Tried out the kart and up to 50.2 if I stay on the track.

Seems the steering is very sensitive and send the kart flying once on the curb or applying throttle a bitt too early. I have no confidence I could stay on the track for the full 20 laps at the moment.
Right now the karts are literally the only vehicle I drive with TCS on. I have it set to 2. I also have to pull out my controller to drive them, because for me they're undrivable on a wheel.

Question:

Are the grip settings during FIA races different then with the daily races? Yesterday I did a FIA race after a very long time.
I only ever did one before. Now I try again and both days it seems that I have a very very very hard time to stay on the road in some corners.
I have to approach them with a lot of care and even that does not quarantee that I'm staying on the road.
But it may also be the combination of Lago Maggiore with the Renault Trophy and Nurnburgring with the Ferrari.

It’s a bit different from Daily A and B, because of tire wear and fuel weight.

Megane last night felt unusually lacking traction, but I’m assuming it was tire related.

Manufacturer Round 8
Was I just unlucky today or was this one of the dirtiest rounds going? I had 3 attempts today and all of them were horrific.

In my first and third attempts my qualifying was ruined by people doing some really shady stuff. On the first one, there was someone crawling around a turn whilst ghosted on the racing line. When I got close, they suddenly decided to speed up and unghost. I ended up losing control trying to swerve around the outside. On the third one, someone who had been fuel burning and pitted for new tyres instead of going straight onto their flying lap decided to ignore the blue flags, hug the inside of turn 1 and park on the apex as I was approaching. 🤬

The only qualifying where there was no dirty play also got ruined because I got an Audi who would go onto start in P1 slipstreaming me (I didn't have one) and then overtake me mid-flying lap. Then on my second flying lap, he braked far earlier than I was expecting at turn 1, and I ended up trading a bit of paint trying to avoid him.

Beyond that, the sheer number of collisions I saw was just crazy. Plenty of accidents taking several cars out at once, people pushing others wide to force their way past (with the penalty system punishing the victims - in my last race a Mercedes gave me and a Renault penalties within the space of 2 turns!!).

In my first race there were a couple of French drivers (Porsche and Toyota IIRC) having a proper ding-dong. I managed to sneak past at turn 1, then the Porsche pushed the Toyota off the track a little at turn 2. The Toyota then decided to ram the Porsche full-speed straight at me, but thankfully something glitched out and the Porsche went through me as I was turning into the hairpin at turn 3. In my last race there was another Porsche that went on an absolute rampage and then started spamming abuse in the post-race chat.

On the plus side, at least in my last race I finished P9 which was enough for a small points upgrade so I stopped there. I'd normally try to give a summary of each race but I'm really not in the mood. Today's not been fun. :odd:

End of season result - 402 points. Pleased with that, as my score from 5 races in the last exhibition season was 428. 👍 Time to start practicing go-karts, and to get some more experience with the Vipers!

That pretty much seems to be the norm these days.

That last race and my Ford GT didnt get on....way to much tyre wear. Next time I see 11x tyre wear I might just pass and look to the next race. That stuff just isn’t fun.

Now time to look to next season. Not sure what I’ll go yet. Ford this season was fun. Cars were easy to drive and generally pretty quick. The gr4 mustang is a great car. The GT is fast, but brutal on tyres and guzzles fuel. But.....it’s the quickest off a grid start by some measure evidently.

Also dropped out of top split. So now I’m top of the second split....hate being top door number. Not much to gain but a lot to lose.

Been doing a fair amount of practice this morning and for some reason the RH are giving me all kinds of fits. I think I may have to pull a 3-stopper just to get off those things today.

Hmmm interesting... anyone has tried a 3 stops?

I just did in a practice race... kinda worked

5S 1H 5M 4S

Yeah a lot did a three stop in the race I did.

For me, I could just about do as many laps on the softs as the hards, but the hards were nearly 2 sec a lap slower. Same with mediums.

So I did three stops having the meds and hards doing two laps each. Then pushed hard on the softs.

I think a 3-stop is the meta. Get off the hard tires after 2 laps, and run 2 stints on softs instead. So many corners at NurbGP and not very much slipstream outside of the front straight, it's worth an extra set of softs.

The 3-stopper kinda worked, I guess. I just got caught up in a lot of traffic. Qualied P9, finished P8. I think I'm done with this track for today.

(No screenshot today. I'm too lazy right now.)

Did just that! #2 on the door. Qualified 13th and finished 10th.

It could’ve finish better if not 4secs of BS penalties!

(Not good with multi-quote replies)

Did 5S - 1H - 5M - 4S...

Will try again. Too many too-anxious drivers... before even I have a safe place for letting them go, they will force passing causing crashes and me with penalties!

Well...... my stupid.
Qualy was done on RS, I was on RH:boggled::indiff::lol:

Got bumped twice on my 2nd qualifying lap by the guy who got P2. Biggest WTF moment I've had so far. Makes no sense. Pushed me to P17. Might try the last one. Did 2 stop. 4s/5h/6m. Alfa with RH isnt too terrible. I also missed the pit from soft to hard. Came in too hot.

Also didn't have time to change start race tires from soft to hard because I was venting the qualifying ram show. Took too long to type.

Quick pre-season summary

Nations: Very poor overall result, could not get past the 266 points I posted earlier. Sure had some bad luck with dirty races, but blaming that alone doesn't cut it for me. Need to improve a lot in this championship.

Manufacturers: Slightly better result at 278 which surprisingly was enough for my first ever local P1 overall - likely because of the fact that the good drivers from here kept away from Aston Martin during pre-season. Left big points on the table at Tokyo South and Nürburgring GP through avoidable mistakes, so there's some headroom here, too.

Conclusion: Missed my personal score target of 300 (100+ per counted race) in both championships, but will aim for that again during the main series. Staying with Aston Martin which was my original choice of manufacturer. Have tried others, but feel most at home with them. Also decided against farming a DR cushion in Dailies as I've been to DR A 3 or 4 times now, but have ultimately lacked the pace to really establish myself there.

Honda was the pre-season champion, but I left them during ES2 because I needed an FR car. Decisions, decisions...

Sorry if I’ve missed this already...but is there no way to practice kart races with tire wear?
Should be. Pretty sure there's an option when setting up a lobby that says "allow kart usage"

Edit: obviously not! Can't do anything with tyres once you pick kart usage by the looks of it!

Looking at the upcoming series', I'm really disappointed that they seem to have shortened most of the races. In the last two warm up seasons (one in Nations one in Manufacturers) we've had GR4 at Spa over 11 laps, but late in this Nations series we have GR2 at Spa over 10 laps - GR2 would do 11 laps faster than GR4 would do 10! Was hoping they'd stick with what they did a couple of exhibitions back where they were all around the half hour mark

In thie 2020 pre-season of the Nations Cup and Manufacturers Series, my final points for them were 112 and 106. In the latter, of all the players for Citroën I was number one in the state of California and nationally number 19. I dedicate this pre-season to the coronavirus victims.

Well finished with an 8th place in the final round with Corvette but tbh should have been an easy 5th and even a podium had I not been murdered twice.

Qualified 8th with a solo lap and a messed up last corner but I did drag @Lost Sheltie round to sixth place

Start was a mess as everyone barrelled into turn one with cold tyres. Tbh it caught a lot of folk out, me included, but some avoided contact whilst others just ploughed into the car in front attempting no avoidance action!! When it was all said and done I was 4th and in good shape starting on the mediums

Dropped to 5th a couple laps later as i let a GTR through then stuck with that car before pitting on lap 5 for hards.

At this point my race started unravelling as I struggled to get the hard tyre working. On lap 7 I was punted off at the last corner by a soft clad ford GT who came out the chicane right on my bumper and made no allowance in their driving for fact I was slower and just hit me off. Dont think it was deliberate but more a lack of racing skill/awareness. Cost me 3-4 seconds anyway

Pitted lap 9 for run to the end on softs as seen a gap in the traffic. Looked like was going to work out but as I left pits and apexed turn one a Spaniard in a renault t-boned me half spinning the car. From the replay they were 20-30 metres behind me at the braking zone and just used my car as a brake. Another 3-4 seconds gone.

