I am a D/S player, with 1 DR at the moment. I am garbage at this game.

Turismo-lester is in my lobby. I did overtake him...during qualifying, when he was on an out lap. Let's see how this goes.

Dude, I got knocked down to 1 DR numerous times when I started playing Sports Mode. It's rough, I know but putting in the work to become a better racer is a rewarding experience IMO.
 
I could spit bullets right about now. No penalty and the :censored:cker

Well, first race was an absolute disaster. It was good seeing @Master Weasel in the room! But that was all that was good about that race. Couldn't nail a good quali lap (lapped alone, but I could've gotten at least 5th if I put it all together) so I started 8th. The entire top 5 go too wide into T1, and a person who I'll call "W" brakes too late into T1 and wipes out a Jaguar. I come out of that in 8th. Coming into the fast left-right in the middle of the track, W completely bottles it and slams into the barrier. Rather than staying off the racing line as a sensible person would because they're slow, they go right back onto it. Guess who was coming in at that moment? I slam into the back of them, luckily without a penalty, but they ricochet off the wall and spin me 270 degrees so I'm perpendicular to the track. Down to last place for me.

I was ready to just park it in the pits, but since my DR is already low, I wanted to minimize my DR loss and I was betting that a lot of people ahead would pit, and at that moment, I was still only 21s away from the leader. So I kept going, and the only "excitement" was another driver who decided to keep bump drafting me and giving me SR downs, and even though I was clearly faster than them, they tried fighting me. The Red Mist was definitely coming down here so I made a pass into the left right after the hairpin, which I normally wouldn't do, but I wanted to minimize my time loss. They try to pass me at the next corner and we touch, and I get a 1.5s penalty, but they also get a 2s penalty after hitting the wall. That whole incident cost me at least 10 seconds.

After that I didn't end up racing anyone, I just kept passing people who pitted and I recovered to 11th place. Luckily I only lost 1 SR and 160 DR, so I'm going to go again and pray that this will be better. I thought "W" was cool, but watching the replay, they kept divebombing ramming people into/out of corners. Great.

Race #8 - Gr3 / Tokyo Expressway - East Inner Loop

After all the buildup to this one, I knew I had to put in a good performance. I had put in a solid 2:07.5 in FP after getting all my lift points and max min cornering speeds figured out. The Cayman would finally be at an advantage at the Tokyo race. And I drew #18 in the lobby... as the only Porsche driver! It was just up to me.

Qualified 7th, without much of a tow, which was good enough, given that I knew that some would have to pit and that I could save more fuel and have more pace than the field. It was a QUIET grid introduction! Everyone had done their homework. I blipped the throttle to rub it in a bit that I wasn't going to have to be as careful! I have to say, also: it was one of the best looking grids that I've seen in a while... excellent work on the custom liveries, guys!

But in reality, I was too careful... started at Fuel Position 2, but lost two spots before the first turn, then another over the next lap. But I figured the Vettes and Vipers were just going all out expecting to pit, so I didn't sweat it. I eventually let @afc5150 past as well, before I calculated that I could light the wick again after the fourth lap. (sorry to learn his race was ruined, in the chat after... for what's worth, I've had an issue with him as well, though I don't think he means to drive dirty, he's been over-zealous around me too, I was recalling that as I approached him without knowing he hit you earlier....)

But by then I had lost the draft, and it took me a full lap at full fuel to catch up to it again, then started to pick my way up the grid, as others pitted as well. Made a textbook slipstream pass into T1, outbraking a BMW M4 who smoked his tires... it was a fun moment and we both raced super clean but super hard for a moment. He was clearly managing fuel though, so I was able to gap him after that, and then worked up to 4th place.



I made a couple of very minor mistakes, my first real driving mistakes all race, while chasing a Viper ahead on the last lap, who himself was on the tail of 2nd place. Anything could happened. I might have gotten caught up in the moment and as a result I only made it to his bumper at the line. I finished with too much fuel as well... I should have kept it at 1 on the first lap, defended my position, and I'm sure I would have had another win, which I admit really sucks to know... maybe I should have run a practice race instead of so many FP laps.

But after a rough season, I'll take the 4th place, the 141 FIA points, and the 1000 or so DR points. But I'm happy enough with it, and glad to call it a round while looking ahead at the RBJr race this weekend (my FP time has me in the top 100 so far... hoping I am good on pace and merit a good result there, too). I may just give it a go on my Alt account... the DR is the same as my main account, so it may be a fun challenge even though I haven't run any FIA races on it this season.

