I think i've settled on this, but i'd still like to get more patchiness in the grass. I've never been a fan of all green grass. At least I matched the saturation balance between the grass and trees and can increase or decrease them together now. I also fixed a normals issue with the fencing where some parts were dark and some were light.

Now i'm getting somewhere. The grass looks more realistic now with some patchiness and color variety to it. Should be able to hand this off to @mteam soon.

I am trying to make a skin for the track simply named VIR. I have no name of an author so I'm not sure who's version it is, however when I try to override textures I get this error and it will not proceed to open textures.
VIR error.webp

Can I just rename any kn5 and stick it in the track folder and see if it will open the track texture files?

Open the models.ini file and remove the entry pointing to that kn5 file.

The track is Virginia International and the author provided the option to add an oak tree that used to be there in the past going around one of the turns. In order for it to work he needed to add the entry for it in the models file in case anyone unpacked the packed oak_tree.kn5 file he provided. It's all in the track description he provided.

Awesome, thank you. The old 'NISSAN' banner on the bridge just doesn't work any longer.

X90
same model and year as the URD one, quick-and-dirty ported from a mobile game.

don't bother.

It does have my favorite feature:

I'll keep the URD one then, physics is most propably better than what Peter provide us, since most of the physics is from VR Driving...

definitely do not replace anything made by the major mod teams with 101/VR Driving. you'd be doing yourself a big disservice.

the URD Radicals were made with real-world telemetry from the Radical factory itself - both of them are officially licensed, bespoke creations.

There's a reason the SR3 is still one of the most popular sim racing cars in ranked sim racing - it's an incredible car, extremely fun to drive, with fantastic FFB. And it's free.

The SR10 is a simple evolution of that car - with more power. Not too much different to drive, which is a good thing. Fits a little bit better on FIA Grade 2 tracks and even certain Grade 1 tracks. Its big weakness is its lack of skins available (likely due to it being a pay mod) - I've had to throw numbers on the stock colors.

I haven't driven the 101/VRD car, and won't ever. One of their "hallmarks" for the past year or two is using ChatGPT for a ton of the physics work, to predictable results. To be candid, that rendition won't be in the same universe as the URDs.

DLSS5 is for chuds who want their games to all look the same. It's ****ing *****, destroys the art direction intended for the games, doesn't add anything at all. It's literally gameslop. No better than people using generative AI to make physics, create **** posters and whatnot. If that's the future of gaming... This ain't a big step forward, it's three big step backwards because it'll reward laziness over creative input.

Say what all of you will about DLSS 5 looking like ChatGPT/Google/XAI/Hailuo AI generated slop ever since its reveal months ago, but I actually see a HUGE improvement towards realism to my eyes for AC, even tho yes it will probably put an heavy strain on my 3060 12GB so I'll defenitely have to buy a 5070Ti at least in order to make good use of that unofficial DLSS 5 bridge mod for ReShade.

And yeah I'm pretty much part of the minority who sees good faith in AI in general rather than just slop which feeds upon water for data centers around the world (at least when used as a tool and not outright replacing ALL of us like Skynet). You can even ban me for this statement I made towards AI in general for all I care.

I tried it, huge improvement in graphics, in the future they will release the versions of DLSS 5, also because this is an unofficial leaked version, which will allow you to play without a huge drop in fps, I with an RTX 5070TI in a 3440x1440 resolution I went from 175 fps to 60fps and for me it is not acceptable at the moment, but I think that in the future it is worth trying again with the official versions that will be released in the future.....

Regarding the use of DLSS5 in general

All the posters on here deriding the use of it needs to be more open minded to the use of software solutions for improving visual quality/ increased performance going forward, like DLSS5

Nvidia and AMD are very close to the limit of current silicone chip capabilities, they can't keep shrinking nodes or pumping more power into graphics cards forever !

The most cost effective way to increase graphics fidelity and speed is through software not 900w- 1000w graphics cards .

The price of a 5090 in the UK is around £4000 , no way people are gonna pay that or more for a 6090 / 7090 which draws 1kw to run .

I see the logical way forward for increased graphics performance is with software like DLSS5 or something similar

Think about it

You know, this makes me wonder if @Peter Boese could ever optimize his volumetric clouds for Pure, since my GPU is a 3060 12GB and when I switched to volumetric clouds via Pure, FPS massively dropped down to around 20 or less. With old 3D clouds or skydomes I get around 30~70 depending on car and track I use if well optimized that is.

Wouldn't need DLSS and all this cow manure if it wasn't for that fact that game devs CANNOT optimize video games since they are all working on PC's that got 4 5090's 500GB of ram and the best available parts imaginable.

If they were all still making games on an 2070 Ti, with 16gb of ram these horrid DLSS crap wouldn't be needed. But no.

