it was a question.... I asked because i didnt know, which is what a forum is meant to be for...

I wasn't actually insulting you or anything, try to calm down so mods don't have to edit your post. If I was really insulting you I'd have got a warning.

Sorry, I didn't know that from "sarcasm/" or what not. The only reason i mentioned the trucks is because I was listening to John Hindenhaugh or however you spell the radio Le Mans speaker, and he said look at this it does this and this, and I believe he said that. It was the fact you brought up an Audi reference, making it to me appear that I'm protecting Flying Lizard, which I'm not. I'm just saying that the penalty should've been given substantial backing before release, which I thought based on previous instances they would mark the level 5 due to aggressive behavior towards the Flying Lizard. But apparently aggressive behavior and meaningless driving for instances prior to any foul given means nothing according to IMSA...

That's my thought, that the stuff before was used, and then they acted like it didn't mean anything which is why I'm infuriated. I felt that Winkelhock put everything in it and he kept getting in first but the Ferrari would ram him off...

End of discussion...

Never said you were supporting one over the other, and my posts reflect that. Perhaps in the incident just like me you figured one driver over the other was in the right or wrong, doesn't mean either of us support these drivers. I don't follow anything super close other than WEC P1 and more so GTE/GTLM.

The Audi truck ref was a joke and a coincidence it had nothing to do with this past race, more of the notion that people would actually care to broadcast people leaving a race venue. Paint drying would be on par with trucks leaving a paddock/garage area.

Okay, so it was nothing. That's all I needed and the mod issue was only a warning. I understand it now and would like to leave it that way. And did you see mister dogs post in guns?

Already there.

Now i must say i am a long time Le-Mans fan (just as a viewer, not knowing all the specs) and started watching ALMS races on youtube, and enjoyed it allot. For me it was the best racing series. I had watched short the Rolex 24 a few times but never watched the series. So in the beginning of last year i decided to start watching the Grand-Am races and was plesantly surprised how fun it was. In fact, i found it to be probably more exiting then ALMS. Grand-Am seemed to have bigger fields, except the gtx class. And i like the DP's, i think they look good, and the GT racing was really good too.

I never understood the DP hate though. It's like saying GT racing is lame becourse they still use steel brakes.

For me the new TUDOR USSC is a positive thing. Sexy cars and close racing and i must say that i am very happy with the results of Daytona. It was a very nice race to watch, with very good coverage for us here in Norway. Motors TV showed the Fox footage during US daytime and then live stream on Imsa at night. We only had a fraction of the TV commercials the US viewers had (very glad about that, how do you guys not go nuts about all those breaks?)
I was surprised to see that the GTLM cars where faster then the PC's. But you know, i am fine with that. Becourse who says that a PC has to be faster then a GT? Just becourse that is what we are are used to, it doesn't mean it is the law.
I think it actualy was fun to see the GTLM's semi fight with the PC's trough the infield and then get back on the oval.

I look forward to Sebring! Testing in February, anyone else exited?

If I compare the Daytona race with the Dubai race, concerning coverage and commentary then you might think that Daytona was some sort of local race. I don't call uninformed TV guys and sloppy camera work good coverage. Not to even mention the radioguys.

And the yellow, one hour before the end, talk about creating a race, as if there wasn't anything interesting going on on the track already.

I am much more excited for Sebring, but sad because Audi can't partake in P1 no more... However, I feel as if there is hat for DP because they haven't changed, at all, while other classes evolve all the time. It's basis is the Corvette, which they think is the best car in the world. They need to open up and see change, because I'm really getting tired of a ten year old car..

Not seeing the same car...

As for why people hate it, it's the internet, they hate everything, even if it's the thing they've been calling for elsewhere.

Regardless of their beauty or lack of it ( ... eyes of the beholder and all that ... ), Swagger, the Corvette DP is not a Corvette, AFAIK (but if someone corrects me I'll gladly admit it) it's only a tubular structure with look-a-Vette body kits placed over it.

are you serious? Like, no.... Im not talking about looks, but mechanical aspects. An R18 can house the V10 the R15 had if it wanted to, but the R15 and the R18 have two different bodies... Even though they are vastly the same, they are very different..

Looks like Aston is re-considering running TUSC.. I understand their frustration, but crying about not doing well and threatening to go home is something a 5 year old does on a junior soft ball team when they get struck out, not a highly respected, professional racing and road car brand. I didn't see Corvette and SRT/Viper threatening to never go back to Le Mans when the BOP wasn't in their favor..

So your comparing it with a completely different class that serves a completely different purpose? The whole point of the DP is to be a "cheap" form of sports car racing, you don't get that by making teams buy/build completely new cars every few years like the ACO does.

Plus, the problem with DP's has never been that the chassis is old, it's that they are/were slow and ugly, they've made progress on both fronts over the years.

Also not sure what your getting at with the engine thing, lots of cars can fit different engines, it means diddly squat.

Yeah a bit of an overreaction from Aston. Honestly it was only one race and it was on a circuit that is not like the others in characteristics. I mean if BOP was really an issue, then the LMP2 teams would've cried hard about the speed advantage the DP's had. Well they did, but they bit their tongue and went with it. In Sebring I expect the DP crowd to be on the backfoot.

Plus Aston Martin are a professional bunch. They can sort out any speed issues with development work down the line.

That's what I'll never understand with BoP. What incentive should Aston have to work for better performance if BoP, like socialism, cuts anyone that raises above the rest, even if on merit. I think they only need to complain a bit louder and they'll be BoPed back into contention. It's a joke.

I mean, I understood that the ACO, when Diesels were allowed in, tried to make regs that would make them competitive against petrols. It backfired because Audi was TOO competent, and then the ACO engaged reverse and tweaked the rules to give the petrols a chance. Pescarolo will tell you they never did that right (and probably didn't want to).

But anyway this was made with the intention of making two alternative engineering solutions compete against each other. In a way, it is similar to the DP/LMP2 situation, and I understand that IMSA has a hard job trying to make them compete in equal terms, something very difficult to achieve. And this happened even in the "BoP? NEVER!" Formula One world, when in the late seventies Turbos were allowed to compete with naturally aspirated engines. The FISA (now FIA) set the "equivalency" rules (3.0L for normal engines, 1.5L for Turbo engines).

But in a series with a strict rulebook that allows anyone to build a car to race it, the best car should WIN and not be Boped to give the worst car a chance. My two cents ...

It's at least partially cost-containment. If writing a check automatically gives better performance, then the team with the biggest checkbook wins. That's great for the team with the biggest checkbook, but it's not particularly inspiring for anybody else. There's still room for Aston to do development that won't be BOPed away from them, though... they can try to make their car more robust and more efficient, both of which have benefits aside from pure fast-lap-time performance.

I figured to see Kevin Buckler's name instead of John Gaw's.
Reminds me of when Buckler threatened to leave a couple of years ago, 2010 I think.

It's also something Jaguar does, and yeah I agree with you 110% on the last line. It's a double standard from Aston, the BOP at Le Mans supported them, but when the BOP isn't nearly as unequal at Daytona as Le Mans they cry. I recall the disadvantaged Corvette still placing their car 4th even though they had no tire testing and BOP nerfed them, Ferrari also finished in the top 5 after being nerfed.

Isn't there suppose to be a replay of the race available 24 hours after each race?

If so where do we find it?
Nothing at the TSCC home page or IMSA TV.

You know what....Aston Martin has hardly any time at Daytona period, Porsche has had years of experience to get things right along with all sorts of help across the board. If they want to call it quits that easy, then they aren't serious about their program as other teams. The R8 had last year to figure out any bugs for this year on most circuits, the Vipers know they were at a learning curve along with Corvette but you didn't hear anyone complaining. Every track is going to have certain cars or drivers are showing who is fast, Daytona pretty much is all about raw speed period.

Overall I think the first race went out pretty darn well for most folks and I was happy to see such a mix of cars!

Still looks silly when the Aston and Porsche were at each other's throats in the WEC, and here they got blown away.
I'm guessing they'd've been less pissed if they didn't get shafted on fuel flow last year too.

The Ferrari's were run by Risi and Krohn, 2 sub-average teams. (Although Risi was stacked with drivers). So they weren't in contention anyway. That Aston was a FACTORY backed car. They had as much money as BMW or Porsche had in their camp, and just as good of drivers (Aside from Dalla-Lana) as both of them and Viper.

The Corvette was a toss-up, and then Viper, Porsche, and BMW got BoP breaks.

Wait. So Porsche and BMW are equal to Aston in terms of personnel, experience, and money; but the Aston, which didn't get the breaks the other two did didn't do as well?

Color me surprised. Aston Martin are a bunch of whiney t****. Go back to England-land.

Doesn't Risi receive factory support from Ferrari? Much like the Lizards receive support from Porsche but weren't a full factory team back in the ALMS days.

I thought that was AF Corse. Last year they didn't do too hot...

I think the Flying lizards were essentially the North American works supported team (much like that Matmus Proton Team was in Europe) with some Porsche engineers (and not near the amount of support the Weisach based factory team at Le Mans last year)and the same goes for Risi with Ferrari.

Aston Martin Racing’s future participation in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is unclear, following a disappointing outing in last weekend’s season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The factory British squad’s No. 97 Aston Martin Vantage V8 of Darren Turner, Stefan Muecke, Pedro Lamy, Richie Stanaway and Paul Dalla Lana finished eighth in the GT Le Mans class, delayed by power steering issues, but also lacked in performance compared to the competition in the ACO-spec category.

The car’s best lap of 1:45.877 was nearly one second slower than the class-winning Porsche’s quickest time in the race, causing reasons for concern for AMR managing director John Gaw.

“It appeared at Daytona that although last year we could fight for the World Championship in the WEC, there would need to be an adjustment of parameters to allow us to fight in the TUDOR Championship,” Gaw told Sportscar365.

“From what we saw, the Aston was slower on the track, slower to refuel and had to pit earlier in a stint due to the TUDOR-specific regulations.

“This is not the case in the WEC, so we know the performance is in the car. It’s possible for us to fight for the win but it needs the cooperation of the organizers.”

While running to ACO specifications, cars in the GTLM class received a number of pre-Rolex 24 Balance of Performance adjustments.

No notable changes were given to the GTE-spec Aston, while both the Porsche 911 RSR and Ferrari 458 Italia received larger air restrictors and the Viper was handed a 30 kg weight break.

Gaw said the No. 97 Vantage, which remained in the U.S. since the FIA WEC race at Circuit of The Americas last September, is being sent back to the U.K. for scheduled maintenance, with no decision having been made on further U.S. outings.

AMR had been considering a program around the four-round Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup, but Gaw said they quickly need clarity on the BoP before committing to any additional TUDOR Championship races.

“We think it’s a strong championship and the racing is great and we know it’s difficult to get the BoP right the first time,” Gaw said. “We do trust the organizers to get it sorted.”

That looks like a perfectly legitimate complaint to me. :grumpy:
