Did my first FIA Manu races with a wheel (T300RS) last night which was a pretty big deal, but had some shoddy races all around.
1st attempt saw me and Jag teammate
@Erckie essentially play the role of the Williams F1 cars (ironically, he was using a wheel in FIA for the first time as well) and race each other for the wooden spoon, which Erckie eventually beat me to. After the race, I learned that I needed to use +5 brake balance to save the front tires a little more and be more competetive (thought we were done with this after the pre-season but I guess not

).
2nd attempt was going much better and I was having a good tense fight for what would ultimately be a top 10 finish, but I hit Turn 4's inside curb the wrong way on Lap 6 and got sent flying off the circuit. (
@WiseGuyTM Might've seen that from behind) Nothing I did from then on mattered.
3rd attempt was boring for all the wrong reasons. A botched qualifying (was on for a 37.4-5 on my last flyer but the chicane got the better of me so I had to settle for 37.8) led to the race being a demoralizing drive through no man's land from lap 2 onwards- seconds behind the train of what seemed to be
13 cars with no way of catching them without ruining my strategy. In retrospect I could've slowed down to let
@SpecMiata-JSW catch up to me so I could say I raced somebody, but then again I would've lost positions to one-stoppers. They say one lap pace doesn't win the race but it's safe to say it can lose you the race.
Better to have terrible wheel performances now than at a live event, I suppose. I'm steadily reaching the pace and skill I had with the pad so hopefully things will get better from here.
