Hoping in GT7, PD rethink Manufacturers. Please stick to RWD only. Would at least make it consistent with GR.3/GT3.

I want do Manu, but it's taken its toll me. Too much discrepancy between drivetrains. It's always been, but I'm kind of done.

Let's just say I should've listened to the earlier reports. I finished P18 and P17, respectively. Got bumped, punted and spun around. Probably would've had a decent finish the second race, if I wasn't spun into the mixmaster L12. Not a fun day today.
Rough one! And the foolishness started as soon as the light turned green and T1 was just as bad. The guy that caused you to spin on L12 was on a mission. My heart sank when I saw that. And he just kept on pushin.

Was gunning for a top 5 spot when I had to slow up to save a little fuel. Led to the hoard of death to swoop in and treat my car like a bumper car. How about you just pile in behind me and run my over on the straight than crash myself and others while trying to get around me in the final section. Ended up not being another top 4 race, and maybe I'll run the final race later, but unlikely. When I see a team name in a driver's name tag, I kinda expect a certain extra level of professionalism from them. Maybe that National race was just too short.

I wouldn't say I've actually encountered dirty racers, and if you go back and watch many of the highlight videos here, you'll agree, it's not really dirty racing. Just bad racing. Just too easy to jump in a FIA event and compete.

The "full" Fuji layout is one of my least favorite tracks in the game (Nurb GP and Catalunya are the only tracks I despise more), and while the Gr. 2 cars are fun to drive, I've never had a lot of success with them in actual races. Now that the stage has been set...

Once again, I ran into another GTPlanet member. This time it was @Razgriz2118. I qualified 13th, them 14th. I was actually 0.15s faster than my qualifying time on my last attempt at a flying lap, but then cut Turn 2 and got myself a time penalty...

Anyway, at the start, predictably most of the field died at Turn 1. We both managed to stay on track, and I emerged from Turn 1 in 6th, but the Penalty Lottery gifted me a 1s penalty. After everything (including my penalty) was sorted, @Razgriz2118 was 5th leading a train of us down to 11th, with me in 7th for most of the race. Eventually once everything was said and done both me and @Razgriz2118 made up 8 spots at the end and finished 5th and 6th respectively (mostly thanks to Turn 1, Lap 1), with me being stuck behind the car that finished 4th for several laps and being unable to attempt a pass. I'd been hoping to finally crack 200 points for the 1st time this championship, and...
Gran Turismo®SPORT_20200616202344.jpg

So close it hurts. It's my best points score in either Nations or Manufacturer's so far though, again, despite my disdain for this track and lack of success in these cars. I guess I only do well with Gr. 2 if I have to drive them at a track I hate (like at Catalunya in the 1st stage, where I also finished 5th for 183 points, which is now my 4th best score). *shrug*

Several views of the predictably crazy start from my perspective:

Got a clean Q18/P13 at Fuji tonight. I was in a minority of drivers not using the ‘16 GT-R, too. I did stop for fuel, though, and when I did, I thought I’d put on another set of hards, as well. Not sure if I could’ve or should’ve fiddled with the fuel map in order to try avoiding a pit.

EDIT: I was using the RCF, for what it’s worth.

After reading the race reports from the Oceania/EMEA players here about this race, I was scared going in, but I decided to give it at least one try and see what happens. I was door #19 out of 20 in the lobby, so, at least if I get wiped out I shouldn't lose too much DR. This is the highest points lobby I've ever been in to date at 237 points, so I was nervous. However, @GTWolverine was in the lobby as well, so it was nice to see some fellow GTPlanet members.

Qualifying was uneventful. I was at the end of the pit lane and decided to leave last and see if I could catch any stragglers for their drafts. I ended up not catching anyone as people began playing the "no, after you" game and I decided to just go ahead and set a lap. Luckily, I wasn't towing anyone along, either. My first (and fastest) flying lap granted me 8th position, but at qualifying's end, I was starting 14th. Which, honestly, I was glad about, because it meant there was a lower chance of being wiped out into T1.

At race start, everyone gets off the line well. But into T1, absolute chaos reigned. I braked slightly too late. Luckily, the people ahead were already crashing so I didn't end up hitting anyone, also thanks to @GTWolverine seeing me coming in too hot and holding off on the turn-in. I luckily managed to escape the carnage, including being in a 4-car wide sandwich, in 8th without a penalty. I got slowed up by a GT-R with engine damage which meant I was swarmed into T3, but because I took a cautious, middle line, I kept 7th and ended up getting a nice little gap to the folks behind. At the end of the lap I inherited 5th as people ahead served penalties, and for the next 6 laps, I was just trying to not make mistakes and try to not fall into the clutches of the faster people behind.

