The challenges are welcome. But it’s essentially single player content. Most of my time playing this game now is with friends online almost every Sunday. I rarely boot this game up to play by myself. If they gave me the historic challenge at every track, I’d do that, but once done, that’d probably bit it. Come to think of it, I only do single player for the weekly’s and when a car shows up that I want or need. Which isn’t many now so yeah, mostly online private lobby racing.

I think that’s why I’d much rather have a lot more tracks over single player content. If the AI was actually good and fun to race against, maybe I would play single player a lot more. But even the latest weekly races. AI brake checking coming out of corners. As well as just turning right into me even though my front end is past the front end of their car… I’m in their way, they need that driving line for the next corner. Sorry, but I’m in it and have been halfway down the straight. Iused to play project cars 1 and 2 all the time against AI. You could adjust difficulty and aggression by 1% at a time. So you could dial it in. It wasn’t perfect but I’d get into some battles, not even win and still had fun. GT7 or gran Turismo in general has always been about weaving through a bunch of spread out cars. It’s dated.

The best racing I’ve had in game is the first 4-5 laps of custom race, full grid, put myself at the back. You literally have to stay at the back because there isn’t room to pass. You try and work your way through but have to give up corners etc, but once they spread out some, it’s back to weaving through. The AI is very slow through corners. If they addressed that, we’d be a bit closer to better racing with AI.

But yeah, the single player for those that play it a lot probably feels like slim pickings.
Absolutely agreed on the AI. Funny you mentioned custom races - I did a handful of 5-6 lap custom races last night since I didn't feel like doing anything else (I've beat most of the "career" and have just the hard stuff left). I had a lot of fun starting at the back and trying to race my way up in 5 laps with a similarly tuned car. I'm not the most skilled so Professional difficulty is a decent challenge. But I can see how better drivers get bored with it easily. I believe PD is onto something with the chili races and/or Sophy - they simply need to put it together across the board.

Also agreed on the difficulty slider (such a common-sense thing - Nascar Racing 2003 for the PC has it and that's a 21-year-old game) and the idiotic brake-checking and hooking maneuvers. I lose 90% of my CRBs for those two reasons although getting hooked by the AI at least generates the entertainment of attempting to (and unsuccessfully) pay them back.

If it's the yellow '03 Takata from GT4 and beyond the Epson would be better IMO, since it's based on the NA2 the shape is a bit closer.
I would have no concerns if it's the 2003 body style as long as it's balanced with the '97 Supra and '99 GT-R. The "data mine" listed it as the 2000 NSX since that was the championship car.
Good point on the Epson and yellow/green Takata cars being contemporaries. Same with some of the Raybrig and ARTA schemes also. I'm not a super stickler for detail on my custom grids - I simply associate the Epson scheme more closely with the 2008-era Super GT cars and the Takata schemes more closely with the late-90's cars.

Not impressed until they give us a caravan. Come on PD, lets go caravan racing! :D

we are NOT Top Gear of old....

kjb
That happens when you work in an office with no windows. You don't see the need for them 🤣
Well the reasoning is in its name...its a "concept" car, ya know when you went to art school and didnt know anything about actual architectural and engineering codes and standards

...Honestly office workers probably will probably make a boring car like a corolla

I miss that car, and I remember owning die-cast models of it back during my childhood days. Not to mention the fact that I had a lot of fun with it back in the original Forza Motorsport.
I had one of these Hot Wheels, in this exact colour. Somewhat of a mix of the NA1 and NA2 designs.

Actually it's still probably laying around somewhere, with the colours rubbed off a bit. I'll have to see if I can dig it up and post a picture of it.

GT7 receiving a wagon is excellent news! Even better that it's a beloved, marvellous Volvo 240 returning, ready for single-spec racing.
The rest are great too, but now that 1/505 available cars is a wagon, hopefully we'll see PD work to continue improving that wagon/nonwagon ratio; perhaps with the Gallardo-hearted Audi RS6 Avant, or one of the many Japanese wagon heroes - Legacy, Legnum or Stagea? There's a world of wagons out there, I haven't yet mentioned the woody American ones... :D
Woody wagons? Well, the day this comes to GT is the day I will **** bricks.

In a good way, of course.

While the SIR-II was never sold in the US, I did have a 1994 Civic Coupe (EJ chassis code) with a JDM B16a swap from the SIR-II...one of the most fun cars I've ever driven, let alone owned. Excited for the EG - always preferred the interior to the EK.
I had I red 92 EG bubble with an ITR motor and some other goodies… I remember working crazy hard for that car and set up! Loved it with all my heart… It got stolen though… They literally came with a flatbed and took it SMH… I hope I can recreate my baby extremely excited for this update!

