I don't normally rant about the penalty system, but man the last 2 races rankled so much I just have to vent here. I've done 400+ races, rarely get penalties but when I do I think it's been quite deserved (or even if not, I can sorta see why the game thinks I deserve it and move on). Twice now I've been divebombed on the inside, the person passed and I had to overbrake to avoid going off track and I am the one who got a penalty for colliding. Does the game think I'm trying to block them or what? It's like adding insult to injury.

Scenario 1(last season Gr.3 at Laguna)
- Going up to the corkscrew, the car ahead made a mistake in the fast left hander so I was gaining and pulled up alongside into the braking zone (he was on the right, I'm on the left)
- We both braked at around the same time, both cars are level at this point and I would've came out ahead due to being on the inside for the first left
- Another car from about 2-3 car lengths back (with fresher tyres than both of us) just completely dived on the inside of me (remember I still have the other car I was overtaking on my right)
- He gave me a tap and passed ahead. I braked extra because of the tap to avoid spearing off track and/or hitting the car on my right
- Went thru the corkscrew, no tyres on the dirt, no contact with the car on my right and got slapped with 3 second penalty for "colliding with another car"

Scenario 2 (current race Roadster T at RBR)
- Final lap going into T3 (the downhill tight hairpin), I was gaining on the car ahead (he had to save fuel whereas I had saved too much in the early part of the race and was now much faster on the straight)
- He went defensive on the inside (pretty much hugged the inside road completely, making his corner radius too tight potentially and I could just drive round the outside of him)
- I went to his left side to pin him and avoid him going wide and opening up the corner (no contact at this point)
- I braked a bit earlier than usual (because I'm on a tighter line), he also braked at the same point as me (which is too late because of how tight his radius is relative to mine)
- I turned in and gave one car space on the apex. Next thing I know, I was sliding straight towards the dirt (yup, my right door was being used as his brake)
- Now admittedly, my mistake is I left the MFD showing Fuel Map and forgot to switch to Radar in this situation. Otherwise I would just keep my car straight a bit longer and cutback.
- Had to go back full on brakes again and managed to keep it on track. Just. He slid off ahead of me a bit more and got on the outside kerb (tells you how much overspeed he had).
- I cutback and passed him while he recovered, and voila 1 second penalty for (you guessed it) "colliding with another car". He wasn't that far back so just passed me again on the penalty zone. Didn't wait, no apologies after the race and that was that.

Sorry for the rant but if anything, hopefully people can learn from this and avoid getting a penalty in similar situations 👍

Now I'm off to Kyalami in ACC to reset my mind for tomorrow's race

Yeah, the penalty thing was absurd. The car ahead of me, got 1 second for passing the car that ghost-slid across the track in FRONT of him! I think the player was Cody or something like that. Ridiculous.

About "racing", yeah, I had Six7 behind me and you ahead, but it wasn't happening for me. Maybe tomorrow's Manu. I did notice times getting faster as tyre pressures normalised and came up to temp. ;

Hard to choose a Manu after a 3 month break. Have been with Ferrari, Citroën, BMW, Ford, but didn't drive much for the last two. Considering Mazda, Porsche, VW. Not a fan of the Supra so Toyota probably out. Are Nissan still good? Always found hairpins a mare in them but they powered down straights considering it's a brick and I won my last race in one at Monza before winter hibernation. I'm using a controller. I'm never going to a world tour so what matters more is consistency than all out meta.

Finally got my livery done for Gr 4. Hopefully not everyone will be racing Nations tonight so I can get a practice race in for Spa.

I got a two-second penalty on the last corner because a throbber who'd just served another penalty lunged up the inside of me, smacked into my door, and then punted the guy in front off.

At which point the guy who got punted off starts calling me a "********* driver"... after driving in close quarters with him all race and literally not touching him even once. Not that I should have been there, as I also got punted off on lap two.

Started 4th, finished 5th. Timed my fuel saving perfectly to have 1.3 laps left at the start of lap 11, so held off the Frenchman behind me. Had some good, close racing pretty much the whole way through. Probably could have challenged for a podium if I had any consistency, and wasn't terrified of the kerbs and track limits. All in, not bad considering I started practicing at half three.

I'm getting swamped at the start by people who - as well as being unable to slow the car down on CS tyres - have no idea that they need to save fuel. I end up in front of them because they all pit on lap 8, but by that point I'm 12s down on first from all the hitting.

Still, it's a good combo and I've gained 1,300DR from it in two races Might risk a third

I usually never race a FIA event more than once, because I think that's a pretty dumb thing for a "sim", but I'll might just break that principle for once...

Your DR is ~10k higher than mine and only one person pitted in my race (on lap 8 I think, with 7 litres left)

Yeah I saw he managed to go down to A in SR, must have been some hit he gave you. Better luck next time.

Nations @ Red Bull Ring
Not the best round, but hardly a disaster either. Can't say I was keen on this coming into it after practicing in public lobbies. Also a little bored with Mazda-based one-makes. They seem overly common lately considering how many other cars they could use. Maybe this would been more exciting with the originally intended settings; the Roadster just feels like a heavy lump with BOP on.

I knew I was capable of a decent laptime here, but I am far from consistent. Qualifying was frustrating. I left a gap to the driver in front on my outlap, which had all but disappeared by the top of the hill after he went wide and rejoined right in front of me.

He continued going wide and rejoining straight away onto the racing line throughout the lap which really slowed me down, until I finally saw an opportunity to get past on the last turn. Unfortunately that compromised the start of my second flying lap and I ended up starting P12. The other guy started almost at the back.

The start of the race was rough. I managed to avoid hitting the car in front of me into turn 1 only for the car behind me to punt me into it and then force his way up the inside. At the straight at the top of the hill, I almost got pushed off when we were 3-wide (me on the right) and the car on the left decides he wants the middle of the track. Almost spun the guy in the middle out having to turn left to stay on the track. It was the guy who punted me on turn 1 though, so not feeling too guilty about it.

I ended up managing to work my way up to P7 in the end. My highlight of the race was turn 1 on lap 8, where I managed a clean double overtake as they compromised each other from fighting.

92 points is still a good result by my standards though, so I'll chalk it up as a decent banker round to start the season and run!

Was home just in time for the 9pm (8pm UK) race, so no practice for me. Initially planned this race as practice and have the last race as a second option.

Messed up Qualifying, only P15.
In the first laps I pretty much stayed in that spot and it wasn't until lap 7 I first gained a spot to P14 and then two more as there were penalties given in front, so I was in P12.
In lap 8 I had a go at another driver and should've got him, but as he tried to defend from the car behind him he hit me on the rear which caused me to lose speed and as a result I fell to P15 shortly.
Two of the drivers got together though and I got to P13 almost immediately again. Someone else ran out of fuel so P12.
We were a group of three and there was another group of three battling in front. We were gaining on them so going into the final lap I was in P12 but had 5 cars directly in front of me. Of course I was hoping for carnage in front of me
And that did happen more or less. In turn 2 someone was crashed out by a dirty Russian, in turn 3 another one spun out with a penalty for a third person. Was able to overtake someone as well so I finished P8. That was good enough to not try again as I didn't want to risk the 219 points I gained. That's a good basis for the rest of the pre season.

Made two attempts at the MX-5 Nations race following a string of fun and promising practice lobbies. Entered with the prospect of some close, clean racing and sub-1:57 lap times, but unfortunately they didn't quite turn out as I had hoped:

Qualifying was compromised early on when an Italian passed me towards the end of my first flying lap. This was after he had served a track limits penalty earlier on in the lap, and he continued to fight for track position on the second lap even after getting loose on the exit of Remus. Could only salvage a 1:58.145 after making up for lost ground in the third sector, putting me in 14th.

Briefly gained one place at the start during a tentative but clean battle with a Greek driver, but got mobbed at the start of Lap 4 while trying not to go over the kerbs through turn 8. Slowly climbed back up the order while avoiding a spate of incidents up front, including one on the same lap where the Italian from before spun out a fellow British entry at Schlossgold. More battles ensued, along with a self-inflicted penalty for running wide at the first corner. Set a personal fastest lap of 1:56.432, just under four-tenths off the fastest I did in a practice lobby the night before. Took advantage of a couple more penalties and mistakes on the final tour, finishing 12th on the timesheets and picking up 151 points. Not an ideal start, but at least the pace and racecraft seemed to be there.

