Just did a Nations A+/S race. The 1st lap was an absolute blood bath. Everyone was kinda careful for turn 1 but the gloves were off after that. The penalty system had a field day with it all, including giving me a 2s penalty for bump drafting someone

Qualified 12th and finished 14th. Relieved to keep my SR intact :boggled:
Just about to race the 16:20 and I read this  hopefully things will calm down!

It's the grid start and short run to turn 1 that keeps everything tightly packed. Everyone has a choice. Leave each other space or use it as an opportunity to gain some positions. I know which choice my fellow racers made!

Good luck bud, hope it's a good one!

Hi, just joined up after reading this forum as an observer for a while! Thought I’d give a review of the Nations race I just had. I’m a DR B that only likes to race FIA! I hate choosing the meta car for races so went with the Lambo. :)

Qualified 4th and made it up to 2nd by T1 thanks to people failing at a standing start  3 of us broke away, Lancer leading, me and a Trophy. I lost 2nd to the Trophy but we stayed bumper to bumper. Lancer pitted lap 4 and we pitted lap 5. I got back past the Trophy who Made a mistake on cold tires. Lancer dropped back somewhere. Another Trophy that Hadn’t pitted was now leading. He didn’t pit until lap 8!! He came out the pits just behind me so I was leading. He got past me on the final lap with his fresher tires to win by 1.5 seconds.

In the lobby after he told me not to feel bad as he was really an A+ driver from Canada driving under a U.K. flag on a second account!

Missed the entry by about 30 seconds :dunce: still I'm gonna use the time between now and the next slot to practice the tire wear. Cheers bud

How on earth do you guys find braking points for the Mulsanne chicanes??? Any meaningful landmarks on the Mulsanne are usually waaaaay before any braking zones. The cones (if you have them turned on) always get knocked down since they're on the actual track here, plus in the Gr. 3 cars, by the time you see the braking cones, it's too late to stop for the chicane anyway. The distance boards are so high up and so tiny that you have to ignore literally everything else around you just to focus on the boards and hope you don't miss them, so relying on them is a great way to slam into the back of someone because you have to take your eyes completely off the road to see the boards. The ones at the 2nd chicane are easier to see, but the ones at the 1st chicane you either miss completely and blow the chicane, or think you've missed them and brake way too early.

Use the little red indicated on the HUD that flashed which gear you need to change down to, start braking just after it starts flashing. Try not to rely on the cones, although they are useful if you are new to a track.

I broke down and turned on the cones at least for practice... will try to learn them without the cones on before the race tomorrow.

Just rage quited on 1st lap... I can not understand how people can be so stupid... Q9, race starts someone spinns off hitting my back and I spin too, after some idiot serves his penalty I pass him, he unghost and divebombs me... For all of that I get 7s prnaltys... I try only one more, PD fix penaltys and ban idiots!

Cones for the first one and usually a shadow on the second one. The brake boards and nye on impossible to see at speed.

So, @05XR8 race report got me really curious about the possibility of a 2-stopper for Nations. I found yesterday that the Gr 4 Lancer was my best combination of speed v tire wear but I was really unhappy with the 5th lap on both tire compounds. I made a lobby and tried 10 laps with a variety of pit strats and found some interesting results.

In the Lancer, at least, the effect of fuel weight is substantial over the course of the race. When I started on softs and ended on mediums, I could match my early RS times with late RM laps. Which got me really curious as to what that would mean for late lap tire degradation for the softs.

Basically, for me, a 2M/4S/4S was almost 6 sec faster than a 4S/4S/2M. Seriously. And the latter was still a bit faster than either 1-stopper I tried (5M/5S and 4M/6S) without the added danger of sliding off the track when the tires started to die.

I never would've considered a 2-stopper in this race without that post, so thank you!

There is a photographer standing next to the track on the left side, brake just before you come to him.

One of the things I love about GTS, the photographers never move.

I always like the idea of the harder tires at the start, because the first lap is a write-off anyway, with regard to pace... you're just trying to avoid trouble and not give up any spot, driving defensively and not for optimal lap times. When in doubt, I go that route. I think it especially makes sense if you are double-stinting the softs as you suggested.

I used to just rely on the flashing gear indicator in previous GT games, but for some reason I haven't been able to properly rely on it in GT Sport, so I ended up just using the cones and braking boards. Once I learn a track I typically don't use the cones exclusively, but I still keep them on because they're basically just extra distance boards. Plus most tracks don't have all their braking zones conveniently located next to an easy-to-spot feature like a curb, runoff, or a landmark outside the track bounds, so the cones help when other markers don't work.

Lol I've never turned them off. I just ignore them if there are other obvious landmarks to use.

I'll try to look for him tonight.

First time poster.. Long time racer..

What an absolute joke that Nations race was.. Special mention to DonJuan_78 wherever he may be for turning it into a banger race as I fought my way through the field on Soft tyres with 2 to go. Oh the level of rage that gives me along with the nightmare penalty system. No good for blood pressure

Second try even worse, idiot blocking in qual so started 17th and he 20... I got enough for today, now Im so angry... I dont play to be angry, so why people are so stupid... Are their lives are so miserable that they enter GTS to just ruin others mood, so everybody feel how they feel? I hope they go to hell... Good luck to everyone who going to race today!

I have to say I feel a bit better that lots of people are getting the same 🤬 show that I had to deal with in Nations, but not cool that so many people are having races ruined by muppets. I would like it if my race was the outlier and the one off, not what is becoming the norm.

While I should feel better that I wasn't the only one, I don't wish those types of races on anyone else. Please also remember to try amd finish the race! Mine looked hopeless with more than 8 seconds to the back of the field at one point, with pit strategies and other people including the muppets crashing, spinning and getting penalties I made it back to p11 of 19. Not the points I thought I could get after a solid qualifying session, but way better than a quit.

What happened to gr4 Nurb GP?
It seems it turned into a bloodbath months ago every race, but I am gonna enter up anyways, not Mustang but in the real tight line master, the real Megane. If things get rough it’s a bump and run specialist and it loves being inside...
I’m not going in expecting much...
How many pit stops are most making?
Are most people using soft or med?

First one you brake just after the orange guy behind the barrier

Second one there's a shadow on the road from the trees, just after the last of that there's a small discoloured patch on the road, brake there (although I find myself going later and later at this one as I'm practicing)

Soft & Med are both required. I'm doing 2 stops unless my next lobby race tells me different.

Nations - rd 6

My car of choice was Porsche. Although I drive in Manufacturer's for Alfa,it is the 2nd race where the Meta is the Alfa and I ride with Porsche because I can be more consistent with it on some tracks.

1st slot - put a 2.04.2 in quali to start in P8. Messed up the braking in T1 and went to cut it so I get a reset - not to ruin everyone else's race. Then I had the messiest race I have ever seen - I was punted 5 times into the gravel - once when I was exiting the pits on the exit lane. Finished P18.

2nd slot - Start in P7, navigated up to P3 after T1 and hoped to get a good race. Got punted in T2 and then in lap 3 was punted again off track. At the end of the lap I parked it in the pits...

3rd slot - I decided to give it another go - last one. Qualified in P6 with a 2.03.8 - started good in T1, but even I got out of the way of the "hit train" I was still punted in the right hander and spin. Dead last and 5s behind 19th. I was on mediums and started putting clean laps - caught up in 1.5 laps with the cars in front. As a lot of fights were happening I was able to gain positions and I was P9 when I got into the pits end of lap5. I got out in P11, gained 3 positions next lap when the cars in front pitted and then had some clean air and put clean laps. At the end of lap8 I was in P6, 3.5s from the cars in front. They were fighting - I was able to close the gap but it was too late to make a move. P6 and 130P.
