Hi all,

I'm confused about this week race at Interlagos (apologies for the newbie question!): the race details say 'Min N° of Pit stops: None' and at the same time 'Required tires: H/M/S'.
So which is it: can you race on the same set of tires without stopping, or do you have to use all three types of tires (i.e min pit stop: 2)?

Thank you
It doesn't say that you have to stop 2 times. My plan was to do a hot lap with soft and swap to medium during the qualify and stop only once. Is that not allowed?
The potential for confusion is obvious, but they're motorsport terms and there's a big difference between mandatory pit stops and pit stops you have to make to use mandatory tyres.

Mandatory pit stops are those you must make, regardless of tyre concerns. Races can put in a mandatory stop to ensure that every car has a pit-in and a pit-out lap in events where some cars could theoretically complete the race distance without a stop (or stops) while others can't; forcing all cars to make the same number of stops eliminates the advantage of fewer laps spent in the pits.

Stops you have to make to use mandatory tyres are simply assumed knowledge. If you have two grades of tyre and you must use both, it's simply assumed that you know that you must make a pit stop. It's not a stop forced by pit stop rules, but by tyre rules.

Of course in a game there isn't really any reason to separate the two terms, and PD could very easily make it less confusing by setting the mandatory pit stop count to marry with the required tyres. Three mandatory tyre grades plus two mandatory stops equals no mandatory confusion...

But yes, in a race where you have three required tyre grades, you must use all three at some point during the race or you will get a 60s penalty (20s in the Daily Races) afterwards. That means you'll need to stop at least twice.

I don't follow why qualifying is brought up. Qualifying isn't the race and it doesn't count towards your tyre use. Qualify on the softest tyres possible then, after qualification in that minute of pre-race countdown, switch to whatever tyre you want to start on.

Hey guys, super excited for Spa!

A track I’m comfortable on, BUT I don’t think I’ve actually raced GR1 in sport, in recent memory anyway, how exciting!

Doing some laps here and there, none of which are remotely impressive lol, hope I’ll be ready.

Not much in the garage for me here, so I’m playing with the Toyota TS050/ Hyundai VGT

Know very little about these cars, anyone able to drop some basic knowledge about their strengths/weaknesses vs each other? 8)

I need to do some more testing but I put in some decent time seeing how I liked the Gr. 1 cars. I only tested the 2016 R18 and the 919 because it turns out I didn't have the TS050 like I thought I did, and I feel a bit conflicted. I was getting better lap times in the R18, around 0.3-0.7s, but the 919 felt much nicer to drive. Also, I didn't realize how powerful slipstream is for Gr. 1 cars, holy crap, I might have to qualify in a slipstream train this time if I do race.

Edit: I tested the TS050 for a bit, and it felt like the R18 but slightly worse in all aspects. I drove all three back-to-back on RS with fuel and tire wear on and the 919 felt the best through Sector 2, but the R18 felt better through Sector 1 and 3. The 919 seems more forgiving if you don't trail brake correctly and seems to have better turn-in, but the R18 seems to have the pace if driven correctly. The TS050 felt more stable like the 919 but wasn't as forgiving, kind of like the R18.
I only have the Toyota, so I'll be using that no matter what. How did the battery deployment and recharge compare between the different cars?

At the end of the lap the R18 is on empty charge. It rebuilds the charge up to around 1/3rd in the chicane but immediately uses it all into T1, where it rebuilds a bit but is again used up completely before the secondary pit area is passed. You'll get brief bursts of electric acceleration out of each braking zone since the battery recharges then but it's never more than 2-3 seconds since it deploys so fast. You absolutely have to make sure the car is pointed in a straight line because the deployment is brutal and will understeer you into the Shadow Realm if you decide to get on the gas while still turning. But, it'll provide a huge burst of acceleration coming out of the corner.

The 919 and TS050 rebuild their charge as you drive in addition to braking so you're never left empty for long if you manage to deplete the charge completely. It also deploys much slower. So, the charge is deployed all throughout the lap and the only place where the charge may go to zero is at the end of the Kimmel straight. You still need to make sure the car is pointed straight/not turning sharply when the charge deploys still but it's not as brutal of an experience compared to the R18. So, the deployment also doesn't feel like you've engaged warp drive and feels like the regular acceleration of the car.

Good post... yeah, it's an adjustment to learn to drive with 0 trail-braking, in order to maximize the little regeneration recharge you get in the R18... otherwise the boost pretty much nil by Eau Rouge as noted here. As someone who relies a lot on trail braking, a real adjustment to get more 'binary' on the pedals, especially at a track like Spa. I will try the Porsche tonight to see how it compares, and the Toyota too. I've got them all so it's a matter of which works best. I don't think it will end up being the Audi.