Set myself a new personal best FP time of 1:55.997 during my interval, which brought hopes of better results for the 18:40. Met more familiar faces and enjoyed a much better qualifying run, setting a 1:56.906 before completely overcooking my entry through Niki Lauda Kurve. When the inevitable penalty showed up, I pulled off at Remus and again on the approach to Schlossgold, as I thought there was no point carrying on and getting in other people's way. Felt really pleased with my original lap anyway, which was good enough for 7th on the grid and an opportunity to build on my improving form.

That opportunity, however, was not to last. After getting involved in a scrap for sixth in the opening moments, I ended up being forced part-way into the gravel at Schlossgold by the Russian on my inside. A spate of mistakes, smooth and not-so-smooth passes followed, and the Apex Mazda is languishing in 15th and half-a-lap short on fuel. The frustrating decline continued, only tempered by an opportunistic pass at Remus. Another 0.5 second penalty sends me further to the back, as does a botched pass on a fellow Brit on Lap 6. Though he had turned across my front bumper going into Remus, I felt partially responsible for not reacting quickly enough to his sudden turning, so backed out immediately and tumbled to last. On Lap 7, I make a solid pass at the final corner and gain a better run on the Brit on the start-finish straight. Regrettably, I made the mistake of trying to out-brake him going into Niki Lauda Kurve, neglecting that the Spaniard in 17th had already braked much earlier for the apex. Had to cut across the infield grass to avoid collecting the Spaniard, again with the assistance of the Brit as he suddenly turns into my left-hand side.

I honestly don't know what I was thinking that time. It was inevitable that I would gain some kind of punishment, but not for cutting the Niki Lauda Kurve. Instead, a four-second penalty was dished out for the contact between me and my compatriot, which in hindsight might have saved me and the Spaniard from a much worse incident. That being said, I couldn't care any less about the race at this point. It felt soul-crushing enough as it was to tumble down the order while trying to keep clean and frugal, but even more so now that I was trailing in last place and had twice committed to moves that turned out to be unworkable. Somehow, I kept going, getting a couple of good laps and passes while catching up to a train for what was at one point 8th. Half-way through the final lap, the Brit from earlier pulls over and eases off going into Schlossgold, which I realised later on was an apologetic gesture (along with a comment he made in chat afterwards). Another two places gained before Rindt (both resulting from penalties further up the road), and the Apex Roadster finally comes home in 15th for 113 points.

To put it simply, yesterday was not my day. Had my fair share of issues in both lobbies whether it be of my own making or otherwise. Felt like I could've done better in what I believed to be an appealing Nations combo, but still had flashes of pace and a decent share of close battles, especially in the first meeting. Hoping for better luck in the main season.

And just as I suspected, I got MURDERED in my first ever race as an A+ driver. My first indication of being in trouble was getting assigned car #17. I went from spending all of the last season racing against low-mid A-rank drivers, to being thrust into what I'm fairly certain was the top split for tonight's Nations race. The driver with the 3rd-fastest time in North America was in this race. I actually qualified semi-decently in 13th, but I got bullied hard when I tried to avoid running into the cars in front of me, and before the lap was over I was 19th. I eventually finished 16th with 111 points. The points total is actually only slightly worse than what I would normally get in last season's Nations Cup, and the fight from 15th-19th was actually pretty close for the whole race, but it is a little tempting to try to tank my DR back down to A, since the only reason I'm even here is because I LOVE Yamagiwa and was therefore abnormally quick compared to my usual performance in the Daily races last week. We'll see how tomorrow's Manufacturer's race goes since I'm more comfortable there than I am at RBR on Comfort tires...

Welp. Had to do an early pit because someone behind connected with me and forced me to slide. Came out in traffic with five cars battling. Yeesh!

Had switched to the RMs and those players were running long.

Pit again for RS and added .5 laps of fuel. Pit again Lap 9 for RS and 1.7 laps of fuel. Passed the Blood Pack at the back again. Brought it home for 14th, after starting 8th.

On to Fuji.

First time posting my overview of a FIA race - it would be my second season that I participate in(got the game just somewhere in october or november last year and I did not entered seriously in the races until the last season). I want to treat this a bit serious and be motivated so every season I will set objectives.