No one can afford to buy an new GPU or RAM because AI DATACENTERES ARE BUYING THEM IN MASS. God damn idiot. The same damn centres these DLSS features are literally built upon.

I've got exactly the same problem with my 4080. I've got a triple screen (7680x1440) First method cloud 90/135 fps with 20 to 54 cars (le mans) but 50 to 60 fps with the volumetrics clouds with the same parameters.

Yeah I agree better optimization in games would be great but why would a developer spend months optimizing a game when they can just inject DLSS5 into it ?

Also if all game could run 100+ FPS on a 2070 who's gonna buy a 5090 ? It's in Nvidia AMD interest for games to be un-optimized so people have to buy their new graphics cards.

I'm exclusively a VR user so I won't be using DLSS5 until it's less performance heavy as I need all the performance I can get to run the headset .

But the future is software advances as I see it

From a cynical old AC user 🤣

So that's the issue "why bother when x does x thing"
Why even bother making games? When ai can just generate it instead.
Why bother making textures for an game when ai can just hallucinate everything?
Why bother making audio for an game when Ai can just make it up?

Seriously why bother doing anything for video games when Ai can just do everything.

****ing pathetic future in video game we are going to experience. Lobotomized idiots wanting chatgpt to enforce what their games visual should be & not the actual creators making the assets.

DLSS would be completely useless if Devs were forced to actually optimize the games. But noooooo! DLSS can solve the issues that devs are causing cause devs have lost the ability and knowledge to optimize, or better yet they don't BOTHER optimizing cause they know schmucks will just slap on DLSS for 50 fake frames so that your medival GPU can play your game at 60FPS instead of 15fps cause the dev though that a tootbrush needs to be 1.5million tris!

I can't upgrade my ram anymore without spending half my damn rent, car, food budget on a damn plastic and metal stick. Incredible.

Another update on BR Engineering BR1 mod for AC. The model is finally in the game, most of the animations are working such as doors, low and high downforce aero kits with dive planes, functional wiper, front and rear wing, and few other small things for visuals. I couldn't make brake duct tape working, so it's hidden for now. I'll be working on two BR1 digital displays and then AER engine sound. When displays will be done, I'll post it with cockpit shaders being finished as well. HD pictures link https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCVq13View attachment 1556815
Hello! This looks amazing

Its incredible tech, whach the stuff on YT for skyrim and Last of Us, insane, problem is now devs dont need to do any level better graphics than we have now as DLSS 5, 6, 7 etc will take over that work load i would imagine.... regards AC its what it does to trees and track objects that is the real change, its crazy really that AI is doing all of that to a decade old game and a mod track with the ***** 2d cardboard trees and boxes with photos of buildings stuck on them....say waht you want about AI and many do, but its is incredible how its makes the flats look on that video..
Now the question many will be asking is, how do i install DLSS 5 on my girlfriend?

what a relief DLSS 5 is.

I've quit big-budget gaming outright many years ago now, and if this is the "future" we can expect, I'll be leaving entirely and sticking with what I have and spending more time doing analog, worthwhile activities.

It looks exactly like Sora and those other awful AI generated videos, has atrocious performance, and encourages untalented developers to do even less than they do now. Why optimize when DLSS and Frame Gen can just do the work for you? Image quality, motion smoothness and input latency be damned! This will be the guillotine for low-level rendering development. It is over. We (the paying customer) are screwed.

Soon "game dev" will be one guy going into a data center, pushing a bunch of prompts for an hour or two to generate pure, uncut Unreal Engine AI slop, and then returning home to his pod to eat his daily ration of cricket paste. No thank you.

Someone said above that the future in 3D rendering is DLSS5, somehow bringing "performance" increases. I'm sorry, you must be terribly uninformed about how this tech (and rendering software in general) works. It is the opposite of performance - essentially faking rasterization through expensive, power-hungry guesswork and adding mountains of data at the end of the post-processing pipeline.

It will have a tremendous negative impact on performance and input latency - and require colossal AI cores on these graphics cards to perform this task, multiple times the size of the current ones. You must be kidding yourself if you think there will be "affordable" cards that will render this at anything more than 720p and 30 FPS for the next 15+ years. And sim racing in particular, which is extremely latency-dependent, is the last genre on earth that needs this.

In actuality, the goal of all of this is to make modern games (and software in general) so un-performant, and computer components so expensive, that the every-man is forced into cloud subscriptions with draconian contractual obligations! You seriously think these data centers are just for OpenAI prompts? There's tons of fun surprising uses for them, coming soon!

And of course, you can kiss your AC Modding on these cloud PCs goodbye, as that's "unapproved usage of service hardware". You've been reported to the authorities for driving a Milano that looks like a Ferrari. Some friendly men in plain clothes are on their way to have a chat!
