Just after the white line on the left goes from solid to dashed, but yh it’s a ***** that one to get right that one, I think the trick is don’t turn in too early as you risk running wide and/or spinning. You want the car as straight as soon as possible and then just plant it.
 
Going to be an interesting race. Had a speed lap for about 12th, clipped a curb and got a penalty. Guess who is starting 19th now? Yay!!!

On the other hand it helps if I know I should be able to pass others, just grumpy about having to start past 2 chicanes just to reach the start line and try to fight way up to midfield.:crazy:

No fuel saving needed. Just for the love of whatever is holy don't lose the slipstream. Short shoft a touch when behind someone, like @05XR8 said do a little coasting on some braking and turns as well. Still had 0.4 or so left.

Get a legal qualifying lap and bump draft if you have to instead of passing and losing the slipstream. Not a bad race, but got a couple of annoying track limit penalties, and coming from the back I couldn't afford them. Also ended up spending a large chunk of the race stuck with people who wanted to race there and then, no vision of catching the group ahead. Just got slowly sucked back. Finished p13, but would easily have been top 10 if I started where I qualified. But after people ahead lost the slipstream to the lead group it was a battle for p11, and my penalties just made it too far for me. Lots of people are running RM for 6 laps and pitting so beware. The guy who wasted most of my time battling for 4 laps pitted end of lap 6:banghead::banghead:

Nürburgring. What a lovely place to be. Weather is always changing and will turn bad when you absolutely don't need it. To be honest, I don't like this track, even after 100 laps on it, something feels wrong about the rythm. Better be watching races there!

Got two slots yesterday.

Race 1

Tried multiple cars, the RCZ was the fastest, got a managable time with the Lancer but I was still too slow compared to my friend list. Felt not comfortable with them, so I went the grand lady of Group 4:

Qualifying was fair but slow. Started 18th and with the medium tires. Stayed 6 laps on them and get some momentum on the soft ones. A bit of fight towards the end of the race and I crossed the line with the only RWD car in the field as 13th.

Race 2

Was not happy with RCZ and Lancer, so I wanted to test the 4C.

Car is incredible agile, lot's of fun! Qualyfing resulted in P15. I'm a good starter and went on P9 after T3, but then things got worse. T5 ended in the gravel, as I got victim of the bowling ball physics, caused by a Meganè which divebombed the whole field. Back on track I got bumbs, bombs and pushes, resullting in 15th overall. I must admit I have lost again joy in the FIA races...

P2 was about 11 seconds ahead. Me, the Jag(finished 7th) and the F1 were stuck like glue from about Lap 4.
I got a run on the Jag and stayed in my lane. The F1 had been bump drafting me for a couple laps. So, I mess up at the second chicane. They both motor forward. I catch up, as the Jag is struggling.

Then, the Jag goes wide at the final turn. F1 pulls away and I move to 3rd.
I catch the F1 and we pull away from the Jag. Coming to end of Lap 6, the leader pits with "M" tyres. I'm thinking, "What the heck?". Next, the F1 pits! It's has the "M" tyres as well! No WAY!

Other cars tour the pit with "M" tyre too! P2 exits pits and I maintain that gap for the last lap. Pulling away out of turns.

P2 posts that he thought I had Meds still on because of my corner exit speed. I just typed "Took it easy".

Before the start, someone posted, "Remember to use Mediums". I already knew the requirements, but I still went back to the tyre requirements and it only reads "H". I think that threw players.

Anyway, the track limits are finicky. Looked like everyone behaved. Good stuff.

Had a really good run in the Viper. Sarthe is probably my strongest circuit, practice time is in the top 30 in AU/NZ so pretty stoked. Match with usuals, but I think I could have been competitive with a higher split for more points.

Qual 3rd, start was nice and easy on the hards. Pit for Ms after 2 laps and go on a charge. Get FL lap by a second with no draft and end up catching lead pack, effectively making up a pitstop as they were all race H and M/H runners. Win because pace over hard runners, M/H guy pitted and 1st was a wally that went the whole thing on mediums.

So 1 try and a nice 169 points. All smiles.

The FIA season is cleaved into three 10-race blocks. Nations Cup is a case of driving whatever you fancy, or are given, for that race, while Manufacturer Series requires you to drive one Gr.4 car and one Gr.3 car from a manufacturer that you choose at the start and are locked into until the end of all 30 races - this year there will be a chance to change manufacturer after the first block of ten races, because there's a new Gr.3 car available then, but you will lose all points you have accumulated in the first ten races in the Manufacturer Series (unless you switch from Mazda to Mazda; don't ask).

Each event runs on two days each week. For 2020 these are:
Nations Cup - Tuesday, Saturday
Manufacturer Series - Wednesday, Saturday

There are four races for each event on each day it runs, unless you are in Europe. You may enter as many of them as you wish however only the last race you participate in counts towards your points score.

After the ten rounds, your best three round scores are added up to give you a total. The top players in the Nations Cup, with certain limits on how many from each region and country, would then qualify for the Nations Cup, while the three top players at each manufacturer from across the five regions would qualify for the Manufacturer Series if their manufacturer qualifies in the top 16 worldwide. These finals would be held at World Tour events, with one for each block of ten races, while the top players from across the 30 races (by the best ten scores) would qualify for the World Final.

However, this year it looks rather like the World Tours and World Final will now not take place - due to... well, you-know-what.

Yes. You will often see these referred to as "meta" - short for "most effective tactic available".

