Is the Scirocco a legit option for Nations? If so,I may have to give it a go as it is by far the easiest FF to drive for me.
Scirocco has the best off-throttle turn in of all the GR.4 cars(yes, even better than the Slophy). Best steering transition of the FFs. 3rd gear is it's best gear when accelerating out of corners.

At this circuit, it's quick to combat the faster, in a straight-line, TT.
After T1, the transition at the esses, to the run down the pointy hairpin, is where you'll make your time(well, it's where I'm quickest). Off-throttle, for tighter positioning through those esses, keeps the speed up over the TT.

The TT seems to be very strong using 1st & 2nd gear in the tight turns. 1st is too short in the Scirocco. You won't need it.

Had a second attempt at the manufacturers and was brake checked on qualifying while on a scorcher of a lap. Then on the 1st lap got a 3 second penalty for no reason and spent the rest of the race getting driven of track. Shouldn't have bothered.

I decided to sit this one out.

1. I'm not very good with this car/track combo.
2. I thought about racing on an alt account, but I don't want to mess up anyone else's SR.
3. I'm hoping PD listens to all of the griping after this round and change back the penalty system.
4. I'm a bumper away from finally getting my "A" DR. Not gonna chance it.

Good luck to everyone this evening. Try to have fun.

1 and a half and done. Qualified 6th for Nations and finished 6th. Led for a lot of the race and got FL but messed up my strat. Haven't had time to do any race practice so should have placed higher. Went straight into Manu's, lining up with @JWPTexas88 and a couple other familiars but again no race practice. Ended up shredding the tires on my R8, spinning a couple times and quitting....burnt out from Nations and haven't mastered the R8 in longer races. Might have been the wrong choice in my debut FIA season. Wish I could race a couple other slots but I like sleeping in the big bed

edit. Gained 700DR for my 6th putting me at a PB of 37700 and lost 1400 for the quit. Ouch

Thank you for your answer and Vulcan's too.

I'm on a wheel so I guess I should blame my driving style :D

I'm hovering around 40k DR so let's say I'm not a "noob" but I feel like there are lots of things about the technical aspect of racing that I just don't know about. Anyway, I realise that without a video or something more precise it's difficult for you to say what the problem is but I was rather looking for a general "good practice" list ;)

Like, for example, do you always brake as hard as you can first before starting to trail brake ? How can you put your foot down on corner exit without spinning the wheels too much ? How can you minimise the sliding on fast corners ? Etc, etc. So many things to improve ! :p

check out Tidgneys driving school on you tube. He goes through a lot of that stuff

I applied for Nations Top 16. Guess who got in!
.. NOT ME :(:(:(

This is what I get for starting Nations 1.5 seasons late haha. Oh well! I was 4 spots off of entering.

I find I can’t compete in that car. Everyone’s faster. I’d say it’s much more challenging than gr3.
The combo there (South Outer Loop) is terrible. It will invite the wall slammers and punters, especially on the right turn before the hairpin. I smell a penalty fest there.

After discovering I had some errands I had to run this afternoon I've decided I'm sitting these races out. The longer race length and multiple pit stops is enticing, but I never had time to run practice with fuel consumption/tire wear on and even though I have run free practice on both tracks to the point that I could stay pretty consistent, I still didn't feel super strong at either. Plus, with how the new penalty system/slipstream effect is and, for Manufacturers at least, if I want to qualify half-decently I'll need to be in someone's slipstream, that's a surefire way for me to hemorrhage more DR and also tank my SR. And despite all that I want to run the Supra race tomorrow because I like Tokyo South Outer Loop....

I hope i’m not the only one who had a good day in both Nations and Manu?

Qualified 5th with door number 3 in Manu. Never got a good draft in my Corvette, so felt like i‘d be competitive. Did about 45 miles of practice and thanks to this forum I knew i’d do a one stop, Starting on mediums. As the race started it felt good, I was able to hold back and keep pace, saving my tires. Sadly I made contact on lap 3 and got into the bumper of 3rd in a Porsche who was braking about a car length before me going into the right hander under the bridge. Not the way to find out, still my mistake...he stayed on track and I got a 2 second penalty dropping me back to 5th again. I battled with 3rd Driving an Audi for much of the race, eventually being passed and dropped to 5th...but pit strategy Paid off when others were doing a two stop, I used hards for the second half, gaining three spots to finish 2nd. 166 points.

In Nations I got about 50 miles of practice and knew my strategy would be a 3 stop. Thanks for that tip guys, since I had no time to test it out in advance. My error was going 1 lap too much on the 1st stint on mediums. 8/7/7/1, I would have been 1.5 seconds faster and might have had 2nd, we battled the entire race and I feel like I had a slight edge, but that added lap cost me, it was my slowest lap...finishing 3rd in the TT. Top 5 were all TT’s.
I should have done 7/7/7/2 since the mediums went away hard on lap 8 for me. 160 points.

FIA Championship Round 24

Nations Race - Autodrome Lago Maggiore - East II / Gr4

I ran the TT, since it served me well in the prior Gr4 race at DTG, and since it seemed to be the consensus META here. Qualified with. decent 6th, planing to run @Mistah_MCA's suggested strategy of 7M/7M/7M/2H, though I would put on the H's for the 3rd stint to separate from the traffic I was in.

I had a likely podium, in 3rd, but I dropped a wheel on 'that spot' on the left track edge after the esses... cost me almost 7 secs and worse, track position, putting me behind two fellas that I was happy to have cleared and was gapping substantially on the first stint. My mistake. But the good result was enough to call it one-and-done, and I ended the event with an all-time new DR and a nice FIA points, haul... the first in a while for the Nations Cup races. Happy enough!

8439764409027428864_0.jpg

Q6 / R5 / #4 - The Official livery from the TT Cup is close enough to my own preferred white/black that I haven't applied the house livery to the TT, but maybe I should... I do like that car and have gotten on well with it this season when I have cheated on my Porsche with the AUDI.

Manufacturers Series - Blue Moon Bay Speedway - Infield A / Gr3

I was looking forward to this one- I kind of like this little infield roval track and thought it was a new challenge with the Gr3 cars and the long 30 laps distance. Was happy to see @Lewmatic and @wedjim in my lobby screen. :gtpflag:

But had a big scare when I got the 'black screen of ...death?' when the warm-up session started. So I lost out on that, and hoped that it would clear up for the qualifying session... which it did not. OK, now I was worried. But I accidentally found that if you go in the 'main' menu (top left) and return, it clears up... so I had 3/4 of the time left in the QT session to put in something. I was struggling a bit in the FP, so I was worried that this was all a bad start to the race. My goal was really just a clean top 10, having had the great result in the Nations race already.

But WTH is wrong with people in qualifying?! A guy lost it 2x in front of me, which meant I was right behind him and rather than letting me thru so my hot lap wasn't ruined, he kept ahead of me, then binned it on the exit to the oval, meaning he careened into me, even though I was trying to duck well under him. I mustered a decent 9th starting position withy my one legitimate opportunity, which wasn't a bad thing... and right behind @Lewmatic, so I was looking forward to racing with him again!

But thanks to some idiot on lap one, my race was ruined before the first sector was over on lap 1. This ingrate punted me straight off and ruined a bunch of our races in the process. The moron then quit the race later, but not before he refused to let me pass when I did catch up to him in the first stint. No respect, and I hate these types. Between all the other quitters in the race, I ended up 14th, which was only one spot ahead of last, by the end of the marathon. A thoroughly unenjoyable race and I'm so sick of these types ruining races. He happened to be the guy that won my Nations race an hour earlier, and he was way out in front the whole race in that one, but I guess he doesn't understand how to race behind people when he's not in the META.

(You know what's going thru my mind on lap one, over and over? "Don't take anyone out. Don't take anyone out." Wish others were at least half as considerate.)

Qualifying: 9th / Race: 14th / #7 (WASTED HOUR AND LOST DR THANKS TO IDIOT)

Oh well, at least I'm still at a new all-time DR high and on right track for my long-term goal. So I won't try it again at BMB, though I would really like to... it looks like a fun race.

(PS: third CRAP race in a row with #7 on the door... not exactly my lucky number... never has been.)

edit: looked at the guy who punted me to see what his track record was: looks like he’s a serial wreckers-or-checkers guy who either quits or auto-drives if he’s not going to win, his races are all either wins or near last/DNF. Not cool. Again: it’s too easy to rehabilitate SR and it ruins the game that people can game it so easily.

I instead ran 2 races in career mode of ACC @ Brands Hatch. Would rather have done that than these two FIA races will tell you how I feel. And my 7th and an incident resulting in a DSQ is way better than what I'd had finished in todays GTS races.

I think I had the most fun in this race over all the races I've done in this game. Qualified 8th with @KosmoKazi behind me. Was unfortunate what happened to him on the first sector by that dirty driver and caused a huge mess behind me. Made a mistake after my first stop in the first sector and went in too hot on green tires sending me off track but didn't get a penalty which I was happy about and got momentum back to following the R8 and Corvette again. I think I could have been fine starting with Hards instead of Mediums but I'm okay with how everything turned out finishing 7th and had fun chasing down those two cars.

This is going to be so cool. We have slicks for the next Nations race.

Edit: Wish PD would at least tune the springs, camber and lower the ride height. Would make sense after bumping these beasts up to N600 and slicks.

Practice paid off for me in today’s Manufacturer’s race at Blue Moon Bay. My first pole position in FIA (only my 3rd pole ever) and a 2nd place finish!

Another big thanks to @Mistah_MCA for your guides and your ghost. I was able to get down to a 1:06.9 in FP and practiced the 15M-14M-1H strategy in a few custom races. The right rear on the NSX got real sketchy but a -2 BB helped. Felt like I could bring decent pace and consistency to the race.

B/S lobby with #16 on the door. Not much to lose, lots to gain. I didn’t know the math, but told myself a win would get me to A. Qualy was looking like I’d be in the midfield as I encountered someone still learning the track on my best hot lap. Pitted for fresh tires with a few minutes left and put together a solid lap. I caught a great tow at the end and took pole by .051 ahead of a RCZ.

Clean race start and the first 10 laps saw the RCZ and my NSX trade the lead several times. They executed a solid bump draft that didn’t result in a penalty. I had a chance to return the favor, but was too nervous that it wouldnt go as well. Either way it was just the two of us way out front by my stop at lap 15. The RCZ went another 3 laps on Mediums (somehow) but came out of the pits a second back. I built up a 6 second lead but started to lose time when that right rear started dying. Switched to Hards for the last lap and came out a second behind as the RCZ had successfully executed their 1 stop strategy. Turns out my math was right and the winner went to A. I grabbed a good haul, but still B for now. I’ll get there.

I’m really happy with the result and the progress I’ve made the last couple of months. I really appreciate this community and all the great tips and stories that are shared here. Thanks, y’all.

Did the first 2 Manufacturer's rounds, the 1st of which was wasted on SR recovery (thanks to Daily Race C). In that race I qualified and finished 2nd, and lapped all the way up to 7th place, with 10th and lower going 2 or more laps down.

In the "real" 2nd race, I qualified 11th, and 2nd of the 4 Corvettes in this race. In the end I finished 6th and 1st of the Corvettes, with the other 3 finishing 17th, 18th, and 20th (DNF). In my first stint, once everyone settled down, I was in a fight with 3 Astons over what would ultimately be 6th place. I knew if I wanted to finish at least 6th I'd probably have to try something different with the strategy, so on my first pit stop, I decided to take Hards instead of more Mediums...and so did 2 of the Astons. Fortunately I was able to get in front of the 2 Astons that were now on my strategy, and one of them dropped back out of our battle. After we stopped again a few laps later to switch back to Mediums, the rest of the race became about holding off one of the Astons and trying to close the gap to the other that hadn't pitted for Hards yet. Fortunately I was able to do just that, and was able to leapfrog the 6th place Aston when they pitted for Hards towards the end of the race, and held off the other Aston that had been following me since after our first stops to beat them by half a second. It was worth 196 points, which is short of my 200 point goal, but I decided not to risk it in the final slot because I hadn't scored any points in the previous 2 rounds.
FYI, C8R racing Corvette finished 1-2 in IMSA Manu class, winning it’s second event in a row! Woot!
Here comes IMSA with the BoP hammer...

Since they "let" the Porsches walk away and win over half the season last year, it would be ridiculous to slow down the C8.Rs after only 2 race wins, but I feel like that's what's going to happen.

I wasn’t positive if that was you and spelled the same, now I know. Good race, featured our battle which lasted quite a few laps in that replay. Very fun race, quite a few clean battles, I wasn’t expecting that. Nice work!

Ran the Round 24 Races again on my Alt account, with average DR in those lobbies of about 20k...

Enjoyed a nice clean race at Lago Maggiore, in a freshly-purchased TT for the event (figured it would pay for itself...) and lost 2nd place to a pass on the last corner as I was fretting about running out of fuel. Should have just gone for it and if I ran out, I ran out, but it was a good clean pass by the other TT and a fun race. Top 7 or 8 were all TT's in that race!