I'm hoping more open lobbies show up because again, while I did find an open lobby last night filled with people everyone in it was either much faster or much slower than me, so I wasn't able to try to stay behind them for long to simulate a race pace. Not to mention the host decided to randomly start the race... with a grid start... I swear it was in this thread somewhere someone said the 919 is affected less by dirty air, so I'd be curious to know if that's true or not.

Hybrid system works until car reach 250kmh... There are few places on Spa...
And if you manage to control brake pedal its possible to got charge for a full lap, even in R18 '16, but thats difficult...

I'll plan to run one tonight and/or tomorrow, after 9:45 or so, if you want to dig around you're welcome to join. Looks like we are similar pace. Will be running a Spa race sim with a friend or two, and Interlagos (I'm hopeless there, but probably better put in the work for the Rd 10 / Stage 1 finale in the manufacturers series anyway.)

Yeah, I assumed people reading that would already be aware of that, but probably should've thrown that in there to be complete. So, the battery indicator drained wherever it could, which was for a good 1/2 to 2/3rds of the lap, except towards the ends of straights where I started going faster than the cutoff speed, compared to the R18 which drained the battery instantly after a corner (which is what I meant).

I'll gladly join, I'm still trying to figure out if a Gr. 1 race will be a torpedo to my DR or not lol

I was almost out of battery before T1 in the R18 lol.
Same... I actually thought it (hybrid system) was just disabled for qualifying and was only allowed in the race... until I noticed it flickering on exit at a turn later. Then I started watching it closer and realized that it gets just a trickle of a charge up throughout the rest of the laps, but was mostly irrelevant when I was driving normally. I have tried to adapt my driving to get more regen charging, but it doesn't help a lot. Been told to put the brake bias all the way back to rears, to improve it, but haven't tried that yet. Think I'll just end up in the Porsche anyway. Or maybe say heck with it and jump in the 962. I'm not going to win it anyway!

I think qualifying was bought up because of some real world rules that require you to start the race on the same tyres as you qualify on. This is not the case in this game.
The next confusion will be when there are mandatory pit stops as well as mandatory tyre compounds required!

PS: Very consice and respectful answer.

I have personally found that due to the hybrid deployment in GT Sport being automatic, it's impossible at race speeds to make full use of the charge in the TS050, neutering a large amount of that as a benefit over the R18.

For example, coming out of turn 16 towards Blanchimont even though the TS050 may have a full charge, it only deploys for a second or two. Even against an R18 with half (or less) hybrid charge remaining, there's not a remarkable advantage in the TS050 having a full charge at this zone of the track if you're unable to use it.

In a daily race C a few weeks back with the GR1 at Le Mans, the TS050 was clearly the faster of the two during the race because you have much longer straights, with bigger deployment zones and less braking periods to recharge. I think at this race at Spa the battle is going to be less in the TS050's favor.

The high powered non-hybrid cars like the Peugeot won't have any of these dramas to contend with of course.

It will be an interesting race to see what various people pick, and how it plays out.

That isn’t a GTS thing. That’s how the hybrid systems work in the real race cars as well. They aren’t used at high speeds and are deployed automatically.

Perhaps I should have worded that post in a more precise way. They certainly don't design the real race cars to not use the entirety of their charge like happens in GT Sport at this track. They deploy them at the most advantageous spot, which happens to be at the exit of slowest corners leading onto the longest straights. If they're deploying charge in all these places and all that's left are high speed zones, and there is charge remaining, you bet they will deploy it there. I'm sure I don't need to point that out though.

It seems the deployment model for the hybrid system in the TS050 is the same across all tracks in GT Sport, which is fine at Le Mans but in this case at Spa means the maximum performance from the hybrid system can't be realised.

I'm really conflicted on which car to use for Nations...

Even though I've seen online people saying the TS050 is the best choice for race pace, for me, I'm getting around the same times with the R18 and the TS050, low 1:59s on RS and mid-to-high 1:59s on RMs (which probably means I could be driving better on the RS but the cars never feel right to me). Meanwhile, I'm in the mid-to-high 1:58s on RS and in the high 1:59s to low 2:00s on RMs for the 919. With how I am with tire wear I like going 7 laps on softs, 8 on mediums, and 1 on hards, so I'm not sure which car would be best.

Between the R18 and the TS050, the R18 feels "heavier" (quotation marks since they're both the same weight) but has better turn-in, while the TS050 feels more understeer-y on turn-in but more agile. Yet, I still feel the best in the 919, for some reason going through Pouhon feels amazing with it while in both the R18 and TS050 I'm usually second-guessing myself there. Even though I'm technically going slower in the 919 it just feels better to me.

First post, so blah, blah, hello.

