Fingers crossed for significant improvements!

Edit: Sorry premature. At 5.35pm Eutechnyx announced it was deployed and 10 mins later they announced that it had been approved and that it would be deployed shortly!!

Not yet. I happened to check their forum just a couple of minutes after they announced that it had been deployed but Dave edited his post 10 mins later to say it would be deployed "shortly".

Well, last time it took less than 24 hours from approval to roll out so it shouldn't be much longer.

The AI in this game is very odd. Totally useless with some cars, surprisingly good in others. If you guys try the Veyron Tournament, you will understand what I mean.

NOW the patch is live! I just downloaded it. It's tiny--should only take a few seconds. But I'm on my way to work and have no time to test it. Let's hope for good reports! :)

I just ran a few races with frawe, bullie, Alan & others in a 250 TR Lobby.

The Pros:
- lag is much reduced
- cars seem more stable and 'natural' when driving along side each other
- visual movement of the cars seems less erratic and choppy
- no incidents of cars pushing each other into a wall
- fewer incidents of cars suddenly shooting forward/backward/across the track

The Cons:
- Lag problems STILL persist, at least in Oval races
- In one race a car 'dropped' out of the sky and landed on my car
- At one point both AlanG and TURNER were in the same lobby/race but unable to see each other's cars
- During the same oval race there was some rather wacky behavior where cars seemed to 'jump' a bit

So things obviously aren't perfect but compared to what we had before the patch, it seems to be a major improvement. And I'm pretty confident, that at least on road courses, we won't have any more cars pushing each other into walls that all but ruined races in larger lobbies.

I'm looking very forward to the big test on Sunday and hope we can put together a full lobby.

There are issues still, but overall the gaming experience is far better in my opinion.

Another thing, the game is now quite 'unforgiving' regarding having more than two wheels simultaneously off-track - you'll see immediatly the time counter turning red, and that lap time will not count.

Yes, and I noticed clouting the armco at Riviera will negate your time as well.

EDIT: At least ahh, that's what I hear. :sly:

Just gonna post this here as well.

There seems to be a problem with the fastest lap time (star). It happened every race I did last night with Dice. If he gets the fastest lap time on a white/clean lap he takes the fastest lap... but then if I get a faster time on a red lap then from his side I get the star, but on my side he's still got the star.

I guess this will only really affect those races where you want to see who got the fastest time and usually there are points for the fastest time... so yes, something worth knowing for future events.

This could also affect your driver skill rating. I don't know how that skill rating is worked out but this bug could affect that.

Well, I look at it this way. I've always awarded fastest lap to whoever had the fastest lap on the results screen at the end of the race. And some of those results in the past may have been what would be considered a 'red lap' if the event run today, post patch. As such, I will continue to count whoever is awarded 'fastest lap' in the results screen. If the fastest lap is still awarded to a person who had a 'red' lap, than so be it. It's not that I want to encourage corner cutting but for the purpose of calculating results for my events, it would be impossible to regulate otherwise.

EDIT:

I think the 'initial' answer to this is YES. From my early impressions, it's far from perfect, but more than I was hoping for.

'Red laps' will simply not appear on the results screen at the end of the race, so whatever lap times acounted on in, all are valid lap times. That shouldn't be an issue.

The patch still did fail to address the problems with the penalty system, and where they're applied on circuits, despite Eutechnyx having so much talk about making big changes to the penalties. The patch does not remove the problem of shortcutting in races - for example at Monza turn 1, Autoblub road final corner etc. The laptime may be invalidated, but it does not prevent shortcutting.

And what about the issues of irregular finishing results times? This is a more than occasional occurrence. It's inevitable that in future, in more serious races (such as an ROC race, or some competition), situations will occur when a car will cross the line first, yet still lose the race based on the results.

What about the controller configuration bug? This is where, when you plug in/out a USB cable into the controller, the configuration changes, and you have to go to the main menu and change it back. This is not a big fix, and should have been fixed 2 months ago.

