2nd attempt qualified 12th, finished 10th, clean race from my perspective.
Try my luck on the final race and put a lot of laps in on medium tyres to get them close to soft lap times. Qualifying didn't go quite to plan, 12th.
Then another 🤬 disconnect.

So - expected death of a thousand cuts by Ferrari.

1st slot - absolute perfect qualification on my second flying lap - got a decent slipstream and managed a 1.32.5 for the pole. Starting 1st, I had the wrong idea to start in mediums and in the second lap I binned it at the chicane. Although I was planning to change on Softs in lap 12, lap 5-9 were horrifying and I had another 3 spins and 2 penaltys for hitting the wall. In lap 10 being in P17 - decided I had enough so changed to Softs and put some fuel. Started to push and I was surprised that even after 7 laps I was feeling safer on the dead Softs than on slightly used Mediums. Times were all under 1:34(with a 1.32.8 as the best this stint) - and I managed to finish the race P10. At this point I was frustrated for my horrific 1st half of the race and decided to go again. I was having a very good pace on Softs so I decided to try a two stopper.

2nd slot - absolutely shambles, did not managed to get a lap in quali, so started in P19. I put the mediums, planning to run the first 4 laps and then running on Softs. Made decent progress until P12 in lap 4 - but I got destroyed at the chicane by one AMG with no brakes. To top it up, I was also hit in the hairpin when I was preparing to get into the pits and got stuck pointing in the wrong direction. Bonus points - 1.5s penalty for hitting the wall. To sum it up, I lost about 45s in these incidents so no chance I can get something out of this race. I was dead last more than 35s behind P19, but started to put in good laps on Softs and till the end of the race managed to get to 16th. Without the incidents I would have been 6th...

So 3rd slot - last for today no matter the result. Weak quali, but did not manage to get any slipstream so I start in P9. 1st stint on Mediums managed to climb 1 position, but scrapped a wall right after getting out of the pits and served a 1.5s penalty so I was down to 10. Then, on Softs, started to push and at the end of 2nd stint(lap12) was 5th. Pitted and got out in P10 and again started to push for the last stint. Managed to close a 10s gap and got to 7th, and it could have been 5th if not for a 1.5s penalty in the last lap for scrapping a wall at the hairpin after I slides the rear a bit. In the end, decent result and got 78 points.

After the race, I tried to put some laps for Nations race on Tuesday - but I have no pace. The choice is clear - will be 911, but I just hope I was tired today...

Welp, after qualifying P4, I had my first rage quit in quite sometime.

L1 I get caught up in the carnage at the hairpin. Get punted once going in, again coming out. Now at P17, I fight back as best I can. By L10, I'm in P9. Again the hairpin. This time I'm PIT maneuvered coming out. (Of course no penalty for the rammer.) I end up facing the wrong way on the track. As I try to turn myself around, I get spun around again, this time into a barrier. You guessed it, I get a 1.5 sec penalty for hitting the barrier.

I may run again when i calm down. Being that my DR is absolute dog crap after quitting, I may just be able to run away from the field. Or maybe I'll just hop a flight to Japan and slap Kaz upside the head. I don't know.

In today's race at the Manufacturers Series, I had started 15th and finished 12th. My DR and SR were retained from my latest Nations Cup race, although the former was lowered.

Several hours later, I returned to this round and improved my results over my previous one. I started 9th and finished 5th.

First Manufacturer Series race in a long time, had practiced quite a bit and it paid off. Qualified in P2 and realized early on that the polesitter was slowing me down. Overtook him lap 2 and after the chicane on lap 4 I had a 2 second gap which only grew during the race, finished 13 seconds ahead of P2 in the end. Pitted on lap 11 for mediums and fuel. The Atenza Gr.3 feels good to drive, looking forward to driving it the rest of the season, the Gr.4 car not so much.

1st slot - again one and done for the night!

VICTORY! - back-to-back FIA Manu Series win!

Lobby had DR S/A and some Bs occupying the end half of the grid.

Strategy was 8S-10M, car setup TCS 0 and FM1 for the whole race.

Qualified 3rd and started on Softs. The Pole got a penalty on first lap and I saw myself in second. Battled a Porsche and by lap 3 I was in the lead! - Pitted on lap 8 with a gap of 5secs to spare. Got Mediums on, refueled and back in P6 right behind the same Porsche. - Soon was me in second and the Porsche in first going at it again! Passed him on lap 10 and regained the lead! - Won with a 5 sec lead and no penalties! (the Porsche pitted again!)

Clean battles and fun race! - Good luck to you still battling tonight! 👍

After eating a sandwich, I got my blood sugar to the point that I could deal with the rage of the last race. Manu take 2:

I didn't exactly run away with it. In fact, qualifying was pretty bad as I got blocked on my flying lap. My banker lap was good enough for P7 and there I started. I ran 6M/6S/6S. Luckily, most of the people in front of me weren't all that fast I was able to get up to P4 pretty quickly. I don't remember all the details but I came out of my second pit in P3. I catch up with P2 around lap 14 or 15. I make a couple moves but can't get around him and end up swinging wide in the final turn for a 1.5 sec barrier penalty. I takes another lap to catch him again. On the final lap, he gets a barrier penalty going into the esses. So, my strategy becomes to just stay on his tail and overtake him when he serves the penalty. I'm right up on him into the hairpin, so I go narrow as he goes wide. I don't know if he didn't see me or decided to block late or what but he comes slamming into my nose right as I'm passing the apex. That brings me to a dead stop. Luckily, he got another 1.5 sec penalty for that and I do end up passing him in the penalty zone to finish in P2. P1 was pretty quick and finished 10 sec ahead of me.