I was pretty angry now. Caught and passed the ford GT that had punted me earlier and finished in a train of cars from 5th to 8th. Potential for a great result in the Corvette but those incidents had dampened my spirits as that sort of driving shouldn't be happening in splits that high so I was one and done.

Enjoy the gr3 Corvette but not so much the gr4 however I'm going to stick with them for the official season.

Narrowed down who I want to go with for the main manufacturers season to a few manufacturers I ignored the obvious ones such as Porsche, Mercedes, Toyota and co and the terrible ones such as Mitsubishi and any where I'd have to drive an FF car as I suck in them. So far I'm torn between Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Jaguar and McLaren. I'm already familiar with Chevrolet and the 3 British marques and just wanted people's thoughts on the strengths/weaknesses of the other 3.

I am leaving my BMW behind, after my tour de skiing on hards last night at the FIA race i am done, it seems so random how the car feels with tires. Its like a random generator depending on race type. The daily at Brands Hatch was different, there i experienced my front tires would turn "red" and become impossible to steer in to corners, here i saw nothing of the kind.. what?

GT-R is my choice of pain for next season :-/

I went with Alfa Romeo in Exhibition Season 3 and they're on my short list for 2020. I had by far the most fun with Alfa as a manufacturer and would summarise their strengths and weaknesses as:

Good
  • Good on tyres
  • Good on fuel
  • Superb handling
  • Good stopping power
  • Gr.3 car is possibly the friendliest of the MR cars. The only time I struggled with it was the corkscrew at Laguna Seca.
Bad
  • Top end speed is VERY lacking
  • Depending on the multipliers the 4C's tend to be either utterly OP or mostly outclassed. There's not a lot in between.

The lack of straight line speed does make overtaking a challenge and you're always vulnerable on a straight, but you can really throw the 4C's around the corners, which is part of what makes them such good fun. Looking at the stage 1 schedule I'd probably skip Monza, but all the others are worth a go. Some of the tyre wear multipliers will work in Alfa's favour. When the multipliers are low and there's little to no choice on strategy, Alfa Romeo loses a lot of their advantages.

I should note that the Gr.4 car had a power boost and weight added in the recent BoP update and I've not tested it since then to see how that affects things.

I'm basically trying to decide between this, or an all rounder that will be competitive in most rounds. With Alfa Romeo you have to accept that some rounds you're not going to be in the hunt for the top positions, so either accept that and see what you can do or skip those rounds.

Well I decided against my better judgement to try last night's Manufacturer's race. Did 4 races, and 3-stopped all of them. First race was a throwaway as I got thrown in with a bunch of A+ players due to having a good week at Blue Moon Bay in the Dailies. I started 19th, finished 17th.

Next race I qualify mid pack, then spin by myself like an idiot because my rear tires wore out faster than my fronts (something that's literally NEVER happened to me my entire time driving the Corvette). I drove around for a bit then quit on the last lap. Before my spin I had a realistic shot at a Top 10.

4th time slot (3rd race for me) and I qualify 9th but get mixed up with traffic and get some stupid penalties as a result. Finished 12th and still not enough points to cancel one of my other races.

Last race of the evening and I again get stuck with A+ players, so this race was hopeless. I qualified last after my Corvette decided for no reason that it wanted to swap ends every time I hit the brakes. I decided to stick with it until the first round of pit stops in the hopes that I might be able to capitalize on any mistakes. No such luck and after spinning it at the chicane I called it quits again.

After this pre-season I was tempted to just pick another manufacturer for the real season at random, because the Corvette has been pathetic, at least when I'm driving it. I ultimately signed with Chevy again as I've done for every single Manufacturer's Championship since I got this game over 2 years ago. I hope I don't regret it...

Thanks for the advice, sound like the complete opposite to jaguar which I just finished the last season with.