:indiff: Hmmm. I was wondering about those two tracks specifically. Didn't Dave mention they were tightening up the 'Penalty Zone' at Autoclub? Perhaps in realty he only meant the red zone for invalidating a lap. It is a bit of a trade off. On the one hand, it will prevent people from posting unrealistic lap times. On the other hand, Hockenheim, Autoclub and Monza will always involve a "discussion" before (or after) the race.

Yeah exactly. They DID say that the penalties would be changed to stop people shortcutting. There was mention of looking at other ways of preventing shortcutting, as "there are so many places to gain time by shortcutting".

I was expecting to be able to race fairly at Monza and Autoclub (and now, as I never even thought about myself before, Hockenheim). But like you say there'll always be a discussion and a question mark about these ones.

EDIT: Looking at the Eutechnyx forum now, "we are looking at solving the penalty issue in another way". Well, they didn't find anything. It's just ridiculous. It would be a very small development to simply add a few penalty zones at those circuits we've mentioned. Even though the penalty system is rubbish (such as getting a penalty for being shunted into a penalty zone etc etc), that would still have been enough for me.

:grumpy:Just posted this in eutchnyx forum:

Ok Dave here is my review of the patch after a couple of hours on and off line:

Despite the notorious improvements in the collision sistem the reduction of the lag and the improved stability of the lobbys(the only person who i saw being booted out off a lobby it was you in mhm66(henrik) lobby at least i think thats what happened since you've entered and exit various times) the game still has issues needing to be sort out in the (hopefully) next patch:

--The erasure of best laps leaderboards in order to delete the impossible lap times made pre-patch(one of the achievements of this passioned and faithfull community) was COMPLETLY USELESS since the bug persists-e.g. i was doing the arcade mode with my recently tuned(monster truck tune that is but thats for another thread and for the (hopefully)upcoming patch) F430 challenge featuring spa riviera and nuburgring and the leaderboards assumed the time i've made in riviera(1:47:99) in the nuburgring timetable where my best score was 2:04:25 so the problem is still there and probably inadequated lap times will start to show up
--lag problems are still there ,smoke, cars showing up ahead then behind then ahead again speccialy in the oval tracks

--And of course the inadmissible A.I. which in the lack off credits earning in online events makes the way to the million trophy a sacrifice and not a pleasure as it should be.

I'm only bothering to report these problems beacause i think eutchnyx is still commited to this "pos sale" assistence and interested to improve their products with consumer feedback and has been responsive to the requests and desires off this community of gamers. So please don't get me wrong i'm not only critissising, i'm hoping that my repairs will help you to improve a game that i already love in a close future(and keep doing it until "new racer" comes out).THANKS for the online code improvements whitch is what makes people getting back to this game but as you see there is still plenty of work to be done, which i trust that eutchnyx will undoubtly do in a effort to fidelize their clients to the products still to be released.
Hoping to get some feedback from you.

Well after much persistence by various people on different forums, the leaderboards have been wiped so we can play on a level playing field. What rubbish! The bugs are still there! Using DBR9 at silverstone i set a respectable 1.42. Not a great time but not tardy either, then somebody comes along and beats it by 8 seconds!

So what are they going to do now? Another patch, another un-discriminating raping of the leaderboard times which might please some people, but annoy others who legitimately set there times in races and time trials?

It looks like we as consumers are once again guinea-pigs for System3 and Eutechnyx. And another thing, after playing this game then switching my PS3 off i always get that triple beep noise. Doesn't happen with any other game or hardware i use and i'm concerned it might do some damage to my 120gig in the long term.

HA! Now you know how the rest of us feel! :p

Well, obviously Sarrinen was being serious but it's hard not to appreciate the irony here.

But I'm afraid if you're unhappy about the lap records being reset, you better get used to it as it may yet happen again. For those who haven't been following this thread: http://forums.eutechnyx.com/index.php/topic,1465.new.html#new over on the Eutechnyx forums, wander over and have a look. There is obviously something very amiss about the setup changes and the bizarre affects increased ride height has on straight line speed. It's something I hope Eutechnyx adjusts in a future patch and indeed, the seem to suggest that they're looking into it. If they do, obviously, it would only make sense for the leaderboards to be reset again. Otherwise, nobody will ever be able to match these times. I agree that it should never have been like this in the first place. But at least they're now taking steps to set things right, which I suppose is the lesser of two evils than just doing nothing.