First slot. I was in with @Razgriz2118. I couldn't grab a slipstream in qualifying and started in 13th.

Turn 1 was mostly okay. The only casualty was a Jaguar driver that got clipped and spun out. And unfortunately, I saw @Razgriz2118 wipe out after hitting a 458 that collided with the wall and then got in his way. Sorry man. That really sucks.

Trying to describe the race after that though is just going to give me a headache. It wasn't good enough to go into detail about. I was mostly just trying to avoid the chaos as I was stuck around a group of pretty aggressive drivers and I came out mostly unscathed. I only got one SR down throughout the whole thing and still have 99 SR, which is a miracle. I tried my best to implement my fuel saving strategy I posted earlier, but because of the mayhem I couldn't follow it to a tee and had to adapt. It payed off in the end though as I gained a few positions on drivers that had to pit for gas, and I crossed the line by the skin of my teeth with 0.1 laps of fuel left. One and done. Not pushing my luck.

This race was poorly designed from the start anyway because of the stupid amount of fuel saving needed to stay competitive and the incidents that happened were just the icing on a crappy cake. I hope whoever came up with this round never makes another one again. I would've skipped this, but I had little choice as we're in the final rounds of this season, so I needed to get some points.

But to end this post, here's a sample of how frantic my race was and what can happen because of the dumb placement of the penalty line on this track:

Evening ladies and gents, finally back to it after a couple weeks without time to compete. Got in on the 2nd slot with @Razgriz2118 and missed my breaking point at the end of lap 1. Took out a few guys and got landed with 4s, fast forward to the hairpin and I got a BS PD 3s taking my lap 2 penalty tally to a lovely 7 seconds. Twas messy at the back, I screwed up my fuel saving and on lap 8 after running out of gas just before the FL limped into the pits and the rest was a disaster. Bounced of every wall on lap 9 and came in a solid 17th for the drive.

SR down to 85 jumped into the 10.10 at Sardine sandwich for a boost and now Im at 75, I'll never learn. 10.40 slot with the crazies awaits.
 
Tonight was pretty intense. It was my first real go at hardcore fuel saving and on top of that it was a combo that was tough for me to find any real speed.

Slot 1 was an exercise in frustration. It was a fairly low rated lobby, as I was door number 6. Right away, I could tell that a bunch of people had no idea what they were doing. I jump out into qualifying hoping to catch a slipstream. Right away I catch up to a 'Vette recovering from a wall impact. First thing he does is block me when I try to pass him. Next, coming out of the esses going into the high speed turn sector, he goes wide. When I try to go under him he swerves back to the racing line, slamming into me, giving me a penalty and SR down. The rest of qualifying was essentially different variations of that. I end up qualifying P14.

The race was a bit better. Well, after the requisite cluster:censored: at the first hairpin - which again resulted in an SR down. I was successful in catching a tow down the pit straight a few times but I could never keep it much past that as I was fuel saving and none of them seemingly were. I also gave myself several wall penalties, some of them a result of me trying to switch the fuel map at bad times. I did save enough fuel to go flat out the last lap and half or so. I gained a few positions when I didn't have to worry about fuel saving and then several more as people ran out of fuel on the final straight. Then I ran out of fuel about 500m before the finish and ended up losing 1 position right as I was about to limp across the line. I ended P10, which wasn't all that bad considering that I thought it was going to be worse with all the penalties I gave myself.

Slot 2, I waited quite a bit in the pit box before qualifying. Screw the slipstream, I figured I'd be better off with clean air. Not really. I qualy'd P12.

I tried to find a better balance between fuel saving and maintaining a slipstream this time. But more than anything, I tried to watch my entry speeds, keep off the wall and also be much more aware of people doing stupid things around me. I did give myself one stupid wall penalty - from changing the fuel map at a bad time again, of course. I noticed a couple people from my previous race that ran out of fuel were now doing the 1-stop. That really helped my cause as while I had a lot of decent laps, I never had a great lap. I fuel saved well, grabbed a couple of good tows down the pit straight but then also ran in clean air quite a bit more than I wanted to. The last part hurt my time and fuel load a little bit but I managed to grab a guy about halfway through L7. I was finally able to set the fuel map back to 1 on the final lap and push to the end. I didn't run out of fuel this time and finished P6. Not a lot of points, as it still wasn't the strongest of lobbies but I'm pretty happy with it. I wasn't expecting much coming into this round and mainly wanted to improve my skills at this type of track and tinkering with the fuel map in a race. All in all, I think it was a successful endeavor.

Whew.... Race 2 was chaotic, but luckily I wasn't on the receiving end of anything. @CJam was in my race and qualified well! Ended up keeping my nose clean as much as possible and finished 7th. Chaos everywhere. I could've gotten 6th if I had known the Porsche I was racing and the Mazda ahead was out of fuel, but I played a game with the Cayman on the final turn where I would lift off the throttle to keep them from getting behind me. They ran out of fuel, and if I didn't do that, I might have been able to catch 6th at the line, but oh well. Managed to gain 600 DR for a net gain of 400 DR, so I'm still in the 40k range at least.

Thanks, I had no idea where they were going and got the short end of the stick. Good to see you came out of that mostly unscathed! There were quite a few.... not-so-aware drivers in that race.

I figured that's what happened there, the combination of the penalty zone, the brake markers being above where driver names are, and a group of cars at that turn is a recipe for chaos. In qualifying I actually did the same thing but luckily only glanced the wall. I saw on the replay the 3s penalty you got was when the Scirocco missed their braking point and hit you. Sorry that your race didn't go well! I hope you get your SR back up.

Felt quick on this track and I think if I had some slipstream pole was a possibility

Add to that I was stupidly flipping between my fuel map and radar while trying to overtake the Scriocco.......not my finest moment.

Jumped into slot 3 on a lower lobby and got my SR back up, really tempted to do the 12'O race for the points but I've got too much going on with work. Need some shut eye! Congrats on your finish, hopefully I'll be able to race at the weekend.

I try to be positive about most rounds (I enjoy a variety of strategies, cars and tracks) and look at them as a chance to improve, however I feel like the only thing I really learnt from last night's race is that I should have avoided it.

Hopefully PD will notice that this combo wasn't really viable for some cars and avoid anything similar in the future!

Back to the positivity, looking forward to the Nations race on Saturday. I feel comfortable with the car and that I can be competitive towards the front of the field. Should be good fun!
Have only done some minor testing, seems there isn't much of a problem with either tyres or fuel.
Can anyone confirm this will just be an all out sprint?
 
All out sprint from what I saw in the practice sessions that we held for our private league race. Pretty much it will be a race for the polesitter, it's pretty hard to get top race pace when following on this combo and any pass attempt will hurt the following sector.

In my opinion, this car is more suited for the technical tracks - high speed tracks doesn't really suit them for enjoyable racing...
 
The car is very light so easy on tyres. We had a race with it at Catalunia a while back and to make several strategies viable for a 25 laps race 13x was the minimum for tyre wear. And in that combo we would do at least 8 laps on Softs at good pace so 10 in mediums on a track that in my opinion is easier in tyrewear than Catalunia should be no problem even for the more aggressive drivers.
 
I know that as a Porsche driver it is easy to see it the other way... but I think that having some variety in the race formats, including this fuel saving race on a unique track, is good overall. (and I'm not particularly good at fuel saving races.) The Porsche have been up against the field without strengths for most of the first half of the season, until the last race or so, so a race that played into it was welcome from my part and the balance over the whole season is fair enough. That's how it can be in real racing as well... every track will offer a different experience.

And I really came to like the challenge of this particular layout... having never driven on it before, I loved the rhythm of it and the mental challenge of being patient every turn, to be faster, was fun. It took me nearly 50 laps of practice to get the last turn down, and even then, I didn't hit it perfectly every time, and that cost me a podium spot when I failed to get a run on the Viper ahead of me on the last lap of my race. All fair game.

With that result, and a solid last round at Barcelona, I've put my Manufacturers Series standing back on track... top 25 for Porsche, number 1 in state, and higher than my overall ranking from the last season. But still far off of my goal. With two decent opportunities ahead, at Laguna, where I'm pretty disciplined, and at Suzuka in Gr4 where I've had good runs before- I hope to bump it up just a little further.

Now I need to get my Nations Cup standings sorted out! That RBJr race is shaping up to be a fun one... That car is so fun... the harder you push it, the faster you go, and the more separation you create in your lap times. Winged formula cars are pretty cool animals. I've put in a bunch of practice, can't bump into the 1:37's yet but consistently running 1:38.5's-- so I hope come race day I put in a decent qualifying lap and then a solid top-8 or so finish.

