Thanks everyone for the help, I really appreciate it. Now UseClothShading is set to 1, but let me know if the chrome effect is gone or not (on my side everything is ok). I've also updated the 458 config and we have a new entry! Gran Turismo Config for the 812 Superfast!

EDIT: I've almost forgot something. In order to make my config work with the 812, you must overwrite the loaded config in assettocorsa\extension\config\cars\loaded with the ks_ferrari_812_superfast.ini I've uploaded. (some entries has been removed, always make a backup). Remember to copy the three ao maps in every skin folder, you can find them in the extension folder. 😎
The only problem with your config is that you treat all of the paint as metallic, which isnt the case.
It need a per-skin ext-config for paint.
I do have it for the 458 and 488 GTB if you ever want it

You're right, I use the metallic script for every carpaint because I'm not so good at paint shading. That's why I decided to stick with one config, it's good enough to make a body paint look more or less acceptable. If you send me the right carpaint script, I'll add it in the next update (thanks) :D

I'm searching for a fix in Enna Pergusa 2003 (Rainmaker v1.61), as the chicanes are so high in some corners and cars literrally fly. Anyone has it? From my view, it is the only thing left to make the track perfect.

Still absolutely loving this app, so thanks once again to @AlexMail.
One tiny detail: I know there are 20 different sounds triggered when flying marbles hit your car (and when driving over a lot of them too?) but all of the samples sound a little 'harsh' to me, more like hard gravel hitting the car rather than softer rubber. I always feel it should be more of a dull thump than a 'ping'. I think one of more of the Need For Speed Shift games had a really convincing little 'thud' for flying marbles hitting bodywork. It's probably a major pain in the ass to add an alternative soundbank, and it's only my opinion on a minor detail, but thought it worth feeding back nevertheless.
Thanks again, the app is an absolutely essential enhancement to AC. Ilja really should fold it into CSP.
Loving the app AlexMail. Thanks for sharing it with us all.

One thing I'm wondering, which has nothing to do with the app itself...

In replays, there's a noticeable smearing of the marbles as the camera moves past them, probably because of the depth of the black levels. Is this an artifact of temporal anti-aliasing and is there a way to minimise it?

Here is a preview of the pack (cars and skins adapted by Legion) to recreate the 1958 Indy 500—featured in these two videos.

Rodger Ward

Tony Bettenhuasen

Pat O'Connor

Jimmy Bryan

AJ Foyt

The main goal is the "Champions Career Mode: A.J. Foyt"; I think I'll be able to get that done tomorrow.
For now, here is how the skins turned out (nothing too spectacular, but most people will recognize the drivers).

I couldn't find many detailed photos for the recreation. I hope to run my 1958 Indy 500 race tomorrow or Monday (driving as A.J. Foyt).

Interesting that you mention the deep black of the marbles, as it can make them appear a little removed from the environment, and lit differently to everything else. It looks like they currently are an absolute pure black, which is almost impossible to reproduce in the real world (rubber tyres/marbles are not this dark to start with anyway), and even then they'd appear as a very dark grey due to environmental lighting.

@AlexMail if you are planning any updates could you perhaps test a very dark grey for the marbles instead of black and see how it looks by comparison?
I sampled the hex code of the existing marbles (above) in PS and it does appear to be pure black (#000000). Maybe something like #252525 (nero, charcoal - RGB 37,37,37 or CMYK: C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:85) might blend into the environment better (image below)?

The VRC one is modelled on the LMP01 Evo.
True, VRC made the Evo, but it's just a direct evolution of the original LMP01 and shares the exact same DNA. Since there are no other high-quality Panoz mods for Assetto Corsa, VRC's Evo is the closest you can get to what you guys were talking about!

Another idea for achieving absolute perfection in the marbles app: their bouncing behavior... Right now, when stepped by a car, the marbles jump and then sticks to the ground, without rebounding. Perhaps it would be more realistic if the marbles bounced a couple of times before still...

(Yes, I know... it's easy to ask for things without knowing a **** about modding and the difficulty involved in coding this kind of spellcasting...😰)

Marbles App

A LUA app that generates trackside marbles dynamically. I've posted this on my patreon page. It is a free app, and it always will be.

Update v2 - Link Updated in the same free Patreon Post

  • Material-based code implementation: .kn5 model is no longer required.
  • UI Configuration: Adjust brightness and pebble size (larger/smaller) directly from the interface.
  • Smoothness Toggle: Enable higher polygon counts via UI for smoother pebbles (reduces total pebble amount).
  • Enhanced Physics: Added new animations to allow pebble rebounding.

