Well they did it, they shut our suburbs power off for approx 45mins :(

They have shut off quite a lot of suburbs today with "Load Shedding" being the reason. ATM, Marion is now off for approx 1 Hour.

Luckily in the city where i work, I have yet to be affected.

We lost power at work for about 1/2 hour around 3. Kicked all the customers out and then let people in 2 at a time.

I was speaking to someone in Tassie today and it was 42, thats really really really hot for them.

Enjoying a sub-30C temperature right about now. :)

I, as well as everyone else, am still angry at how grossly incompetent our government is in these times. A few classic examples:

Recently stated by the SA government to its people - "Don't use air-conditioners unless you really, really have to". Umm, apparently Melbourne just suffered its hottest days in 106 years; is that not reason enough?

Melbourne's state Department of Public Transport doesn't know what it is doing. So bereft of intelligence and initiative is Lynne Kosky and the crew that within the seclusion of their air-condition offices they have called out and encouraged the local workers to simply 'take the day off'. In a time where many countries and its workers are lucky to still have a job they are now being told to simply forego the oppurtunity because their embarassingly inane political leaders can't do anything about the manifestly under-funded transport system.

Of course, the previously stated errors of political judgement and initiative have been exacerbated by yet another dangerously poorly-calculated decision of the Federal Government to pump into the system millions of more immigrants into 2020. The effects of the rapid 1.6% increase in population over the past year alone has already been suffered by Wenders above me.

Perhaps the one benefit of this heatwave is that is has taught the people of Victoria and South Australia how very ineffective much of their state's ministers are at taking care of its citizens. A little spring-cleaning right now could go a long way...

Otherwise, I am losing much faith in this alleged 'democracy'

It has taught them nothing, they/we will never spring clean anything, Ministers and all politicians here just short change everything. Always have, always will.

Adelaide doesn't even have a proper freway for crying out loud, when they finally make one down south after 30 years of 'discussions' they screw it all up to save a few dollars and it will cost a huge amount of money to put it right. (which they refuse to do)

I have been to many citys around the size of Adelaide on my travels through the US and Canada, when it comes to infastructor Adelaide is the worst.

When I said 'spring-cleaning' I was referring to our right as citizens of Australia to uphold a system a democracy by removing from power all those who aren't satisfactorily doing their jobs (which is a significant amount of them).

Thats why I added 'we' (the citz), cause that'll never happen either unless.... the government banned beer or something.

Yeah It was like 42 in Launceston, that's pretty much unheard of. :scared:

I've never had any faith. I don't know about the other states but the SA and Federal government are definently corrput. :(

True that. Lazy buggers.

'Corrupt'. But indeed, Australia is a sad example where the notion of democracy, although claimed to be operating, just doesn't effectively exist. :(

Y'all FoolKiller. ;)
We only say that in Florence.

As for the pics... all I can say is wow... I'm glad for you that the tree didn't fall on your car! Randy
I still want to see pics of your big snow.

Massive chunks of snow are falling out the sky here, the kind of stuff that hits you and tries to knock you out cold. I'm having a hard time telling how well it is (or is not) sticking, as its been kinda sunny this afternoon. But, after all, we are in a lake effect snow warning, so, that'll be fun.

Nevertheless, the continued FAIL of our road commission(s) never ceases to amaze me. None of the roads were plowed, again, this morning. These are major city streets, and its dangerous to be driving on them in stop/go traffic with the hills and such.

Looks like tomorrow is going to be warm... A "balmy" 32F with more snow. It looks like we'll be bouncing around between the 20s and 40s for the next week or so, and that'll be nice to have some warmer weather for a change.

What's a lake effect snow warning? I'm presuming it's related to the lake affecting what type of snow it is?

That, and it only happens here-ish:

Philly and I are both on the West side of Michigan, which means we usually get the hardcore dumpings from the stuff. I'm about a 40 minute drive into the state from where Phil is (right next to the lake), and the further west you go, usually the more weak the storm will be. Go all the way East, near Detroit (where Joey is), and they might get some of the stuff, but not nearly as strong.

A city they didn't put on the map is Buffalo, NY. They always get hammered with lake effect snow.

 WARM? It doesn't get that cold overnight in winter here.

42C today. Say, a cool change from the last few days.

And with that picture, I'm waaaay up in Houghton, where we get a bunch more lake effect snow than anyone down by Lake Michigan. :P

Apparently 27C, but feels more like 20.

Similarly, the day after Victoria's final 40C+ day was in the low 30's but stepping outside I was immediately adamant it was in the low 20's. Amazing what just a few days of extremem weather can do to your temperature perception.

It's snowing!

We very, very rarely get snow here. It can be blizzarding 15 miles away and it's always either clear or dry and overcast over my town. I'm not even sure our council has snowplows if we need them, although it's no where near that bad yet. Took that picture from my doorstep.
