This.

Again, it's not the track. It's all about the racers. If people use a basic rue for following closely: BRAKE EARLIER THAN NORMAL, lots of carnage can be avoided.

Exactly this!

Luckily I got through lap 1 without incident... looking at the replay it seems on lap 2 the guy behind me decided to break later than normal in the slipstream.. smashed into the back of me which lead to me flying into the guy in front of me taking him out too.

Just to round it off 3 second penalty went to the guy who was in front of me with the guy who caused it sailing past both of us.

Other than that though the race itself was pretty clean and quite enjoyable

I've only played since this year, but it seems that it's a bit rare that Porsche is so far down in the rankings... not even in the top 10! It's like they are punishing them for not delivering on the Vision car?!? I wonder if they've ever been this far down the standings.

But in any case the combination of mostly power-favoring tracks so far in the season have left it helpless. I'm doing all I can and rated about where I was in the prior season within the brand, but with a 10th place being my best so far, and the fact that it took a mixed 80-90SR grid to do that, I hope that the second half of the season offers a better opportunity.

It's probably mostly because none of the aliens are racing it over here. Several of them went with Chevy this season, and you can see the opposite effect on "our" standings.

The Vettes are definitely strong at the moment and in these first five tracks of the season. The only reason I lost DR in yesterday’s races was that I couldn’t keep the two Vettes raced by B-SR drivers behind me. I wish I had the time to run for Corvette on my Alt again (or maybe that I’d have picked it for my main one!).

I FINALLY started to get comfortable with Fuji last night. I finished 11th in the Lexus, and while that may not sound that great, it was for 45 points which is my highest for the season so far, so it was a tough lobby for me. The good news was that I was able to qualify 6th which was much better than I expected. I think I could have finished 8th or 9th with better pit strategy. I went with 8S/8M/7S which is fine on its own, but I filled up with fuel on my first pit stop and I think that was a mistake. I was thinking that I wanted my last stop to be tires-only and really quick, but I should have done that on my first stop. I came out behind traffic and the heavy fuel load made it tough to get good speed out of the mediums. The last stint on softs was great, but I just had too much ground to make up.

A few things I've learned about Fuji that really helped me:
1) Coasting a little longer in the hairpin to make sure the car is settled before putting the hammer down on the throttle (I used to always lose ground on other here)
2) When entering the chicane, really try to clip the curb on the right. This helped be consistent with my braking and shorten the distance going through the turn
3) Be very gentle on the inputs in the last sector - light on the brakes, easy on the throttle, don't be afraid to coast, just move really smoothly, and...
4) Soft tires here are SO much more fun to race on here than hards

I think my practice in the past two weeks with the 787B and the E-tron helped me learn several of these points, and putting them into play with the Lexus was very satisfying. I was in the mix with several cars in the top ten for the whole race and that just isn't a feeling I've had very often with Fuji. 👍

Managed to match my practice quali lap which put me right near the front of the grid. Unfortunately I had absolutely no pace in the first stint and dropped down a few positions. After that I finally settled down and had some breathing space after some penalties behind. The rest of the race was just about keeping it on the track and navigating traffic. Had a battle for the last 2 laps as strategies converged and managed to bring home my best result of the season.

I finally watched my Manu replays from last night and it was almost as exhausting as the actual races were. They were similar in points available, so I'm thinking I didn't lose as much DR after race 1 as I thought. (I didn't actually check, I felt like I had just been run over and just took a break between slots.)

I was one of very few handling cars in both slots and qualy'd P12 in each. I don't think I could qualified much higher in either race, so I was okay with it. Interestingly, L1 wasn't the problem in either race. I got through it clean in both races and actually gained places. Then it all went to pieces but for different reasons in both races. I ran a 2M/7S/7S/7S strat for both races. I think the early pit may have been my undoing and should've started on RS even though I was so far back. Maybe a 7S/2M/7S/7S or something like that. I tried a 2-stop in practice and that didn't seem viable for me.

Anyway, slot 1 I make it to the first pit stop okay but I come out into backmarker traffic. I immediately get mixed up with a Porsche that has zero lateral awareness and a very short temper. I'm pretty sure he's a 13 yr old kid with impulse control issues. Long story short, he full on t-bones me in the hairpin L3 sending me into a spin and back to P20. Later on he intentionally turns into me in 100R sending me into another spin. I watched him in the replay and he next rammed a Lexus right before he rage quit. I also got pit maneuvered at some point, rammed off the track from behind several times and rather unceremoniously pushed off the track at Panasonic. I somehow managed to finish P15.

Slot 2 was a different mess, this time mostly of my own doing. I get through L1 alright and move up to P8 on the long straight going into L2. I then get boxed into the outside line by two cars - one in front and one on the inside. I thought I braked plenty early but realize I'm going to ram the guy in front of me and try to swerve to what little room we have on the outside. I clip his bumper sending him to the inside of the corner and me spinning into the runoff area. By the time I get back on track, I'm now P17. The rest of the race is kind of like that - me pressing too hard. I got 2-3 track penalties at Coca-Cola, oversteered out of several turns - to the point of landing myself in the grass a few times. But the worst was after racing a Corvette close and clean for a couple laps, there's again a mess at T1. We catch up to a guy coming out of a penalty, then someone coming out of the pits joins our group. (I will say, he really should have stayed in the exit lane. His not doing so contributed to the problem.) Again, I misjudge how much traffic in front of me slows and I catch the 'Vette's bumper pretty hard and spin him off the track. I pull over and wait for him to recover, which took forever and put me into P18.

Looking back at it, I probably shouldn't have raced slot 2. I was worn down from the mess of slot 1 and it definitely affected my driving in slot 2. In addition to all the oversteeryness, I noticed in the replay that I got really pushy in the last third of the race in my effort to make up ground. I didn't push anyone off track but I definitely pushed my way past people several times. I did manage to work my way to P11 by the end of all of it but I'm not very happy with it. I should've raced much cleaner and under more control than I did. It probably would've resulted in a few more places, too.

Oh, well. As always, there's much to be learned and much work to do. I can only imagine what Godwood is going to be like after this.

Ran Slot 1 at Fuji on Saturday. I had a ton of stuff to do after the race to prep for AutoX. So, this was going to be a one shot race. I did all I could do to find a slip stream on qualifying, but it just never seemed to work out for me. Got the bug to a high 1:37 on the qualification run, which was only good for p16 in a lobby I that I came in ranked 15. Joining me were @Pigems and @Winnie847. Pigems was right behind me and Winnie was up front with the fast guys. I went for a completely whack pit strategy that may have worked if I was perfect, but since I'm not.... I finished p14. No real problems or incidents with anyone worth mentioning. However, I did get an easy overtake courtesy of a Hyundai driver. Overall, I enjoyed the race and I generally don't enjoy Fuji, but its starting to grow on me.

Video below, please excuse the banging and clanking and my 5 year old in the background. LOL. I had Autocross this morning so I spent last night swapping my tires and bleeding my brakes, etc. Had to do audio when I got home and he was in rare form. P3 in my class (FS). Got my tail handled to me by a pair in a 2020 Camaro SS. RIP Q50S Hyrbrid, did manage to put the whoopie stink on a 2020 Mustang GT and a 2019 Mustang GT PP Level 2. So, not a completely terrible day.

Morning everybody! After few weeks, Im finnally back in FIA races. My comeback was pretty satisfying... Jumped in 2nd slot in EMEA, qualified 10th in A/S lobbby, then dissconection... Decided to get good points no matter what, even if it means I got to race every slot:) As I got time before another one starts, decided to practice, saw some friends practicing in private lobby and jumped in... After few laps I noticed that 3 pit strategy probably will be fastest... Time for 2nd try. My DR dropped to B after dscnt, so potential points were smaller but still good... Qualified 12th this time, I went 6S/7S/fuel for 7S/fuel for 3M. Finished 7th for 101pts:) good enough for me... Im 36th in Lexus leaderboard EMEA:) Now I focus on Nations cup, beacause start of the season was just disaster... Internet issues, broken spring in pedals(somehow I managed to finish race) very unlucky... Now I got new pedals T3PA, and they are great! Looking forward for next rounds, hoping for good results. Good luck to you all!:cheers::gtpflag:

Looking forward to Nations, feels like ages since there's been an FIA race at Fuji, dont know why they dont race there more
I know! It'll be a whole week since we raced there by the time we get to the Nation's race, and it was a whole 2 weeks between the Group C Daily race and the Manufacturer's FIA race!