Some cars simply suit some tracks - and some races - better than others. Tracks with long straights and not many bends are suited to powerful cars with long gears. Twisty tracks are suited to agile cars with less weight.

You'll probably spot that all the qualifying times for Gr.4 Nations this Tuesday are the front-wheel drive cars. That's because they have the least amount of weight and plenty of power. But as soon as you add tyre wear into the mix, they're in trouble because they have half the tyre life, or worse, of some of the other Gr.4 cars.

That will probably lead to less powerful but similarly light cars, and mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, being the car of choice. The Alfa Romeo 4C used to be a favourite, but it's a bit more skittish recently. You might see a Porsche Cayman, or a Toyota GT86 (front-engined, I know, but it's usually up there). You will definitely see a lot of Megane Trophy V6s; they're basically Gr.3 cars (spaceframe chassis, silhouette body, quasi-production engine) but shoehorned into Gr.4 for some reason, and they're light, tyre-friendly, have high downforce, and the best brakes in the class. They're also horrifyingly slow on the straights, so at somewhere like Monza they'd be hopeless. Nurburgring has a couple of faster sections they might struggle at, but they're a safe bet.

The concept of meta cars makes Manufacturer Series tricky, because you're locked in to just two cars - one in Gr.4, one in Gr.3. In essence you really need to pick your brand by its Gr.3 car and ignore the Gr.4 car; if the Gr.4 car can pick you up some points, great, but the variety of drivetrains, power, weight and so on make it incredibly hard to pick a car that's never crap. With Gr.3 it's basically mid- or front-engine - the cars ought to be pretty close in power and weight, but there are still sometimes cars that are just better at some tracks...

thanks this is really helpful. I have a question for the points you score in each race. is it just say 10 points for a race win = 3 wins 30 points and the that’s the best from the 10 rounds (I can’t imagine this is the case) or are the points based on lap times, consistency, penalties etc

The points are based on the average driver rating of all the drivers in a lobby. You can check your driver rating, along with other stats, by entering your PSN name here: https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?profile=search

Broadly speaking, the total amount of points available in a given lobby is about 1/20th of the mean Driver Rating (DR) of the people in that lobby, with 10% going to the winner, and reducing by about 0.5% evenly with each place behind that.

If everyone in your lobby has a DR 10,000, the mean DR is 10,000, the total number of points is about 500, and the winner will get 50, second gets 48, third gets 45, and so on. If you're all at 20,000, the winner will get 100. Roughly - it's actually a little less than that, but that's the broad strokes.

That means that if you're a brand new driver in a lobby full of brand new drivers, you can get literally one point for a win. If you're a top-ranked, World Tour finalist, facing a bunch of top-ranked, World Tour finalists, then you'll be seeing almost 500 points for a win (once everyone hits that new 100,000 DR limit).

To get more points you need to get your DR up and keep your SR maxed out, because the matchmaking system uses your SR first and then tries to put you with people with a DR as close as possible to yours.

I don’t know if this chart is still relevant since the DR cap increase, but it was helpful before anyways. :)

Just finished the manufacturers cup race...

cut a corner in the last sector and lap was not count lol gotta start from the last place

luckily corvette has incredible straight line speed and able to finish in p8 eventually. Now rest a while and ready for the next session. Hope I won’t cut the corner again :banghead:

Yes, the proportions have all stayed the same, just the DR cap is higher - you should still get one 208th of the mean lobby DR if you win.

No, I don't know why it's 1/208 :lol:

2 disconnects on Nations tonight. One on lap 6, the other on lap 9. I’ve never had disconnects that late in a race before. Bummer. Will try one more time at 10:20.

The 10:20 race worked without any problems, and I finished 3rd which was much better than I was doing in the two races that got disconnected! Turned out to be a fun race :)

I got the usual ******** track limits penalty at Dunlop on lap... 4, I think? The cars ahead had penalties and I could have caught them then and got closer to the leaders sooner, but I think if they'd all stayed on I would have just finished behind them.

Famine is currently still shouting at people in the chat, if you're wondering.

Did I understand it that you did Quali on Hard tires and then did the race on Hard from start to finish ?

Every time I had a car alongside me anywhere, they just turned in on me like I wasn't actually there. Then a prick in a Renault RS01 just straight up murdered me in Ford Chicanes (no penalty, of course), and I got a 1s penalty for a guy in a 458 who missed the first chicane and then drove right across the track from the apex of the left-handed part of it into me.

Qualified 9th with, got the 7th fastest lap in the race. Finished... crapteenth, all from people just driving into me. The Renault quit the race as well :rolleyes:

Nations went weird. Got a penalty on each of the first two laps, and forgot my tire strategy, so I think I ended up going 7M/3S, when I think I wanted to go 6M/4S. Ultimately, my results were Q13/P8, with two positions being gained from a couple knuckleheads gaining penalties and being forced to slow down in the penalty zone before the hairpin, and another somehow being gained when crossing the finish - somebody must’ve forgotten to change tires. Eh, I’ll take it, considering that I gained 88 points, and I’m now 7th in my state as a result. I think I could’ve done better if I tried the 2220 entry that would’ve been after the 2100 entry I took, but I was a bit tired, and wasn’t too interested in risking a worse result. Especially seeing how many people screwed up with T1.

Also, my time was usually about 2:05 in the 4C, but I saw a 4C in the top ten free practice times with a time of 2:00.xxx, so I’m wondering if my time was relatively normal.