Once again, my DR ends up pretty much where it started at the beginning of the day. Looks like I'm destined to hang around 9800K for a while longer.

And this does blunt the anger of the first race a little bit but PD has really got to do something about all of this. I may not make it to the next-gen title if penalty and SR system don't improve in some way.

Watch & learn from the master:

- Hard but fair & clean racing
- Zero contact with other car and walls
- Guy on the inside gives the guy on outside space, and vice versa
- Know when to defend and when to attack
- Know when to give up a corner and tuck behind to get the slipstream for the next straight
- Know that some corners are single file and you can't go side by side (tunnel S, final chicane)
- If you give others respect, others will respect you (i.e. you might lose a position this race, but in future race when the situation are reversed you will thank him for not divebombing you in the final corner)

PD should make all of LIGHTNING's races mandatory viewing instead of the 2 pathetic "sportsmanship" videos we have.

Revert the penalty system to what it was last year.

Heavy damage for all FIA races.

One shot for all FIA races so people actually use their brains before making a move. Disconnected? Well too bad. IRL mechanical failures are part of racing. This is just the esports equivalent of that.

Won't work. Some people will (as they currently do) deliberately wipe out whoever they can when their race goes South. Doesn't matter to them, they will just enter the next round.

Heavy damage will only punish the victims of those incidents.

For Ford in Gr. 3, I picked the GT Test Car. Did the first three race slots and ironically, my worst qualifying ended with me finishing with my best result for the night.

I qualified 17th and I decided to start with the mediums. Starting towards the very back turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I had quite a bit of chaos unfold in front of me starting on lap 2. Several other racers got penalties or got taken out due to the amount of congestion early on in the race. By the time I passed the penalty line, I had jumped up to 10th. And on the 3rd lap, I was in 8th thanks to another two cars that got penalties for hitting the walls too hard.

Fast forward to lap 8, and I'm in 3rd. I decided to pit, switch to the softs and refueled a bit. I come out in 13th but I fortunately decided to pit at the right time, as gradually more and more racers in front of me went to go pit too. Starting on lap 10 or so, I found myself in 6th place between two Lexus drivers. I was stuck with them up until the final lap. However, a bit further up, a Porsche that screwed up on the death chicane collided with the Lexus in front of me while rejoining the track, and they both got taken out.

After this incident, I was in 3rd but then for the first time ever, I ran out of gas closing in on the finish line and lost two positions. Fuel wasn't an issue in my first two attempts, so I think I didn't short shift enough. But I still got myself another top 5 finish, so I'm content with that. :)

I did try Nations once yesterday and it was actually okay. I basically avoided the sausage curbs altogether and somehow got a hard fought P2. I'll get that video up at some point.

Manu, I had the GT-R which I was all but happy to drive. My main concern was slipstream qualifying which easily could've put me well in the back because the entire room was going to hunt me down for tasty draft. Well, let's just say I ended up finding a way to turn the tables.

Anything can happen in Tokyo, for example, I could be fighting for podium in top split.

Crazy intense race, got no slipstream on my qualy lap and started 12th. Kept it clean and took advantage of the chaos that unfolded in front of me. Had an amazing battle with Cardsfan and Hendrix for almost half the race fighting for P3. Fought a little too hard and ran out of gas on the final straight, losing 2 positions to some great drivers. Still a great result for me, but a little bittersweet.

Oh well, just realised that this race will be another Gr.3 Ferrari torture. After time trial testing yesterday was ok, I did an online lobby in the morning.

As soon as you get some tyre wear on the rear(so after 3-4 laps on Softs and about 6 laps on Mediums) the chicane just becomes a matter of luck. Lost the rear 4 times while in 3rd gear(to avoid snaps in 2nd gear). And is again a matter of keeping TC0, more stable during the race, buth higher risk at the chicane or moving to TC1, risky during the race when trying to catch the "normal" ass slides of the 458, but a bit more stable in the chicane - with the mention that if it's gone, it's gone - no chance to catch it with TC1.

Today any decent result will be taken. And by decent I mean everything above 15th.

It is very difficult to drive the Ferrari like any other car. You cannot hit curbs like other cars, you cannot push the limits into corners as the rear likes to step out on sharp brake application. I have found that I need a bit of practice on tricky tracks with chicanes of death to figure out a stable line for the Ferrari to keep both it's rear in check and the tire wear in check. Often it can be using trail braking ever so slightly until the last moment, or braking earlier and then using the throttle only a little to keep the rear balanced.

