I'm going to my second ever GP this year. Anyone else making the trip to Silverstone for the British GP?
I'll be at Becketts.![]()
Does anyone how much some of the cheapest tickets cost? I live about an hour away from Silverstone and would really like to go there.

Although, it's really expensive (IMO) for what it is, you can get better racing for half the price.
In the grandstand or the general area? I had a general admission ticket there a few years ago and I sat just at the entrance in to Becketts, there was no overtaking action but I never got bored of watching the cars fly in to the first right hander.
Had 3 day general admission last year and was at becketts, gone for Stowe in a grandstand this year - not going to miss having to get up horrendously early to get a decent spot on the sunday (the worst part of general admission)! Arriving on the Thursday then camping at silverstone's own camp site for the whole weekend until Monday. Apparently camping facilities will be much improved this year. Also hoping that arriving earlier means we're camped closer to the circuit, as it was a bit of a trek last year. Ordered my flag pole for the campsite today![]()
PeterJBAs long as the campsite toilets are surrounded by stone walls, instead of plastic ones, them I'm good.![]()
There was a skip near us which people seemed to be doing their business behind.
Not just number ones either...
It wasn't pleasant!
MatskiMonkF1, it's all about the glamour!
ArdiusI'll be in the new stands at Club. I already planned on walking the track on Friday because I've heard stand tickets give you access to any stand during Friday practice and I want to watch the cars take Copse, Maggotts, Becketts and blast down the Hangar straight. Usually when I go to Oulton I do a bit of a walk around the track and watch several races from different points, while you do miss a bit of action, I like to get a feel for the circuit and how each driver/car is reacting to it. It feels like I've got my value for money that way, I can watch it on TV if I want to see all the action, the benefit of being at the circuit is that you can see with your own eyes the different braking points etc. I also love to wander the paddock at Oulton, sadly this isn't so easy at a GP.
It will be interesting to see what the re-profiled Abbey is like and how it will work as the new turn 1.
PeterJBIt going with two other friends from Thursday to Monday. Tis gonna be EPIC. People keep saying I should take earplugs, but if I have to be deafened it should either be by Beethoven or by 24 V8s!
MatskiMonkRace day tickets from £131 upwards
Weekend tickets from £152 upwards
Friday tickets from £56 upwards
My money would go on the friday only, all the benefits, the least of the inconveniences. You get to experience the sound of an F1 car, which IMO is the only reason to go, and it means you can go home and enjoy all the action on TV, with sensibly priced quality food and drink.. rather than wedged in on uncomforable seats, with no clue whats going on, eating manky £5 burgers and warm £4 lager...

As a side note, if all is the same as last year you are quite ok to take in your own alcohol and sandwiches. Bag full of pre-mixed vodka red bulls (or at least asda's own make red bull) made for a day with incredibly little monetary outlay.
I think this is a bit overly negative really, there is more to it than simply experiencing the sound.
And find me a major sports event (or any event) where you get fancy food for cheap...I've never been to a concert, football match, race meeting or whatever where the food and drink has been especially nice unless its VIP hospitality. Quite simply I always try to avoid having to buy things at these events and nearly always take a sandwich. Eventually you do sometimes give in when it comes to ice cream and alcohol though.
I have gone to Oulton Park all these years simply because there is so much to see and do, you just have to have the interest to find it. The sound of motorsport is only one element that makes it so great to go and watch, there are so many things you don't appreciate simply watching on TV. Even at the GP at Silverstone where paddock access is not really available, there should be still a lot to see.
As for toilets, etc, well, I've heard bad things with regards to Silverstone so I hope that is improved.
Ah, I see what you mean now. ...
The same applies here, I go to Oulton for different reasons to going to the GP.
Generally speaking though, smaller, cheaper, less popular events are always going to be a far better experience and value for money.