The waist trim mouldings have chrome on them in GT4, and really on the Virgos? That’s news to me.
It's not really chrome but weird modelling somehow. Well visible in this picture, the body shape above the trim is exaggerated a lot which makes it reflect light from above and look like chrome. And yes, Virgos really were optional GLT wheels a year before the Turbo came along with them as standard equipment.

Hope for lotus now :-)
FWIW, I am in a Lotus group where a guy claiming to work for Polyphony Digital was looking for an unmolested, correct S2 Elise to take measurements, etc. Personally, it is a slap in the face that there's a Skoda or Daihatsu but no Lotus when there are all kinds of Lotus cars from the Seven to the Elan to the Esprit and even cars like the Lotus 78 F1 car. But, yeah, we've got the Suzuki Jimny.

You say that about the Jimny like it's a bad thing. The Jimny is a lot of fun for such an underpowered vehicle. :)

I hate this update already. Not only are these cars hard to find in Australia, the stocks will go up even more after this update. Dang you, PD!
While you say this.. I was sitting here watching some of the races you posted thinking.. Man, a V8 VK Commodore would be so awesome over here. Never seen one before. Sell me one! Or get it in the game please.

Side note: My R32 is for sale now. Imported it 9 years ago. Check it out on Built for Backroads .com 👍

Come to think of it, it was a bit odd that they didn't put a Caterham in the GTS and GT7.
That car would have allowed them to get around the licensing and get Lotus Seven into the game like RUF version Porsche.

Obviously, lots of people want an more modern Lotus, like Elise or Exige, but they could still satisfy some of the players who want a Lotus.

Nice to see a non-VGT offering this month.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the update to include the following or some combination of it.

  • TrueForce support
  • PSVR2 update
  • New track
  • global FFB improvement

Do you mean FullForce? Logitech Trueforce is already supported in the game and works pretty darn awesome (most of the time). I do hope that they implement FullForce soon so that the Fanatec uses can also experience how awesome the haptic feedback is.

80s/90s JDM cars will always hold a special place in my heart. I was always a DSM guy (hence the name). Owned two 1Gs and a 2G (then an Evo 8). Loved those cars.

I’d prefer the classic 5.0 swap, but any V8 would do. ;)

Not for nothing, but this article from 2019 has a 1993 model wagon in it. I’m sure PD could have sourced one anywhere in the world, but interesting it’s Hagerty.
1993 Volvo 240 Wagon 3/4 front
1993 Volvo 240 Wagon BaT

Hope it’s a manual
If I remember correctly, was the 240 in GT4-GT6 an auto?

There is supposed to be a 2012 Caterham in the datamine, so it might turn up eventually.

It's a sad state of affairs (IMO) when people are happy to get slow under powered wagon over an EV or VGT. That shows how low the bar has become.

I mean could they AT LEAST have given us a Turbo wagon? Come on man!
Do you want to get shot?

Mmm, a late 40s Chevy Fleetmaster... I reckon Kaz would love it. Maybe next time the car team is at Jay Leno's big shed they can try out one of these. Think of it shining in the Scapes! This wood would look good at Goodwood.

Edit:
If I remember correctly, was the 240 in GT4-GT6 an auto?
Not sure, but it was a four-speed.

I would be happy if the addition of the Volvo 240 is the impetus for adding more cool station wagons/shooting brakes to the series. (Of course, I know that will never happen.)

Nissan Stagea, Mitsubishi Evo Wagon, Legnum, Subaru WRX, Legacy, Volvo 850R, Porsche Panamera Turismo, Ferrari FF, BMW M3 Touring, All Audi Avants, AMG Hammer, Dodge Magnum, Cadillac CTS-V Wagon ...

In recent years, wagons are an endangered species that, along with sedans, are being deprived of their right to survive by SUVs, but various brands around the world produced very cool performance wagons.
And wagons and shooting brakes had the effect of looking lower, longer, and more elegant than sedans and coupes, and sometimes looked cooler than the bodies of such non-wagons on which they were based.

There would be nothing more to say if there were more events like the Performance Wagon Cup a permanent event.

Another car that will look absolutely goofy when full tuned...with the stock interior. C'mon PD...at least give us some interior customization in the next game. Steering wheels at least.
Yes. Doesn't even need to have many different ones to choose from. Actually, can be just some "sport interior" option in GT Auto which replaces seats and steering wheel. They added extra gauges as customization options back in GT6, so maybe that too. Though, changing seats colour would be nice too, similar to calipers, but doesn't have to be different model.
