Looking forward to the combos for the next, what, 80 races?
Plenty of forward, reverse, wet, dry, morning, afternoon and night time circuits to choose from.

335 cars available. Would be nice to see PD use some regulations from Daily Races e.g., GR.4 FF, JDM only, N class road car REAL One Make(the Daily Race Mk1 GTI at Nurb GP was good). Even some classic car combos.

Gr.4 Red Bull Ring with 15x tire wear incoming...

done 2 races tonight. In the 1st race i started p11 and i started on hards and on the first lap i got punted twice, so i was dead last but i managed to get back to p10.

In the second race, surprisingly i got pole position and for some reason i thought it would good to start from hards again, but it was a bad choice because i got eaten alive by the people behind me on softs, so after 1 lap i was down in p11. I finished the race in p9.

Traditionally, Barcelona hasn't been a good track for me. I spent some time working on it this morning and get my free practice lap down to a 1:46.4. I decide to go with the 2H/5S/5S/5S strat. My main hope is to get away from the carnage that always seems to follow me there.

I qualy P8. I do a pretty good job of avoiding the chaos for two laps, then this happens:

I somehow manage to finish P12. I probably should run again but I'm afraid I'll just become a revenge punting hothead if I do...

Edit: I just watched the TV cam version. It's pretty epic, if anyone's interested. I looks like something like 10 cars go flying off in different directions.

2nd Edit: Slot 2 went something like this:

Finished P17 after it took me about another 10 sec to dig myself out of the gravel.

Final Edit:
I'm happy to report that in slot 3 I qualified P7 and only lost 2 places to finish P9! And I only got punted once!

Tonight's N American races will not be fun. In my first, it was bad enough trying to drive a Ford GT which handled like a treadless tank on ice, but all the ridiculous contact ended up with me losing 886 DR, 45 SR, and dropping from B/S to B/B.🤬 Now having to pootle round at the back of a Daily A to see if I can redeem some SR at least before I can continue.

Edit: Well that worked a treat . All B/B race except for an E/B car behind me, which finished 7th (and with one DNF on 15s penalty). Raised my SR a whole 4 points for a clean race.

One and done here!

Second slot. Number 10 on the door. Qualified 5fh. Lost one position but survived the T1 bang around! Crossed the finish line in 6th. Got 120 pts.

Very clean race for most part.
I really like the Gr.3 - Barcelona track combo!

Manufacturers Round 10
Absolute rollercoaster of a night with FIA to finish out the season for Toyota. In the first slot I qualified 8th, but on the opening lap I missed the braking point for the hairpin and tried my best to send it off the track away from the group but unfortunately took a Mazda out as well. I felt horrible and let the pack pass to eventually finish in 15th. :banghead:

Went at it again in the 2nd slot and managed to snag P3 during qualifying. Much better starting up at the front this time.

For the first few laps there were some good battles from P2 back while the Aston out front was able to start walking away from the pack. I managed to move into P2, but an error going wide through turn 9 gave me a penalty which dropped me back to P3 behind the Lexus. That driver was on a different strategy though and went for tires at the end of lap 3.

From then on it was pretty empty on the track with sizeable gaps between myself and P1 and P3 for the majority of the race. The driver in the Aston was wicked fast and it was all I could do to keep pace, but I was never able to get closer than ~2s. Even after a hard charge on lap 14 which gave me the fastest lap (first ever in an FIA race).

Crossed the line in P2 to take my second 2nd place for the season and increased my point total by 13. Still out of contention for S rank though. Maybe next season.

First round, qualified 14th with door 19, started on hards for 1 lap, switched over and had some rough battles with an EVO that tried to pass me through the final sequence and I spun out. Still managed 9th I think for 117 points.

Second round, burned a bit of gas during out-lap for qualifying, nothing crazy, went in for tires, came out and dropped a 1:45.3, good enough for 2nd. Low and behold who is behind me, that pesky EVO. Did he go for a move on the first turn? Absolutely! :(

I dodged the move and watched the leader take off. I managed a no penalty race, 6S-6S-4S(fuel)-1H and won by 5+ seconds. I was fuel saving once I got to the front because I only wanted to fuel once and I needed to save about a lap to get in 11 laps, but I was doing so well I forgot to go in on lap 11.

The EVO needed fuel on stop 2 and forgot, that screwed him up the rest of the race. On the first stop I guess he rammed me entering pit road when I lifted. I don’t know if the game still does this, but i remember having the gas pedal trigger your tire and fuel selection by accident so I always lift and coast in.

The other Atenza that was on the pole got fuel on the first pit stop and that put him behind some traffic that he couldn’t recover from, plus he got a few boundary penalties.

