But, even the average irrational fan thinks that Larson can drive. The average irrational fan thinks Dillon was handed the seat in the legendary black #3 car undeservedly. Having him beat Junior for the title would cause the biggest uproar, no doubt.
Imagine, Dale Earnhardt Jr about to win his first Cup title, only to get taken out by some spoiled rookie driving Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s car. Skip Bayless would seem calm, rational, and eloquent in comparison to the legion of irate Junior fans.

While I don't like Dillon too much, not much at all really, if he somehow pulled off the Championship, that would be awesome.

How do you figure this? Yeah Juniors best year since 2003 and 2004 and Steve's last year with the team and HMS mostly and has been a bit more consistent than Jeff and yet somehow Jeff deserves it more? I don't understand this, I'd say anyone with three wins and Harvick is quite deserving.

As a fan of his, I stated my opinion. Doesn't mean you have to agree with it.
Of course we all know he should have more championships anyway, if it wasn't for the stupid chase format.

Oh so it's bias. And no one said I had to agree with it, but from a realistic stand point no he doesn't deserve it over the other 4 or 5 drivers. The same rhetoric could be said by any fan of any of those other drivers. I'm trying to be impartial I had no idea that you were such a major Jeff fan or at least planning on being partial in your post and thus responded accordingly. It's hard to tell who you like in NASCAR when it seems like each passing year you write it off and claim you're not going to follow the subsequent year.
I now see why.

2007, and prior to that, 2004. Those were the last two seasons where he was this good, and I think without the chase he would have been champion for both of those seasons.

The problem with those standing as said before is that teams adjust to the tempo of the sport. JJ has always done enough to get him into the running and then him and his team pour it on where it counts. Why anyone thinks that they wouldn't do this in an old school format which he nearly won in 2003 is beyond me.
As most of us have always said on this thread, at the end of the day the team is going to play the game the way it's laid out, no more no less. You could be Kyle Busch and go into the chase with 6 or more wins and then end up near the bottom in 10th when the season is over. These guys aren't dumb and that's why the 48 team wins so many of them.

Plenty of teams have had VERY good regular seasons, only to see their leads evaporate in the Chase. Chad Knaus puts all of his R&D into the final 10 races, knowing that those are the important ones. In the past, the 48 team has been known to experiment with odd setups and strategies late in regular seasons, just to see how certain things might help in the Chase. Had the old points structure been in place, this almost certainly wouldn't have happened.
Who remembered that Greg Biffle was leading the points after Richmond just TWO years ago? He even had two wins.
Kyle Busch was leading the points, and had the most wins in 2011, after 26 races. Tony Stewart had no wins and barely made the Chase, in 9th place.
In 2010, Harvick had a 228 point lead on 2nd place Kyle Busch. Both drivers had three wins. Gordon, in 3rd, was 230 back, with 0 wins.
In 2008, Kyle Busch was up by 207 on 2nd place Carl Edwards, and 302 points up on 3rd place Jimmie Johnson. Kyle had 8 wins in the first 26 races. Carl had 6 wins. EVERYONE ELSE had 12 wins.
How much revisionist history could we write?
Greg Biffle should be the sport's only ever three-series champion?
Harvick is a former would-be Cup champion?
Kyle is a two-time former would-be Cup champion?

I know it's probably a relatively big thing in the USA, but for an outsider, it looks even dumber that the highest NASCAR series coverage would be halted by college sports.
