Now onto the "rant" section. I'm surprised I didn't see more complaints about the penalty system around La Sarthe. I'm usually ok with it, but that was not cool. It's like they put Oprah on the steward board. YOU get a penalty, YOU get a penalty, EVERYONE gets a penalty.

It's the lack of consistency that's frustrating as you say - the problem is there are some places where as long as you run 2 outside wheels on the kerb you'll be fine (as your screenshots point out) and other places where if even a pixel of a 3rd tire touches the line you'll get a penalty - the most egregious of those are at indiannapolis (clip 4) and the exit to the porsche curves (clip 2).

Wow, watching some of the replays the race looks like a lot more fun when you’re not in a neutered Corvette and can pass people on the straights.

...the only people I passed in my races In the Vette either crashed or pitted. BOP, rofl.

The second video makes no sense at all when the 4C was the other side of the line completely but doesn't get a penalty. I found in my race yesterday, plenty of times the car in front or behind went wide like that and didn't get a penalty.
You're right I didn't even notice that!! I really got upset in the moment because that car was basically pushing me out of the way before quali, so I decided to let him go, and that happened haha.

Interesting. Unfortunately it seems like the same corner doesn't apply penalties the same way depending on "Oprah's mood". So unpredictable... Am I supposed to do a "track penalty analysis"? Also could it be car related?
I ended up racing with the all four wheels inside the track which is crazy right? :D

I prepared a few videos, here are just 4 examples below where I think I didn't deserve them. Below the vids I'm including screenshots of the fastest lap in the rankings, WAY abusing track limits and no penalty. That really needs to be addressed. Both regarding consistency, and better calculating. Again, if you can please tell me what you think but those penalties below are not deserved, and they add up!
You basically have to learn the corner limits for each corner. I'm not sure about your first video, but I think it's because of your position on the left in the braking zone. The second video is a little weird, but that corner effectively behaves like Red Bull Ring turn one - if you go wide enough to get onto the yellow strips but not so wide that you can't get back to the track you get a penalty, but if you go a bit wider you won't. The third video is just too much of that right hand kerb, and the fourth video you cut the wrong corner of the chicane - you can cut the right-hander pretty hard, but not the left.

There's a couple of other places on the circuit that are a bit hit and miss - you can cut Tertre Rouge a lot, but don't run wide AT ALL, and you must avoid the inside kerb at Indianapolis like it's got COVID.

I keep seeing "request to watch" when I see what games my friends are playing, but haven't tested it out. Not sure if that requires setup on the other players end.
I'm guessing that this is a PSN feature that shares whatever is on their screen is shared with you, no matter which game they were playing... I would also guess that it would interrupt them if they were playing already, and that it may soak up some of their bandwidth, making their in-race connection less robust. But otherwise I think you're right, that's the only way (other than external services like twitch/youtube).

I wondered if there was any server-based service (avoiding the p2p bandwidth issue) or feature within GTS to allow it. I guess not, based on the responses. Might be worth a shot in a Daily Race to see what's involved, though. Thanks!

Thank you for that, I'll work on it for the next one.
That being said, I know I can work around it but I still think that the game should improve. I understand that contact penalties are complex since it involves two (or sometimes MANY more :D) moving cars. But track limits should be like a goal line, plain and simple. You paint those white lines, and everything should be decided based on weather or not all four wheels are in out out of the "playing field".
It's hard enough to stay within the white lines at times, IMO I shouldn't have to memorize invisible lines on top of everything else.

Had a terrible round at Le Mans with not much practice. Hoping to connect to the Top 16 race on Saturday at Sardegna which should be much better (hopefully).

Halfway around Suzuka, I quit. Really is no point in doing FP. Not even for bragging rights.
Race day, those numbers go out the window. I've seen many a times, players choose a different car than the FP time anyway. Hope PF change this for the next game. Add fuel/tyre wear and only one lap, like the Lewis Hamilton Challenge.

For the most part, the only point is to understand how much time you are losing to your opponents per lap (and where), in ideal conditions.

It is no substitute for practising in a lobby or offline custom race, which is what most people should be doing if you intend to get a good result.

The track boundaries are laughable and the Audi is a PoS.
You echo the exact sentiments of the Audi driver I raced in my 2nd attempt yesterday. He was faster than me overall, especially in the twisty end/beginning of the lap, but he kept losing the back end accelerating out of the slower corners, so once I passed him I was able to stay in front (except when he passed me going into the 1st Mulsanne chicane, after which I promptly passed him on the exit of the same chicane). He looked like he was white-knuckling the whole race. We both ended up with a shortcut penalty at the Dunlop chicane on the last lap, despite both of us having 2 tires on the track and actually probably cutting LESS of the chicane than we'd done on previous laps!

I've seen this reference to '40 points' before and haven't understood it... what's the significance? 40 points of what?
The manufacturer with the most points from its top-ranked driver in the region gets 40 points for that round in that region in the Manufacturer Series. Second gets 36, third gets 33, fourth gets 30, then 27, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14 and so on.