@Masscot @Perico Lospa I'm tagging you two since you provided the most feedback. For some reason, the actual color and brightness of the marble weren't rendering correctly. I tweaked the material to allow sunlight to cast on it.Let me know if it still doesn't blend well.

I found this skin pack the other day, and really liked the concept:
1782656620892.webp

It's a skin pack that puts every world champion since Formula One's inception, and puts them in a single car.

I'm wondering if there's other packs like this?

On a side note, I don't really think skin chat is relevant to AC modding. Should there be some kind of skin topic for this?

AAARGH!!!! again, yesterday all runs fine and smooth , and today my fps and performance graphs lines (cpu and gpu) are all over the place (instead of steady around 60%) A secret windows update perhaps? WHY???????
Anyone experiences the same?

Didn’t you not use TinyWindows?
I must admit a couple of months ago I did have the same problem. Finally the only solution was to reinstall Win11 pro completely and now everything is running fine.

BTW for all those guys who are claiming that Win11 LTSC is lean and gives you a better performance! That is placebo, it contains also a lot of garbage processes. Further some connectivity is not working, as I could not connect my Apple earbuds and I never could get my VR headset active. While back into Win11 pro, earbuds and VR headset connectivity was fluidly without any problems. The only advantage is the long life support.

Hi, I had a lot of fun during the last month to create some Nürburgring 24H skins. I tried to create each winner car since 1970 and I am in the process of bringing some smaller class cars to the N24 2026 field. https://www.24h-rennen.de/teilnehmer/#
I would like to work on some of the BMW E90 325i teams. But I did not found a base car which would be worth the time working with it. Have I missed something? Do you guys no a good BMW E90 325i race car mod? Thanx for your help.

If you like give my other N24 skins a try: https://www.overtake.gg/downloads/authors/dan-ger.3908/

Daniel

For all of you wondering, why I did not use the time for more BPR related cars..... well, I guess I am warming up after a long pause of skinning :-)

Yeah, that is an excellent customer service, indeed! 😜

Improving little by little: including the options to adjust the size, brightness, and texture of the marbles is a great addition, still with no evident impact on pc performance (at least in my case). But above all, the improved bouncing behavior is fantastic, much more natural. Thanks soooo much again!

However, after testing the app more thoroughly, I've noticed that the marbles remain floating slightly over the surface...

Screenshot_ks_lotus_3_eleven_norisring_28-5-126-18-48-39.webp

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I've tested on a couple of tracks, in case the problem was with the track itself, and I've had the same result; the marbles don't touch the ground. In the image, can be seen that, indeed, the marbles do cast shadows, but since they don't touch the ground, the effect from the driving position view is a bit odd; you can tell something isn't quite right...

(@AlexMail, I'm sorry to be a pain in the ass and give you so much work, I hope you can forgive me... 🙄)

Incredible update to an already amazing app. The bouncing marble physics are incredibly convincing and add yet another layer of immersion, and I can't believe what a difference the shading now makes to the realistic look. TBH I'm pretty amazed that I can even SEE the shading in VR on a tiny marble as I drive over it at 100 miles an hour... but I'm very happy that I can. Thanks once again Alex, this is top-tier modding.
Re the previous discussion about 'ping' vs 'thud', I was wondering whether there was an online tool to batch edit all 20 .wav samples to alter their speed and pitch to a duller thud (to save creating a whole new set from scratch). I tried a couple but didn't really get the 'thud' I was looking for, so I don't think simple speed/pitch adjustment is the answer.

Edit: @AlexMail I had a little more success after downloading Audacity. Reducing the pitch and adding some low-frequency bass gave a promising result. I've attached an edited version of your marbe(1).wav (just remove the .txt extension), so compare it to your original and see what you think. Bear in mind this was a very quick two-minute proof-of-concept experiment..!

Edit 2: wrong file was uploaded, try this one and ignore the previous one.
I tried to keep it simple for editing purposes so with this one have only increased the Bass (+17dB) and reduced the Treble (-7dB). The pitch and speed are as per the original marble (1).wav
sample.

Edit 3: I wonder if bass & treble adjustments could be added to the tuning menu, rather than editing the existing sounds and adding them as an alternative set? That would be another great personalisation option.

Only good 325i we have is this one. Which does the job as it's as close as accurate as possible.

I decided to re-shade every carpaint with the appropriate shader. Tbh you're right, a metallic car paint is out of place when the car has solid paint. The next update will be (probably) a collection of every car already released (tweaked) + a few new ones
