They may not have returned to form just yet, but in this year’s title you’ll be able to make McLaren-Honda a title contender.

The 2016 season of Formula One has been a memorable one thus far, and this past weekend’s Monaco GP only helped to intensify the chaos that’s made for quite an entertaining string of races. Capitalizing on the current state of the season, and continuing to deliver the game as early into the season, Codemasters have officially announced F1 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms and is due later this summer.

In addition to bringing all of the cars, tracks and drivers of the current season to the virtual world, this year’s entry returns the focus to the game’s career mode with “the most immersive career mode [we’ve] ever featured.”  The new campaign will span 10 seasons and will go the full length to recreate the exciting motorsport, both on and off the track.

The expansive career will introduce an all-new car upgrade system fully integrated into the game’s practice development programme, mirroring the real-world tests carried out by the various F1 teams. It will also see the re-introduction the Safety Car, in addition to the new Virtual Safety Car.

The new career mode will also allow players to select an avatar that will represent them throughout their career, as well as choosing a personalized driver number and helmet. As in the previous games you will be able to choose from any of the competing teams, all with different goals and expectations, however, with the upgrade system in place you can take one of the back marker teams and turn them into fierce title contenders.

Hospitality areas have also been recreated, furthering the immersion of the career mode, and will serve as your game hub where you’ll be able to check on the various forms of progress throughout the game. While it hasn’t been discussed at-length, the game will also feature a time of day editor that will surely spice things up.

The Safety Car returns in the form of the AMG GT, which replaces the SLS.

Now comes the truly interesting news. For the first time in the game’s history, Codemasters will be inviting a select number of players – 300 to be exact – across the three platforms to participate in a closed-beta for the upcoming title. The beta will be limited to just three tracks: Melbourne GP Circuit, Red Bull Ring and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and will be available through time trial.

If chosen, you will be granted access to a private forum to share feedback and help to proof the game before its upcoming release. If you’re interested, and I know you are, look below:

There are plenty of good reasons to get a PS4, PCars is pretty good, Assetto Corsa in August (hopefully) …..and some games you can’t play with a wheel.

“The new career mode will also allow players to select an avatar that will represent them throughout their career. ”

Female drivers in career mode this time? Probably not.
F1 Championship Edition (PS3) had it though,
and that was ten years ago already.
How hard can it be, Codemasters.
