And he's 83 points from 30th place
Well then he's done.

Its realistically impossible for Wise to get to 30th unless people in front of him stay home. On the other hand, if AJ can keep this momentum through the chase, he very well might get past the first elimination of the chase.
#Dinger2014Champ

Top 35 is the cutoff for a guarenteed spot in a race.
Well then I'm not 100% crazy.

Junior and JJ had great runs through the adversity they faced. I think Kahne will be replaced by Elliot when that time comes
After seeing Gordon's performance today, I'm convinced that this is how Chase will get a cup ride. Bye Bye Kahne after 2015

All we need is a fan vote for the Chase and Wise will be covered

"Dale Junior wins homestead! AND DANICA PATRICK WINS THE 2014 NASCAR SPRINT MOTOR CUP SPEED SERIES!!! Now to baseball before even interviewing anyone. So long from ESPN. We won't see you next year" (Thank Celestia Above.)

Austin Dillon would be the ultimate upset/super-troll imaginable. Just picture him pushing the 88 car out of his way coming out of turn 4 at Homestead to put the #3 in victory lane.

Nah, Kyle Larson as Ultimate Dark Horse/troll champ pick. Because rookie and also the dude beat the holy loving life out of a camping World truck

I want someone who didn't win a race and/or a Roush driver to win the title to troll everyone. That or an AJ Allmendinger upset lol

Too soon for him to go to Cup.
Plan: 2015: 2nd full Nationwide season, partial cup schedule. (Daytona 500 dark horse maybe?)
2016 & beyond: Kasey gets shown the door and Chase Elliot is announced as the driver of the #5 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet!

I think this here is why there should be a Dirt race in the cup, and also explains why Kyle Larson is a badass.

But, even the average irrational fan thinks that Larson can drive. The average irrational fan thinks Dillon was handed the seat in the legendary black #3 car undeservedly. Having him beat Junior for the title would cause the biggest uproar, no doubt.

Imagine, Dale Earnhardt Jr about to win his first Cup title, only to get taken out by some spoiled rookie driving Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s car. Skip Bayless would seem calm, rational, and eloquent in comparison to the legion of irate Junior fans.

While I don't like Dillon too much, not much at all really, if he somehow pulled off the Championship, that would be awesome.

Imagine AJ though.... He'd probably be cheering so hard he'd give himself a hernia

as a Junior fan (well, basically all HMS with possible exception of Kahne) I'd be offended, except the twitter-dwelling, Junior-can-do-no-wrong types would totally flip their stuff to my inevitable amusement

I don't think anyone is unlucky as Steve Park was, but this is with all due respect to Park, and excludes his vicious crash that took him out of action.

Ah, I forgot about him, yes. He is the most unlucky for sure. It was like Dale Sr at the 500... Every week.. Lol

I like Kasey probably 2nd most of the Hendrick drivers, but his performance hasn't been stellar.

Also, Kyle Busch is in a huge slump right now

It would be a crying shame if Jeff didn't win the championship this year. He deserves it the most, and he's certainly earned it.

How do you figure this? Yeah Juniors best year since 2003 and 2004 and Steve's last year with the team and HMS mostly and has been a bit more consistent than Jeff and yet somehow Jeff deserves it more? I don't understand this, I'd say anyone with three wins and Harvick is quite deserving.

When was the last time Jeff had a year like this?

As a fan of his, I stated my opinion. Doesn't mean you have to agree with it.

Of course we all know he should have more championships anyway, if it wasn't for the stupid chase format.

Oh so it's bias. And no one said I had to agree with it, but from a realistic stand point no he doesn't deserve it over the other 4 or 5 drivers. The same rhetoric could be said by any fan of any of those other drivers. I'm trying to be impartial I had no idea that you were such a major Jeff fan or at least planning on being partial in your post and thus responded accordingly. It's hard to tell who you like in NASCAR when it seems like each passing year you write it off and claim you're not going to follow the subsequent year.

I now see why.

2007, and prior to that, 2004. Those were the last two seasons where he was this good, and I think without the chase he would have been champion for both of those seasons.

The problem with those standing as said before is that teams adjust to the tempo of the sport. JJ has always done enough to get him into the running and then him and his team pour it on where it counts. Why anyone thinks that they wouldn't do this in an old school format which he nearly won in 2003 is beyond me.

As most of us have always said on this thread, at the end of the day the team is going to play the game the way it's laid out, no more no less. You could be Kyle Busch and go into the chase with 6 or more wins and then end up near the bottom in 10th when the season is over. These guys aren't dumb and that's why the 48 team wins so many of them.

Plenty of teams have had VERY good regular seasons, only to see their leads evaporate in the Chase. Chad Knaus puts all of his R&D into the final 10 races, knowing that those are the important ones. In the past, the 48 team has been known to experiment with odd setups and strategies late in regular seasons, just to see how certain things might help in the Chase. Had the old points structure been in place, this almost certainly wouldn't have happened.

Who remembered that Greg Biffle was leading the points after Richmond just TWO years ago? He even had two wins.

Kyle Busch was leading the points, and had the most wins in 2011, after 26 races. Tony Stewart had no wins and barely made the Chase, in 9th place.

In 2010, Harvick had a 228 point lead on 2nd place Kyle Busch. Both drivers had three wins. Gordon, in 3rd, was 230 back, with 0 wins.

In 2008, Kyle Busch was up by 207 on 2nd place Carl Edwards, and 302 points up on 3rd place Jimmie Johnson. Kyle had 8 wins in the first 26 races. Carl had 6 wins. EVERYONE ELSE had 12 wins.

How much revisionist history could we write?

Greg Biffle should be the sport's only ever three-series champion?

Harvick is a former would-be Cup champion?

Kyle is a two-time former would-be Cup champion?

College football*

I know it's probably a relatively big thing in the USA, but for an outsider, it looks even dumber that the highest NASCAR series coverage would be halted by college sports. :P
