(Edited, corrected and my bad, it is not the V12 but still put that sound i don´t care lol)

And this is how the Aston Martin V8 GT4 should sound...

and what about DTM 2012 cars if included in GT6.

1. This is a V8, not V12
2. I don't think that production car should sound like GT4 Race car.

I'm not saying GT5 has perfect sound, but it's not how the V12 Vantage should sound...

@ foxiol. I believe thats the V8 vantage. Not the V12.

Also most of these videos are using microphones which enhance sound. I have seen many cars in GT5 running in real life. The closest for me is the 787B. The way it idles etc etc. The worst has to be the BMW M5 and Chapperal 2J. Ferrari's, Lambo's, Zonda's aren't that far off. Unless you stick a race exhaust on it. They could/should be better though. But they aren't as loud as people think. The Veyron for example is hardly audible at 25-30ft in an open environment. When you see a Ferrari or Lambo down the street. It's usually in an enclosed space. Houses, tree's other cars all add echo to the sound making them louder.

No, actually if you are any near a racecar and they rev up the engine you will understand how loud it is. Get near a F1 car when it revs up and i assure you your ears will ring. Same with other racecars, they are just really really loud. If they would drive in a city i know you would not be able to live there yet alone stand 25-30ft away.

@Mulan. I think you misread my post. A race car usually has no silencers. Hence why it is louder. A road car has silencers. A car down a street is louder than a car in a field. Because of echo. And comparing Sounds through a Video doesn't work because the Camera/camcorder enhances the sound further. Race tracks are usually in fields. In open area's. As I said you can hardly hear the Veyron in open area. That goes for most supercars (Zonda R & Hennessey Venom are just loud). I have seen the normal Veyron, Grandsport, Pur Sang and Supersport all running. And I've stood next to alot of running racecars. Including a Renault R25 under a tent being revved, 787B, Toyota GT-one, Peugeot 905 & 908, Silkcut jags of different years, Audi's R8, R10,R15, R18, R8 LMS, Audi quattro's, 205's T16's, F1's from early 20's to 2010 including Auto unions, 6 wheeled tyrells, 2010 F10, V12 Vantage Zagato whatever you wish to name. Click my photo link page in my sig then you'll see what race cars i've seen running. Some video on there to. But I can't copy URL's off there. Also a F1 car isn't that loud. Try standing near an 8000hp Funnycar. Then you know what loud is.

My point was. The comparison between a V12 Vantage road car and a V8 Vantage race car is wrong. And using video as evidence of a car sound is good but not realistic.

The DTM cars would be very easy to give the right sounds.....to me they all sound the same, no matter which manufacturer....so they just need to record one car and would have propper sound for all the others.

Kinda disagree with you there. Having watched the ALMS races and heard the M3, it sticks out alot in that DTM video. There's a video somewhere on youtube with both the DTM car and the GTE car and other then the more pronounced rasp on the GT car, they sound alike.

This.

I've been going to NHRA races for the past 6-7 years. When you're in the pits and they fire up the motor after rebuild, then burp the throttle. It will literally knock you back.

And that's if you can take the fumes and your eyes melting away cause of the raw nitromethane coming out the pipes...

This, and the bowel massage you get when they launch, are pretty much my main memories from the one and only drag meet I've attended (a European final, some years ago). I should go again sometime...

"Supercars" are positively underwhelming by any standard.

Yes, the massage is quite weird, not to mention you can't really see cause your eyes are vibrating so bad, it really does make everything seem slow.

I also like how you can see them take off, but you don't hear the sound til they are at about the 60ft mark, they break the sound barrier at take off! Anyone who hasn't seen one run in person should do so.

Hi all,

I am just as annoyed by the noise made by the customizable tranny as many people are. Initially I thought it was normal particularly back in GT4 days. But in GT5 it just seems to have been taken to a whole new level.

Anyway, I have heard some people mention that it is never normal for a transmission to be that loud. My question is, how about this Pirelli-Porsche 911 GT3 at the 24h Nurburgring? It seems to me to be even noisier …or is that whining noise not coming from the transmission? And how about those banging downshifts?!? Hope those never make it into the game that’s for sure …

Yes, transmission noise can be very disturbing in the game.
It does seem, from videos, that it can be at least as loud as the engine in some cars, but I've never driven one with a straight-cut box, so I don't know. Although, I have been on buses that obviously have straight-cut gears, but they have noise reduction requirements, where typically racing cars don't (from the point of view of the noise in the cabin - drivers wear earplugs / earpieces usually.)

One thing to bear in mind is that smaller microphones (i.e. those in video cameras) are likely to resonate with higher frequencies, so they may actually accentuate certain bands in the higher regions of the spectrum and thus exaggerate the effect.

Good point about the microphones ...that surely is the only explanation for the noise in the higher gears.

I assume you don't mean that literally? ;) The speed of sound in air at 28 deg C is over 776 mph. (1 241 km/h)

As definite as that is, you have not heard ear splitting gearwhine until you've heard the BMW's:

As for the complaint on gearwhine, mine only deals with cars that aren't supposed to have it having it.

I think the gear whine in GT5 is too pronounced and sounds too distorted. Even on most cars with a straight cut 'box the sounds is usually underwhelming in comparison to the engine/exhaust.

You think that's bad? :sly:

I rather take those realistic sounds than the actual sounds in the game. GTR2, rFactor, Race07/GTR Evolution and GTL have the best realistic engines sounds.

I need to make some videos with some engine sounds for you guys.

Great research @ RACECAR 👍
Every RM able car keeps the stock exhaust, but only when NEW RMed. Be carefull guys, if you klick on the race exhaust and it gets installed, you have to RM a whole new car.
Btw. the ZR1 and Z06 sound different ;)

Hey, how can I keep the standard exhaust? I've just bought new Z06, RM'ed it and I have only titanium exhaust, no option to change it :nervous:

I'm off to Goodwood Festival of speed again this year. So hopefully i can get a few. My picture website (Link in my sig) has a couple of video's. But I can't copy the URL's off there.

Assuming you are talking about what I think you are talking about, I already have that covered :sly:

You can't unless you downgrade to update 1.10.

I was actually talking about the exhaust noise itself. The initial hit of the throttle is so loud the sound sort of drownds it self out for a half second or so, you sem them move, but you don't hear the sound. It is VERY weird lol.

I'm not sure what you're on about really. I've been to the O'rielly Fall Nationals several times and watched the race from different places.

Near the pit box the sound is essentially that of an explosion. It will cause permanent damage if you have no protection. You don't hear it. You feel it with your entire body. The funny cars are the most visceral. You feel the vibration in every part of our body. It is an incredible thing.

Watching from the 1000' mark what you said is true. You don't hear the cars until they reach the 60' mark or later. That has nothing to do with the speed of the cars though, rather how long it takes for the sound to reach you. Something like 1 second. In 1 second a Top Fuel car is already going over 100mph and probably jumped out a good 100ft as well so the effect is exaggerated.

I'm usually at about half track, i think it also depends on the layout and the location. Maple grove is pretty much in a valley surrounded by trees and hills. And no i've never let them go by without ear plugs. That's just stupid. It's hard to explain but yes its true, they move a good bit before you really hear them. It's kind of hard to explain. Other folks just have to see it to believe it.

The Corvette ZR1 race mod and the 2010 Camaro race mod finally have some snarling V8 sound to them with this new update. I was pretty blown away!

You mean the one "with" race exhaust? The V6 noise is finally gone?

EDIT: Found the 2.06 Soundimprovements Thread https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=253968

I had to fire it up and check it out! The Z06 RM still sounds like crap, the ZR1 finally got a decent sound sample even the startup sound changed, it's got a mean idle!! The Camaro RM also got a new sound sample, don't know what other cars did but I'm pretty relieved to see they finally took care of those 2 cars...(only works on RM trim)
