Decided to make some liveries for tomorrow's Nations race that's fitting for Monza and the cars that will probably be used.

Did a quick test for the Gr.4 top speed at Monza main straight (no draft):
Fastest 4WD - Veyron (254 kmh)
Fastest FR - Vantage/Corvette (251 kmh)
Fastest MR - 650S (250 kmh)

Didn't test FF because they're useless on Racing Hards - terrible traction coming out of those slow chicanes :crazy: I also saw MistahMCA recommending the F-Type but in my testing it's slightly slower than the Aston/Vette at 250 kmh. It's all splitting hairs apart from the Veyron though.

I wish we'd use Monza No Chicane more often in FIA. One less risk of carnage and Curva Grande on cold tyres + dirty air on first lap is a proper brown pants moment :scared:

Woah, thanks for sharing this site. I've always wanted a leaderboard that also shows the car used. None of the other sites like kudos/r1s3 does and in the game you can only see people from your own region.

I tested a few cars at Tokyo, most of them settle at around 260km/h in time trial but some of them are nearly bouncing off the limiter in top gear when they get there. Others like the Porsche still have nearly all of the final gear to use.

Will be interesting in race conditions with slipstream and fuel multipliers

Long final gear seems to be a common theme with all the Porsche race cars. Cayman, 962 and 919 has this issue of "wasted" final gear. I think the 911 RSR has long gears as well but I don't drive it often so don't quote me on that.

Your Citroen should be able to no stop, it's one of the best in class for fuel/tyre saving. Just draft and stay out of trouble. Easier said than done here :P

Holland in the Huracan should be strong because it's got the highest top speed (270 kmh), but it eats tyres and fuel consumption isn't that great. Other 4WD and FF drivers unfortunately will have a tough time (including me) :ouch:

Nations race is a bit of a toss-up. Veyron is go-to car, but there are a number of cars that can give it a run for its money; 650S and F-Type were just a few alternatives I tested out.
 
After seeing you better drivers giving it a nod as a solid choice I'm running my Shaguar again. Already nailed a solid Manu race here in it earlier this season so might as well go for comfort.:cool:

Of course I seem to look like a muppet any time I feel like I could go well so am fully ready for a wreckfest failure of a race.:D:scared:
 
Jumped in the GT-R. Was a bit quicker than the RC F. Don't know how in thee ever loving heck those top 10 are driving the 650S. The Veyron just pulls away. Also I tried to link with the #9 RCZ. Couldn't keep up in the 650S or Veyron.

I guess tyre wear will bring everyone back to the rwd cars. The British Bulldogs might be the easy bet.

Edit: three penalties and me locking up on Lap 8, messed me up. Pitted and gained a few more positions.

Viper was good overall. Definitely was quicker than the Veyron. It went off a couple times and still passed the Veyron. I had the measure of the Veyron as well.
Gained the lead for a few laps. Got a penalty and set the Viper free. I was behind the Veyron and got another penalty. Went off after the penalty zone and the RC F went by.

GT-R did good. Good speed. Good acceleration. Fronts got worn, but I did set purple sectors the lap before I pit.

Started to get pushy with cars on worn tyres and me on fresh rubber. Last lap, Veyron pushes past me in the second chicane braking zone. Like why? It's toast thru the remainder of the lap. Anyway, final corner, we brake, I wait and sail past as Veyron runs wide while accelerating.

So my race was nothing to write home about. Was p20, way off pace, but could have qualified p18ish had I not screwed up 3 laps.

Started put of slipstream but caught up in the chicane bunch ups. Chaos everywhere. I bumped another car at Ascari but no penalties. Was actually up at p15 at one point and in position to gain more as people were shoving all over, but 2 laps in a row I somehow clipped the first curb in the second chicane with rear and it got super lose, second time it put me into the sand. Fought back to p16, but got run down and had a close 3 lap battle which I lost.

P17, points that dont count yet. And I looked a right muppet. Was definitely in a split above my skill as I kept getting rear ended when in a pack for braking early on the chicanes. But I was using my braking points, not those of the faster drivers. Could have been worse, no wrecks, SR ok. @LeGeNd-1 was in it and seemed to drive ok, but not sure how that goes since I was within sight of them for half the race. Probably not a good sign for any of those I'm that lobby.

