Gran Turismo 7 Update Coming Next Week: Adds Five New Cars

My 2 cents on the car selection:

Opel Corsa GTE VGT: Another electric car whose battery will probably run out in less than a lap of the 'ring, and being a VGT tuning will be limited, so if it handles like a pig, you can't really fix it. If PD allowed for more setup adjustments on VGT's you could work them into solid driving cars but eh, whatev's.

Hyundai Elantra N: This car I'm actually interested in seeing its performance potential, especially trying to turn it into a facsimile of the IRL Elantra Touring car. Will likely make a nice rival to the Civic, and GT7 is sorely lacking in performance FWD 4-doors as is, so no complaints in this department.

Toyota RAV-4: Will have to see what trim PD go with, but likely another Hybrid-CVT borefest that has no performance upgrade potential what-so-ever. Even as a person who generally dislikes "The Truckening" of the automotive world, I'd be more than willing to accept these types of vehicles if you could do that Gran Turismo classic of stuffing a bunch of performance upgrades to make them outrun vehicles they have no business hanging with, but the problem is you can't.

Toyota FJ: Another car I'm interested in seeing what can be done, especially on the visual side. With the classic Jeep and the 2 Jimny's, there is a reasonable little off-road category waiting to be built.

Mazda Miata 12R: On one hand it's yet another ND Miata, but hopefully PD will do what they did with the Z-Tune and give it some unique visual parts to make it worthwhile. Either that or allow for a level of fully tuned performance beyond what the standard-unswapped MX5's can achieve.

Verdict: All in all not a spectacular update by any means, but there are some interesting options in there that make it not a total waste. To me the highlight is the Elantra N, which sits in a similar spot to the Renault Avantine in the last update: A solid car in it's own right and one that's entirely deserving of being added to the GT7 roster, but is very much having to carry the update, of which I'm not certain if it's the right car to do so. The FJ and 12R do have some potential to surprise, while the RAV-4 and Opel VGT will likely be pushed to the dusty corner of shame pretty quickly.

Hopefully going off what we were able to do with the Ioniq 5N , we get the parts to turn the Elantra N into this:

Or if not, this kinda works too I guess:

As for the others:

Toyota RAV 4: Going off the abysmal Nissan Qashqai (Which featured little cosmetic customization and not alot of tuning ONTOP of being a miserable dog turd to drive), we might be in for a crossover SUV that has plenty of Cosmetic Customization AND great tuning potential (Depending on the Drive train of course)

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40: Some don't see much use for this. I however, after already giving both Jimnys a racey Off-Road Build each, see some similar potential here (Particularly along the lines of something like this)

Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R: Genuinely curious as to what kinda of car we're dealing with here feel wise. This might be something fun to mindlessly lap around the ring.

Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo: Well, its an interesting thing. While active aero is hardly new to VGTs, an extending Rear Diffuser AND Rear Wing is definitely something worth seeing in anger. Definitely would prefer it not to be another understeery torque monster (Though the Indigo Encyclopedia himself suggests it to be the opposite so it could actually be worth throwing around).

This is what I'm hoping for too. I'm very happy to see the Elantra N grace the game, is GT7 is sorely lacking in FWD 4-doors/5-doors outside of the Civic. Almost every 4 door has been RWD/AWD and most front drivers have been Coupes or 3-door Hatchbacks.

About the Mazda Spirits Racing Roadster 12R:

Inside the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R

――The Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R, displayed at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, represents a significant project for Mazda Spirit Racing. What can you share about the model at this stage?
Maeda:

This car is, without question, the culmination of our race-derived expertise, know-how, and real-world testing results. The 12R model, limited to 200 units, features a 2-liter engine producing 200 horsepower—which is the maximum power we can currently extract from a production model Mazda MX-5 engine. We've incorporated race-developed technology into the suspension, with settings similar to our Super Taikyu race car. Each unit is carefully hand-assembled to ensure consistency, which adds significant value. It's completely different from other mass-production models in so many ways.

――Have you driven this model yourself?
Maeda:

Yes, I recently tested it at Okayama International Circuit. Naturally, it’s no match for our Super Taikyu car’s movement or lap times, but I’d say it’s the fastest Mazda MX-5 available right now. With its increased displacement, it has a slightly different positioning to the current model, but we've kept the lightweight, sporty character. And as it's a commercially available production model, we've designed it with everyday driving in mind, and gone for a comfortable ride rather than a stiff suspension setup.

――The concept model generated quite a buzz when it was unveiled at last year’s Auto Salon. Now that it's moving to production, do you see this elevating Mazda Spirit Racing's presence as a brand?
Maeda:

I want to be clear: we don’t see Mazda Spirit Racing as a sub-brand that uses racing merely as a marketing tool to launch cars. Our vision is to refine both our people and technology in the demanding environment of motorsports, and then translate those achievements into products. To put it bluntly, if our racing results hadn’t measured up, cancelling development of the production model was always an option. Having proven ourselves on the track means we can proudly offer the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R to our customers with complete confidence.

About the Mazda Spirits Racing Roadster 12R:
The persistence that they always refer to the car as a Mazda Spirit Racing with is making me wonder if MSR are going to get their own separate tuner brand that this will go into à la Nismo.

How do you know ?
I remember reading that some tracks new were ready for Sport, they just decided to "save" them for 7.

It would be very strange if the same thing wasn't happening now. I mean, the entire studio isn't working on the 3~5 cars that arrive monthly to 7. GT8 (or whatever they call it) must be in full production for more than 2 years now.

Yeah. I wonder when they will add Toyota Camry… this is the most popular sedan and from toyota. Its strange its not already in gt7 :D

Aww, speaking of the Roadster, Tom Matano, chief designer of the NA Miata has passed away.

Maybe PD will pay a tribute.
Man...

Back in '16, I saw some Miatas doing a local autocross event within a dusty parking lot by the sea. Kicked the rear of some imported and modded Lan Evos & an NA1 NSX.

Glad that Matano helped bring a humble sporting gift to the world in spite of the numerous "hairdressers' car" names over the years. Funnily enought, I too thought that more power = better.

Until we ride again into the winding roads in the sky...

Hoping they finally add the C5 Z06 to Sophy as it's not been 2(?) updates since it's been added and it's still not available for Sophy AI to use.
Almost none of modern Ferrari is Sophy-compatible as well and they've been in game for quite some time ;) Recently I wanted to create a custom "Porsche vs Ferrari" race and to my surprise, no F8 and 458 to race against.

Re update - I hope new MX-5 can be driven with roof open (VR fan here).

Crazy to thing about these two brands:

Chevrolet has 20 cars, but only one is not a Camaro or a Corvette. Subaru has 16 cars, but all of them are either BRZs or Imprezas/WRXs.

These two brands desperately need variety.
Subaru doesn't have a huge model lineup, but they do have a lot of modifications, which provides a lot of variety. Unfortunately, among older cars, the new ones are very boring. I understand this is a utopia, but:
Forester SG with EJ255 engines, STi version
Legacy BE with EJ208, for example S401 STi Version
Levorg 2.0 STI
Legacy BL 2.5 S402 4WD

Lengdy! Which, unfortunately, are apparently no longer destined to make it to the GT.
