If you have someone in front of you with a slower pace , you will try to pass him , for a place or for final race overall time.
Total lap time is very expressive and show how good you have really managed the race . It's not a 20 laps time trial , if you spin or get out of the road , total time will be higher together with the lesser points .

Players fighting for position, defending etc. taking sub optimal lines will have a slower overall race time. Players don't always use the same fuel & tyre strategies either. I'm sure most players have experienced being held up behind another player who either pit before or just after them or hasn't pit at all.

Its just not a fair comparison between different races.

So for the same quali time you get a 5-10 second head start in a low split.
Counting since the starting line pass of course.

Secondly if it was based on total time a lot of top drivers would intentionally lower there dr so they can start on pole and don't have to race people to get the best time possible
This is a good point , but bot for the few wanting to participate the top 24.

According to your system though, the tanking method will yield the most points that are required to participate in the Top 24

And it's not like the people who have a chance at the Top 24 will lose their S rank if they tank their DR

But this isn't the actual problem. Even if your system supposedly works, it's only for the top minority. The majority will be very negatively affected by this

1. So cars could just wait at the final corner at the start of the race for clean air then cross the s/f line 30 seconds later

2. Top 24 superstars is decided by points only, so lowering dr wouldn't matter
I don't know exactly about all the criterias for Top 24 but in my case i was 3rd in Brasil and 23rd regional before the top 24 race , A+ DR , perhaps i could enter the race but the racing time as the only one available turn it impossible to race anyway.
I did the last and only one available for me considering my real life working time , start in 2d , win the race and earn only 1340 points . If i could choose another stronger room like the 9PM one , even finishing 5 , 6 , or 7th , i could earn more points , thats all i can see and that's why i think it must have another way more fair to sum those points.
I also can choose another region like Europe where all the races are matching with my free time.

Isn't that the point though? You're matched against stronger drivers, so you'll be given more points. Maybe the reason you only got 1340 points that race was because all the other A+/S drivers that are strong enough to raise the points participated in the Top 24 race. As long as you know that you'll always be matched in top split lobbies, 1800-3000 points almost always lie in wait
You also can't attend the Top 24 race because you weren't able to get DR S from last season. If you can get DR S this season by either being in the Top 10 in Brasil or Top 200 in the US region, you'll have a chance to attend the Top 24 races for Season 3

I didn't race the last season for real job reasons , i think i 'll race an EU account in the future but it will take a long time that i don't have to build a good DR ...... or wait patiently the next one with an S in my pocket.
Anyway , this point system is still a mess in my opinion , what about a 1 hour hotlap qualifying time for any players during the long days between the races , an hour that you could slice the way you want , anyday , anytime with a countdown till the main race begin. Just like daily races but with an identic qualifying time for everybody to be fair with who don't have so much of this precious time. ???
I'm just trying to throw out an idea .

I would like to see Daily Race style qualifying (aka anytime you want up till the race start) for FIA races, but only if there’s 19 AI opponents at various strengths and speeds spaced irregularly around the track:dopey:

I certainly agree with your idea @praiano63 (I suggested the same thing a fair few pages back) the biggest issue with it is the DR tanking to get easy lobbies or smurfing as that will happen and I think that would cause even more issues than the current system :(. Certainly disagree with the weakness that people would get more aggressive in races as it's the same principle e.g. If I get past him I get 200 extra points etc. In fact it might induce the opposite of not much racing as people prefer to be in a train to get a better overall race time which again goes against racing :(. No idea what the best solution is but a few pages back some good ideas from various people.

Yeah also you would probably see people bump drafting throughout the course. For optimal speed and fuel saving. Not very fun in my opinion.

The argument about people being more aggressive is based on the fact that since everyone’s time is being aggregated together, being stuck behind someone isn’t just costing you 1 position, it could be costing you 100. You’re not just losing 200 points, could be 2000. Being behind anyone for any amount of time could lose you any chance at the championship.

But isn't that the same in the current form? If I suddenly went for a dive bomb to try gain 200/400 points I'm more than likely getting a penalty and potentially crashing costing me hundreds if not over 1k points? To me both varieties, in fact all varieties have the same outcome with crazy overtakes, and nobody wants crazy overtakes in any form :P. Don't get me wrong I know what you're saying though in peoples thought processes.

I do think it's biggest weakness and makes it worse than the current format is the SR/DR tanking whatever is needed to get a nice quiet lobby for each drivers relevance or smurfing of course.

Is there any website that allows us to view FIA practice time rankings + car used? Curious how my Viper is stacking up against the EU masters :gtpflag:

I was wondering the same thing and hope PD add this in the future. I think it would be fun benchmarking.

You can open an european and asian account just to check .... or race them too.

If you've raced in a A+ lobby or even a top 24 superstar race, you understand the need for there to be more points awarded. You have to be inch perfect every lap and even then you might only be 9th.

If i was in a lower lobby against people who can't keep it on track and earning the same amount of points it would be a joke.

Continued success in lower lobbies will lead you to being in higher lobbies which I think is a completely fair and reasonable system.

Just had heaps of fun in the manufacturer's race: Tokyo is one of my circuits. Started 8th, finished 8th, but there was a whole lot that went down during the race. As per usual, I managed to keep myself out of the worst of carnage (nothing malicious, just AS drivers giving it their all), and gained a couple of positions at the line. 781 points in the bag.

Now I just need to figure out what is causing ghost feather-touches on my breaks... :boggled:

Question on multiple accounts: When you guys create multiple accounts do you need to pay PS+ another fee to go online for these accounts, or does one PS+ fee work for all accounts on the PS4?

Thanks PD
Kicked out of the race after warm up lap before qualifying :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Can I join the next slot:confused::confused::confused:

Got punted off from 2nd in the Nations Cup race, don't think it was intentional but went from 2nd to 16th. Guess I know what round I'm dropping.

In the manufacturers race got stuck behind a guy lagging the entire race which was ..... not good. Got 7th though and will likely hold down 2nd overall for Lexus in Asia region!

Summary of the nations race: Qualfied poorly, raced badly.

Got rear ended early on and had to take avoiding action more than once but I also made a mistake which cost a place or two so it just wasn't a great race.

On a positive note the goal was to beat my worst result so far which was 600 or so points and I managed around 700 today - so yey for me. Except that I only picked up those points because a number of players gave up on racing and decided mow the grass around Brands instead. Seriously though players were all over the place and this was supposedly an A+/S lobby.

I seriously hope this will be the case in my lobby... I'm seriously down on points right now

So how is the manufacturer race going to go with it being a highway track? I forsee alot of bumping/raming/wall riding lol. Anybody had a chance to do it yet?
