Buy a Sandwich, Win an Early Copy of Gran Turismo 5

That’s one headline I never thought I’d write, but it’s true! Sony has just announced a special promotion (for U.S. residents only) with SUBWAY, and they’re giving away copies of Gran Turismo 5 before it’s November 2 release date. There’s no details on exactly how early they’ll be shipping out the prizes, but it’s exciting to know the game will be floating out in the wild before you can find it on store shelves.

There are no specific numbers on exactly how many copies of GT5 are up for grabs here, but there should be quite a few – a total of 7,625 games (divided among GT5, ModNation Racers, and LittleBigPlanet 2) will be given away in total. Additionally, 50 copies of the GT5 Collector’s Edition will also be awarded. Learn more about how to participate and read all the official rules here on SUBWAY’s website.

Let’s hope a few GTPlanet members win something here – if it happens to be you, please get in touch with me as soon as you can. Thanks to Alex and Randy for the tip!

I won an early copy of Little Big Planet 2 via Twitter. I’ve gotten close to getting GT5 but no luck yet. I’ve had Subway everyday since last week but I’ll persevere. GT5 Early?! You kidding me? Best Prize Ever! I’ll post when I get it!

    1. FamilyForce5

I won a copy of Little Big Planet 2 as well from my cup. I already found someone to buy it so I’ll still get a free copy of GT5!!!! :) It says don’t expect to receive your free game for 8 to 10 weeks. So if you win I don’t think you’ll get it before Nov. 2.

The comments section of this news blog is of much higher quality since people have to actually sign in to comment.

This is ridiculous.. yet shouldn’t suprise me from Sony/PD’s madcap and unpredictable marketing of GT5..

will be very interesting if its several weeks before public release!

    the GT5 saga continues…

  4. exstense

Propably my english isn’t good enough (not native language). But on the website it says: “subject to verification”
So it could not be true. And this is a maeketing tric

    1. FoolKiller

“Subject to verification” means that if they suspect you of cheating they can request to see your copy of the code before they will give you the prize. It would be illegal to have a contest without any actual prizes in the US, as it is false advertising.

    2. Drogahnus

Age verification as well. You have to be 13+. That’s another thing they’ll need proof of should you win.

  5. tvensky

but “what if” I dont want a sandwich, and dont live in US! :)) crazy US fast food nation… it seems like GT is screwing US citizens “Eat more, get fat, play more!” :)))) lol.. dont reply negative.. it was a joke!

  6. Magic Ayrton

Hehe, The standard sandwiches have nothing in them LOL

Here in Britain, subway sandwiches are stale, so we’re actually lucky not to have this!!

Wouldn’t mind an early copy of GT5 though, November 2nd in UK perhaps??

    1. SubSandWhichTime

Ya in the USA subway is like the fast food of subs, its not very good and they usually have burnouts that work there, i wonder if i can sell them a bag of you know what for a stack of empty cups with codes on them lol

  7. Luis

Makes you wonder if they’ll have another GT Academy eh.

Hey Ben by the way are you quite interested in getting the Signature Edition? Since we’re just getting the Standard Edition for free maybe we could ask Sony NZ if they’re alright with any of us finalists paying the extra $130 NZ to get the Signature one.

  8. NBH

I love GT and I love sandwiches but I’m in the UK so I will just have to eat my lunch and wait for GT5. The promotion does seem a bit weird, I can understand buying a wheel or something and having a chance to win GT5 but a sandwich, weird!?

  9. Ben

Maybe a bit off topic, but having been a finalist in the New Zealand GT Academy, I recently received an email from Sony NZ saying that we will be the first people in NZ to receive a free copy of GT5 before release date, she said she’ll ship them out as soon as they come into the country. Does anyone have any rough idea about how long games (particularly GT games) arrive in a country before they go on shelves?

    1. Bernd

I’d expect a week or two for larger countries, so it should be much shorter for NZ with it’s population just around 4.3 million

so far, I’ve entered both the drink and chip codes. For those interested, you win prizes via a mini-game, where you distribute 6 jalapenos over a 3×6 grid. you win a prize when you match 2 icons.
you start on level 1 prizes, and for each code you put in, you move up to another level.
32 oz. cup codes are unique, sunchip bag codes can be entered more than once (I saw 10 bags with the same code)
anyone have any luck winning anything yet? my girlfriend and I both didn’t win all 6 times.

