PD is smart --> They know that how longer they wait with the NA and EURO releases how more people would buy the ASIAN version first and then their own region's version again. So they earn twice. A lot of people already bought the japanese or chinese version so they think: nice lets wait some more, change/add some to the PAL and NTSC versions and they buy that one also. And probably that 210 page booklet will come in english and you have to pay for that aswell.

I am sure they would delay this multi-million dallor game for monthes in order to sell an extra couple hundred copies of the game, due to importing. [/sarcasm]

NO offense, but I think I'll just skip GT4, and cancel my reservation.

I doubt this game is worth my 1 1/2 year wait.

no offense to whom? -_-;

sorry, but we don't really care either way.. you want to play it? fine, you don't? fine. we don't care, really.

PAL release is finalized at 9th March for preorders and 11th March in stores / retail.

NTSC US release date is still unknown.

Reasons? From what is happening, PD is adding a new cars to both versions. Since european release will have additional european cars in both new, classic and used car sections, it is right to assume that US version will get the same treatment.

Still, somebody has to do the job of modelling all those cars and incorporating them into code. That is the main reason for delaying, not to forget the ongoing GT Moblie project for PSP, scheduled for May.

Does that mean we should buy all three version of the game to enjoy all the cars for all around the world? Answer is probably yes. What a nice way to increase sales :).

Still, surprisingly, I have no problem with that...

Dude, why does everyone forget that we ignore people when they don't list their sources?
As is, I have absolutely NO reason to believe you. You are like the 20th person in this thread alone to claim to know the reasons for the delay and so far NO one has a shred of proof.

Hook us up. Who's yer source?

Am I the only person who doesn't give a rats ass about PSP version. First you cant use the DFP on it so whats the point playing some crappier version of GT4. If this huge delay is some how related to PSP junk, its just pissing me off more.

Whilst I would concur that there could well be 3 different/tailored Global versions (eventually) made available to the drooling masses, I find it staggering that PD's project management have allowed soooo many release date 'slippages'.

If the reason for the protracted delay is to model/code in specific vehicle additions for regional variences, why has it dawned on them so RECENTLY??? Why was there not a meeting last Summer that had the theme 'additions to the regional variations', swiftly followed by a 'what sort of timeline are we looking at' discussion?

Unless we end up with a bucket load of new cars, (and there's plenty out there that aren't currently 'in' - would love a Jag XJS, amongst others), I'm left wondering that there could be more significant reasons for the on going delay saga.

Yes, it takes time to get a car into the game and adds credence to the delay arguement, however, I'm getting more skeptical by the day that when the PAL and US versions finally hit the shelves we'll be seeing more than just a couple or three new shiny cars to gawp at and an English menu to trawl through.

If indeed March (for the PAL fraternaty at least) turns out to be the month we've been waiting for, expect the unexpected...

Your post intrigues me........ do you know something we dont?

It stands to reason that if we are getting more cars, then why wouldnt the japanese want to buy our version of the game?

And if they have a fascination with everything european as we do japanese, then they will want to buy our version, meaning they have to wait till we get it before they can import, which means they will buy their own version first, then ours when it is released, meaning PD will earn more in the long run. And we arent talking 3,000 yen here.
So why wouldnt PD delay the release?
That way they get their japanese sales in, then their european sales, then their US.
Ch-ching.

Bloody powers that be.

Ah yes, the old 'cash from chaos' ploy. It has a nasty ring of truth about it... :indiff:

Well I do have a problem with that. I believe, that in that way they encourage piracy. For that to be legally possible you should buy three PS2 and thre versions of the game. Three versions of the game would not be so hard but three PS2 would. We, who don't use modchips are therefore being scamed :). I don't like that at all. And even if I would somehow skip the 3PS2 and 3GT4 games problem, there would still be another big problem - three times do 90%+ of the same racing and licenses ... Bad bad worse :D.

They say 03/2005. Which means March 2005. :indiff:

Edit:Just added "discussion" to the thread title so we can mainly discuss New Release Dates here. 👍

i doubt its already been said, but i've read in january's opm(official playstation magazine) a gynormous article on just gt4, and ky supposedly said March '05... if that helps anyone. :grumpy:

my 2cents...

Is actually not fair that they make different version of the game. If would be no problem if GT4 was online and that you can download the NTSC version cars on PAL and vice versa. But I think no we have to do with the PAL cars. So I hope they just add and not change a lot to the versions.

Dude, just search a little bit here in the GT4 forums and you will see that there is a thread that proves 1 extra car.

And Amar212 is in contact with SCEE i am almost sure about that, he had the BMWdemo first way before it was at the dealers! Just to inform you.

And a good source will never be revealed :sly:

So alot of homework to do for you! :sly: :sly: :dopey: :) 👍

My guess is that they may have 2 to 3 (max) different or additional cars in each version. Modeling each car takes substantial time and assuming its on track to be released in the February/March 2005 time frame, the game should be very close to its final code by now, if not already finalized.

To add more fuel to the inferno...

"Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today confirmed a March 9th 2005 release for the hugely anticipated Gran Turismo 4 across Europe and Australasia."

"Released across Japan on December 28th 2004, the series popularity throughout Europe hasn’t gone unnoticed, as today SCEE confirmed the inclusion of 10 additional vehicles for the European version; these include the stunning new Alfa Romeo GT, the Audi Nuvolari Quattro, the award-winning modified HPA Motorsports Golf IV R32, the Auto Union V16 Type C Streamline Race Car, the controversial Chaparral 2J Race Car and the 1993 Le Mans winning Peugeot 905."

Thanks for the update. I really hope SCEA comes out with an announcement for more cars too, and a reasonable release date, i.e. not too long after March 9th. But seeing as how SCEE has already confirmed the date, I believe SCEAs confirmation date should be announced within the next 2 weeks or so.

This is bs... Now Europe has a solid release date, and America is still in the dark wondering if we even get any extra cars. 👎 If I could somehow control the minds of all GT4 fans, I wouldn't allow anyone to buy GT4 for the first week just to let KY ruin a few underware.

Bah, I want that Golf. We better get a 90s Mustang or more 3rd generation Camaros.

just a thought...if europe already has a confirmed date of march 9, then shouldnt we, the US, get the game before that?

im not exactly sure how this works

If Europe got their release date before the US, then that means that Europe will get the actual game before the US.

Much thanks for the information Mav. Just like Cudadude, Alfa GT is exactly the car I was waiting for. Moreover, you can't go wrong with the seriously gorgeous Nuvolari Quattro. The 905 LM is also a VERY nice addition. :)