Pretty clean race and I was really surprised to come out with a win and 176 points. I have never driven the track before yesterday.

First half of the race below...the rest was just solo lapping, not much excitement.

Sorry if I missed something as I haven't been active in this thread for a while. Went in to see if I could change manufacture yet tonight (12:30am PST) and found that the button to do so is completely missing. Usually it's still there, it just gives you a notice that you are already signed up with another manufacture. Anyone else notice that?

Manu was going to be a struggle because I really thought I had no pace at Barcelona. Figured I'd do the early slots and skip Top 16 to give me a fighting chance.

Except all the aliens decided to play the early slots as well so it was more like Top 20 back to back.

Started P10 first slot. Some T1 hijinks led my Turbo Brick onto the green stuff on cold hard tires. Naturally the thing went around and my race was effectively over.

Second slot, started P7 with the in-retrospect worse two-stop strategy. Not because of tire wear; I did really well there. Just that the time gained by skipping a stop wasn't worth all those laps on hards. I was catching the top group at the end of the first stint so I should've just matched their strategy instead. Still was happy with the result given I was in a mismatch with the 911s and a WRX. At least both qualifying attempts were okay despite not using slipstream.

Stage 1 flat out was bad for Nissan. I don't want to hear anything about nerfing the Gr3 at this point. It's the only car that can actually score points and I like driving it.

The Sports Mode Update Preview mentioned April 25 as a start date for the official season but we haven't had any major news since then. Possible that could change but in the meantime, enjoy the break.

Still confused where the button went to. Guess it's normal and I never noticed it.

I'm pleased with the results from this exhibition season. I'm actually very surprised to have finished in the Top 5 for Chevy though. I know it's not a car the really fast guys want to drive, but I still figured I'd be struggling to stay in the Top 10. I also learned that Gr. B cars apparently flatter my driving style, despite having literally never raced them before Nations Round 3.

Do I have all of this correct?

Next FIA season Starts Apr 25th.

Massive update is expected before the 25th, which should be this week as the notice mentioned that we could update our affiliation before the new season.

New Gr.3 Mazda supposed to be released May 25th. But Mazda is the official partner of the FIA championship.

What's throwing me off is the Mazda. If they're an official partner, wouldn't they want that car available at the start of the official season? I'm mainly waiting for the BOP update so I can do some proper testing and see what car I want to go with. But no point doing that before the update

Apart from "massive", yes. I mean, it stands to change the balance in FIA races, but I wouldn't be pinning any hopes on oodles of content.

I am also baffled. In addition, you pick your Manufacturer Series cars when you sign up - and if there's more than one in a category, you still must choose only one... and you cannot use the other under any circumstances...

... so how are Mazda drivers going to drive the RX-Vision GT3 in the Manufacturer Series at all unless they skip the first ten races?

Just to keep expectations in check, it's not a BoP update. At least they've not said its a BoP update. Gamepleay changes they've announced are:

  • Slipstream change
  • Handling change to Gr. 3 and Gr. 4
  • Tyre wear change to FF cars
  • Fuel consumption change
  • Something vague about fuel in qualifying
We can also change Manufacturer choice before Sunday.

I suppose it could be a BoP update but it doesn't sound like it.

It's a lot of variables to change in one update so hoping we get it soon so we can get to grips with it before the season starts.

The GR. 3/4 cars were much more fun to drive before they updated the tire model a while ago. I hope whatever changes they make will bring them closer to their previous handling characteristics (at least for the FR cars).

While there's no official announcement, there's also nothing on the official calendar about the start of the next FIA season. A part of me wonders that not only may it be changed to an exhibition season again, it may be pushed backed a few weeks, as well.

My progression over the past season. I didn't do a ton of "Nations" races but I made all but the first Manufacturer's series and did 1-2 nights a week in the Daily races. Started the season with 55 points for a top 5 finish to getting 181 points for a win. I don't think I have the pace to cut it in the top tiers but I at least have the consistency to stay in the race until the end. The only dip was from the night I got door #1 at RBR but wasn't bothering to run the Toyota. I qualified and finished 18th and it really brought down my rating. I also had a bad night for my safety rating during daily races with bogus penalties in the "chicane of death" at Dragon Trail. For most events, I only practiced for about 30-40 minutes and participated in the last two time slots of the evening.

the most balanced real cars (FR) now have the worst tyre wear, thanks to MR and FF moaners
go go go

Great battling to basically end up where you started. Looked like your car was definitely at a disadvantage allowing you to close in on drivers but not make the pass. Your best laps were when someone was towing you around the track. Looked a like a few rough taps from behind lost you some positions, but kudos to your for keeping your cool and not reciprocating...except that one time...which was well deserved.