I don't want to specifically blame System 3 or Eutechnyx, but it does seem like their relationship has turned somewhat toxic, and the affect it's had on SCC is lamentable. And I can only hope that Eutechnyx's new title will be improved when free of the bonds and restrictions of their current relationship.

That said, I was able to take part in some 250TR races last night in a lobby hosted by Hairy-Dave and I have yet more positive feedback about the patch. At one point there were as many as 13 people running--quite a showing.

- At no point was there any 'serious' lag issues that I was aware of. 👍

- As with the previous night, cars seem much clearer rendered with less 'shaky' and random movements across the track. Their flow and movements seem much smoother and more like real cars. 👍

- When cars brake and accelerate, it's no longer sporadic or violent (as a result of lag) and it's much easier to run closer. 👍

- It was possible to have very close, side-by-side racing, even at a track like VIR. 👍

- No incidents of cars being stuck together. 👍

- At one point I tapped Frawe from behind. It clearly looked like I tapped him but from my side there was no sound and no sense of impact. So there may still be incidents when it's hard to tell if you really touched another car or not. (It should be obvious front to back but it may not be side to side) 👎

But overall, it appeared that it was possible to have a full lobby or racers free of lag. Indeed a good thing. Although I do have to say, and this has nothing to do with the patch, it was an open lobby and therefore subjected to some of the pitfalls that open lobbies present:

- With 13 people in a lobby, it's bound to be chaotic. But at the Silverstone National race especially, some people were really a little argy-bargy. Completely chaos at corner 2 with 2/3 of the field being knocked off the track. One guy knocked me off the road 3 times and just kept going. Ridiculous.

- Even though we agreed in principle and the host made several announcements that it was to be run with stock setup, it was obvious at least two people were still running modified setups. One in particular had his rear end a meter off the ground. And somebody who should know better. Is it not obvious when you finish a race with a laptime >4 seconds faster than the 2nd placed car and you're 20-kmh faster down the straight that something is amiss? :dopey:

* As a final note, I apologize if my car caused any disruption after the Mugello Sport race. I was called away unexpectedly and returned to the lobby but was away longer than I thought and I'm guessing my car took place in the following race without me and may have caused some undue problems just sitting there on the grid.

1. At Virginia I had a very close and side by side race with Mario at least for three rounds. This was very challenging and enjoyable for both of us. Without the patch this would be impossible.

2. You tapped me at Vallelunga in one of the hairpins. I heard the "bump"-sound and felt the little push you gave me. The result was driving off the corner with two wheels in the grass. But nothing to worry about. Race accidents can happen. I think the patch calculates also the speed you bump someone better. Postpatch bumpers were resulting in jumping forward and both cars were off the track.

3. In Silverstone National I had the luck of a good start and was leading the race till the end. So I didnt know what was going on behind me. In open lobbies there is always the possibility that some people are unfair. We have to live with it.

Overall I can say the patch is a big improvement for the online play.

Yeah, the point I was trying to make was that I thought I tapped you because I could clearly see it and your car jump forward slightly and then ran a bit wide. (sorry again :sly: ) But otherwise, I didn't 'feel' the bump. From my perspective it wasn't 100% clear that we touched, although I had a good idea because I could see it. And this could cause a problem when racing side by side because you could push somebody off by accident and not realize that you made contact. There should always be a noise or sensation and sometimes there still isn't. But maybe I'm being too picky.

BTW, why did you put a Belgian flag on your car? You need to rotate it 90*. :D

Indeed, I'm so glad that finally we can race really close without fear of stupid lag-induced accidents.

Jeff, you should've been there. Three full laps at VIR with my front bumper inches from Frank's car, with side-by-side cornering, everything.

I had a similar experience with Hairy-Dave at the american track (I never know if it's homestead or the other), full sequences of corners side-by-side. Derek was there to witness it, while waiting that we both got off track and he could go through. Well ... that would surely happen before the patch but, after the patch, it didn't happen! ;)

Ahem, I was there. Several places ahead of you. :sly:
