as per usual, i had an up and down evening for my races yesterday
came into the Manufacturers race reasonably confident of a decent result, despite my terrible track record on the combined Kyoto circuit, and qualified in 5th place with my second flying lap - could have gone a bit quicker but needed to put the time in so was happy to settle for that. managed to last until the downhill left hander in sector 2 before running wide, hitting the wall, damaging my car and getting a 5 second penalty as the icing on the cake (i still don't get why running off the track and hitting a wall is an instant 5 second penalty, surely crashing is enough of a penalty in itself?!).
from thereon it was a recovery drive, was going ok until i got stuck behind someone shortly after my pit stop and couldn't complete a move on them - cost me time, let others catch up and overtake the pair of us, and ended up running wide in the second last corner of the last lap to lose a few places as well. 16th and 111 points - great
for the Nations, i ditched my usual Porsche 919 and went with the Peugeot VGT as the quick guys seem to like it and, tbh, it looks quite nice and i fancied a change. practice was alright, but quali was a disaster, first two flying laps i got penalties in and for the 3rd and 4th laps my tyres were dead so i couldn't improve, so started 19th out of 20.
my tactic was to play it safe, and try and make steady progress through the field if possible. lap 1 was a bit dicey but managed to make a few places up, and by the end of lap 2 or 3 i was in the top 10. made further progress as other people's tyres seemed to go off and pitted from 5th place, dropped a few places but made a couple back pretty much straight away when people fell off the track. chased down 5th on the last lap, taking them into T1, and then took 4th on the line by 0.1s as they served a penalty. 19th to 4th, that'll do nicely 👍
