@Dezcom I don't know how you managed to go from 19th to 6th last night in the Nations. When I saw you behind me I was like... how is that possible? You almost got me on the final lap too I got some oversteer in Lesmo 1 and had to really nail Ascari to not let you get a slipstream coming out.

Wow, I CANNOT believe this happened in an all A/S lobby.

edit :: updated video link, removed broken gif.

Best bit is 4s penalty for you 1s for blocker. Blocker also gets a boost partially making up for the 1s penalty while you stop dead.

It is not my statement, it is written on the formentioned page.
You extract only the parts that suits you.
You missed these:
-Double apex corner, Sepang, turns 7 & 8 (not corners)
-Attack THEM (turns)
-These types of corners (as double apex corner in plural) have the same characteristics of the constant radius
corner (just a comparison)
"Same characteristics of how best to determine a racing line does not change the fact they are two separate corners divided apart by a straight section of racetrack as shown in your illustration"
Illustration is only example, in this case with longer straight.
DTG last corner obviously doesnt have straight section between two turns.
I understand you are attempting to make the case of 1 corner vs. 2 to support your argument of the racing incident in question. There are problems with the source material you referenced.
  • It's taken out of context.
  1. There is no mention at all of racing etiquette in regards to other cars.
  2. The lead in to this is, "I want to list here only some of most frequent corner types. There is many more of them, and combos of them, but when you want setup to be done properly, you will concentrate on this few basic and most demanding types..." So it's context was as a basis for car setup.
  • This is not an official site of any racing organization, so does not add any weight to the argument. Footer on every page states, "Formula 1 Dictionary" is not affiliated with FIA, Formula 1, Formula One Management, Formula One Administration, Formula One Licensing BV or any other subsidiary associated with the official Formula One governing organizations or their shareholders. Or with anybody else. "Formula 1 Dictionary" is only mine, not profitable site for all F1 fans to enjoy and to learn from."

This was the manufacturer's cup race from yesterday:

I'm still confused wether I was at fault or not on the incident on the first lap, the cars went a lot slower than what they could.

Finally got a good result again! I've been through quite a struggle lately

You extract only the parts that suits you.

I only extract the parts that are actually relevant to the application currently under discussion

DTG last corner obviously doesnt have straight section between two turns

Driver2 uses the situation, shortens the corner radius (goes slower) and eventhough he has no chance of overtaking driver1 in the corner

This was a comment that had been bugging me and had not been addressed.

Under no racing rules THAT I AM AWARE OF ANYWHERE does whether driver 2 actually completes the overtake or not weigh into whether or not he has the right to occupy an open racing line through a sector of the track.

As long as he maintains his position within his, in this case inner line and leaves open at minimum a full car width of unobstructed open racing line which in this case would be leave open the outside racing line to driver 1 then he has met the obligations he needed to meet to have made a legal racing move in this situation.

It could be said that driver 1 while maintaining an unfamiliar line on the circuit to his normal racing line in that section could have resulted in driver 1 making a mistake that would indeed have cost him the position.

That scenario we will never know because driver 1 did not maintain his outer line available on the track and turned into and hit driver 2 who did maintain within his inner racing line leaving the outer line available as he should for driver 2.

Any way you look at this the results still come back to driver 1 did not maintain his racing line period and turned down into the inside line which was already occupied by driver 2.

The following is a diagram of the Dragon Trail Garden track map. Although the straight section between the two corners in the discussion is actually very short it is still a straight section none the less.

I do not see how by the track map you can actually even remotely and by the farthest stretch of the imagination consider this section of track a continuing radius corner.
latest

Now just for fun and to add even more to the controversy the following is a diagram of the Nascar Bristol Oval Track.

Now notice how this track has its corners numbered 1-4.

Now that there is no distinctive straight between the corners and for the most part the track maintains a constant radius between turn 1 and 2 and turn 3 and 4.

Does that mean that another car does not have a right to overtake a lead car using an unoccupied lane except before turn 1 or turn 3 because the lead car may be planning on changing lanes at some point before the next corner?

The current discussion seems to indicate this is the direction or opinion that some seem to exhibit even as ludicrous as that idea may be in reality.

I wonder if we're able to view the more in-depth leaderboards outside the game, even if only though a third-party? I mean the leaderboards for who's the best in your state if you live in the USA.

@Dezcom I don't know how you managed to go from 19th to 6th last night in the Nations.
good job @Dezcom , I was also in this race and got screwed. I think i started 9th, a chain reaction behind me pushed me wide, came out of T1 18th and had to play catch up, I think i finished 10th but was being held up by one person who made it difficult to pass. After passing him though, I was able to pull about 1.5 sec per lap on him. It was chaos back there for a while. Oh well, bad luck.

Deliberately entered the elite Nations lobby just to ride around at the back and pick up some points. The best I could run was in the 52s at race settings, and the leaders were in the 49s. Didn’t do terrible for most of it but had a succession of spins at the end. Whatever, my 18th in that race gave me more points than my 18th at Le Sarthe. Finishing mid pack at Maggiore will be enough to improve on both of them.

Did well in Manufacturers, qualified 14th and finished 10th as the 13th seed in the room. Would’ve gotten 9th if not for a silly penalty I had to serve at the end. Haven’t looked for sure but think I’m still leading Subaru.

It’s been the theme in every race this series, the 1st race I do I always gain a ton of DR and the 2nd race I lose most of it again.

Just crossing my fingers for some road car races in Nations in the next 2 rounds. They are my only hope for big points. C’mon MR2

Yes, you are still 1st for Subaru. Congrats.

I'm a big Subaru fan but after Dragon Trail Gardens I'm really starting to dislike the Gr. 4 WRX. I'm not an AWD fan to begin with but I figured I could make it work, especially since none of the other Manufacturers I tried had me really convinced, besides the Citroën GR. 4 which I do feel very good in. Suzuka was a disaster because I just broke down and made silly mistakes. But after Tokyo I was confident. I managed to gain places and bag nearly 600 points on what is probably the worst track for the Gr. 4 WRX. I was ninth for Subaru despite the Suzuka disaster. So I was thinking Dragon Trail would be good to me. I'm an A/S - fast driver but nothing exceptional, however I had targeted top 10 with Subaru and top 200 in the global rankings.

Qualified 16th last night after screwing up the chicane on my first lap. For laps 2 and 3 the tires were already too worn to get in another fast lap. Race was going good, very clean all around. By lap two I was up to 12th, pulling away from those behind and catching a group of cars that were battling. Tire wear was pretty bad but manageable. I pit at the end of lap 7 along with everyone in front of me. Changed tires and loaded very little fuel since consumption was so low. But somehow I lost two places in the pits. So beginning lap 8 I was 14th. I don't know what happened at this point, but even with fresh tires the understeer was just horrible. I was quickly dropped to 15th and those guys I had passed and was pulling away from in the first stint were now pulling away from me. By lap 10 the tires were just shredded at 50%. Got passed on the last lap and fell back to 16th but I gained two places due to penalties and managed 14th place, but less than 300 points.

I am at a total loss for words. I was putting in decent times for an A driver in free practice (high 1:38s) and in an FIA practice lobby 1:39s and 1:40s in race trim. I just don't understand why the car's performance just dropped off a cliff after the pit stop. I was sure I was going to end up between 6th and 8th judging my pace before the stop with a whole bunch of cars right in front of me. Maybe I'm just retarded but I am starting to regret choosing Subaru.

Hey everyone! I just completed my first FIA races this week, I went for the Manufacturer's Cup because I thought the tracks were more interesting, and only had time to focus on one series. I chose Porsche as my manufacturer since I love the GT3 car, but didn't have a lot of experience with the Cayman GT4. I had good results at Tokyo and Gardens last night, but felt the Cayman was somewhat of an underdog and I was constantly defending at the end of every straight vs. the other GT4 cars. I also noticed that not a lot of people were racing the Cayman.

Has the BOP made the Cayman an unpopular choice right now? I'm not complaining about the car, it drives great, but just curious since I'm totally new to the FIA races and saw very few of them in practice times and both my races.

Thanks!

My glory days are behind me I guess. Qualified 19th on the Nations Monza race, finished 20th. No pit stop, no penalties, no points. Somehow was able to clear the carnage into turn 1. Manufacturers was a little better, qualified somewhere around14th I think, but actually had some close clean racing with the dudes back there (Hi @The359 It sounds like you weren't happy at the end) and finished 12th or something. No penalties again. Can't remember if AMS_Redline is on here but man.. What happened to you out there? lol

Kinda unrelated but I jumped into Project Cars 2 afterwards and did my first online race. GTE cars at Imola. Had to quick throw some settings at the Ferrari 488 and finished 3rd. Driving felt so good and VR is awesome. BUT, it turns out bad drivers are in every game. Next we did Bathurst, same cars. Felt like I was hauling, qualified 4th.. and turn 1 someone just drives straight into everyone. Rest of the race was similar. I went from 4th to 14th to 5th to 12th to 5th. God I wish that game had GT Sports matchmaking. And the corner cutting (don't go over the white lines) penalties were tight but felt kinda fair. I just had to let off a little to clear it.

Im not complaining, Just showing my race, 1.5laps of it at least. Penalty system was very unfair as i got twice a Pen for a total of 12sec.
Watch until the end

Haha it's like he just targeted someone to attack in on both of his accounts

So that's 3 divebombs, two deliberate blocks, I think 2-3 rear bumps, competing on two accounts and 2 squeezing car off the track all in one day.

K32
Just looking at the thumbnail for the video (and knowing how many top drivers are using that car) it's safe to say that about every 5th driver is using the Nissan for Manufacturer races in Europe.
Great job PD. This is why you don't let just one car brand advertise your game. You need to encourage all manufacturers to do some promotion, which creates a loyal fanbase with each one (and you need to fix your BoP). Now there's not much competition for the top spot in any other manufacturer.

Glad to see the "Everthing is Nissan" meme from the Beta is back,we have come full circle

Zoky there setting an example for the hopeless next generation, that really is the most innovative take on clean racing I've ever seen, looks like its time to adjust my driving style

Yes I'm now treating this whole situation as joke, as it rightfully deserves to be. Its now impossible to take this debate seriously :D

I own a WRX so I would've picked Subaru in a heartbeat. The Gr4 WRX is why I didn't. It has this strange understeer/oversteer feel but that I could deal with since it can get great exits. The tire wear is what hinders its one advantage and magnifies the disadvantage of being an absolute brick in the straight. It needs more power because the tire wear isn't correctable due to its layout.

The last BOP change made the Cayman better. Unfortunately, the Cayman was and probably still is one of the worst Gr4 cars out there. The transmission setup on it is atrocious for a car that already lacks power.

Somehow it's all your fault.

Double apex corner is not a continuing radius corner, it has the same characteristics of the constant radius corner.
