Haven't been that high in more than a year, so I'm happy :D

P.S. I'm suppose to be third, but leader pit for some reason

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20200519233851.jpg

Was distracted during quali so just missed the slipstream train (I was in it for 1 straight but then lost it again) and qualified relatively far down. Unfortunately the midpack decided to become a warzone and battle at every opportunity and the top 6 had pulled away by lap 3. It did calm down eventually and the pace in the midpack was pretty good tbf, I was barely keeping up, we did start to close up to the leaders but it was too little too late. In the end it was a top 10 just from avoiding carnage so could've been worse I guess

What a disaster. I did the qualifying but felt I had moved my wheel slightly so loosened it to make a quick adjustment. When the race started I had no steering and drifted off towards the pit wall (a wire had obviouslycome out). In trying to quickly quit I paused and the autopilot took over and threw me right back onto the racing line leaving the people behind no time to react. I'm genuinely so gutted for them. If any of them are reading, I'm really sorry.

So, as you might have seen earlier in this thread, I decided to have a crack at the MX-5 race as it was one of the few combos from this stage I was looking forward to. And boy did I deliver...

16:20 Nations
Met @watto79 along with Lucas Ordonez for the second time in three races. Qualifying was hampered very early on by traffic and needing to slot in behind faster cars. There were also some dodgy manoeuvres up front on my first lap which I won't delve into, but there was promise in that I set purple first sectors on both my second and third attempts. Alas, that was the best I could do, as I get passed on the inside by a Spaniard and held up as he tries to fight an orange and black Italian. The latter scrap cost me a good chance to improve on my 1:25.121, which left me down in 15th. Only eight-tenths covering the first 18 drivers; who knows where I might have started without the traffic issues I encountered.

Shortly after the intro played, there was a longer pause than usual, almost a minute and a half after the theme ended. I thought for a moment that I had been disconnected, or that the game or my PS4 had crashed, but held out just to see if it was a temporary network issue. Sure enough, the grid sequence starts and I see from the top of my screen that there is a massive gap where 11th-13th should normally be. Three drivers clearly couldn't hold out the delay, which promoted me to 12th as I furiously burnt fuel on the start line.

My focus then was to try and get close enough to the Martini-liveried Czech driver so we could slipstream our way towards the Top 10, but this turned out to be far from the case. Things started to get sour on Lap 2 when the Italian goes wide at Turn 4 and a blue Spaniard serves a penalty. At this point, I was satisfied just to get into the top 10, but didn't anticipate the Italian and a German driver squeezing past me at the hairpin when I believed there was no space for them to go through. Though I apologised later (as I do) in case they thought I had turned in on purpose, that move annoyed me greatly as it suddenly put me back into the centre of the tail end scrap that was developing. The ensuing laps were rough, to say the least, with bumps, dives and offs aplenty from everyone around me. By the end of Lap 3, the top 10 had disappeared up the road...

Stayed within the group for 12th, which gave me a good idea on how things were going for the gaggle up front. On Lap 8, a big incident at Turn 4 unfolds; the yellow Frenchman runs onto the grass after going wide the previous corner, the Italian picks up one of many penalties for what I assume is contact with a blue Brit who I'm following. There's contact between the three cars which sends the Brit spinning into my path and forces me to back out behind the Italian who pitched him sideways. The Italian gives the Frenchman an angry punt going into the hairpin, doubling his penalty to 2 seconds. Did get a good slipstream battle for 13th with a Polish driver, which ultimately allowed us to catch up with another Frenchman in a white and black-striped MX-5; it turned out that he himself had been spun out of the leading pack the previous lap.

Unfortunately, the subsequent battle between them allowed the Italian to catch up and take the Frenchman out with his trademark dive-bomb at the hairpin. Lost 14th to the Falken-liveried Brit, but then decided to let the yellow Frenchman past at turn 1 so he could have a chance of leading me to the pack again. He and the orange Italian picked up yet another penalty each, and it was during this time that the Spaniard in 2nd suddenly dropped out of front-running contention following an incident before the final turn. Said Spaniard unghosts right in front of the yellow Frenchman, doubling his penalty and allowing me to regain two places down the straight. Got close to the bumper of the Falken Brit on the final lap, but not enough to get any better than 13th and 135 points.

I don't know which is worse; another poor run in the MX-5s, or the scrappiness of the bottom-7 pack in general. The test lobby I had yesterday with mostly Japanese players was far cleaner and more enjoyable than that. Even some of the moves Watto saw at his end looked questionable after watching them through my replay. Ah well, the only way is up... or so they say.