  11. Bryan

Okay so i just finished my subway dinner. Basically the drinks have a code on it and when you enter it online you play a random memory game. It’s a grid of card and you place six jalepenos on top of them. After you select them all, they all flip over and reveal different prizes. If you match two you win that item. It had so many different prizes that it is pure random luck. The more codes you enter the different level prize you are eligible for. The game is in the level 2 prize.

    Good luck to all!

  12. SubSandWhichTime

I didn’t read the info, but to win, do you get a choice of games early or is it just random, in other words you might win but win LBP2 early and not GT5?

  13. ralph89

I guess you’ll be a fat ass before you play GT5. Even though you got the first copy for GT5, you will not be in shape to race with the pros. :)) But hey you got the first copy, right? I’ll pass on this one, I’m working hard on P90X to be a “fat dude playing GT5” ttitle.

  14. Zonda_Guy

Thats good news since I work @ gamestop and right next door to me is a Subway! Looks like I’m buying a 32 oz. and some Sun Chips tomorrow!

  15. ElieTheBear

there will be a bunch of lucky fat americans racing online together … while the rest of the world will be youtube spectators of this yalapeno races grrr im angry !!! whoever got the game before … should sell it millions of dolars on ebay

  16. Bryan

Man, if I can eat Taco Bell for 3 months to win an xbox, eating healthy at Subway to win Gran Turismo 5 and a 3D tv is going to be awesome.

And if you’re wondering I didn’t win the xbox.
I always did light the place up though after the burrito supreme combo. ;)

  17. scooter1265

Well, Subway is now my place for breakfast!
    And a quick pop/soda/soft drink!
Or a bag of overpriced Sun Chips!

    I love you Sony!

Thanks for mentioning me in the post, Jordan.

    1. Jordan

You can buy a breakfast sandwich, a drink, or a bag of SunChips. Free codes are also available by mail, email, Twitter, etc.

  18. J.B.

I’m buying stock in Subway tonight….

LOL….I’m actually pissed…This means the game should he ready earlier than the Nov 2nd release and there will be a time we are waiting for no reason other than they want to release it on that date….

    1. P37Mac

J.B, You got to remember that it’s always gonna be easier to deliver a few copies of GT5 to a sandwich chain than a few hundred thousand copies to North America… It’s the logistics that we are waiting for, not a significant date. Anyway my moneys going to be on half these Subway games finding their way straight onto Ebay. GTPlanet users are going to have more chance bidding their way to GT5 than eating their way to it! The question is how high are you willing to go?

    1. Bernd

I bet Jordan will get his free copy with an autograph on it from the hands of Kazunori-san himself – and it is well deserved

  19. Rasmus

    Best. GTPlanet Story. Ever. :D

This is hilarious. So all of you American GTPlanet members, GO BUY SANDWICHES! NOW! GO GO GO!

    1. Bernd

That`s right. This is 100% proof no further delay is gonna surprise us. The game should be ready by now !
I think, all the machines are running to produce the copies
      needed for Nov 2nd

    1. mantis

What exactly are Royal Mail gonna think when they find out there is a greasy sandwich in one of the letters XD

    2. Rotard12a

@Riad Sure thing. Give me your address and I’ll email it to you. Now, if I can just get this in here… *jams sandwich into disc drive* …maybe if I can find a 5.5″ floppy…

    1. mantis

God it is I checked. We Brits get barely anything regarding GT5 ¬¬. Ah well we will get it sooner or later…

    1. Rotard12a

      @mantis

Subway actually has quite a selection of healthy sandwiches :) Just take it easy on the ranch haha

That said, I’m heading out to get myself an oven-roasted chicken $5 foot-long! Wish me luck!

    2. Drogahnus

*Drool* Oven-roasted is sooo good. My favorite. I’m gunna stop by and get one today, hopefully win something?!

    1. mantis

Oh god that would be so shameful, on the front of the box in bold red writing:

*SUBWAY edition; Came free with a sandwich*

    2. ICEMAN_ZIDANE

1.This are really nice news because maybe some people couldn’t pre order gt5 becasue they don’t have a mastercard or anything like this , now they can buy a sandwich and then they can get the game :D really PD is awesome
I never heard something like this from a other game company:D
      i love it

But I hate it because why it is only in america ? it is really unfair :( it is the same thing with Collectors Edition , the SCEA version get a 1:43 car but we in europe not :(
