what a relief DLSS 5 is.
I've quit big-budget gaming outright many years ago now, and if this is the "future" we can expect, I'll be leaving entirely and sticking with what I have and spending more time doing analog, worthwhile activities.
It looks exactly like Sora and those other awful AI generated videos, has atrocious performance, and encourages untalented developers to do even less than they do now. Why optimize when DLSS and Frame Gen can just do the work for you? Image quality, motion smoothness and input latency be damned! This will be the guillotine for low-level rendering development. It is over. We (the paying customer) are screwed.
Soon "game dev" will be one guy going into a data center, pushing a bunch of prompts for an hour or two to generate pure, uncut Unreal Engine AI slop, and then returning home to his pod to eat his daily ration of cricket paste. No thank you.
Someone said above that the future in 3D rendering is DLSS5, somehow bringing "performance" increases. I'm sorry, you must be terribly uninformed about how this tech (and rendering software in general) works. It is the opposite of performance - essentially faking rasterization through expensive, power-hungry guesswork and adding mountains of data at the end of the post-processing pipeline.
It will have a tremendous negative impact on performance and input latency - and require colossal AI cores on these graphics cards to perform this task, multiple times the size of the current ones. You must be kidding yourself if you think there will be "affordable" cards that will render this at anything more than 720p and 30 FPS for the next 15+ years. And sim racing in particular, which is extremely latency-dependent, is the last genre on earth that needs this.
In actuality, the goal of all of this is to make modern games (and software in general) so un-performant, and computer components so expensive, that the every-man is forced into cloud subscriptions with draconian contractual obligations! You seriously think these data centers are just for OpenAI prompts? There's tons of fun surprising uses for them, coming soon!
And of course, you can kiss your AC Modding on these cloud PCs goodbye, as that's "unapproved usage of service hardware". You've been reported to the authorities for driving a Milano that looks like a Ferrari. Some friendly men in plain clothes are on their way to have a chat!
