Qualify on the softest compound then come in for a pit stop after you set your best lap and switch to the hardest, then it’ll automatically start your race off on the hardest, then switch to the softer ones once their cooked, I normally do 12 laps hard, 7 laps softer and gain time in the slip streams cos i’m on the quicker tyre towards the end.

I qualified on the medium compound, switched to the hard tyres for the 1st stint and switched to the medium for end. I saw a lot of people start on the medium and stay on it after the pit stop. I finished on the podium in both races because of it.

Well this week certainly had its ups and downs. It was good to get right back into things without having to wait indefinitely for another season to start (what happened to November?). I was definitely looking at getting stuck into the RedBull Ring for Round 1 in my new Aston Martin, having switched from McLaren, and decked out in a stunning AMR livery, complete with 007 logo. That was until I saw the available tire options, and the weather - cue the Bond theme. Almost every commentator here on the forums had suggested they did not think the online races were ready for wet weather, given the often poor sportsmanship and lack of skill on display in the points races. Obviously the developers had other ideas. Having practiced with the S2000 in the time trials, I was at least moderately confident of completing the race, and perhaps not coming last. However I ended up qualifying 15th and progressed up to 10th, before slipping off the track and falling back to 15th. I ended up 12th, and was proud that I'd managed to not hit anyone, and avoided any major accidents, which is usually an achievement in the dry let alone the pouring rain. Nations however was simply a straight up struggle - I tried the classic 'no-stopper' tactic, however the tires were just too worn by the end, and I ended up at the back of the field where I had qualified.

One thing has certainly become apparent - Polyphony Digital must have taken on board the feedback from players that the Sport Mode is too repetitive, with the races too short and not allowing time for a proper race strategy, and always being held on the same tracks. So far we've had wet weather in Austria, and then onto Interlagos for a 19 Lap race - possibly the longest online point race in GT Sport so far. The fuel and tire consumption seemed to have been tweaked to a more realistic level, yet still provide enough of a challenge. It's always a good thing to have developers take on board criticism, and use it to constantly improve their products.

Thankfully Interlagos was dry, and having planned ahead I put in plenty of practice in those conditions. Not that it paid off straight away; qualifying on hard tires, I qualified dead last. But at least I was ready for turn 1, unlike those players who qualify on mediums then switch back before the race starts, and wonder why they don't hit the right apex. What I wasn't ready for however was a "glitch" on the grid, where the 9th placed Aston Martin was jittering wildly all over the track during the grid presentation, and was stuck in place for most of the race, with the rolling start coming to a halt behind them. I pounced, and went from 18th to 10th, with only a 1 second penalty awarded for what must have been interpreted as a hit on the driver, yet there was no collision. Somehow that same driver ended up 2nd overall. I slowly made my way up the grid, peaking at about 5th, before pitting on lap 12, and falling back to around 10th. Even on a fuel limiter of 2, I was still able to catch up to the field, crossing the line in 8th. Had I come off the limiter earlier, I could have gone even higher - I still had over a lap of fuel left. And yet I still ended up in 7th - what many players failed to notice was another change to the online Sport Mode races, the introduction of the tire requirement. Interlagos was the first round to feature a specified tire, with all racers required to use Hard tires at least once during the race, or face a time penalty. The second placed driver ended up falling to 6th, and several others lost their positions as a result of sticking to medium tires. Just another example of how it always pays to read the fine print

I love the NSX GR3 almost any track but not at interlagos. It try to kill me everytime entering Senna's S. Poor top speed too, i'll wait the next event , i'll not repeat tonight. Nation in Brasil was cool , only top guys in the room. Very hot event but fair, It was fun.

You're not alone regarding the Senna S, I drive the NSX too and it's definetely a weak spot for me. Getting back on the throttle lightly on entry should help to maintain some traction but it can still get slippery.

1645 with Mitsubishi. Really happy.
Did 1496 on Nations first slot but I'm gonna try again. Wish me luck

Edit: 1616 points and a win for nations second slot

My results for today. Nations race went well. I was closing in on 2nd towards the end but couldn’t get close enough for it to matter. In Manufactures, I jumped from 11th to 8th thanks to several people forgetting the mandatory hard tires.

Only had time to do the first Manufacturers race tonight (decided to skip Nations altogether).

In the end, the race went ok. I got a great tow on qualy and managed to steal 3rd, which was a bit above my expectations and overall pace (not much practice for this one). Made a mistake on turn 4 and lost a couple of positions, but managed to crawl back a bit and pit with the leaders.

For the first pitstop, I decided to risk it and went for the hard tires a bit of fuel, a big mistake. Ended up bunched up and knocked around by a few guys, losing over 15s in the process.

Recovered a bit later on and ended in 7th. I'm happy, though I feel I could've managed a top 5 finish in that lobby.

Really loving these longer races and it has blown the strategy doors wide open. I notice people are also a lot less desperate in terms of making marginal moves because they have 2x race distance to do so compared to before. The revised slot times though, not so much. Third slot is way too late for me so I'll have to make do with second slot, which means I will be at the tail end of top split DR wise and no chance to score any meaningful points. I've been bleeding DR in the last 4 races, so might as well drop it a bit more and go into second split. I mean it's exhibition and it doesn't matter in the end, but there's nothing more demoralising than driving at the best of your ability only to get 100-200 points.

