seriously…… you cant compare that to driving on Transfagarasan – Romania (honestly… there are so many mods out there that the roster of cars and tracks puts GT, Forza and Project Cars to shame…. for those wondering what their next move should be….. embrace the PC…. highly recommend it.

Looking forward to getting some new vehicles to race.

Hopefully this Red Pack will live up to the hype. I mean, we only know about 2 of the cars. Granted, the Aventador SV is so highly anticipated by me, I would pay full DLC price just for that one vehicle!! :-)

Also, I really hope that Maserati has a vehicle or two to race against – I don’t know if any of our Classic Lotus open-wheel cars are from the same era/category. Those cars are always terrifying to drive. I don’t know how they did it back in the day. You needed to have balls of steel to push those cars to the limit on a race track.

Dirt rally, and many other.. AC, then, battlefield 1, then gt sport, and many other in between… this year is worst for wallet and best for brains ;)

What an absolutely wonderful trailer. I would love to see Miss De Filippis behind the wheel of a simulator and sawing through the gears while driving that wonderful 250F.

Agreed, but sadly she passed away in January 2016.

This game looks much more my cup of tea than GTS so I look forward to getting a copy. The 250F V12 incidentally was not a success on the track – the Works Drivers normally chose to drive the six cylinder version which was a massive success being one of the sweetest handling cars of its era and selling in relatively large numbers to privateers.

Kunos seriously need to calm the hell down. show a teaser for the A1 S1 or something like that, this hypetrain is getting a bit too fast

I hope the AAA guys see this because kunos seem to be fantastic at showing their goods
