I had an idea yesterday, what if you could enter as many races as you wanted to but by entering a race you would forfeit your points from the last race? In my mind that would still benefit the guys who got a dc (well, can't get worse than 0 points right?) and make the others who scored 800+ think twice about trying again.

This is a great idea my friend. If they do decide to keep this new format then this should definitely be implemented. Otherwise everyone will be running every single slot for the sake of gaining a place or two, which could prevent those with less practice from getting a decent result at all.
Another possible solution would be to limit the total number of attempts per event, or just post the first finished result.
Either way, some tweaks are definitely needed. Racing just isn't the same without that element of risk/reward :(

Is that not exactly how it is supposed to be? Less practice = Less results...

I think it's more problematic when you know how the race works after the 1st time (for example the thrill of doing 1 only race is that you have to look out on what strategy to make, you can bin it or succesfuly do it) so you'll be having a mix of racers who already did a FIA race with others that haven't.
At least that's what i'm seeing.

Also you can't practice on lobbies with the FIA settings (for no reason, really) because they put Tyre Wear over 10 and you can't test that.

How about this for an idea: players are allowed to enter a maximum of two races. If they get terribly unlucky in their first race, they get a second chance to get some decent points. However, if they choose to enter that second race, they forfeit their points from the first race, per @Espial idea. That way, people trying to bank their points from the first race and then be more aggressive in subsequent races won’t be able to do that, they’ll still have to be careful and experience that pressure.

I’m not actually sure there is a perfect solution, since there are some things that can’t both be solved, like giving unlucky people a second chance while also preventing people doing a second race from having experience the experience of their first race.

I agree 100% . Why not , make a pool to see if it Mr Kaz show some interest to this excelent idea.

I had the same thought yesterday. It still addresses the disconnect issue they're trying to resolve without removing the high stakes of FIA racing.

That’s a pretty decent idea, I especially don’t like the fact you can keep going with no risk and the best result counts.

The other solution maybe if they insist on letting everyone enter every round is to average the points instead of best result count. So if you do three races and get 2000, 1000 and 750 your points would be 1250. The more races you enter the bigger the risk.

There was some serious competition in the EU Nations Cup races today. The level was, quite frankly, the same as EU Top 24 Superstars races. The first half of the grid was pretty much inseparable. Only the loss of slipstream separated the field. @Tidgney (for his lack of practice) and @TRL LIGHTNING (except for the last race slot ;)) drove superbly

Cheers mate :D! Ye I did 1 race in each in the end! Questionable driver in the manufacturers, I was actually meant to do 2 nations and 1 manufacturers but a blue screen just before the matching in the first, then a go back to lobby one in the 2nd meant only 1 run. Racing everyone who had done 3,4,5 races I was stunned to get on pole and just happy to make top 4 in a lobby that nuts! Very little practice before hand maybe totalling an hour including testing other cars and without any full race stint checks I was pleased :D!

Maybe a few updates ago this was the case.

Lobbies can go up to 30x Fuel/Tire deg now. I just checked.

Also when i actually did Manufacturers, I would do test races with different fuel or tire strats to get what I thought was optimal, that way I only had to focus on spatial awareness.

I am puzzled to see so many opposed to multiple tries. I am new to the FIA races. And wouldn't have even thought about entering without the multiple tries.

Had my first race yesterday and I had no idea what was going on. I thought free practice was qualifying. So I drove around during qualifying thinking that was warm up until qualifying times start showing up. And my vision ain't so good so it took a while to read that light yellow font.

You may check @kie25 stream from yesterday FIA races. @4h:29m you will see what the questionable driver did to get rid of his penalties without losing much time.

Please tell us what he did! Nothing in that stream/video showed conclusively what he did. Just because we "think" he/she was cheating doesn't make it so.

Keith.

The perfect solution is just one chance for everyone, like any competitive sport. PD shouldn't be even testing this stupid idea of multiple entries.

Forfeiting your points from the previous race would make things a bit more fair, but it'd still be a huge disadvantage for those who can't race more than once a night. And for me it's not just about not having enough time to race. I like the tension of having just one chance. It adds a bit of seriousness to the race, which makes them much more fun than the weekly races. But it's also exhausting and I feel I need a break after a tense race. I probably wouldn't race all night even if I could.

My one race at Manufacturer's yesterday was ok, but I'm sure I'd do much better if I could try again. Had to do a slow and careful qualy lap after receiving a penalty, almost 2 secs behind my normal time at that circuit, and also used the strategy of minimizing risks to score some decent points. I'd be much more aggressive if I knew I could have another go.

Another issue would be the points structure, I registered to all 5 with the same free practice time, and the total variance between lowest high score and highest high score was about 650 Points difference. If they are to make it 1 shot only again, they need to sort the matchmaking to "close the gaps".

Matchmaking is done through SR and DR, free practice times are just for fun for FIA races.

Here's my FIA Nation's Cup race. I was thinking about using the R8 as well as the cockpit view just for fun. Overall i was 5,5 sec slower than my fastest time done with the bumper cam ^^
Bellof was on fire at that day lol

I was happy with my pace until I saw this post

Hm, I didn't know that, I am 3/4 full B DR, and I was racing mostly A, A+ and S in the events along with a few B's which we're always the same 3, therefore I assumed we we're matched because of our close free practice times.

I didn´t say he was cheating. It just shows how you can get rid of a 5s penalty without losing more than 1-1,5s (what happened in the EMEA manufactures race on the stream and @Tidgney was wondering in his stream IIRC). Whether its a cheat a bug or a feature, it should be sorted out cause I think penalty zones are not supposed to work this way :odd:

Okay then, explain what the people who get unfairly DC’ed either mid race or before the race, especially when they’re in a high position, are supposed to do?

Exactly. I was in the Manu race and got disconnected on lap 8. Lost 1000 DR. Hardly any way to regain that!

Oh wow i stand corrected then, that is helpful now

If the disconnection happens before the qualifying sessions, like in 90% of the time, give them the chance to enter the next race. If mid race, accept the "mechanical failure" and consider it one of the races that will be discarded from the total sum of points for the championship later.

I would like to see one chance for everyone too, but PD needs to eliminate problems that give people unfair disadvantages in order for that to happen. It’s not good having things like disconnections, especially in important races like Top 24 races.

Like I said, I don’t think there’s a perfect solution; a system that allows multiple attempts in order to solve problems with bad luck will provide advantages for people with more time and take away some ofthe excitement. I think it’s a matter of what solution is the most acceptable for everyone.

Except that’s incredibly stupid, especially if one is leading in a race where points are higher than the amount they currently have total and would increase their ranking.

Well, this incredibly stupid idea has been the rule for GTS and any real life motorsport forever. PD's idea on the other hand is something new that has no parallels in real world competition.

It's part of the thrill of any sport. You can have an injury, your car can fail when you are leading, accidents, rain, safety car, bad luck... a lot of things can happen. Disconnection problem mid race is not too common anyway and multiple tries will cause much more harm than benefit to users.

You can't have multiple tries for Top 24 race obviously. One possible solution for those would be splitting this race into 3 or more races, in different days, and count only the 2 best results to minimize bad luck. Would be great if they were separate events in different dates, so the whole community could watch the races live on YT instead of racing themselves.

I'd buy that for a dollar! :)

Disconnections =/= crashing out of a race. Considering there are multiple people who failed to qualify for the regionals due to multiple disconnections, these arguments against the idea of multiple attempts don’t even make sense. The two aren’t even remotely close.

That’s actually an interesting solution that might work, I’d be all for being on the spectating end of something like that. I was thinking of something like a mini-version of my overall solution for the FIA races: there are two Top 24 races, let’s say one each on the normal race days of Wednesday and Saturday. A player can compete in both, but if they compete in the second one, they have to forefeit their points from the first.

While I was thinking about this stuff, I came up with a partial solution for the problem of people gaining experience by doing multiple races, even if they forefeit their points. How about, for each time slot, the race uses the same car or type of cars, but the track changes? This would at least partially solve some of the added experience problem. The same couple go for the Top 24 races, there would be a different track for each race. I’m sure there are some problems with this idea that I haven’t thought of yet, but it’s just something to think about.

Seeing that I don't have the time on Wednesdays to run multiple slots, the ability to do so puts people like me at a disadvantage. Thankfully, I at least can be on equal footing on Saturdays but I feel for those that don't have that luxury.

Got bit hard in the Nations race because of lack of practice and eating up my tires like crazy.

Really bad start for Manu but I recovered the best I could.

You're right about the benefits of multiple attempts. This was my second attempt at Nation's and my tire management was definitely better than the first go. I actually had to do a 2-stop on the first race and dropped 3 spots because of it. But this time I knew to stick to slow-in, fast-out and square my corner exits. The extra practice definitely paid off...
I would've been in trouble if you had managed your rubber better in the first stint though!

That 5-second penalty got me 🤬 up... LOL gr though