Star Player is not going to happen again this season, but getting into the top 200 for both series would be great, and though there are fewer players this season, compared to the last one- improving my overall ranking will be a nice accomplishment.

After my drop to B C, I was able to run in the back in some dailies and pick up 3700 DR and move back up to 81 (S) SR. That was really all I had time for.

Jumped in slot 1, saw a couple fellow A drivers that had also fallen from grace. Tried to grab a slip stream, but it was too hectic. So, I just lapped by myself and qualified Q2 with a 2:08.2xx. Not terrible.

I stayed in the front pack and saved tires and fuel as much as possible. I don't fight in fuel saving races. I use people who want to turn and burn. I try to stay flexible as well. I'll push to catch a slip if I have to, I'm not too rigid. This race, I initially was going to no stop. But, P1 was really pushing. So, I didn't let him get too far away and waited for a rabbit. Worked well as I took the win, overtaking P1 in the pit stop as I had 25% more fuel and was only a couple seconds behind.



After dinner, I jumped in the 3rd slot and I believe that was the race with @HaydenFan69 . I qualified Q2 in this race as well, this time with a 2:07.8xx. Again, I just lapped alone and stayed out of the qualifying fray. I did a better job of saving every drop of fuel I could in this race and passed the leader when they pitted. Then I just managed my fuel on the last two laps, as I was out by myself, and took home a 2nd win on the night. Both races were clean races so I'm back to 99 SR and I've moved to 21K DR. Still a long way to go, but at least I've got my SR sorted.
 
Why haven't PD done anything with the penalty system yet... It feels impossible to race closely with people. Especially with last nights combo.

Racing was a disaster last night. 1st slot was the only one with regular points (220 for 1st). Got bump drafted and lost sr along with getting tangled up in a train of 4 cars and everyone ping ponging off each other because every one wants to be mm's off your bumper. Dropped me down to 83 sr.

slot 2 was a lower sr lobby. Grove decided to join me there too. Qualy was a mess. Got a couple sr downs from slow drivers stay on the racing line when others are in a flying lap. Got bumped drafted in the 2nd race from the same person who bump drafted me in the first race. Finished 2nd or 3rd but now down to sr b.

Rest of the night was just trying to recover from 59 sr. Only managed to get up to 75. Also got a 4 second penalty because two cars about 100m ahead of me started having a bash fest and took each other out in a corner, leaving me no where to go. And then I saw them ghost so I drove through them. 4 sec pen for forcing another car off track. Woohoo.

But I got the win in the last slot for 49 points. *thumbs up*

Plus it was so easy on the tyres that by mid-race it ate the competition up, I set my fastest time on the second to last lap and it was almost the fastest lap in the race by only a few tenths.

My goal for this season is to finish in the top-100 for Chevy (80th right now) and top 1500 overall in EMEA (1600-ish right now).

Yeah, cautiously optimistic for that one... Suzuka is statistically my best track, I can often pull the field through the esses no matter what category we are racing, but I'm especially comfortable in Gr4 cars... the Cayman yielded me a podium 2nd place in my first ever FIA event, so good vibes in addition to some statistical indicators. It's a great race course as well, and with the technical turns, usually a little easier to manage the 'rough stuff' if someone is causing trouble, but overall I am hoping it is a good end to this short season in two weeks there.

I love T1... the more confidence and familiarity you have, the faster you can take it, and you can work it a bit to create opportunities off the normal racing line. The Cayman is a sound tool for such a track... what it loves is BALANCE... so keep all four wheels loaded, keep the throttle open a bit at all times, and it will reward you with added speed which seems beyond the limit on the high speed stuff. It's advantage is the incredible mid-engine balance coupled with those fantastic brakes, with a nice flat boxer engine torque curve to really dig into the apexes. Everyone was focused on the fuel advantage at Tokyo, but it was also nice to have a car that was easy to keep the min speeds up mid-apex there, which lent itself to the draft without a lot of drama. You could lose the draft and still catch it that way.

And no doubt... the EMEA region is much tougher competition... good luck!

Not me. After I ran a race in a lobby the other night with you, I realized even going flat out here wasn’t going to work with the Mazda.

Maybe the race would play out differently, but thought if the race was pretty clean, I was immediately 9 seconds off the pace of the Vipers, Vettes, and Astons.

Ok, I didnt save the replay correctly and couldn't remember. Yeah, those Vettes were killin it there. The Viper I could at least hold off in the straight.