Good luck to the rest of ya. Keep it tidy, those Hards are super slippery, like in the Manu race here.

Was really only in this to build back SR after falling to an A and went for an FF and got pole. Knew I had to get a good lead with tires wearing quicker than the FR’s.

Got through T1 ok but at the next chicane, P2 went for a bit of a lunge on cold tires and took us both off. He was given a 1 second penalty. I stayed in first and pulled out a 6.8 second lead by half way. Then the gap got less and less as expected and I was caught and passed on lap 10.

I seem to have an FIA curse. Qualified seventh in the Vantage, took the inside line into T1 to avoid trouble but got crunched between a very early braker and a divebomber. Came out of the chicane in last with a 4 sec penalty. Then slowly worked my way up to 14th before a mistake in about lap 7 put me back into 16th. Had much better pace than the Mustang in 15th but was the victim of being pushed into the grass by him coming down the straight. This dropped me to 19th before I managed to salvage 14th finishing just behind the Mustang who left the lobby before I could point out the error of his ways. Based on my race pace and DR I should have finished somewhere in the lower part of the top 10. Somehow ‘this seems to be my fate in every FIA race.
 
...for some reason, I was thinking the Monza race was a Manufacturers race, so I was just going about it wondering if the Cayman was up to the task. But realized today that it's a Nations race, so I have to decide what to drive... decisions, decisions.

I see here that the Veyron, Viper, and GTR are good race choices... but a few mentioned early on about the Vette... is it not quite up to the Viper's pace or just being overlooked?

I think they are overlooking it. Seems like it is a tick behind the Veyron on the straights, but better otherwise.

I tried using the Corvette in practice. It actually gets out of the first chicane MUCH better than the Veyron, despite the Veyron's AWD. On the other hand, the Veyron seemed to change direction way better than the Chevy through Ascari, despite being a heavy boat. The Veyron absolutely walks the 'Vette down the straights of course.

Right now I'm a little over 0.2s faster in the Veyron than the 'Vette.

Maybe this just speaks as to how crappy a driver I am but my RCZ pace wasn't all that far off of my Veyron pace. Personally, as I was trying out different cars for this race it was more stable for me than the F-type (my fastest FR car on this track.)

I tried out several different cars last night and could get most of them within a few tenths of each other, so I'm guessing you're probably just good to go with whatever car you're most comfortable with.

That said, it took me a while to get used to the Veyron - it's heavy, takes seemingly forever to brake and doesn't like turning too much - but once I did it was definitely the fastest of the bunch. I eventually even found some consistency in it. If you have the practice time, it's worth the extra few tenths a lap.

Nations Cup Round 7
Welp, disconnected immediately in the first slot and used as a pinball in the second slot.

Here's how my race went:
  1. Qualified P10.
  2. Sent almost all the way to the back at turn 1 by a McLaren who tried jumping several positions by bombing down the inside line only to slam into me whilst I was at the first apex, turning me into a spinning top. Checked the replay, no penalty given.
  3. Recovered back up to P12/13 or so amidst the chaos.
  4. Got brake checked by a Veyron who braked hard before the overhead sign leading to Ascari (so even taking slipstream and the Veyron's braking distance into account, WAY earlier than would be expected). I slam on and manage to get away with just giving him a small bump, then the Audi behind sends me all the way into the gravel because he somehow missed that the two cars in front were braking long before the normal braking point despite there being a bigger gap between him and me than between the Veyron and me. Also no penalty given...
  5. Finished P17.
What is it about Monza that makes people turn into the worst possible drivers going? I can't actually remember the last clean race I had there. Not going again, too angry! :grumpy::banghead:

Well that was interesting, first slot got disconnected (along with everyone else it seems) second slot had a last minute change of mind and switched from the RCZ to the viper. Qualified 5th, absolute mayhem at the first chicane (of course) left me near the back, managed to recover to 9th. My SR took such a hammering I decided not to go again, figured it would be demolition derby time.

I'm so glad I switched cars though, it actually made it enjoyable!
 
After three races at Monza today My DR has gone from 34.7k to 36.3k and my SR has gone from 99 to 82, by way of 68. I think that tells its own story. I'd go again, but I'm not going to get my SR back to 99 and I'm not going to be in a good enough lobby to even beat my original score of 130. What a waste of a day this has turned out to be.