These are the points that determine which manufacturer qualifies for the Manufacturer Series World Tour events, and which three of the five regions' drivers qualify to race them.

You can see that here.

Thanks... I didn't realize there was a separate points system for the Manufacturers. I thought it was just a summation of the individual points. The official site is kind of confusing sometimes and can be a maze of link/paths to the info you need.

Not sure if the driver in the Beetle had a vendetta against the car he hit or something like that because it’s hard for to see any chances to make that left hander taking that line at that speed.

This was on lap 1 and I was extremely lucky to drive away unscathed and not get caught in the middle! Phew!

I went into last nights race with low expectations, because the Z4 is not a very sharp weapon for horsepower tracks. My first race was top split and I had a terrible qualifying lap, then spun on my own on the first lap of the race. Long story short, I finished 19th and took a substantial DR hit and ended up with door #1 in second split for the next race.

In the next race I had a good qualifying time, thanks to a DNA_Judoka towing me the entire lap. When the race unfolded I knew the only strategy for a decent finish was to avoid penalties and stay in the draft - that was all I could do. Fighting with anyone wouldn't make sense because i wouldn't be able to pass them back and we would just lose time to anyone in front of us. Thankfully, the race went to plan and I finished 4th, collecting 232 points in the process. It's interesting how far the points spread is between 1st and 2nd split lobbies now that the DR cap is been raised (just an observation since I go back and forth a lot).

Here is a link to the video that shows how fast the Z4 was in the straights. My race was by no means perfect and my pace wasn't alien-esque, but it's a good visual to show the car does need some love from PD. Now, I need to decide if I want to muscle through the rest of the season in the Z4 or move to a different manufacturer at the end of the month. I don't have any amazing point results that I'm worried about losing, so that's a consideration; but I'm also not a quitter. Hmmmm...

There is some language on the video from other team members, so be forewarned.

I'm gonna defend the Beetle driver. From my own experience more than once, if you stay on the left on that part of the track, its like trying to slow down on ice!

Oh and well done in the M6 last night. I thought the car was the problem on this track but it was obviously me!!

Definitely looks like he overshot the right and got in the dirty on the left. At that point the brakes are useless, he couldn't stop at all.

Manufacturers went quite well last night. First entry was so bad, I don't even remember the exact positions where I qualified and finished, but I know that I lost positions. But the second entry was much better - a clean Q6/P6. I was in 5th for a bit, but I couldn't keep up the pace with the GT-R in back of me. I am apparently now the 11th-best Hyundai driver, and for the Nations Cup, I'm the 7th-best driver in my state. Not bad, considering there are over 50 drivers for each category.

On another note, what Gr.3 cars do you think will be ideal for Suzuka? I'm thinking something derived from a 4WD model, like the WRX or Lancer.

pretty strong showing by team DNA!

It's both discouraging and motivating to see the lap times of your guys' races, when it looks on the surface that I'm doing most of what you are, as far as lines, braking points, etc... just doing it all slower!

My feelings exactly. When I watch their replays, it even looks like I'm carrying the same corner speeds, yet I'm always 1.5-2s off of the fastest drivers (even more at longer tracks like Spa, Le Mans, and the Nordschleife obviously).

Third times the charm was the theme. Guess the ABS glitch is still there because 1st race attempt brakes weren't working properly at all. Second race attempt got spun out in qualifying so starting from the back pretty much ending any good result along with still having brake issues. Third attempt went a lot better, restarted my wheel for qualifying and again before the race start fixed the ABS issue and felt more comfortable driving other than having to use these damn RH tires on this car the whole race lol. Back to a top 10 finish and hope to get things back to how they where before what happened on Tokyo Expressway.

I think yesterday beat what little life (interest) I had left in Gran Turismo FIA races. I had a great first race starting second but then for whatever reason GT watered down the allure for Le Mans for me. I barely kept clipping the curb right before the dunlop bridge and I kept getting a penalty. Then I got hit from behind and with dirty tires I fell from 2nd to 9th. Not happy I tried again and it resulted in getting punted from behind and rage quit, and the 3rd was a dismal 13th as I was so far behind I just said F it and threw on Mediums for giggles.

I don't know what possessed me to keep going because any other track I would have quit. But I do love Le Mans as much as Laguna and pure race pace I'm really good. Eventually wound up with an 8th and some good points but THE FORD GT Gr3 IS AN ABSOLUTE DUD AND I HATE IT! So basically I'm rendered to be somewhat competitive in Gr4.

I can understand track limits at Mulsanne as it's even enforced in real life but barely clipping the curbs by dunlop bridge, getting squeezed to the inside at the mulsanne chicanes and getting penalties are absolute bull and it basically beat me lifeless last night. Thank god it didn't penalize us for bump drafting because I think that would have been the final straw.

MR cars usually top the Suzuka list, try the R8, Pug VGT, NSX, maybe the Supra for an FR car. :)

Thank you sir! It was a good night for the DNA dudes, a few guys scored 300+.

Don't get discouraged, just keep at it and your speed will continue to increase. 👍