But what I was really looking forward to was the race at BMB... after getting ruined in my 'real' race, I wanted to see if the combination was as fun as it should have been. Jumped into my factory Corvette, and while I couldn't touch @wedjim's qualifying pace from that earlier race, it was a fantastic racing car (and SOUNDS great too)... as consistent as a metronome, apex after apex, and no problem with fuel or tires. Considered his M/H stint strategy, but I had worked my way up to the lead, from my 9th starting spot, so decided I liked the pace and wanted to keep it up on the M's.

After pitting for my required H's with two to go, with about a 5 sec lead, came out for the last two laps and nearly drafted my way past the MB AMG that was leading. Hats off to him for a good final lap, when I went purple in the first sector (even on hards) he didn't blink and was able to keep me behind until the finish line... but only by 0.28 sec! What a fun race... just as I thought, that track and car combo was really fun. Glad I could get a fun one in before the weekend racing was over.

Finished in 35:00 flat. Curious how far off the A/A+ lobbies that was... I suppose more than 30 sec.

7142722218317873672_0.jpg

THAT close to a win in a pretty competitive B/S lobby. ...and look at that, I didn't notice: with 'lucky' number 7!

I wonder if I messed up coming in for the hards with 2 to go... losing by only 0.2 when I was probably that much faster on the mediums, but then again, I might not have been able to draft up to him in only one lap. Or I wonder if the one-stop might have worked... but that's what makes these races fun. Could use a crew chief, I suppose!

Bumped the alt account up to almost 20k, which is lending itself to some nice racing, I have to say. Last four races at the last two rounds, 2nd-3rd-3rd-2nd against some decent drivers (including 3 that were clearly also Alt accounts...) It's good practice, too...

Jumped into my factory Corvette

it was a fantastic racing car...

For me it’s the Way. I think many times users of slower handling oriented cars have this mindset like “hehe that vette is catching up on the straight but watch me lose him in the turns...”
Then it becomes “damn that vettes still on my ass.”
Then “he’s got slipstream and he’s pulling alongside”
Then “I’ll show this guy check out my late braking ability”
...
...
:::car slides a little deep as vette passes on inside:::
Hehe sometimes that happens...and when it does it always makes me smile.

Today's racing was a mixed bag for me. My first attempt at both races didn't go well.

In Nations, I decided to try the Subaru WRX as I got a time of 1:24.450 with it in practice time trial, so I felt I could get at least in the top 10 in the race. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite replicate what I did in practice and qualified dead last. (19th in this case.) I finish 15th. Bleh...

For Manufactures, things went a lot better...at first. I qualified 10th and on the first few laps of the race, I managed to climb several positions. But tragically, the rug was swept under me when one of my tires caught the curb/grass midway and I spun out. I also learned the hard way that the Huracan cannot do 10+ lap stints on Mediums. The car became prone to sliding and it was getting difficult to keep it stable. These problems combined resulted in me finishing 19th...

Nations - 2nd Attempt

I wanted to give the WRX another chance but not wanting to risk three bad races in a row, I decided to save myself as much trouble as possible and just use the Audi TT. After a 10 minute crash course on learning how the car handles, I qualified 4th. The race was fairly calm, though I had an exchange with another TT for 2nd. I followed @Mistah_MCA's guide, and finished with that spot in the end.

full

Manufacturers - 3rd Attempt

In the second slot I qualified 8th without slipstream, but I finished 11th. An improvement over the last race but I was not satisfied since I finished lower than I started.

For the final race of the evening, I qualified 13th and I decided to start on Hards. I went with a rather questionable pit strategy this time though: 20H/10M. I knew it would be a gamble, but at this point, I was willing to take the risk. It took delicate driving on my part, but to my relief, it payed off. When I finally switched to Mediums, I came out of the pits in 10th.

9th place was on the table, but on lap 27, I encountered a very stubborn Subaru driver that did everything they could to keep it:

Luckily, the drivers behind us were too far back to capitalize on that BS penalty I received.

(Also, thanks PD for forcing Michelin tires on everyone's car in FIA now. They go great with my Continental livery.)

After missing the last 3 rounds because the Viper just didn’t feel competitive for me, I can see I’m not alone! Again, after a bit of practice at Brands, it’s looking like I’m missing 4 in a row. Doesn’t help that I don’t find any of the the remaining Manufacturer rounds exciting. Nothing to look forward to. RBR maybe at a push as the Viper is quite strong there.