Peep the radar when I was in the 4-car wide sandwich:

I forgot to start fuel saving until the beginning of lap 2, so I started shifting even more conservatively than I normally would. That, the people behind me being faster, and some botched corners, meant the group that was behind me that I was towing along caught up at the beginning of Lap 7. I was passed into T1, dropping me to 6th, and in the final sector, @GTWolverine was right on my tail. Coming out of T15, I almost spun as I got a little too happy with the throttle. I rejoined just ahead the pack going down to 11th, but still lost 7th place. 8th and 9th were right behind me. 8th served a penalty and 9th passed me into T1 on L10. I was content on staying in their slipstream to fuel save, but they pitted at the beginning of Lap 11, giving me a lonely 2 laps in 7th place.

I wasn't sure if I would make the no-stop work, so I ended up using a little more fuel, but then I realized I could make it. This was aided by me ending up right behind @GTWolverine coming out of the pits for fuel, giving me a little slipstream boost. I still did end up messing with the fuel map a bit to make sure I would make it to the line, where I ended up passing 6th place who ran out of fuel. Thanks to surviving the T1 carnage and mostly driving well on the no-stopper, I finished 6th, and because I was in a higher points lobby, this meant I gained 187 points, my highest points haul of the season so far.

Definitely not going again lol. Now to see if I want to do Manufacturers tomorrow, since I've never raced on DT Gardens Reverse.

21:00 EDT Nations Cup: Fuji International Speedway

I had been reading the forums all day and was on the fence about wether I would enter this race. I decided that I would because I love the Gr.2 cars and I've taken them around Fuji a few times before.

I take the Motul GT-R '16 just like 14 other racers in my room. We also had one '08 Xanavi GT-R, one '16 NSX, and 3 '16 RC-F's.
I get to the track with 6 on the door and also qualify 6th. I was happy about that since that means I would be on the inside for T1. Off the line, I immediately move to 5th. P1 and P3 also immediately move over to the right so now there are 4 of us on the inside to T1. I get through T1 fine. P2 tapped P1 and pushed them to the outside and picked up 2 penalties (One for the tap and one for spinning him as he tried to recover) for 3 seconds. He also lost the P1 he gained to P4 who benefitted from the bump.

This is what T1 Lap 1 looked like:

20200616222934.jpg

P3 and P4 start squabbling and P3 looses the fight and I get by and also pick up P3 for a moment when P2 serves his penalty. From then on, I alternate between P5 and P8 (mostly P8). P5-P9 were in a nice little pack until lap 9 when I pit in 7th for fuel. I come out the pits and P8-11 just pass me as I come out. I stay within striking distance o them. P10 looses it at Dunlap chicane. P8 pits on lap 10 and keep 9th as someone came out of the pits. The new P8 is starting to struggle and I stay right on their bumper. I pass them on the Dunlop chicane. P7 then pits in lap 12. I am catching up to P6 as it seems he has cooked his tires pretty good so I just keep it steady.

By the end of 13, I am on his bumper as he feigns going to pit but I stay on him. He slides a little on the final left which allows me to take the inside for the final right. I hug the inside as he tries to cut the corner but I am already there and he taps my LF wheel. He backs off and I take the spot. From there its just a drag race to the finish as can't catch me while I have the draft of P5.

Overall, it was a pretty clean race from the view I had. I did not see any malicious bumping or dive bombing. Everyone tried to drive clean and not make any unnecessary moves.

I don't know how many more of these Nations Cup I will be doing. I tried but can't control the Zonda R. I may try the Gr.3 Spa race. I'm skipping Streets if Willow. I don't know about the F1500T-A, we will have to see about that one. The only one I am definitely doing is Gr.1 at Laguna Seca....I love the Gr.1 races!

Based on yours and the other reports, seems possible to climb from the back of field on L1 to a top 10, if you're careful. Hope that's my experience tonight, because I'm all but expecting to either get punted in T1 or lay back so much I may as well (though saving the SR hit if the penalty system gets it wrong, which is the norm). If running a smart and safe race, either in a no-stop fuel saving strategy or even with a splash-and-go, lends itself to a decent finish in the top half of the field, I'm good. Nervous that it isn't as easy as that sounds, though!

