Another way to look at the potential split; PD don't seem particularly proud of the Standards, hence the lack of new footage/screens of them in a while. People have assumed that License tests will likely be premium cars only (presumably as a way to showcase the game). Well going by that logic, for a company who seem to be treating standards like some forgotten child, it would seem strange they would want their players to experience the game for the first time with a sub-par car compared to the Premiums.

Wether or not that means they'll be split or not, I would expect at the very least there'd be cheap premium cars, so only people who want a particular car would need to buy a standard one.

I'm expecting Licenses to be largely Premiums too; looking at GT4, a lot of license test cars were new to the series... or, when the test largely recreated a previous GT's test, it was either a car from that time, or a modern version of it.

It certainly makes sense that PD would want many peoples' first steps in GT Mode to be with Premium cars. Put your best foot forward, etc etc. I certainly hope we don't have to "work up" or "earn" Premiums.

CR-Z demo suggests displays 25,000Cr (thanks dave_sz)... hmmmm.

In all likleyhood I'm going for whatever gives me the most HP for the least weight standard or not. To prepare for standard cars I switched from cockpit view to bumper cam in GT5P. If I end up in a premium car then it's a good bonus but with most of the cars being standard I descided to assume I will be in a standard at all times. I'll be less disappointed that way. I noticed that no matter how good with cockpit I am faster and more consistant from car to car with bumper cam.

Mastering one car from cockpit view is much more satisfying though.

I love European cars so I put it in the poll but I really enjoy Japanese cars for a change, I have never been interested in the American stuff..

Of course an obvious starter car would be a Liana, Lacetti or C'eed modeled as a Premium, given the tie-up.

I might start out doing the license tests. At least the first few.

In previous GTs I started with racing. The license tests give you a nice idea of the game though and I thought it would be nice to try starting with that this time.

On the other hand I might just buy a nice japanese car and start racing. Some of the prize cars can spoil the 'new game' fun pretty fast.

If it is in the game i would love to start with a used BMW E30 325i or 330i :)
Otherwise, I will go for an old Supra, Lancer or WRX.

I want to drive ferraris aLOT

Ah, yes, the 10k credit starting money... Going through the manufacturers 'showrooms' looking at the cars you wanna have before going to the second hand showroom and buying whatever you can afford. And then, after many races and the selling of a handfull of prize cars, your bank account reaches that magical amount... you rush to the ferrari showroom, buy the car and spend the next hour racing it everywhere. Your first ferrari.

That's one of the lovely elements of a new GT game. You can only experience it once every game, because once you know which races make you the most money in the least amount of time, the magic is gone.

Hahaha, so true. I think this time I around I want to see how few cars I can use. Start off with one and just abuse it to kingdom come.

That is the magic of Gran Turismo. Well said mate. I usually hold onto my very first purchased car (starting car). So when I've done about 60 percent of the game and accumulated a rather large collection of dazzling cars I can look back at my first car and admire it. To me the starting car is like a museum piece. As soon as I purchase my 2nd car that's it.. I don't modify the starting car anymore and only drive it very rarely.

This may sound weird, but after having not driven the starting car for many Gran Turismo months and then suddenly driving it it gives me a happy feeling just do to a few pointless Time Trial laps.

Man, after seeing that the CR-Z was premium, I might want to get that as a starting car! Mostly because I'm planning to buy a new car in the next 6-12 months and the CR-Z is on my list!

Well, since I have a lot of cars in GT PSP, not really a starting car. I'll probably import them later after starting from scratch. I'll probably start like I did in GT2, with the MKIII Toyota Supra. (Hooray for the used car section!) :D

Ill start with a Golf 4 non GTI if there is one. I own this car in RL. would be cool to have it in GT5 :-)

I would like to get a Muscle car to start off with, but i doubt one will be cheap enough.

So i would have go with maybe a Volkswagen or something fom Toyota.

Hopefully I can find an affordable yank V8. A second hand Camaro or Mustang would be cool. Or if a second hand Stingray is affordable, I'll go one of those. A Dodge Challenger/Charger would be what I'm aiming for. A black one. But if they have more Aussie cars, an old Monaro (HQ through to VH) I will definitely get on of those. Or a GTHO Falcon. Hope licenses give money rewards so I can do those first then buy something really nice.

i wonder if they would still have the odometer on the cars like in GT4.. then you could take a picture of a 500,000 mile car lol

Oh man, it's such a joyful moment to start with a new GT and pick your first car! Like a child in a candyshop. I voted European, will probably buy me a German car.

Hmm, what European cars would be available as a starter? I love the sound of that but i think they will be all too expensive, that's why i went Japanese, because i know theres plenty of choice to start off with :)

Since they say all of the cars from GTPSP is transferable to GT5, I always thought if they made room for most of the newer Civics, including the European version of it.

I know i'm definetely starting off with a Japanese car.

Ya I think that's why this poll is leaning towards the Japanese cars. More affordable cars that can still perform well enough to be used in alot of events at the start. I'm curious to know just how many events we will have in GT5. Considering how many were in GT4, with all the manufacturer events as well, I think GT5 will take ALOT more time to hit 100%. I'm going for it though. I want to make a long term goal of owning atleast 1 of every make and model of car in the game. All 1000+ of them!