Manufacturer wise, I planned to try every Gr.4 drivetrain this year. I've done Merc (FR), Ferrari (MR) and Mitsu (4WD). So the choices for FF are Audi/Pug/Renault/VW. I can't drive the R8 to save my life, so Audi is out. After last season getting passed by everyone on the straights in Mitsu there's no way I'm going with similarly slow Renault. VW would be the most logical choice, but it's too boring, so I'm joining the Pug meme train :p Chose the VGT instead of RCZ because we have quite a few high power tracks coming up but man, it's a huge shock as it has completely different strengths and weaknesses than the Evo Gr.3. Definitely will need a couple of races to adjust my driving style. The rain race wasn't fun at all because of its huge torque I was practically drifting every corner  Using TCS isn't much help because it bogs the car down too much (anything under 5000 rpm and you're going nowhere in this car). Fun times ahead.

Well the race didn't go too bad considering! Decent lobby, all A with a couple of S

Qualified ok, 6th with only one real flying run, chose to start on hard tyres and after a poor couple of corners losing two places I also chose not to bother braking for Juncao at the end of the first lap. Went down to 17th or 18th, put my plan into action of stopping on 8/13 - that changed to 8/14 as I had enough fuel that a little bit of saving on the infield section would get me the extra lap and I ended up finishing 9th. Had good pace overall though, plenty of overtakes and finished top Aston just behind an Alfa that finished 2nd on track but didn't use the hard tyres. Definitely a podium in there soon!

Managed 9th on my 2nd attempt at Nations, not sure if I gained any points. Either way, Had some terrible moves by one of the TTG guys and then I had a nose inside someone going into the infield and as I braked to let them keep the spot, so did they and turned across my nose, spinning them out. I let off the let them have the spot back but got rear ended so had no choice but to keep going. I tell you what, some of these top split drivers need to chill out a bit.

One last try at Interlagos and no matter what happens I'm done for the night. And I'm going to think long and hard about continuing this anyway considering I am racing with people that I am no match for.

Edit: Actually, I'm done.

Pretty fun nations cup race for me. Finished 3rd overall but was 2nd most of the race... I really did not need to pit 3 times. Could have had second if I didn't. ah well. Took alot of time to get decent at blue moon and finished well because of it.

Sitting out interlagos. Just not enough seat time there to bother since only 5 races make up the final score..

I actually ended up giving it a shot. I could not seem to get under 1:33 in qualifying but finished 13th in the race with a really easy going strategy.

Good times

Rant: People that crawl around the track trying to burn fuel during qualifying are super annoying. Always getting in the way.
I agree 100% , this is a real plague , i've aborted 3 fast laps today because of this during my 5 races till now. PD need to fix this urgently , no consumption for qualif. Or just for 10 minutes

S-FR Concept Cup again in N300. *yawn* Passing on that one this time.

Ikr, they should just make it one make series.

There's so many interesting car/class combinations in the game but I've never seen any class other than N300 or N500 for FIA. It's exhibition series so they have nothing to lose by doing weird combos. C'mon PD, don't be scared of being creative.

The problem is people who aren't aware of their position on track and don't keep an eye on the minimap. I fuel burn but never tangled or got in the way of anyone. Also, if everyone fuel burns then this also won't be an issue.

The real solution is as you said just take fuel out for quali or allow us to set fuel level before going out. I don't know how many drivers have complained to PD during world tours but it's pretty bad for them not to fix this yet.

Good luck to everyone at Manu tonight. I signed with Honda and just could not get the NSX to act right at Interlagos, despite a decent amount of practice. Spun out 3 times during qualifying. Rage quit and took the “zero” - for the first time.

Until PD do something about it. The solution is to burn fuel yourself, easier to manage a gap too.

I'm confused how crawling around at redline to burn fuel, actually works better than just doing laps at full tilt. Makes no sense.

Qualified 2nd ended up 4th yet again.
All was going perfect than I get hit after making the first pit :banghead:
thought i’d only taken 7th but when I crossed the line I got 4th, I guess they got penalties.

well, I wasn't sure what would happen tonight, as recently I've been placed in higher lobbies than I'm used to.

Normally I'm in A/S S/S lobbies that have a maximum of 1600-1700 points for the win, but tonight I've been in lobbies that had 2020 - 2200 points for the win.

First nations went diabolical, I started 6th on Hards hoping to get them out the way early, but of course I was getting swamped, and some guy went down the inside and binned me off... Finished about 14th i think with around 780 points.

Wasn't sure whether I should risk joining the second Nations slot, but I thought F it, why not... & pretty much the same group with 2000 points for the win again. Somehow I qualified 3rd , raced and took 2nd, but lost 2nd on strategy in the pits, and kept 3rd to take around 1800 points, most ive ever had so that was great.

As for Manufacturers (Nissan) I wasn't expecting much, the first one I qualifed 18th and finished 18th with 220 points in a dreadful race, with 2,200 points for the win again.

Went in again in the second slot, and had the weirdest qualifying ever, with tonnes of glitch **** going on... but managed to started 16th and battle to 11th I think, so came away with around 1000 points, so was happy with that considering how much I wsa struggling with the Nissan at Brazil.

All in all, a good night, love the new format.

Especially with it being exhibition, should be about PD providing the cars rather than garage cars.

You crawl at redline and ride the brakes. Fuel consumption is much much higher than doing laps at full tilt. Just try it yourself if you don't believe me 👍

Everyone at top split EMEA always fuel burns because of how competitive that region is. But even in top split Oceania I only see maybe 2-3 drivers fuel burn. Granted it won't magically get you pole every race, but for the tight midpack it gives you easy few tenths extra it's such a waste not to do it.

Tire Requirement was in effect, specified type was Hard, so you needed to use hard tires at least once. Several drivers in my race made that mistake, I guess they didn't read the rule changes in the season announcement

Yeah I need to check the replay.
A time penalty or straight position swap??? If it’s the former, it should be a DNF so the guys below me benefited.