Two attempts at the Nations race at Fuji: qualified last and finished 15th in the Nissan and 14th in the Lexus. No-stopper and fuel-only, respectively. No real drama or anyone to blame, just wasn’t on pace. Did get a bogus 3-sec penalty in first race for getting doored in the hairpin, and probably lost a place or two by getting confused about how many laps were left when I pitted (did I complete 11, or have I just started it when I went in the pits? Do I need 4 laps’ worth of fuel or 3? Can I run full rich for last three laps or do I have to conserve it?) but nonetheless was never in contention.

It was true that you could get from last to 9th (I did, in the first race, after laying back on the start) but the penalty killed it and I don’t know if I’d have hung on to the position anyway after burning gas to keep it, instead of saving for my decided no-stop strategy.

Did avoid all T1 carnage, on L1 and throughout. There was a ton of it in the first race. Not much at all in second, though after the grid seemed intent on a clean start there, it seemed for nought as there were some “bold” moves in the hairpin and chicane turn on the rest of the first lap. None of it affected me as I steered clear.

Despite a solid podium in the Gr2 cars at Barcelona, the point and shoot style of driving the cars at Fuji Just doesn’t fit my strengths at all. Could not feel the front end grip at all, and therefore can’t work the back end. Had no pace and burned nearly 1400 DR with the mediocre results. Oh well, on the DTG where I kind of like the track, though I am not sure I’ve got the pace for much better results. But it’s a long one again, so anything can happen.

EDIT/PS: Hi @Zalex ...missed your greeting but it occurred to me afterward that it was probably on account of being a fellow GT Planet guy in our matched race in my second attempt. Looks like you fared a bit better, and did what I was only able to try to accomplish!

That radar look like you were either playing Asteroids or Sky Fox. Bless your heart.

One attempt at Nations with zero practice races under my belt. Didn’t even drive very well, but a lot of other people drove badly and got penalties so I gained 10 positions in a weak top split lobby.

The summary is that some guy ruined my last chance at a good qualy lap by trying to overtake me at T1 and I wasn’t having it. Started 17th.

Avoided and observed A LOT of chaos for the first 2 or 3 laps, which were super intense. Somehow kept it clean and penalty free.

Just kept it on the track for awhile after that. Tried to keep the slip but lost it. Then came out of the pits to witness a little more chaos and somebody in my slip, so I had something to do again for the last few laps.

Pretty fun stuff, but it was a terrible time for some. Points could be better, but I decided not to try that again.

So, I shall definitely be offing someone to night.

@Ashthebash Only made two spots on the last lap. One player binned it and I caught up. The other must have had a big penalty.
The NSX did feel good. I put fresh tyres on Lap 6. Had 52% in the tank. One of the GT-Rs pit same lap, had 55%. I'll go again.

Edit: This makes it look even worse! How the hell did he get Pole position with driving like this!!!

Hah! That was me in the Liquimoly GT-R. I had wondered what the hell the NSX driver was doing, didn't realise they had been rammed into everyone. That was a bit uncalled for, given how it ruined at least two other driver's race and cleared the path for me. Sadly I clipped the green strips on the final turn about Lap 5, and went straight into the wall, with big damage to the car. Pitted early to repair and refuel, managed to claw my way back to about 10th or so.

 I pit because you pit. I saw you made up the spots by staying out of trouble. Pretty much why I slowed next to you, as you race fair.

When I saw that you were a space above me, 20 seconds no doubt, I thought you had a strategy. Anyway, I'll see that player at some point.

I tried to practice Gardens Reverse, but I keep screwing up something every lap. Gardens Reverse just isn’t my track, at least in Gr.3. And since the next 2 Manufacturer races are Gr.4, I’ll be sitting out of Manufacturer until we go to Fuji next Saturday. At least I can focus on Nations and Supra for the time being.

Did slot 3 in OCE, got to top split. Got dumped on the kerb with no space out of turn 2 and that was race over. Top split racecraft, everybody! Dunno why I bothered with this round, yet another garbage combo from PD as usual this stage.

Able to run the last 2 slots in Manu tonight, quallied 3rd in the first one then binned it on the first lap, crawled back up to 7th. I had to stop for tyres though as I was on mediums, they still felt good up until about lap 15. Hards felt fine and didn't need to fuel save in the m6 so going to try no stop this last one I think.

I thought today's race was Dragon Trail Seaside reverse and it's Gardens instead, which is even worse than the 'foward' circuit. Damn, I was looking forward to that!

Never tried that way, and tonight won't be my first time! I simply won't race that
Me neither. I just tried it then and didn't even manage one lap as it's that unenjoyable. I can tolerate the normal version but no way am I sitting here for 3 hours learning the course to get punted off at the first bend.

Well the no stopper was much quicker for me, after qualifying 5th and a bit of first lap shenanigans putting me in 9th I managed to claw a few positions back, then about 3 dropped behind pitting which put me in 2nd where I stayed.

1st was about 10secs up the road which would of been less if I hadn't had a couple of cooked laps .

I'm in a low level lobby (C-Dr, S-Sr). So not sure how no stopping would go in higher lobbies or with other cars but was good with the m6. I did put fuel ratio to 2 for a few laps just to be on the safe side but ended with 1 lap spare and consistent lap times the whole race.

IMG_20200617_201019.jpg

are you drunk?

Only a couple froths deep this evening, but that's standard. Also as I said above I'm not extremely quick haha, higher level lobbies trying to run that 2 seconds or so faster could be a different story..

Disconnected sitting in 5th place after 5 laps. Brilliant!!! Can't wait for the DR to be taken from me again. Every time i get near to finally becoming a DR A i get disconnects. I've resigned myself to be a DR B forever. :grumpy:

Am I going to need to pit for this next Manufacturers Series race at Dragon Trail Gardens?

Hoping in GT7, PD rethink Manufacturers. Please stick to RWD only. Would at least make it consistent with GR.3/GT3.

I want do Manu, but it's taken its toll me. Too much discrepancy between drivetrains. It's always been, but I'm kind of done.

I get what you're saying, but I also disagree. I don't think real-world GT4 has restrictions on drivetrains, and even if it did, I think the diversity of drivetrains makes things interesting, especially since you can't just pick a meta car every time. I actually like being restricted to a certain automaker, as it makes the fields more diverse and not just filled with cars that are "meta" for a given race. Heck, I actually hope the Manufacturers Series expands to other groups aside from Gr.4 and Gr.3, like Gr.2 and even Gr.1. Maybe even the N-Series, as well. I'd really like to see a Gr.2 or Gr.1 race that's filled with the variety of cars that are within each class, rather than just the '16 GT-R and the TS050, respectively.

Maybe they could do something similar to the IMSA Sportscar Championship, where there are some races that have less classes, and some with more of them. Specifically, I know that in IMSA, only some races with have both the GT cars and the prototypes, whereas some will just have the GT cars.

Perhaps there could be separate Manufacturers Series? Like one that only includes automakers with cars in as many groups as possible, one that's just the usual Gr.3 & Gr.4, one that's just the N-Series, one that's just Gr.1, etc. But I suppose that'd be real hard to manage on PD's part, especially if they want to incentivize prizes. Overall, I'd really like to see more championships in GT7, and I really don't think they always need to have real-world prizes. Some could just be a sort of in-between the Daily Races (or its successor) and the FIAGTCs, much like how in Pokemon, there's the ranked battles, the VGCs, and then there are specialized tournaments that may have special rules, but don't offer any big prize like the VGCs do.

I think that's my issue with both the championships and Sport Mode Time Trials in GTS - there's only big, real-world prizes for only the highest-ranking players, without something that's just a tiny bit lower-stakes. Hopefully GT7 will change things for the better, here, like maybe having a semi-casual Mazda Roadsters championship.

I am too slow in this car... should have changed manufacturer when I had the chance (post 4C gr4 nerf).

I didn't lose DR tonight which is about all that can be said.

I haven’t done a Manu race since the Nerf, I’m still pissed that they make BoP changes mid season that cause people to have to switch manu’s, and give up their points to do so. Why even bother if they will just make changes again mid season and you lose all those points you worked so hard and practiced to get?

Somehow finished 12th in Manu. I say somehow, lots of people quit and one guy in a Supra ran out of fuel.

Your Porsches and Mercedeses were doing 17 laps on mediums, which I couldn't do in the GT-R. That coupled with the multi-apex corner being worse turning left than right means... well, waste of time, I guess.

I had no trouble at all running the 17 laps on M's in the sim I ran (in my 911 RSR), and only needed a splash of fuel with the change to required H's, if I remember correctly (though it may have been no fuel). Friend in a BMW needed more fuel and to do it a lap earlier, if I recall correctly, saving me some time in the pits. Though, the overlap between M/H tires might mean it's possible to undercut people if short-pitting with 2 or 3 laps to go, to get those H's up to temperature and then attacking on the last lap.

Porsche seems suited to the race, and wasn't too hard on the right side tires, compared to lefts, given the hairpin and first section is to the right, and the fast turn before S/F straight is also hard on the lefts. So was pretty even, compared to the wear when running in the other direction.

Just hoping for much better results than I had in the Gr2 race at Fuji...