Those techniques combined with being gentle on the brakes into the big braking zones meant I was able to keep my soft tires alive for 9 laps and mediums would have been able to be pushed out to 14 or so, yet the strategy encouraged me to pit at lap 9 so I never got to push them as far as I could. Had my first race gone my way, I would have been on pace for a win, as it was I was in a battle for 2nd with a GTR. My second race I was also pushing for a win but messed up the chicane twice then ran out of fuel....ended 5th. The car is capable, it is just very tricky to get the maximum out of it, but so satisfying when you do.

Well that's the point of the single shot rule. You can't enter the next round. Yes it sucks to be the victim, but after 2-3 events of doing the same the dirty driver will get tired of seeing three big fat 0s on his leaderboard and will either have to clean up his act, or just leave the game. It's gonna be a shock to the system for the first few rounds, but hopefully in the long run the player pool will clean up considerably. Knowing PD though, player quantity>quality for them so I have almost zero expectation of seeing this implemented.

They could've tried "hardcore" format during exhibition seasons with nothing to lose, but instead they choose to play russian roulette with the penalty system and hand out retries like candies during halloween. People are literally going into the first race of the night with a throwaway mindset and using it as a gauge to see how far they can push the penalty system. Those of us still trying to race cleanly are the stupid ones for not taking advantage. Honestly, it's just a very unpleasant environment to race in.

I am doing the "throttle trick" during hard braking and move the BB all the way to the front. I really struggle with the Medium and Hard tires compounds after I get a bit of wear(after 4 laps for example in the race yesterday) but on the Softs I can push all the way for long - yesterday "very safe" threshold was 7 laps where my lap times did not go over 1.33.7(with a best of 1.32.8) in clean air. After that, I would have the occasional slide here and there, but nothing that I can't manage. On the Mediums, after 4 laps was already dangerous for me(especially in that first race, without knowing what to expect and been really forced to push as I was leading the race). Thing is, I am a bit torn now, I really like the car when it does not try to kill me so I am tempted to keep with Ferrari in the official season also. On the other hand, when I remember Interlagos(and I do really try to forget it) my option would be to change manufacturer.

I remember an Interlagos race in Ferrari a year or two back, I was punted a few times into long sideways slides and after that the soft tyres just wouldn't hold on round the corners, they just wanted to let go at lower and lower throttle and steering inputs. It felt like driving on ice. You have to be so careful with tyres, but I love the sound of the 458 in GTS and the way the car rewards skill and a delicate touch.

Last night for me in the Porsche was odd. I qualified quite low but did very well first stint on Medium tyres, staying ahead of people regardless of tyre choice, pushing it out to the wall with accelerator and full lock, getting the apex and power on at the right time for most of the lap, braking late for the final chicane and carrying speed through it. No penalties and moved up to top 10 before first pit stop.

Great, it'll be even better on the Soft's I thought, knowing some had used theirs already unless they were 2 stopping which could also see a time advantage for me too. Cue every single thing that could go wrong. Hitting barriers, getting 4 or 5 barrier penalties in 2 or so laps as I tried to push the softs and squeeze more out of them, and then low speed corner exits meant losing speed on every straight. This then got me caught in a pack of 4 or 5 and ended up being a pinball at the pit hairpin, followed with a 6 second penalty as I tried to block two punters from passing (not my best moment, but really frustrated by this point). After those laps of madness I was left on my own to limp around near the back, and since it's not my favourite circuit I didn't want to have another race. Surprised I didn't lose more DR and SR, but onwards and upwards for the next race.

What a mess that was last night, I either messed up Qually or started on the wrong tires every single race I think. Combine that with the draft and the penalty system and things got even worse pretty quickly. 5 hours, 4 races and umpteen penalties later, the best I could muster was a 9th place finish for 163 points. What a brutal night!

Anyone on team Alfa will appreciate Tuesday's race at Lago Maggiore which seems like the ideal track for the 4C Gr4. Should have far better luck than at Tokyo this past weekend which felt like complete hell for the 4C Gr3. That course/car combo can suck it.

I entered the Manufacturers race at Tokyo last night - big mistake. My G29's throttle pedal potentiometer is intermittently playing up, but I can normally drive around it. Not this time. Qualified 20th and last due to inermittent problems on my fast lap. However, for the first third of the race the problem appeared to have gone away and I progressed from last to 10th within 4 laps. All going well I thought, but no, my throttle pedal had other ideas and there was nothing I could do as my laptimes dropped off a cliff. I finished second from last, only getting up to 17th due to one of the cars in front of me picking up a 20 second penalty.

I've tried cleaning the potentiometer and this rectifies the problem for a week or two at best, but then the issue comes back. Typically, the wheel and pedals are out of warranty. Looks like I need to replace the potentiometer.

So, decision taken - I am not able to put consistent laps at Catalunia, I will skip this race. at my DR level I need at least top 3 to be able to increase my 294 points and I am sure that my DR will take a hit if I try.

Manufacturers cup, it's a race with the Group 4 car so I hope to improve the 78 points from last night.

In the meantime, I will spend this week trying to improve my DR as much as possible - Brands Hatch is a decent track for me in the 911. Hopefully this will raise also my FIA points.