Slot 2:

Highlights (6 minutes):

Disconnected before entry had closed, but was able to get back in, thankfully.

Qualified P16 so started on H tyres, with a 2 stop S tyre plan. There was a bit of and end of term barging through element to proceedings and I was determined not to be bullied yet again. So I gave as good as I got and still came out of it with a Clean Race Bonus. Well out of order was the French Audi driver who brake-tested me immediately before serving his penalty. Dirty tactic, nothing else. He came off worse though, with front damage! I've raced him before (and a few others in this race), and he's not exactly been an angel in those either. A few Usual Suspects...

Pitted on Laps 7 (S) and 12 (S + fuel) to finish P10 with that CRB and 34 points. Not enough, so needed to go for at least 1 of the 2 final slots.

Slot 4:

Highlights (8 minutes):

A bit of a family emergency left me no time to set a qualifying lap, so I started P18 of 19 (Door 17). One car spun, whilst another tried to pit (oops!), but the McLaren behind overtook, so I had a net gain of 1 position by Turn 1. I was P14 when I pitted at the end of the lap to change from H to S tyres, re-emerging P17. I was baulked on Lap 5 by a German Porsche crossing the blend line when leaving the pits. (PD, make that a 10s penalty! I do it if the coast is clear but would happilt stop if everyone else did).

Another stop on Lap 7, for S and fuel, and I returned to the track P14. I left the pits after my final stop (S tyres) on Lap 12 in P10 On Lap 14, I was following a fellow Brit in a Toyota and passed him cleanly. I even flased my hazzards to thank him for leaving space. He repassed, with firm contact. He then braked late in the middle of the track and contact was unavoidable, but I did everything to minimise it and allow him to stay in front. But he turned in on me halfway through the final chicane complex, costing me not only the pass I was making but another position too. He then brake-checked me on Lap 16 and ended up in the gravel as a result, having the cheek to call me a "Pig" after the race!:dunce:

I finished P7 for 40 pts.

Slot 5:

Highlights (11 minutes):

P7 start (Door 17). I gained a place when pitting on Lap 5, leaving in P4. There was a nip and tuck battle mid-race between my Alfa, a British Porsche and Spanish Aston for 2nd to 4th positions. The Porsche won it with some 'robust' passing attempts until I took P2 on Lap 9.

After pitting on Lap 10 (H and fuel), I returned in P4, right behind an Alfa I'd battled with early in the race. Fresh tyres got me passed andwe both pitted at the end of the lap. I rejoined, P3 behind a German Porsche. I took P2 about a third into the final lap, only to be tagged and spun out at the tight left hairpin near the end! He continued on to finish second while I just barely clung onto P3 and 52 pts. He apologised after the race, but when I said he could have given the place back, his excuse was he'd have lost a further place. I pointed out that since that's what very nearly happened to me when he hit me, that it happens some times and that would have been sportsmanship. No response.👎

Yeah, the switching of the cars after the season starts, is going to be interesting.

Say the RX-V is slightly better at everything, than the Atenza. Points gained when first using the Atenza, how will it look if players using the RX-V start leapfrogging Atenza users? What then? Are Atenza users allowed to switch after the May 25th?

The website says Mazda players have to buy the RX-V(if those Mazda users have started the season with Mazda), meanwhile any other brand chooser can switch completely over to Mazda on May 25th.

Excluding all those who have just bought the game and those that wait until May 25th, to choose a Manufacturer, it's just not logical.

Another thing about the update, will we FINALLY see Michelin branded tyres?

35k after a month?!? ! Wow, I ve never been there after 6! Cheers!

@TeddyWestside

2nd race, don’t ever attempt a pass through the final sequence of turns, it will never end well. Unless you are past the other driver, he’s gonna hit you your block you through the chicane, just get close and set up to pass down the straight. If you try anything else you’ll just slow the both of you down.

3rd race, you appeared to be way off pace exiting the hairpin, i’m not defending the other driver, but when you get on the gas after the apex, you don’t expect to have to lift because the car that was over a car length ahead is now parked at the exit of the turn. It sucks it spun you out, but sometimes that’s just the way things happen. You can get mad, or you can go back and improve that turn so you get a better exit speed next time.

35k after a month?!? ! Wow, I ve never been there after 6! Cheers!
Thanks! I literally hadn’t played the game in probably 2 years. I was a D2/D1 S.N.A.I.L club driver back when the game came out but got burnt out from the D1 drivers knocking me around. Spent last two years doing real-life HPDE events, dabbled in iRacing a bit, but wanted a game where I could recover and be in contention if someone wrecked me on the first turn. As much as people complain about the penalty system, it at least allows you to keep racing. I’ll stick around until they open the tracks again!