19:00 Nations
For the second run, I chose the 19:00 lobby, where I was greeted by @T_revisio along with a couple of faces from the 16:20. Despite a clumsy bit of driving on my part - where I biffed a Polish driver through the double left-hander on my outlap - qualifying was more satisfying. Stuck to the tail of a Dutch driver who I recognised from other FIA and test lobbies, clocking in a 1:24.892, 1:24.514 and 1:24.554 on each of my fliers. Pole was a 1:23.753; the second lap I did was just over seven-and-a-half tenths off for 14th. Not much improvement on paper, but inside I already felt like I was significantly faster than in the 16:20.

And in a way, this was how the race turned out. Full grid, fuel burn to 98% on the grid, get up to 13th before being hung out to dry by the chasing pack. Dropped to the back, though in this case I think that decline was down to me and me only. Eventually started climbing back up the order, taking advantage of a scuffle between T_revisio and the Polish driver from earlier along with a retirement for the 11th-placed Portuguese runner. It gets to the stage where me and my Apex Motor Oil MX-5 are engaged in a fierce fight for 12th, and so it is that I end up following the Dutch driver once again while he fights a Greek Supercheap Auto entry. A PTR Spaniard fights past me on Lap 10 after serving a penalty earlier on, and his attempt to push the Dutchman wide at Turn 1 gives me the chance to try a pass at Turn 2. I have the inside, but this isn't enough for me to get it stuck, so the Dutchman holds his ground... for now.

That being said, we're still on his tail, and on the penultimate lap he ends up punting the Greek driver after he in turn punts the Italian forward. Though I again can't get a move done at Turn 2, the penalty received by the former gifts me 14th and 127 points all the way to the end. Didn't have the momentum to sweep past the Dutchman in time, but came very close even as a Russian spun out over the line.

Both races were scrappy, both lead to more underwhelming results on top of what has so far been an underwhelming Nations run this year - both in the main season and the Exhibition Stage. At the end of the day, however, I'm not going to lose sleep over the 8-point loss I incurred with my retry. Despite once again losing touch with the top 10 early on, I felt far happier with my pace in the 19:00, and the fact that my low starting position was down to others simply doing better. If I hadn't been so eager to get 13th on the first lap, maybe things might have gone a little better, but never mind.

I hope you mean people in my end of the race, rather than moves I made! I don't think I made a single overtake move all race. Just left everyone else to take each other out

It was remarkable that all bar one person got a blue SR from that one. The post race chat was interesting too. I couldn't keep up with it all the insults and accusations flying about.

Couldn't see anything wrong with what you did, Watto; I was speaking entirely about what was happening in front of you. :)

I might quit the championships after this first stage ends if the next stage doesn’t seem interesting. I wish they’d do more experimentation with the eligible cars - like if there was a round where you had to use one of the pickups, or only the Group C cars within Gr.1.

First round of Nations for my region/time zone just finished. I was intimidated because I was door number 20 in the lobby, so I wasn't sure how the points outlook would be.

Qualifying was a mess as everyone was catching up to everyone else and causing chaos. I only got one clean flying lap as I slowed down for the second after I made a mistake at T1 and the group behind me caught up and the third flying lap I made a mistake in T1 and got swarmed again. I qualified 13th, so I wasn't sure how well I'd place in the race. My fastest practice time would've netted me 8th place in qualy.

The race was also messy. P1 ran away, probably laughing at everyone, while despite being 13th, for the first few laps of the race 5th-15th were all in one group. Then the incidents started happening where people were going three or four wide into corners, bundling each other up. I always got the short end of the stick on these as I'd lose 3-4 positions, but I'd made them back up in one-on-one passes, mainly into T1 and T6. There was a fast but very dirty Canadian driver in the lobby who seemed to be trying to pit manuever me on the straight and then divebombed me into T1. Visiting his KudosPrime profile confirms he can't drive cleanly as his DR and SR is a roller coaster. After the race his defense was "everybody was driving like an idiot so I did too," so unfortunately I had one of those racers in the lobby, but at least he finished 17th. Around lap 9 I got back into P9 and a gap emerged between P3-9 and the rest of the field, which let me relax a bit. The drivers in front were clearly faster than me as even though they were fighting a bit I was only just keeping the gap from getting bigger, hovering around 2.5s. On Lap 15 it kicked off though and at the final turn I was at their rear bumper, but I couldn't make anything stick, finishing P9.

I got 137 points, but I'm not sure if I want to run again. It seems like for this race I finished at the upper limit of my skill barring mistakes from myself/others, and like every other Nations race I've been in the dirtiness of the lobby just left a bad taste in my mouth, since, while the dirty Canadian was a highlight, overall people were trying to make passes where room wasn't available and just causing trouble where there didn't need to be any. For some reason none of my Manufacturers races are this bad, and I'm not sure why; possibly because there's more car variety? If I do I think I'll do what I did with Sarthe and just run alone so no one can slow me down/I won't slow anyone else down.

My race went OK. Not fun at all. But it could have been worse.

The penalties on Blue Moon make the race kind of dumb. It's as if the penalties are timed to cause congestion.

Most penalties I saw were for contact. A car picks up a 2 second penalty for hitting another car, after the penalty is served, the 2 cars are side by side again. Most of the time gaps were from cars stuck behind 2 cars fighting. Usually the penalized car swerving and blocking try to hang on to the position.

The race could be a lot smoother if the penalized car was slowed slightly more.

FIA Nations Cup race at Blue Moon Bay, in Spec Miatas:

Went in with an open mind... didn't expect to podium but was for sure just going to put in my best laps and try to finish with positive DR and whatever FIA points I could grab in a clean race. Entered a lobby of some familiar PSN ID, with door #12, which was great- meaning any top 10 would likely pay off in DR, and I'd earn reasonable FIA points for 7th or better.

Got punted in last turn in qualifying (really?!?)... and by the pole sitter, on the third lap! Didn't concern me much because I knew anywhere behind 6th or so and I was going to really lay back on first lap anyway, and assumed people would take themselves out.

And they did. I just drove a clean race, 1:27 after 1:27, avoided trouble, and let whatever fell to me be. Worked well with some other patient drivers right behind me (mostly) who had the good sense to see what was happening. Lay off in the turns, don't press anyone, when those people in front bump doors, stay out of it... and then bump draft with the smart people behind me to keep the drafting advantage each lap on the main straight. Dive into T1, apex it at 80mph, mash the gas and do it again. I think I was passed for position once, but otherwise did all the moving up, and was fortunate to have clean racers behind me much of the race.

Ran out of gas right at the finish line, finishing just 0.050 ahead of 9th (after being surprised to see the warning, fumbled with my fuel mix display for a second, eliminating any hopes of catching up to another place or two on the last lap. I also realized on lap 6 or 7 that I somehow had bumped TCS to 1... which both slowed me down and messed up my handling (ironically, nearly caused me to spin in T1 when I had trouble turning the car with the rear end, and overthrottled it... counter-intuitive, but it's true...). I might have been able to stay up and in better position to grab another spot or so, if I had noticed that sooner, but my lap times kept going down after I turned the TCS off, and the rest of the race was pretty clean.

Not a mark on my Miata, except for the rear bumper, from the bump drafting. 8th place, trunkful of DR points, and a decent number of FIA standing points which are so far my 4th best result, which may come in handy.

I thought it was a fun race. A white knuckler really, with the way those cars drive... but made you work for a good result.

you say that you just jumped into race without any practice
yet on coque´s stream you had 8th time amongst his frends for this exact race
what gives?

In my tweet I said no race practice, so I genuinely hadn't done any race practice and was learning on the fly (I hadn't done any qualifying practice either). If I say no practice then I wouldn't have done any practice including time trial. I had done 30 minutes time trial the night before which is why I didn't say I hadn't done any practice :).

After getting disconnected from the first slot I decided to watch Kie's stream. After watching that my main worry was I'd nod off half way through the race. Fortunately I ended up in a lobby of fantastic ridiculousness that was one of the most entertaining races I've been in

Qualified 10th and we had 3 disconnects before the race starts. Unfortunately @VulcanSpirit was on the wrong side of those and left a gap in the field.

My aim was just to keep it clean and watch what happened, hoping to pick up a few places from penalties. Well my fellow racers didn't fail to disappoint. The lead pack were fighting at every corner and there were cars everywhere. On lap 8 I was laughing my ass off as the cars ahead are going 4 wide down the straight.

I just stayed at the back of the lead group all race making sure to not pick up any penalties. Literally letting cars through if they dived up the inside.

Sometimes the lobby makes it easy for you.

This is the lead pack on lap 7 working together to maintain the gap

And I thought it was going to be boring.

Like for the paint :)

Just did my first race in the 3rd slot of the night. The race itself was probably the most fun I've ever had in an FIA race, but qualifying was a complete Fiasco. Think F1 at Monza in 2019, only with NASCAR short track racing mixed in. I was 2nd on the track and couldn't close the gap to the leader to slipstream them before I started my lap, so I parked just before double left-hander, and so did most of the field. When someone did go by me, I tried to follow them, only to have them stop right in front of me on the run to the final corner, ruining the start of both of our laps (which is why I didn't stop there in the first place...). Afterwards, about 7 cars in front of me all forgot it was qualifying and were trying to pass at every corner. End result was I qualfified 14th...

In the race itself, after the field sorted itself out, I was in a 4-way battle for 7th for half the race. I definitely had the pace on the other 3 cars, but not enough to break the slipstream. In the end I finished 10th after getting shuffled to the back of our little pack. It was incredibly fun, but unfortunately the points won't be worth anything. That's not too big of a problem though, because I actually want to go again!