But to respond, I really think the cars are pretty equal. The 919 and R18 are quicker in the straights (upwards of 10 mph down the straight), but the TS050 seems to be more stable in the twisty bits (which is most of Spa). So with those cars it seems pretty even. But for me it, the TS050 won on it's ability on slow speed corner exit. And really, two corners on this track are where you gain or lose all your time. The Chicane and la Source. Can you carry your speed into the chicane, and get on the throttle on exit without getting a penalty or spending too much time on the kerbing? And can you exit the hairpin without running wide? With the R18 and 919, I struggle greatly with understeer out of slow corners. And with those two corners, I think you lose too much time exiting those sections of the track.

Though, because the daily races this week are not very enjoyable, I've spent plenty of time testing each car. And would say that honestly, it's a coin toss. On softs, I lapped the TS050 about a half a second off the R18 and 919, but I feel they are all competitive cars.

Though, just from how the daily Gr.4 races have been recently, I think the overall masses will go with whatever is the fastest on the Top 10 chart. So, while I'm going with the Toyota, the Audi seems to be the consensus choice.

I wouldn't worry about tire wear for this race though. Whatever car can get you a good qualifying lap is the one to go with. You really want to get a top 6 start, as you don't want to get stuck in the middle of the chicane when it goes green. Because right there, you'll be seconds behind by the time you get to T1.

Or go wild and race the Nissan.

I appreciate the thorough response, thank you! They definitely seem pretty evenly matched which is why I'm having a hard time, because I'm always indecisive when it comes to everything :scared: I agree with you, while you get the warp speed of the R18's electric boost out of the Chicane and la Source, you basically have to point the car in a straight line to accelerate because of it. I've definitely noticed the TS050 is better at getting out of there than the R18 and the 919. I drove a little more and I actually was always 0.2-0.4s faster in the TS050 than the R18 in Sector 1, which I think also has to do with how the electric boost is deployed. Or I'm just really bad at driving the R18, who knows

Or go wild and race the Nissan.

I want to see some madlad/madlass do it and win now.

But, I've definitely chosen the TS050 over the R18 because while I could get a fast lap down, it's usually only 1 or 2, then the lap times just get worse. The TS050 I was much more consistent in and if it weren't for some mistakes I would've beaten my R18 lap. The 919 though... I just can't explain why that car feels so much better to me when I think it's supposed to be objectively slower around here...

Is it Saturday yet?

Yeah, I'm calmly hyped for Interlagos.
(Me dreaming again)I kind of wish some of these races were limited to real cars.

Like Spa. Yeah, might be a One Make tomorrow, but it'd be cool if PD limited(like we see in the Daily Race A FF& JDM events) the choices to current real cars, in each real world series. It'd mean Mazda(I'm now thinking of using a Porsche, Audi or Toyota, to make my replay look like a real race)) would have to sit this one out, but it'd feel more like a real WEC round.
No doubt the red panda in the room, are the differences in hybrid performance. I still feel it's something PD should look at doing, for the next Sport Mode in GT7.

First post here been lerking for few days and recognize a bunch of familiar names I've raced with so thought I'd share my season.

Driving with Ford, my entire family drives Ford so it wasn't much of a choice. Picked the Ford GT over the Mustang and I haven't been disappointed at all with that decision although the gr4 Mustang is a complete dog. The Ford GT isn't great with fuel or tires but it has it's moments. I haven't fuel saved all season just run until empty has been my strategy no lean.

First time trying to make a commitment to FIA only been running in the Manufacturer Series so far and it's been hard enough with the disconnects after practicing all week, so a few races I've been a no show.

Started this season with 20k DR B/S rating and currently sitting at 60k DR A+/S rating. 456 points on the season currently 5th for Ford in the U.S. with Interlegos left to go.

Ford GT podium finishes at Dragon Trail Seaside, Le Mans & Sardegna. Haven't finished outside of the top 10 all season long in Gr3 class.

Seaside and Le Mans were my races to lose and I did after walking away from the competition the entire race on both to finish 2nd.

Definitely strongest at Sardegna I was able to do whatever I wanted and take any line and make huge gains. It was like a missile example being starting 20th to finish 3rd. Run it twice more for couple of run away wins. Special appearance from wedjim in that one I've seen him on here posting.

Not sure how y'all are uploading your replays but I tried and failed miserably. Got a few of y'all in my replays as well, ha.

First off.....welcome to GTP!

I’ve raced against you before. Glad you could join!

As for replays, I think the best way is to have a YouTube account and upload them there and link it here. I am not sure how to embed them in your post like some do. (Please explain somebody!)

You can edit your videos on the PS4 in sharefactory before uploading and upload direct to your YouTube once you link it to your PS4.

See you on the track!