It's been a while since I've bothered to post in here, mainly because I've had nothing worth posting. It's been an abysmal start to the season with having internet issues and nearly 10k DR loss because of the disconnects.

The first race of the season at Seaside I was running 2nd on the final couple of laps and got DC'd so 0 points to show for it, then again at Monza I qualified on pole but got DC'd on the starting grid 🤬 the way the season started I didn't even have the motivation to run at Tsukuba.

Fast forward to Alsace where I finally got a decent finish and was able to finish the race  no issues! Only took me 4 weeks to get some points on the board, lol! Started 2nd on the grid behind TT Cup and managed to hang with him for a couple of laps but I started making mistakes on the same turn consecutively and his pace was much better than the Mustang, had a great battle with an Evo for 2nd up until my 2nd stop where I was no match in the fuel saving department where we went in together and left with a 3+ second gap. Overall it was a fun race and ended up finishing 3rd for 162 points. Good to see my teammates @Master Weasel & @hiortintexas in the lobby looks like they had a great battle with each other.

I had been waiting to get some revenge at Fuji since last season where I felt I should have won. Put down a great FP time and then started working on my qualifying time mostly in lobbies. Ended up putting it on pole and I knew it was a tough lobby with @Equus_ferrum in my lobby qualifying 3rd after he'd basically been right there with me in FP times or lobbies and Freeryd503 up front as well, he'd been kicking my butt at Brands Hatch all week. Great to see @Razgriz2118 as well it's been a minute! The first laps were a good battle trading back and forth with the NSX swapping the lead couple of times before managing to make it stick and Equus_ferrum overtakes him for 2nd. I figured it would be a dog fight, fighting off his Corvette in the Ford and he was right on my ass until lap 3 where it looked like a big chain reaction of about 3-4 cars getting punted in the chicane where I suddenly picked up a good 3.5 second gap from there it was just a matter of not messing up my own race in the clean air while everybody else fought back in the pack. Managed to bring home the victory with a really nice 6+ second gap crossing the finish line and my highest point total to date 210! I'll take it being one and done, wish I'd had the balls to go again since I really wanted to!

That FP practice time at Fuji in your beloved GT was insanely quick... I was sure you had a win coming when I saw that on my friends FP leaderboard. Nice job!

Bummed I missed the race at Alsace as I like that track. Fingers crossed for Goodwood... have been wanting to race there, but not sure Gr4 cars are the first choice I'd have made if asked. A nice Nations race in a spec car or road car category might have been more fun.

And yeah, been a rough season for me so far, overall... bad car/track combos for me, tough competition compared to past season, and Porsche seems at a disadvantage this time round.

Once again, 2 and done for me.

Slot 1
I lost quite a bit of DR the last 2 weeks, so ended up in a slightly lower room than I'd been racing in recently, with the win worth 210 points. It was at that point that I decided I'd probably have to go again, because @Jwptexas was in my race and he'd been faster all week, so the best I could realistically hope for was 2nd and 201 points, which would've been my lowest score of my 4 so far. Naturally @Jwptexas put it on pole, and I qualified 3rd, with 2nd having gotten a tow from me on my fastest lap. At the start I hung with the 2 cars in front of me and eventually got to 2nd, right behind @Jwptexas, but headed into the chicane on Lap 3, 4th tapped 3rd into me and almost forced me off. After gathering it all back up, I was still in 2nd, but now several seconds behind the leader and off my rhythm. I eventually fell to 4th or 5th and was stuck squabbling with 3 or 4 cars, so I decided to 3-stop (had been debating on a 2-stop), since at worst I would just come out in other traffic. It almost worked, but someone divebombed me at T1 as they were coming out of the pits and I got a 1s penalty for it and lost 2 spots 🤬. I was running 6th on the last lap when 5th place spun out of the final corner so I inherited that spot for 175 points. I think @Razgriz2118 was the only Viper that didn't hit me coming out of the pits in either the race or qualifying .

Slot 2
@csmirnoff and @Winnie847 were the other GTP member in this race if I recall correctly. I qualified 2nd, finished 2nd. Pole and 3rd place also finished where they started. I actually led quite a bit of the race, but the polesitter/winner in a Porsche was way better on his tires. I'd been contemplating a 2-stop, and went 7 laps on my first stint in anticipation of doing 7s/7s/9m, but when I saw how easily the Porsche caught me in Turn 3 and the last sector, I knew I wouldn't be able to keep them behind on that strategy, especially after seeing them do 8 laps on their first Soft stint. Fortunately a large gap opened up behind 3rd place, so I pitted after 6 laps on my 2nd stint and took just enough fuel for the next 6-lap Soft stint, emerging in 3rd, which became the lead again when the Porsche pitted for more Softs as well, and the 2-stopping Ford GT pitted for Mediums to go to the end. I then pitted on Lap 19 for Mediums and fuel to take to the end, and came out of the pits in 2nd, having easily opened the gap between myself and the Ford on my Softs vs. their Mediums. Unfortunately the winning Porsche also 3-stopped and went longer on the Softs and was better on fuel, so he came out of the pits for the final time over 5s ahead of me, and finished about 6.5s ahead of me, with me having the same gap to the Ford GT in 3rd. 210 points makes this my lowest counted score in Manufacturer's so far, but I'm not risking it.

I really appreciate you pulling that NSX around the track for 2nd on grid sheesh, lol. wish it could have been a great classic battle between the two of us until the finish!

Yeah I just kept working on it everyday slowly improving meanwhile the aliens just hop on the day of and smoke me, lol! I'm not too sure about this Goodwood race, definitely going to come down to qualifying and not over driving the car. Make sure you qualify before the chicane at the start! It's not to late to jump ship and come to Ford next season  we'll take ya! Porsche definitely lost something between the seasons.

Ironically it was a Viper that ruined it. The same Viper that finished 2nd was the one who started the punt-train on Lap 3, then hit me from several car lengths back as they came out of the pits and gave me a penalty. Even with that I probably could've been in the mix for a podium if I didn't take fuel on my first stop. I think the added weight from filling up with enough fuel to go to the end, combined with the Medium tires, made me way too slow in that stint and put me on the back foot for the rest of the race.

Had surprisingly above average pace at Fuji. It's usually a pretty shotty track for me. So I raced every slot I could because I was actually enjoying myself.

Super short summary:

Missed slot 1, had family over. Slot 2 I was in a low DR lobby. Pit strat was 8S/8S/7M. Got myself an easyish win.

Slot 3: was a little better. 200 points for first. Had some good racing and came out with another win. Last 2 slots I did my medium stint in the middle to try and give myself some space.

Slot 4: I was hoping for a somewhat top split race and I got what I wanted. 240 some odd point race. Q12th, finished 9th I think. I made a error at some point in the race and lost a couple positions but made it back in the end.

Slot 5: Another semi top split lobby. Q9th. Was up to 5th when I came in for my first stop for mediums. I had a bad entry into the pits so had to slow down more as to not hit the barriers and get an SR down. But a DNA driver who came in a little behind went for the full speed, no braking entry and plowed into the back of me. Came out with a 4 second for causing a collision... Well that's awesome. Finished P11. Thanked said driver for effing my race over. He told me to go fast and hit the wall because you make the sr back throughout the race. I thought you try not to hit things when you race??? He finished 5th, where I should have finished.

All in all, had good racing until the end of the night. Just super frustrating when the penalty effs you over for others mistakes. Doesn't look super short.