Nations Cup:
Started 6th...finished 6th. Pulled up side by side with someone on the final corner of the 2nd lap, he tried to squeeze me but we both had equal rights to the apex...he turned in on me and went into the wall. A couple of laps later, I got punted off someone on my tail following too closely. Finally, I had a close battle in the last 3 laps where I got pushed off in the final few corners. I couldn't help myself...I caught up with the punter...I tried to resist...I failed...and it felt so good. He was right on my bumper for a nail-biting finish on the final lap...

So at the end of this stage there won’t be a chance to switch manu, right?

Does this mean we stay with this manu for 40 rounds and then the best 10 count at the end?

The way I read it, the act of un-signing and re-signing will wipe your old Manufacturer points. But I doubt we'll know for sure until someone actually does it.

Be glad to be guinea pig if no one knows for sure. Haven't had the game long and just getting started in SM so haven't signed with a manufacturer yet.

Late to the party so not like it's going to "ruin" my season.

Will try to get in tomorrow nights race if I can.

Any decent manufacturer recommendations for a newb getting started?

Had another amazing race in the 4th slot. This time I didn't get tripped up in qualifiying and put the car on pole. Unfortunately my prediction came true after my massive drop in DR in the FIA races last weekend: I ended up in a sub-200 point room (even though my DR went up slightly after my first try at this race). On the bright side, I saw a fellow GTPlanet member, @wedjim, in the race (congrats on the Top 5!). During the actual race, me and the rest of the podium broke away and had a battle for the entire race. I wish I could've saved this race, but I forgot to delete the replay from my previous race, so I had no room for this one. I believe the eventual winner (who started 3rd) ran out of fuel right at the line, but he had just enough of a gap to win by 0.031s over me. 2nd place and 172 points would be my 3rd best points total of this stage (although I expect to score much better at Spa in the Gr. 1 cars, and possibly at the next round at DT Seaside), but I'm tempted to try the last slot and see if I get back into a 200-point race. Decisions, decisions...

Edit: decided to just take the 172 points.

Big question for all you guys who do testing, any special tire strategy to know for Fuji? I don't even think I have driven without the chicane before so just trying to get a heads up for my race tonight. I know some times it really is worth it to do an extra stop for fresh softs.

That must have been some race up front, top 3 cars .19 apart! I think you were on pole and I moved over for you during qualifying, lol. Moving pretty good. My best practice lap was 1.24:8 without a draft, but couldn’t get near it in the crowd even with a draft.
In the race I got bumped around a bit Battling and dropped to 10th At one point, battled the entire race to get back up to 7th, almost losing the draft until 4th, 5th and 6th started swapping positions, which backed them up to me. Passed 5th about 4 turns from the end on lap 15.
Fun race once I got clear of midpack.

congratulations to you on a great race and great pace!

My recommendation for a beginner is Porsche. They're stable, fairly quick and seem to do well on most tracks.

I can't get the softs to do more than 4 laps, so I definitely will be doing a 2-stopper, although the last time we had this combo at an FIA race, I was the only one doing that, and predictably had some poor finishes. I don't remember what the tire wear multiplier was for that race though...

A 1:24.8 was also my best lap in practice. It was kind of tricky to get Turn 1 right when sitting in the slipstream, and the cars were much more loose than in practice, so what you describe makes sense.

You can switch after this stage, buy you'll lose the points you accumulated if you do. And so far it looks like it's going to be only 30 rounds due to the first 10 rounds becoming an exhibition, so it'll probably be best 8 of 30.

It was also um, "eventful" in the midfield.

I was the 5th place car trying to stay in the slipstream of 4th, but it's awful tough when you get lunged at both hairpins by cars that aren't even within 2 tenths, let alone alongside. Not that we had the pace to catch the leaders but it sure didn't help. Oh well, I was door number 18, so finishing 8th is not too shabby.

Hi, I have a question regarding the S rank. In Nations for example, if I finish the 1st stage of the current season (in 2 rounds) in the top10 of my country, would I be eligible? Or will it be only after the whole season ? Thanks :)

Believe it should be after this first 10-round stage, per the GT site:

"As in previous championships, players will be selected for "Star Player" registration at the end of each stage, and Victory Bonuses will be distributed in-game according to the results."

Alrighty then, not that this will be race pace, but being about 1 second off the bottom 10 and 1.6 seconds off P1, ain't too bad.

First session was on the RM. MAybe PD tuned the steering lock. Can't recall the Atenza being this tight, off-throttle, in the slow corners(can any Atenza users conrifms this(*sound of crickets*). On the RS, Atenza doesn't feel much different, but I was chasing my time after the 130R. Not expecting any type of forward result. So, we'll see how long I can last on the Mediums for a couple stints, then Softs for 2-3 laps on the way to the finish.

EDIT: *****REMEMBER, THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE, "TYRE REQUIREMENT: RACING (M) (S)"***** MEANS, BOTH COMPOUNDS MUST BE USED