I am coming after a decent last season - where my objectives were top40 in Austrian leaderboards and top200 for my manufacturer of choice: Porsche. I started the season somewhere around 12.000 DR, and during the season i climbed up to range 20k-25k which really helped my points. End of season found me on P35 in Austria, but only 236th for Porsche - so objectives only partial achieved. Highlights of the season - the victory in Nations Cup in GR1 Race at Tokio(my only FIA Race Victory) and a 2nd place in Manu at DragonTail Gardens.

Now starting the season at 23k DR - this season objectives will be more ambitious. In Nations Cup I am targeting a big improvement and hope to finish the season in the top20 in Austria. For Manufacturers I chose Ferrari for this PreSeason - and objective would be to get in top150. Bonus objective - get to DR A until the end of the season. I will miss for sure the last round races - as I have a Berlin trip planned for that weekend, but it should not be an issue as Nurb GP is my weakest track and I am not that strong at Laggo Maggiore GP.

First Nations Cup race was a success - I am good usually at RedBull Ring(one of the few tracks where I can get my laptimes in 2 seconds range from the aliens). As the car was enjoyable to drive, I hoped for a top5 but after matching was done i thought it might be an issue - as I was door number 20 in the lobby(in 1st slot of the day).

Quali went very well, and I started the race 3rd. I was a bit afraid of the first two corners in a tight group and I was maybe a bit too cautios, and the first half of the race i spent saving fuel in 5 and 6th positions. Top4 cars were having a much higher pace then the group I was in, and they pulled out a big gap ahead.

At the beginning of lap 8 - car in P5 make a mistake in T1 and spins, can't avoid it, I am pushed on to the grass but I managed to keep the car pointing to the right direction. I get for a few seconds in P5 and then I am relegated again in P6, as the car behind has a higher speed. End of lap 8, top 4 cars are all in the pits for fuel(no fuel saving, reason that they where a lot faster than us), and only the leader manage to exit the pits in front of us with 2 seconds gap. I am in 3rd position, 2s off the leader and right in the tail of the car in front of me, with a big 5 cars group just behind. I decide I will play it safe, with no risky manuevers and try to mantain the 3rd place.

In the 10th lap the car in 4th closes up, we have a short battle during sector 2 of the circuit, but I keep my lines well and I give no ground. He takes on turn a bit too fast, gets in the runoff area and he is slapped with a 0.5s penalty. Last lap is without incidents, leader is 1.5s ahead, and me just in the tail of the 2nd placed car. There is no mistake in place and I finish 3rd and gain 103 points and 1300 DR for my effort. Good start - decide to take the points.

Standings after 1st round: 13th in Austria, 3rd in my region(Vienna) and 652th in Europe.

For Manu race today - again I am targeting a top5, as SPA is a good match for me. The GR4 Ferrari seems to be a nice car, so I think and hope for a good result.

For Nations 2nd round, I need to do some time trial laps at Brands Hatch to decide which car I will go. I am thinking about 911, as this is my "safest" car and is a good match for the circuit, but I want to test also some others.

Decided to go for Mazda this season. The gr.4 car feels so incredibly stable. I do have to work on my pace, also it seems I can brake quite a bit later in these cars than I'm used to. Currently on a 26.1 hot lapping on Spa, so there's definitely some laptime to be gained before the races tonight.

I know there are some Mazda drivers itt. What is your aim in terms of a QT?

Yeah I noticed the front tires just degrading insanely fast on my out lap in a test run, ah well good practice for tire management I guess.

So the 4C is the discerning gentlemen's strategy car of choice.

Shocker of a qual put me down in 17th. Started on M and paced myself through the stint, short shifting every shift even if it meant I might have been standing still on the straights. Pitted lap 7, by which I was gobbling up anyone that tried to go long. I always take a tad more fuel than implied by the HUD so I can be confident I can go full revs to the line. Took softs, came out 9th. As the others tyres dropped off I was cutting through like Albon at this very circuit last year. Took 5th running out of gas on the line.

Even on a bad day I'll take going up 12 spots and 161 points.

Very much looking forward to playing the long game this season with the Alfa.
